Boy Killed Enroute to Alabama With Truck
This community lost a promising young man last Saturday when John M. Rinard, 17 years of age, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Rinard, who reside about two miles south of here, near Sullivan's Ford, was killed.
The accident occurred near Pulaski, Tenn., when a truck he was driving, crashed into a passenger car, and overturned. Four local boys, William Worth, Don Greathouse, Dick Vance and the Rinard boy and Roland Webster, left Friday afternoon about three o'clock to drive five new trucks to Birmingham, Alabama, where they were to be delivered to Henry Miller, for construction work.
The group was within a hundred miles of their destination when Rinard became separated from the others. Webster drove back to find the boy, and was flagged down by a motorist, who had Rinard in his car. He told of the accident, and said he was taking the boy to a hospital.
Webster said he believed Rinard was watching a cowboy lasso some cattle on a big estate, near the scene of the wreck, and had run up on the car in front of him, without his knowledge. He swerved his wheels missing the car with the front of the truck, but the back failed to clear, striking the back of the car and overturning. The young man was instantly killed, but the three occupants of the passenger car, were not hurt.
Funeral services were held at the St. Mary's Church Tuesday morning, at nine o'clock, and burial was made in the Vernon cemetery.
John Michael, would have been a senior in the Vernon High School, this fall. He had a pleasing personality and was well liked in North Vernon. He had been a part time employee of the local auto firm, during the summer.     Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Rinard, and two sisters, Catherine and Mary Margaret.
