Jan 1     We are at home all day. It rained hard last night and the creek is up some and the ice broke and went out at noon. It snowed some all day but the ground was wet and it melted as fast as it fell.

Jan 2     We, Edy and I, took up a load of corn to Ben Miller today, 40 cents per bu. It is right cold and the roads are frozen hard and it is right now.

Jan 3     We are sitting around the house, Edy and I. It is right cold today. Maw went across to George's, got the baby.

Jan 4     About the same, not much done.

Jan 5     Still cold with snow on and snows some every day.

Jan 6     Very little doing. It is right cold and snowy. Right good sleighing at this time.

Jan 7     We went to N. Vernon in the sled. It is right good sleighing at this time.

Jan 8     We are at home. The day is right cold with about 2 or 3 inches deep, right good sleighing.

Jan 9     We hauled one load of wood from the thicket on the sled. It is right good.

Jan 10     The same today. It is the coldest day this winter.

Jan 11     The same, cold and snow.

Jan 12     The same, getting up wood.

Jan 13     The same at the wood.

Jan 14     We went to Vernon to the Institute on the sled. It is good sleighing and it has snowed all day today.

Jan 15     This is the coldest morning this winter and snow is deep. We are at home. Good sleighing at this time.

Jan 16     We are cutting wood and hauling it home from the thicket on the sled. Good sleighing.

Jan 17     At the wood hauling.

Jan 18     Went over to Sebe's. Went on the sled. Snow all day long.

Jan 19     Went to N. Vernon on sled.

Jan 20     We were sawing wood. Edy and Billy Boner are sawing and I am hauling on sled.

Jan 21     I went to church. Edy went to N. Vernon with a load of stove wood.

Jan 22     Went to church.

Jan 23     We went to F. R. Gannon's today on the sled.

Jan 24     Went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to MacGannon's, 40 cents.

Jan 25     We butchered our hogs for meat today. The snow is softening.

Jan 26     Edy took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Nobe? At 40 cents. Last of sleighing.

Jan 27     Edy took up to N. Vernon two loads of corn, got .45.

Jan 28     Edy took up a load of corn to Gagen, .45. Joe and I went over the creek at the lower ford and shucked out 8 shocks of corn. The snow is melting fast. The creek is rising fast.

Jan 29     We are at home. The creek is raising the ice. The ice broke up tonight and it is all gorged on the creek.

Jan 30     Edy took up a load of corn to Prather, .45. It rained some this morning, not much.

Jan 31     Edy and I took up 2 more loads of corn to Prather, .45. It is thawing out the snow, it is about gone. The road is good.

Feb 1     We, Edy and I, took two loads of corn to N. Vernon. It rained some drizzle and rain most all day.

Feb 2     We are not doing much, choreing some. It is a dark day all day long. No sun out.

Feb 3     This is a clear sunny day. I sowed some grass seed on the Liew farm below Lawrence's house where he cut the briars and burned.

Feb 4     I went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to Gagen, got .45. Got seed oats off him at .45 per bu. The ground froze.

Feb 5     We are at home. Cool day. Froze last night.

Feb 6     We are sawing some stove wood at the house.

Feb 7     We are sawing some wood this afternoon. We loaded some hay out of stack to take to town.

Feb 9     We are at home doing very little. It rains all day and tonight it rains.

Feb 10     I took up a load of hay to N. Vernon to Dave Bay at $10 a ton. Then I went down to Vernon and paid the interest to Mrs. Wiggom. The whole of interest due to day: $69.91.

Feb 11     Two loads to town today to Bay. The day is nice.

Feb 12     We are at home today. The day is nice.

Feb 13     We took up two loads of hay to Dave Bay. The road is getting muddy.

Feb 14     We took up 2 more loads of hay to Bay. It rained hard when we got to town and all the way home. The creek is running swift. 7 loads hauled. The road is very muddy.

Feb 15     I am draining off some water off of the wheat. It is very wet.

Feb 16     Edy and I are sawing stove wood at the house this forenoon. This afternoon went over the creek at the lower ford to drain off water off wheat. It is very wet.

Feb 17     We are in the house most of the day. It sleeted last night and today it has rained some all day.

Feb 18     We are choreing some. The weather is some cold and bad.

Feb 19     We went to church. It is cold and chilly. Froze some.

Feb 20     We broke some stalks on the wheat this morning. This afternoon went over the creek at the lower ford and got the last of our shock corn home.

Feb 21     We finished our stalks on wheat. It snowed fast till after noon. The snow fell 5 or 6 inches deep.

Feb 22     We went down to John James' on the sled. Not very good.

Feb 23     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market.

Feb 24     Hauled hay to Bay at N. Vernon.

Feb 25     We took up a load of hay up to Hagen's barn for the show horses. Very muddy.

Feb 26     We went up to Billy Boner's.

Feb 27     We was sawing stove wood at the house. Right nice day.

Feb 28     We, Edy and I took up a load of stove wood and some potatoes and some cabbage to Bob Wrape.

