BRANSON RUSK - COLLECTION

Source: Sorry not sure but think it is from the Feb 25, 1898 C'ville Daily Journal (??)

Branson Rusk has some rare relics of the late war. Among them is a portion or all of his last ration which we should consider "hard to tackle," a red cedar canteen picked up after the battle of Peach Tree Creek, and some others of less importance. A volume of Harper's Wekly published during the war, occupies the same shelf. One number contains a portrait of Gen. Lew Wallace and a story illustrating the severe discipline to which he subjected his command. A number of his men had misappropriated half an ox when Wallace found it out and compelled them to carry it in a circle around a tree for half a day and for the remainder had them stand over it, and fan it to keep the flies off of it. .
