I have enlisted the help of a local attorney to explain how the Justice of the Peace Courts worked. This receipt is an example, when T. J. Burtch (Montgomery Township) received fines on cases that came before him he would then turn them over to the County Auditor. The Justice of the Peace got a small percentage of these fines for his services. This is an example of some of the Old records we are digitizing at the Library.