Mar 1     I sowed some grass seed on the wheat on the flat piece this side of hedge fence this morning. This afternoon sawed stove wood.

Mar 2     I finished sowing the grass seed this morning. Then cut stove wood at the house.

Mar 3     I went down to the saw mill at Nordloh's to see about lumber for barn roof. Was not at home.

Mar 4     It is right cold this morning. Edy took up a load of stove wood to N. Vernon. I and Joe broke the stalks in orchard.

Mar 5     We are at home. Some cold.

Mar 6     I sowed clover on the 10 acre flat. Second field below the house and the orchard to clover today.

Mar 7     Edy and I took up a load of corn to Prather. Got .50 per bu.

Mar 8     This is a rainy day. We chored.

Mar 9     This is another dark day. We are choreing. Edy took up a load of wood to town.

Mar 10     Joe and I took up a load of corn to G. Verburg this afternoon. Then went over to the hall to see Marks about the Endowment Order.

Mar 11     I went to N. Vernon to get back one month pay off the Endowment Order. That is failed. This is a dark day.

Mar 12     We went over to George's today.

Mar 13     I went down on the lower 40 to sow some grass seed on the upper end of this land.

Mar 14     We took out a load of hogs for George Euler to Lovett. He got 7 cents a hundred. Right cool day.

Mar 15     We are hauling out manure on the potato patch and sowed clover.

Mar 16     We hauled some lumber for barn from Nordloh's mill. I sowed some more clover.

Mar 17     We hauled more lumber for barn. It snowed most of the day.

Mar 18     I went to the sale to Cal Wilty? And bought a set of buggy harness. There is about 2 inches snow on.

Mar 19     Went to church. The snow all melted off today. It is cool.

Mar 20     I finished sowing clover seed on wheat this morning. It froze some last night. The boys are hauling manure.

Mar 21     We are choreing and I went up to Vernon and paid my taxes. One half, $71.

Mar 22     It is wet, we are choreing.

Mar 23     We are repairing fence. Wet.

Mar 24     The same, choreing. Wet.

Mar 25     We repaired fence this forenoon. This afternoon took up a load of corn, got .46 per bu.

Mar 26     We are at home. Lots of folks here today.

Mar 27     We sowed our first oats.

Mar 28     We are working at the barn. John James is framing the shed to barn.

Mar 29     We worked at barn this forenoon. This afternoon we sowed oats on the pipe stem piece. Weather is nice.

Mar 30     We put in the rest of our oats on the pipe stem piece. The day is nice. John James is at the barn at work. Raised it today. Surveyor was on the thicket pasture to find a fall.

Mar 31     We plowed a part of the potato patch and planted some of them. It is a nice day.

Apr 1     It rains some this morning. Went to town today.

Apr 2     Went up to Mr. Euler's today.

Apr 3     We are sowing oats this forenoon and got done, then worked at the barn.

Apr 4     Commenced to roof barn.

Apr 5     The same, at the barn roof. Weather nice.

Apr 6     Roofing barn. Weather nice.

Apr 7     The same at the roof most done.

Apr 8     We planted our potatoes all this forenoon. This afternoon took off stalks for the first.

Apr 9     We are at home all day.

Apr 10     I went to N. Vernon after the last of shingles.

Apr 11     It rains today and is very wet.

Apr 12     This afternoon we began to roof at the barn again. It has been open for a day or two.

Apr 13     We got all done but the north shed.

Apr 14     Very wet time. We are choreing.

Apr 15     I went to N. Vernon to mill and to get some lumber to finish the north shed of barn.

Apr 16     We are at home. Nice day.

Apr 17     I went out to hunt for some cattle to buy but did not find any to sell. Nice day.

Apr 18     We roofed the north shed of the barn today. All done. The whole of the barn all new roof.

Apr 19     We are not doing much, it is a rainy day.

Apr 20     I went out to buy some cattle and bought 3 head off Gauem's. This is a bad day. It rains some. Creek is high this evening.

Apr 21     We brought home the cattle. Home this afternoon, worked in the thicket piling brush. Rainy and very wet time.

Apr 22     We are cutting down some willows on the Long Bottom that had been deadened. Wet.

Apr 23     We are at home. This has been a cool dark cloudy day.

Apr 24     We are choreing some. Very wet time.

Apr 25     We are choreing. Rain most all day. Creek up.

Apr 26     The same. Rain most of the day.

Apr 27     Went to N. Vernon to market. Right nice day but ground very wet.

Apr 28     We are choreing some. The ground is very wet. I am setting out some peach trees in the orchard.

Apr 29     Still a choreing. The ground is wet. We cannot plow. We have not plowed any for corn yet.

Apr 30     We are at home and Mon Swarthout is here all day long. It rains by showers today.

May 1     Rainy very hard this morning.

May 2     We are choreing. We put our cattle in the thicket pasture.

May 3     We are choreing some on Long Bottom setting out some willows on bank.

May 4     We went to hauling off wheat to N. Vernon mill. Only .60 per bu.

