Canine Reunion
The descendants of Ralph Canine were hostess to the Peter Carnine descendents Sunday, Aug 8 at Union Church observing the hundreth anniv. of the founding of the Church. Union Church was organized in the home of Peter Canine in Sept. 1826, he having come from Ky. the preceding January, settling the land where the Church stands. About 150 relatives gathered to honor the day. The morning hour was spent socially and after a bountiful dinner the company, with friends gathered in the Church for an informal program. M.M. Canine conducted the devotional reading from a Bible present to the Church in 1832. Congregational singing of old songs was led by M.M. Canine with Mrs. George Harshbarger at the piano. A musical program was given by the Canine orchestra composed of Fred, Helen, Naomi, Ralph and ALbert Canine, children of Fred and Ola Canine of Crawfordsville and great great grandchildren of Ralph Canine. Other musical numbers were given by Mr. & Mrs. Georges, evangelistic singers. The president, E.N. Canine gave a short sketch of history, tracing ancestry back through Holland to Finland. A roll call was given, each family responding with some feature. Jackson Canine of Crawfordsville had the largest number of descendants present, 20 attending. Mrs. Laura Hillyor of Williamsport represented her mother, Mrs. Margaret McCrea, who is 91 years old and the oldest living descendant. Mrs. McCrea founded the Canine reunion. Dr. Robert Canine, of Nebo, Ill, was an honored guest. There were 6 members of the Church and 18 other persons who formerly belonged or whose parents were members of the Church present to honor the occasion.
