Crawfordsville, Ind – A Montgomery County couple, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Benge of New Ross has received word that a son, Army Pfc. Samuel E. Benge was killed in action in Vietnam. The 20-year-old soldier entered the Army in November and had been in Vietnam only a month.

Two more soldiers from Indiana have been killed in action in Vietnam, relatives were notified over the weekend. Spec 4 David Platt of Bluffton and Pfc. Samuel E. Benge of New Ross were the latest Hoosier casualties of the war bringing the total to at least 956. Platt was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Platt and husband of Janet Platt. Benge was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Benge.

New Ross, Ind – Army PFC Samuel Edward Benge, 20, New Ross, was killed in combat in Vietnam on Tuesday His death increases to 1,046 the number of Indiana servicemen who have die din the war in Vietnam. He was a 1967 graduate of New Ross HS. He entered the Army in November and had been in Vietnam 29 days. Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Benge of New Ross; the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Benge of Zionsville and Cecil Maddox of Advance; four brothers and three sisters.