May 5     We hauled four more loads of wheat. This is all we allow to sell at this time. Weather nice.

May 6     We planted the new potatoes and planted some garden and hauled out manure.

May 7     We are at home. Nice day. Commenced to break for corn this afternoon but it set to raining this evening and rained.

May 8     -

May 9     Wet. Went to Seymour this morning. Stayed overnight.

May 10     We are at Seymour till 3 o'clock. We left for home. Nice day.

May 11     Edy took up a load of corn to Pather. This is a wet time. We cannot plow.

May 12     We are choreing some. It is wet. Rained last night.

May 13     We are trying to plow but it is too wet. We have only 3 acres on the Long Bottom plowed yet this year, this is all.

May 14     This has been a very nice day. We are at home all day.

May 15     We were plowing on the Long Bottom till 3 o'clock when another hard rain came and stopped us for 2 or 3 days. No corn planted yet. Very wet.

May 16     We went down on the lower thicket that I got off Liew, a deadening some trees on the Byo(?) piece. It is wet.

May 17     I am at the same as yesterday. Edy commenced to plow on the Long Bottom again but it is still wet yet today.

May 18     I am peeling willows on the Long Bottom. The boys are plowing.

May 19     The same. Peeled some and we commenced to plant corn on the Long Bottom this afternoon.

May 20     We got the Long Bottom planted at noon. Tis is all we have got done or ready. We are breaking stalks on the Betsy.

May 21     We are at home. Day is nice.

May 22     I went to Seymour to get my teeth repaired. Very nice day.

May 23     We planted corn over the creek. Weather nice. I got my property insured today by Hanson, $2300.

May 24     I am choreing some. Hoeing some potatoes and fixing some ridges for potatoes. The boys are plowing on the Betsy Bottom.

May 25     I went to Seymour today and got my teeth. The boys are planting the Betsy Bottom.

May 26     We are plowing on the clover piece on the north side of the Betsy Bottom for corn. Rains some.

May 27     The same today and got it all done and harrowed ready to plant but was too sticky to plant.

May 28     We are at home. Very nice day.

May 29     We took off our hogs to N. Vernon. Sold to Carson, $6.50 per hun. Took off stalks this afternoon on Lower Bottom.

May 30     We, Edy and I planted the little clover piece to corn this forenoon. Finished taking off stalks off Bottoms. All done for this.

May 31     We are plowing on the Liew Bottom. Showery weather.

Jun 1     We are still at the plowing and I replanted some corn and I deadened out some trees on the thicket on Liew.

Jun 2     Still at the plowing today. No rain today, warm.

Jun 3     The boys are plowing. I went to Vernon to pay off Mrs. Wigom the mortgage. Since I came home, big rain.

Jun 4     We are at home. It rains this evening.

Jun 5     I went to N. Vernon. Edy and I took up a load of corn to Pather. Wet time. Rain today again.

Jun 6     I went over to Hayden to the pike election. The ground is wet.

Jun 7     I am choreing. Hoeing out potatoes. The boys are plowing for corn on Liew farm. Planting some along the line by John James. I deadened some trees.

Jun 8     The same, plowing and planting. Otto Hess and Hayne Are helping to plow today.

Jun 9     We finished planting corn on the Liew Bottom. We are all done at noon today for this year.

Jun 10     We plowed corn on the Long Bottom for the first this year. Joe helped George to plow this afternoon.

Jun 11     We are at home, this is a nice day.

Jun 12     We are plowing corn on the Long Bottoms. Weather nice. Joe has the mumps.

Jun 13     The same…at the corn till noon. I went to N. Vernon this afternoon to mill and got a gasoline stove.

Jun 14     I went over to Charley Woodard's to help to raise his barn. Edy is plowing corn.

Jun 15     We commenced to cut clover this evening. Plowed corn this forenoon.

Jun 16     We are mowing some this forenoon. Edy is working on the roads.

Jun 17     We are hauling in clover hay this afternoon. The weather is dry. No rain since 13 days. Joe has the mumps all week.

Jun 18     We are at home. Warm today.

Jun 19     We finished cutting clover today but have some to put up.

Jun 20     We are working at the corn till noon. We got in one load of hay, then it rained.

Jun 21     It was some wet this morning. We are choreing till noon. I went to N. Vernon to get some repairs for binder. Our wheat will be due to cut in two days.

Jun 22     We are a working in the corn. It is nice since rain.

Jun 23     We commenced to cut wheat this evening and got clover hay done.

Jun 24     We cut wheat today. It is a very nice day.

Jun 25     We are at home. Very nice day.

Jun 26     We are cutting wheat till near noon when we broke the machine and had to send…

Jun 27     We went to cutting wheat this afternoon and got the field by the road done.

Jun 28     We moved over the creek at Lower Ford to cut on last evening and cut today. Very nice.

Jun 29     We cut till 4 o'clock and got all done and brought home the binder to cut the lower field. We cut the rest of the evening. It is most too green yet.

