BRUNER, Richard - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

Born in Sterling, Fountain County, Indiana, on February 9, 1929, (son of Ray and Ical Pickett Bruner) our man was but a few months old when he became an Alamonian. He graduated from Alamo HS in 1947, then on to Indiana State Teachers College, graduating from there in 1951. He went on to the Navy, serving from 1951-55.

Having taught and coached in Fountain and other places in Montgomery County, he spent most of his years at Southmont. He was blessed with a darling of a wife, Betty Hoagland (born May 31, 1932 daughter of George and Mary Hoagland of the New Richmond area) who still lives in their family home in Waveland, Indiana.

A family giggle: when Betty would go to visit Richard in the service, she'd get pregnant. Certainly their life was wonderful with three great boys, Ron, Alan and Jeff. Ron was in the last graduating class from Waveland HS.

Richard received his masters degree in 1959 and taught for a total of 38 years. An active member of Browns Valley Christian Church, he also taught Sunday School there for many years.

The coveted Sagamore of the Wabash was awarded to Richard in 1993. A truly wonderful man, I so sincerely miss seeing him mowing his yard or blabbing at me while getting the mail. He was my multiple cousin, fourth through the Bowers' side; 5th through the Sowers side and 6th once-removed on the Myers. It is pretty nifty that he is buried in Phanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Wallace, Indiana where our common ancestors arrived so early in Indiana history. God bless you, cousin Dick.
