Lebanon Reporter: The annual reunion of the Beck family was held yesterday in Leander Beck’s grove, three and one half miles northwest of Lebanon. It was probably one of the largest affairs of the kind ever held in the county. It is estimated that between 500 and 600 people were in attendance. The counties of Boone, Clinton, Montgomery, Cass, Union, and Marion and the states of Indiana and Texas were represented. After the dinner had been disposed of the afternoon program was given. A. D. Beck, of this city, gave a history of the Beck family, beginning with the time when John Martin Beck and his wife, Mary Catharine Beck came to this country from Germany, down to the present time. John Martin Beck and wife, the founders of the family in this country, settled in North Carolina near Oldtown, in Forsythe County. Mr. Beck died there in 1812 and his wife in 1825. Their three sons, Solomon, Henry, and Abram Beck, came to this state from North Carolina in 1819, settling in Union County. The Becks came to Boone County in the early thirties. To Solomon Beck was born thirteen children, seven boys and six girls, who raised families. To Henry was born ten children, four sons and six daughters, all of whom raised families. Abram was the father of six sons and two daughters, all of whom raised families. The Beck family is a large one, probably one of the largest in the state at the present time.