Jun 30     We are working in corn this morning and the boys all day. I and Maw went down to John James' today. Our wheat will due to cut on Monday. It is very green and poor.

Jul 1     We chored some. Edy trimmed the first hedge, cut some weeds. I and Maw went to N. Vernon this afternoon. Good rain last night.

Jul 2     We are at home. The day is nice.

Jul 3     We trimmed some hedge and cut some more wheat this afternoon. The weather is nice.

Jul 4     Finished cutting wheat, then trimmed hedge and plowed corn.

Jul 5     We trimmed the last of the hedge line. Canfield is working at it. I am painting some on wagon.

Jul 6     We are working at corn and this afternoon Edy and I mowed weeds in the orchard. The weather is warm.

Jul 7     We hauled in one field of wheat and stacked it. The weather is warm. Need rain.

Jul 8     We fixed the water gap this forenoon and brought six of the calves down and put them in the stubble pasture. Worked in corn over creek.

Jul 9     We are at home. Warm and dry weather, need rain.

Jul 10     I took up a load of wheat and a load of corn to N. Vernon. Wheat, .50 a bu. Corn .50 a bushel.

Jul 11     We are hauling and stacking wheat from over the creek. We got all done off this but 3 loads. Very dry and warm.

Jul 12     We finished stacking wheat at 5 o'clock then went to cutting oats. Warm and dry.

Jul 13     We cut oats and got done today.

Jul 14     We commenced to cut grass today. Joe is plowing corn and Leine and I are thinning out this forenoon. Put up hay this afternoon. Warm.

Jul 15     The same as on yesterday. It rained this evening a shower and stopped us putting up hay. Nice rain.

Jul 16     We are at home. Nice day and cool.

Jul 17     I am hauling corn to N. Vernon. Took up two loads. The boys are working in corn on the Liew farm. Last time.

Jul 18     We were at corn till noon then put up hay this afternoon, what Edy cut this forenoon. Got this field all done.

Jul 19     The same as on yesterday. Corn and hay. Very nice time for hay.

Jul 20     The same today. Dry weather. Sowed turnips.

Jul 21     The same, at hay. Weather dry and warm.

Jul 22     We are at the hay and got it most done. Only one more load yet.

Jul 23     We went to the funeral of Henry Childs. He died last night. Warm weather.

Jul 24     We hauled in our oats and stacked them. Weather dry.

Jul 25     I took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Prather. The boys are helping Mike Simon to thrash. Very warm.

Jul 26     Helped Billy Boner to thrash this evening. Dry weather.

Jul 27     Charley Gibbs was killed on the railroad. We put up some more hay. Weather dry and warm. Most done our hay. We helped Sebe to thrash.

Jul 28     We were about to finish our hay after dinner when a dispatch came that Charley Gibbs was killed on the railroad. Then Maw and I went to N. Vernon.

Jul 29     We got our hay all done at noon. This afternoon went over to Hayden and had a dispatch sent to bury Charley Gibbs at Lodington. (Ludington, Michigan)

Jul 30     We went to church. Mon preached on this 5 Sunday. Weather very dry. Need rain bad.

Jul 31     We hauled out manure till noon then went and helped George to thrash this afternoon.

Aug 1     Got George's wheat done at noon. Hauled manure this afternoon. Very dry yet.

Aug 2     We are hauling out manure, will get it most done today. Weather very dry, need rain.

Aug 3     We finished the manure this morning and then we were fixing for the thrashers and the boys went to help Otto Hess to thrash. Very dry.

Aug 4     We thrashed all of our grain. Number of bushels wheat, 628. Oats 195. All thrashed today. Very dry weather.

Aug 5     We are a choreing some this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon with two loads of corn. The weather is still dry.

Aug 6     Went to church to hear Spears preach. Very warm and dry, no appearance of rain.

Aug 7     Hauling corn to N. Vernon. Very dry weather.

Aug 8     The same today, hauled two loads.

Aug 9     The same today, hauled four loads to the MacGannon's. Weather very dry.

Aug 10     We went to the fair at N. Vernon. Weather dry yet.

Aug 11     Went to fair again. Still dry. Sprinkled some rain this evening.

Aug 12     We are choreing some at one thing or another. Still very dry. Corn will be very light.

Aug 13     Went to church. Very warm and still dry. No rain.

Aug 14     We cut down some thicket.

Aug 15     We cut and put up clover seed. Warm and dry weather.

Aug 16     The boys are helping to thrash at Haynes' today.

Aug 17     Thrashing at Hedges. Got done. Weather still dry and warm. I helped Tull S. to thrash.

Aug 18     The boys are helping Otis to thrash. I am choreing.

Aug 19     We went down and cut some of the thicket below John James'. We elected Johnson to preach today for the next year to come.

Aug 20     We are at home. The weather is very dry yet. The corn will be very light. Have to feed our stock for the last week on hay, pasture all burned up.

Aug 21     We are cutting down the lower thicket near to John James. Mike Simon and Lawrence is helping. Dry weather.

Aug 22     The same as on yesterday. Both of them helped.

