GOLDEN WEDDING
September 28, 1919 - Vernon Times

On September 23, 1869, John H. Trapp was united in marriage to Missouri Bailiff by Rev. Abraham Wells, an uncle of the bride, and a minister of the M. E. church.
On Sunday, September 21, 1919, this couple, assisted by the same minister who united them in marriage, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home, six miles southwest of Vernon, Ind., in Lovett township, Jennings county,
When plans were begun for the celebration of the event, the question as to whom invitations would be given arose. Mr. and Mrs. Trapp would have enjoyed the company of all their relatives, neighbors and friends, but it was soon discovered that the building would not hold nor the tables feed the multitude that would assemble if invitations were extended that far, so after careful consideration, it was decided to invite only their children: E. P. Trapp and family of Vernon, Ind., Margaret Gilbrath, husband and son of Indianapolis, and Nellie Stout and husband who make their home with Mr. & Mrs. Trapp on the farm, and the brothers and sisters of the bride and groom, together with their families.
When time for departure came all joined in thanking Mr. and Mrs. Trapp for their part taken in the celebration and many wishes were made that they might enjoy and celebrate many more anniversaries of their marriage.
Mr. and Mrs. Trapp are enjoying good health and are still actively engaged in the affairs of life. Their first purchase of real estate, in 1871, was a part of the farm now owned by them and which he have resided almost continuously since. They have added to the original purchase of eighty acres until they now own about 300 acres.
At the age of 16 Mr. Trapp enlisted in Co. K, 120th Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, to help fight the War of the Rebellion. He served for nearly three years or until the close of the war. After discharged from the service he returned to the community of his birth, near which he has since resided.
Mr. Trapp and his good wife have always been public spirited and active in the affairs of the times and the modesty of the writer only, forbids the eulogy that might truthfully be spoken. Mr. Trapp has been recognized in public affairs by having been elected to the office of trustee of his township, and that of treasurer of the county, both places having been filled with credit to himself and satisfaction to his constituents. Mr. Trapp is well known in his county as a substantial farmer and citizen, and no doubt his friends will all join in extending their best wishes and congratulations to the happy couple who have just celebrated their GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY.
