Lafollette reunions

More than 400 persons attended the second annual LaFollette family reunion at the Montgomery County Fair Grounds, Sunday (27th). Represenetatives were present from California, Oregon, Arkansas, Washington, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Tennessee, Washington territory and Indiana. The Lafollette family traces its origin to three brothers – Joseph, George and Charles  - who came to the US from France 150 years ago.  These three branches were represented at the reunion.  WT LaFollette, former railroad commissioner for Wisconsin and a brother of Senator “Bob” Lafollette was present. He left the Republican party a few years ago and is a Democrat. He was engaged in newspaper work in his state for a number of years.  JJM LaFollette, professor in the law department in the state university at Bloomington, Ind was elected president of the reunion association.  William LaFollette, student at DePauw was chosen secretary-treasurer.  State presidents were chosen as follows: WT LaFollette, Wisconsin; Charles S. LaFollette, traveling passenger agent for the Big Four railroad, Illinois; HM LaFollette, former state superintendent of public instruction of Indiana, Tennessee; CC LaFollette, Thorntown, Indiana; James LaFollette, California; John LaFollette, Iowa; Alexander LaFollette, Princefille, Oregon; William LaFollette, representative in congress, Washington. HM LaFollette read a long history of the Joseph LaFollette branch of the family, tracing the history into France.  JJM LaFollette sketched the George LaFollette branch.  Walter T. LaFollette of Siloam Springs, Tenn gave an address. So large was the attendance that not half the guests could be entertained in the hall and many enjoyed the picnic dinner under The Shade trees.  The reunion next year will be held here on the second Sunday in September
