McCaulou Property Partition - 1863
This page is pictures of a Court Filing to Divide the property owned prior to his death by Samuel McCaulou. Partitions were done either as part of the probate of the estate itself or like this one by one of the Heirs in the Court of Common Pleas after the settling of the estate. In this case William has gone to court and is suing the other Heirs to prove who owns what piece of Samuels 140 acres in Jennings County. Obviously this is only a portion of what Samuel may have owned at the time of his death.
Unfortunately the name McCaulou is spelled many different ways, the most frequent spellings are McCanlon, McCalla and McCally.

This is one of the water damaged court files in the possession of the Jennings County Public Library

This is another paper from the same file, it concerns who was appointed to divide the property among the heirs of Samuel McCaulou. Previous to this there should have been a regular Probate of the estate where an executor was appointed and a sale of his personal property was done as part of his Estate. It appears he died without a will (Intestate).