Aug 23     The same and all worked.

Aug 24     We went up to Tull Sullivan's to a birthday dinner. Weather very dry.

Aug 25     I went to Vernon and paid the interest on the school fund mortgage. It rained a little enough to dampen the dust.

Aug 26     I am choreing. The boys are hauling gravel on road.

Aug 27     We are at home this is very dry weather yet. No appearance of rain yet. We have to feed all of our stock fodder for the last week. No pasture for them.

Aug 28     The boys are hauling gravel on the road. I am deadening some trees in the thicket on Bio. Very dry weather yet.

Aug 29     The boys are both hauling gravel till noon. Then Edy and Burgmyer boys and I are at work on the thicket.

Aug 30     Joe finished the half day hauling of gravel on the road. Then he came down and helped in the thicket. We got the thicket all cut down and the first we cut burned today. Very dry yet.

Aug 31     We went to John James' sale. He sold out today. Weather is dry yet.

Sep 1     We dug potatoes today. The weather is dry. Have to feed cattle and horses hay and fodder, the same as in winter. Very dry.

Sep 2     We went to N. Vernon with a load of corn and a load of oats, .28 for oats. .50 for corn. Note gave in bank today for 90 days. Due December 2, $300.

Sep 3     We are at home all day. Weather dry yet.

Sep 4     Went to Indianapolis, then to Chicago to the fair. Warm and dry.

Sep 5     Got to Chicago this morning, then got a place to board at, then went to Fair.

Sep 6     Went to Fair 2 day.

Sep 7     Went to Fair 3 day.

Sep 8     Went up to the park garden then to Fair.

Sep 9     Went to Fair last day. We will stay to Fair.

Sep 10     Started home this morning. Came to Seymour tonight.

Sep 11     We got home from Fair at noon. John Spencer came out with us home. There has been no rain.

Sep 12     We are not doing much. It rains a little.

Sep 13     The same, cut some corn on Long Bottom. Gibbs' are here at our house to visit us.

Sep 14     We went up to Tull Sullivan's to visit. Very little rain has fell yet.

Sep 15     We are cutting corn. Weather dry.

Sep 16     The same, at corn on Long Bottom. Dry.

Sep 17     Went to church. Preacher Johnson commenced his year today. Very dry.

Sep 18     We are cutting corn on Long Bottom and got it all done but a very little.

Sep 19     We thrashed our clover today. Number bushels, 7 ¼. Still dry weather yet.

Sep 20     Took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Gagen, got .50 bu.

Sep 21     We cut some more corn and got it all done. We allow to cut on this farm then the boys went to digging potatoes and I trimmed some hedge. Very dry yet.

Sep 22     I am trimming hedge and the boys are digging potatoes, got them done.

Sep 23     I took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Bob Wrape, got .50 bushel. Still dry yet.

Sep 24     We are at home. It set in to rain and rained from 1 to 8 most of the time. Very nice rain. We need it long ago but was glad to get it.

Sep 25     We set in to break up for what this morning. The ground is not wet enough yet to plow right well but we are going ahead.

Sep 26     The same at plowing. A small frost last night but left new marks of frost. John Spencer is here today again.

Sep 27     We are plowing for wheat most today yet.

Sep 28     We commenced to sow wheat on the corn ground for the first time this year.

Sep 29     We finished this piece this morning then went to breaking wheat on the 15 acre field.

Sep 30     I went to Vernon and then to N. Vernon, took up John Spencer to start home. Big rain. Rain most of the day. This is a good rain. Will wet the ground all right to plow.

Oct 1     We are at home all day. This is a right nice day.

Oct 2     I took up a load of corn to Gagen at N. Vernon. Edy took a load of goods for Euler. He moved to his farm today. Big rain tonight.

Oct 3     It rained all day and it wet the ground.

Oct 4     I took up a load of corn to Gagen, got .50. Edy is plowing.

Oct 5     Plowing for wheat and harrowing and rolling nice. I took up a load of corn to Bob Wrape at N. Vernon, got .50.

Oct 6     I am spreading manure. The boys are plowing, most done the 15 acre field.

Oct 7     We cut some corn on the Liew farm for the first, Joe and I. Edy is plowing, got the field about ready to sow.

Oct 8     Went to church very nice day. Cool, no frost yet to mark.

Oct 9     We commenced to sow our 15 acre field to wheat this afternoon. Nice weather.

Oct 10     The same drilling wheat. The weather warm and nice.

Oct 11     We finished this field of wheat this morning.

Oct 12     We are plowing on the Liew farm on the meadow. This is for wheat and grass.

Oct 13     Went to plow but it set to rain and it kept on and we quit.

Oct 14     We plowed today. It is plenty wet but it is right nice.

Oct 15     We are at home. Nice day. First frost to make the vines.

Oct 16     Plowing for wheat still.

Oct 17     The same and harrowing. The weather is nice.

Oct 18     We commenced to sow this 7 acre piece to wheat this afternoon. Weather is warm through day, cool at night.

