Source: Crawfordsville Daily Journal Friday 20 November 1891

Today was the annual reunion of the Herron family, the gathering being held at the home of Miss Maggie Herron, on South Washington Street. Mrs. Rebecca (Young) Herron, in whose honor it is each year, is 89 years old today, having been born on Nov. 20, 1802. Her husband, James D. Herron was born Jan. 26, 1798, entered land in this county in 1825, and died Oct. 21, 1874. There were present at the reunion six of her children and grandchildren and relative to the number of about twenty-five. Her children are Capt. W. P. Herron, Mrs. Rebecca McMaken, Mrs. Henry Harding, Mrs. J. S. Swearingen, Mrs. R. A. Smith, and Miss Maggie Herron. Mrs. Mary E. Young and daughter, Mrs. Shellenbarger, of Collinsville, O., were among the number who gathered around the festive board to honor the birthday of this aged and pious woman, whose name is spoken in reverence by all the citizens of our city and county, with whom she has lived for these many years. Mrs. Herron is a member of the First Presbyterian Church and is a regular attendant upon divine services, and may she see many such joyous reunions and may this be a happy and reunited family in the world that is to come, where parting shall be unknown and sorrow never enters. Mrs. Downing, a daughter of Mrs. Herron, was prevented from attending the reunion today on account of the illness of a daughter.
