Washington, July 24 – The defense department announced today that Pvt. Ernest W. Cox, brother of Arthur H. Greene, New Castle, Ind was killed in action in the Korean War. The department in the longest casualty list of the war also reported four other Hoosiers missing in action.
Second Lt. Raymond E. Pearson, husband of Beverly J. Pearson, residing in the Far East command, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pearson, Crawfordsville Route 2.

Crawfordsville, Aug 1 - Pfc Charles (Red) Northcutt, 22 son of Mr. and mrs. Charles Northcutt, 911 Tuttle Avenue is missing in action in Korea. His parents received a telegram Sunday stating their son had been missing since July 20. Northcutt was serving with the Third Combat Engineers. He was sent to Korea after having been on duty in Japan since December 1948. He enlisted in Sept that year.
Northcutt is the second Crawfordsville man reported missing in the Korean War. The first was Lt. Raymond E. Pearson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pearson,R 2 who has been missing since July 14. Pearson is a field artillery officer.

The latest list – the second issued today – identified six killed, 31 wounded, one injured and 58 Missing in Action. All were army men. Earlier today the department listed six wounded one injured and 63 missing in action. These, too were army men. Some of these missing in action are presumed to have been with the unit headed by Maj. Gen. William F. Dean, commander of the 24th Div, who also has been listed as MIA. The latest list follows: Missing in Action … 2nd Lt. Raymond E. Pearson, husband of Mrs. Beverly J. Crawfordsville, Ind - The Defense Department has notified Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pearson of Crawfordsville that their son, Lt. Raymond E. Pearson had escaped from a Communist prison camp in North Korea according to the Red. US Authorities say, however, that no prisoner reported escaped by the Communists has returned to United Nations control. Pearson was Montgomery County's first casualty in the Korean War. He was reported missing on July 14, 1950.

Washington, Sept 15 - Cpl. Dean R. Crabb of South Bend, Ind was added to the Defense Department's list of soldiers who remain unaccounted for after the Korean prisoner exchange. The new list brings to 925 (note difference below) the number of Americans identified as unaccounted for, after having been reported captured by the Communists. The department said there are 944 in all in this classification. The department notified Mr. and Mrs. Raymond E. Pearson Sr Crawfordsville, Ind Monday that a fellow officer had brought back word of the death of their son, Lt. RE Pearson, Jr. Lt. Pearson disappeared with Maj. Gen William F. Dean July 14, 1953. The Communists recently reported him among the escapees from their prison camps. However, the Defense Department said another office, captured at the same time as Pearson, reported he had seen Pearson died of malnutrition near Manpo, North Korea in February 1951. The notice did not say whether his death was in a prison camp.

One Hoosier was killed and five others were listed as Missing In Action by the defense department today. Pfc. Ernest W. Cox, brother of Arthur H. Greene, 933 South Sixteenth Street New Castle was listed among six men killed.