Oct 19     We finished that field of wheat this evening and drained it then went across the road on the meadow to break it up for grass.

Oct 20     The same at the plowing. It rained some today.

Oct 21     We all went to N. Vernon but Edy. He is plowing. I went down to old Vernon and paid the last half of taxes on farm.

Dec 6     We finished husking corn today. All done but one load of fodder to haul in. The ground is frozen.

Dec 7     We hauled the last load of fodder in this morning. Then went and helped George Euler to shuck corn. Edy and I. It is cold this morning, very nice weather.

Dec 8     I went to N. Vernon and took up a load of corn to mill and I sold Letty mare to Downs for one hundred dollars.

Dec 9     We butchered a hog this morning, then took 2 head of cattle over the creek to pasture. It rains some all forenoon. Sold 6 head of cattle to Hudson. 3 for 2 head.

Dec 10     We are at home. The day is right cool, froze some.

Dec 11     We are repairing some fence around the stock field so we can pasture the cattle.

Dec 12     We drove 6 head of cattle to Lovett to ship to the city of _______?. Sold to Hudson at 3 1/4 a pound for 4 head, 3 a pound for 2 of the smallest.

Dec 13     I went to N. Vernon to the Institute, took up a load of corn to Nobe, .40 a bu. Cool day.

Dec 14     We took our hogs to Lovett to Carson. 11 hogs at 4.55 a hundred average. 236 whole amount of $118.52.

Dec 15     Edy took up a load of corn to Camell.

Dec 16     I went to N. Vernon and got a load of tile. Cold day.

Dec 17     We are at home. Cool day.

Dec 18     We are setting posts for wire fence down in the old Sullivan Bottom.

Feb 4     Went to church today. Snow fell 2 inches deep last night but not very cold.

Feb 5     We are not doing much, choreing some. Snow on some but melts some.

Feb 6     I took a load of hogs out to Lovett for George Euler. The ground is froze some, bears up in most places but thaws some and is muddy. The snow is about gone off, it was clear and bright all day.

Feb 9     I went to the barn raising at Haynes. The ground is wet from the big rain last night. The creek is high today.

Feb 12     This has been a very rainy day and the creek is raising fast and at 4 o'clock we can see plenty of backwater.

Feb 14     It is a chilly day and this evening it set in to snow and there was quite a snow fell last night. We are only choreing.

Mar 16     I sowed clover on the Long Bottom wheat this forenoon. This afternoon sowed on Low Bottom on Lawrence's wheat.

Mar 17     We went to N. Vernon with 2 loads of wheat, got .50/bu. This is a very pretty spell of weather and today is warm and nice.

Mar 18     We are at home. The day is very nice and warm. Very fine weather for several days.

Mar 19     There was a big rain last night and the ground is wet. We were sawing up the rest of the wood at the house and choreing some.

Mar 20     We hauled up 4 loads of wheat to R. Maganon's mill at .50/bu. The weather is warm and very nice. I sowed clover on where Lawrence put oats. Warm.

Mar 21     We hauled hay to Liew Lattimore today. Warm. The weather is nice.

Mar 22     This is part of a rainy day by showers. We are choreing and I am draining off some water that stands on the wheat field.

Mar 23     We all went down on the lower Liew 40 to cut down some bushes and briars next to Burgmyer's fence. This has been a cool cloudy day.

Mar 24     We are a building fence around the barnyard this forenoon. This afternoon went to Vernon and then to N. Vernon with carpet rags to weave but could not get anyone to weave them. Cool.

Mar 29     I went to N. Vernon to mill and took a load of wheat and corn to get ground for feed. The day is cool and chilly with snow on the ground. This morning, about 1".

Mar 30     We were levying on the bottom today again. Cool weather but it was a very pleasant day.

Apr 1     We went up to Tull Sullivan's. This is a very nice day but cool.

Apr 2     I sowed clover seed on the 2 lower whet fields below Tull. This is the last to sow. Edy and Joe are at work on levy. This is a nice day.

Apr 3     I went down to Machiano's to see my tile man about tiling this forenoon. This afternoon we broke up part of the potato patch and planted them for the first this year.

Apr 4     We hauled out some manure on corn, then this afternoon planted the rest of our potatoes.

Apr 5     We are fixing some of the garden and set out onions today. Cool day. Ben Baker put in a new force pump today in the well.

Apr 6     I went to N. Vernon and got the wagon and harrow that was there for repairs. New bed and brake. The weather is cool. We took off some stalks off of the Long Bottom for the first this year. Cool.

Apr 7     We are at work at the levy this forenoon. It threatened rain this morning but did not rain but very little. Cool weather and the ground is dry enough to plow but we have not plowed any yet for corn. We went to church this afternoon at 2 o'clock.

Apr 14     We went down on Low Bottom to make posts for a wire fence. We got enough made for it. The weather is nice.

Apr 15     We went out to Mr. Euler's today and George and Emma went with us. The day is very nice and warm.

Apr 16     We commenced to plow for corn today for the first this year. Weather nice. The ground is in very nice order. I sowed some more clover seed on Long Bottom this afternoon.

