HYMER - GILL REUNION
Source: Crawfordsville Review Aug 4, 1914 p 8
The yearly reunion of the Hymer-Gill families was held at the fair grounds of Crawfordsville, Sunday Aug 2nd. Descendants of both families were present from all part of the state. A magnificent dinner was served by the ladies of those present and a general good time was enjoyed. After dinner Frank Gill, a former resident of this county but now living in Illinois made a masterly address to those present, giving a history and many reminiscences of both families. After his address ice cream was served and officers elected for ensuing year. Samuel Shaver was elected president and secretary and the next annual meeting of the kindred fixed for the first Sunday in August 1915. There were over 75 of the descendants of the two families present yesterday. A few who were present last year were missing from the meeting this year; some had crossed the river, never to return, other were on their sick beds waiting for the master to say come on across. After spending one of the happiest days of their life, those present grasped each other by the hand and the word good-bye was said. With joy our absent friends we great it is such a pleasure with them to meet, with grief our souls are shaken when the last good bye is spoken.