Apr 17     Plowed till noon then took off stalks this afternoon. Weather nice and warm. Men at work at tile ditch.

Apr 18     Plowing till 3o'clock when the rain came and stopped us.

Apr 19     Went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It rained hard this morning and a part of the day. Too wet to tile. The men did not work at ditch.

Apr 20     We are putting up a wire fence on the lower end of the Liew land and Billy Boner is helping. It is not a very nice day. It turned cool and rain.

Apr 21     We burned up brush on the orchard this forenoon. This afternoon went down and built wire fence. Wet time, showers often. Cool. Apr 22     I am at home. The rest went to Sunday School and to George Euler's.

Apr 23     We finished our wire fence below at noon, then this afternoon hauled posts for fence across below Lawrence's house where they are putting in tile. This is for corn on lower side.

Apr 24     We were hauling tile along the ditches ready to put in. They are at work at the ditches but it is wet. The ground is wet. Plowed for corn this afternoon. Plenty wet yet.

Apr 25     I am choreing some. The boys are plowing for corn. The weather is nice. The men are at work putting in the tile. Put out our cattle to pasture today for the first time.

Apr 26     I am choreing, burning trash and many other things. The boys are plowing for corn. Weather nice. The paperhangers papered the kitchen and the old room and painted overhead the kitchen.

Apr 27     I planted the first little patch of early corn on the potato patch this forenoon. This afternoon broke stalks on low bottom. Very nice weather at this time and warm.

Apr 28     I went up to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon I went down on the thicket where Vanbern is putting tile. I drove in the rest of the fence posts on the fence we are making along the tile to put in corn. This is very nice weather at this time. The boys are plowing for corn.

Apr 29     We are at home today. This is a very warm pretty day.

Apr 30     The boys are plowing for corn. About half or near half done. We have not planted yet. Weather very nice. I am choreing some, measuring 2 loads of corn this forenoon. Nice rain tonight.

May 1     We took our colts to the thicket pasture and then took a part of the cattle to the new thicket pasture below. It is a little wet this morning. Joe and I hauled out 2 loads of manure when we came back this afternoon. Went to town and got a new plow to break.

May 2     Plowing for corn on Long Bottom. 27 acres ready broke, ready for corn, none planted. The weather nice. Colt put in pasture today from town. Thinnes'(?) colt.

May 3     The boys are harrowing some ready to plant on the first Sullivan field. The weather is nice and warm.

May 4     Planted some corn this afternoon for the first. We were hauling down some tile to the ditch this forenoon.

May 5     Rain. We could not plant. We shelled corn for seed this forenoon. This afternoon went to church.

May 6     We went to church. It rained a big rain after we got home. This is a wet time. The ground is very wet at this time.

May 7     We are choreing some. It is wet from the hard rain on yesterday. The creek is past fording.

May 8     We took off our hogs to Lovett to Charley Trap, got $4.75/hundred. 22 to head average weight 207#. This is a nice day and warm. The ground is drying fast. We went to harrowing when we came home.

May 9     We planted corn today on the Betsy Bottom. The new Sullivan Bottom is too wet yet. This is a nice day and warm.

May 10     Planted and got the two fields planted at noon today. This afternoon went over to Jerrie's to break for the first on this piece. Rain at 5 o'clock. Quit work.

May 11     Edy and I went to town to mill to get feed ground this forenoon. This afternoon plowed the potatoes for the first time.

May 12     I was down helping fill up some tile ditches where Lawrence is plowing. The boys are across the creek at Jerrie's plowing and getting ready to plant. This afternoon we are planting. Got it all done. Weather nice.

May 13     We are at home. The day is very pretty and warm.

May 14     I filled up some tile ditch at croppings this forenoon. This afternoon planted some pumpkin seeds on long strip of bottom. Edy planted it to corn. Joe began to break on Liew piece.

May 24     We were hauling down some manure below on the Liew Bottom and cut some limbs and put them in the ditch along the creek bank. This afternoon went across the creek at Jerrie's and peeled some willows. Too wet to plow.

Jun 23     Same till noon, then Joe and I went down and hauled in the clover hay off lower thicket.

Jun 24     We are at home all day. It is not so warm today. It is part cloudy today. We allow to commence to cut wheat tomorrow.

Jun 25     We commenced to cut wheat and we cut the Long Bottom and a little in the 15 Acre piece.

Jun 26     The same, at the wheat and this afternoon there was a wind storm and rain and it blew down most of our shocks we had up.

Jun 27     We cut wheat till noon and got the 15 Acre piece all done but a little. I went to town to get some twine and the boys cut the rest of this field and went to load and broke the machine and did not cut any more this day.

Jun 28     We finished up the machine this forenoon and moved down on the lower bottom and cut there this evening. Very warm weather.

Jun 29     We finished this field this morning then went to the last field below to cut. The weather is warm.

Jun 30     We had about 3/4 acre left yet to cut yet this morning. We finished it then plowed corn till noon. Then this afternoon went down and helped Lawrence to finish cutting wheat. Weather is still warm.

Jul 1     We are at home. It is not so warm today. Some cloudy, looks some like rain.

Jul 16     I and Maw went to N. Vernon this morning. This afternoon put up hay at the timothy by the house. It is warm and still dry yet.

Jul 19     We was at the hay and got it all done but one load when rain came on at 2 o'clock and stopped us. It was a nice rain and it was needed very badly for everything.

Aug 1     I helped to thrash at Otis Hess's, Boner's and Young's today and Joe helped Jim Marsh to finish his thrashing. Edy helped George to haul oats in. Weather warm and dry.

Aug 2     I went to N. Vernon to mill and took up a load of corn to McGannon. Weather warm and dry.

Aug 3     Edy took up a load of corn to Bob Wrape. Joe is helping thrash at Liew Lattimore's. I am choreing some. Weather dry.

Aug 4     I am doing some choreing. The boys are hauling out some manure till afternoon. Then Joe went to help Smith Wetzel to thrash for George Euler. I went to church.

Aug 5     We went to church. The weather is nice but some dry.

Aug 6     We hauled out some manure this forenoon. This afternoon Edy and I took up a load of corn to Vernon then we did not sell it at Vernon, took it to N. Vernon. Sold to P. Magannon at .48/bu.

Aug 7     We are helping George Euler to thrash. They got done about 4 o'clock then came here and thrashed out 225 this evening. Weather dry yet.

Aug 8     We finished thrashing at noon today. Number of bu of wheat 103, oats 23. The machine went to Tull's and thrashed his out.

Aug 9     We went to the Fair. The day is very warm. Weather dry and dusty.

Aug 10     I and Maw are at home. Joe and Edy went to the fair. There was some rain this evening and tonight there was more rain.

Aug 11     Edy and I took up 2 loads of wheat to Vern to Goff mill, got .44/bu for it. Then we brought home 2 loads of tile from N. Vernon. There was another big rain fell this evening. Wet the ground pretty well at this time.

Nov 29     We, Edy and I, took our hogs to Lovett to Charley Trapp at $4.05/hundred. It is right cold day. The roads are nice and dry. We stopped as we came home and ate dinner at George Euler's.

Dec 8     This is another rainy morning till noon. Then it cleared off. We did not go to the Institute.

Dec 11     We are tearing down the old straw stack and scattering it around on the yard and hauled around some for bedding horses. This is a warm pretty day.

Dec 12     We butchered a beef this morning. Then Joe and Edy went to Sam Young's to help him to cut wood. It is cooler today and cloudy.

Dec 13     We are hoeing some grass around the apple trees and this afternoon went down and put up some wire fence on the line with Burgmyer.

Dec 14     Edy and I went to N. Vernon to mill to get corn ground for cows. Got a new coal stove to burn coal in. Weather nice.

Dec 15     The boys are hauling some gravel this forenoon at the barnyard gate. This afternoon hauled some manure in the yard. Weather nice and warm.

Dec 16     We are at home. The weather is very nice.

Dec 17     We are choreing some around the barn. The weather is nice.

Dec 18     We are at work at one thing or another, fixing some fence, fixing a place to put coal. Joe went to Mote's this afternoon to get some molasses off him. Weather is very nice.

Dec 19     I and Joe went to N. Vernon after a load of coal to burn in our new stove. Paid $3.00 a ton for it. Weather is very nice.

Dec 20     We made a gate at the barnyard to go out to the creek field and hung it on hinges this forenoon. This afternoon went across the creek at Jerrie's to grub out some bushes on our little corner. I think of planting out locust.

Dec 21     We are all of us, at work at the house finishing painting it. We had not go it all done before so we are trying to finish. Weather is nice.

Dec 22     At the same as above and finished all today over what we allowed to do. Shutters and all. Weather is nice and not cold. Frost some at night. Warm through day.

Dec 23     We are at home. The day is cloudy and dark.

Dec 24     Edy went out to Kokomo to Hugh's on a visit. The forenoon is cloudy and at 11 o'clock it set in to rain and it rained all evening.

Dec 25     We went up to John Hedges' today. It is a cool day. It turned cool this morning after the rain on yesterday.

Dec 26     I and Pamma went up to Harron's Tunnel Mill to get some buckwheat flour. Got the flour, came home and it set in to snow and it snowed and stormed all the afternoon and tonight yet at this time. It is still storming and right cold. This is the first time this winter.

Dec 27     We are only choreing. The snow is on the ground and right cold.

Dec 28     The same as on yesterday. There was more snow fell last night and it is right cold this morning.

Dec 29     We are only doing the chores. The snow is deep and it is right cold. Edy is still at Hugh's at Howard Co.

Dec 30     We are at home. The weather is warmer today. Thaws a very little, right nice sleighing in most places where it did not drift.

Dec 31     We went to N. Vernon, Maw and Joe and I, on the sled. The sleighing is right good and it is cold enough to keep on the snow.
