Jan 1 - Jan 19 nothing in Journal

Jan 20     I am choreing some. It is wet. Rain last night.

Jan 21     I took up the big hog to N. Vernon to Stinger. The hog weight 582 at .035, $20.37. Quite cold and chilly.

Jan 22     I am hauling out some tile to the ditch to put in. Herron is putting them in.

Jan 23     We butchered our hogs today.

Jan 24     We cut up our meat and salted it today. Will Herron is helping.

Jan 25     We are choreing some. Hauling out some tile to put in. Will be done with the ditch at noon.

Jan 26     We are at home today. It is warm and pleasant. The ground has thawed out.

Jan 27     Choreing some and Lawrence is putting in some tile in the yard.

Jan 28     I am hauling some manure out on the field and hauled up some tile to put in the yard.

Jan 29     It is a rainy day. We are choreing some.

Jan 30     I went to N. Vernon and took up a load of corn and got shorts for it. Corn is worth .30.

Jan 31     We are choreing some. No school, the teacher is sick.

Feb 1     Choreing some. It is rainy and cloudy day. Still have the pigs on the wheat.

Feb 2     Went to church. The creek is deep to ford. Swarthout preached.

Feb 3     I am choreing some. The weather warm and wet.

Feb 4     The same today. Very warm, the wind blows some and is drying off the ground.

Feb 5     Went to town to market, took potatoes, only .25 per bu. Some cooler.

Feb 6     Choreing, not doing much work.

Feb 9     The same as on yesterday.

Feb 8     We are taking out some stumps out of the long bottoms.

Feb 9     We are at home. The day is nice, froze some.

Feb 10     I sowed some grass seed down on the thicket where the brush was burnt. It froze some last night.

Feb 11     I went to N. Vernon and sent Jim and Tilly $50 to them as part of share coming from our Mother.

Feb 12     Choreing some, hauling around some tile to put in ditch.

Feb 13     The same as on yesterday.

Feb 14     The same today. The weather is nice.

Feb 15     We are hauling out some manure this forenoon. There is church today. Brother Sebern came out from N. Vernon this morning.

Feb 16     Church today, allow to have a few days of church.

Feb 17     Church today and tonight again. M. Swarthout came this evening to assist for a time.

Feb 18     Still church going on. The weather nice, roads muddy.

Feb 19     Still church going on. It has been raining most of the day and tonight we did not go to church.

Feb 20     I went to the sale at Tom Carlon's today and bought 2 head of cattle for $26.55 on nine months time. Due Nov. 20.

Feb 21     I went to church today. The weather is wet.

Feb 22     I went to N. Vernon and brought out Lawrence's stove and some things. It snows some.

Feb 23     I went to church. The roads are muddy. The weather chilly.

Feb 24     I went to church today. Tonight the creek is too high to ford.

Feb 25     Rain most of the day and the creek is high. Tonight we did not get over to church.

Feb 26     The creek is still high. It was one foot the highest this time than any other this winter. The preachers are on yon side of creek.

Feb 27     This has been a cloudy day and rained some. The creek is full yet and will raise some tonight.

Mar 10     Rainy day today and rain tonight and the creek is high tonight.

Mar 11     The same today. Rain and the creek is high yet.

Mar 12     The same, rain most of the day and the creek is high. John James and folks were here today.

Mar 13     We are choreing some this forenoon. This afternoon we cutting some stove wood for the first this winter. No rain today. It is fair but very muddy.

Mar 14     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market. The day is right nice, a little cool.

Mar 15     We went to church today. The day is cool. The ground froze hard last night.

Mar 16     We went over to see Uncle Moses Spencer. He is quite sick. A little better tonight.

Mar 17     We cut some wood today. It is quite cold. Uncle Moses Spencer died tonight.

Mar 18     We loaded a load of potatoes and Edy and Joe took them to N. Vernon and sold them at .25 per bu.

Mar 19     Uncle Moses was buried today. We did not go, the creek was up too high. We cut stove wood.

Mar 20     We are cutting stove wood on John James' woods.

Mar 21     The same today as on yesterday. It is right warm.

Mar 22     I sowed some more clover seed this morning over the creek next to Woodward's. Rain last night.

Mar 23     This is a very pretty day. We are at home.

Mar 24     We are cutting stove wood. The day is nice.

Mar 25     I finished sowing the clover seed across the creek. It is right nice day. Some wind.

Mar 26     We split some posts on the bottom on Liew (Lattimore) land. This is a nice day.

Mar 27     This morning it is raining and it rained showers all day.

Mar 28     This is a very story day. Wind and some snow. We are not doing much.

Mar 29     We went to N. Vernon and to old Vernon. Took up a load of wheat got .73. John Wrape paid the note off Mother's today.

Mar 30     We are at home today, all day long.

Mar 31     We are cutting stove wood today. Snow some all day.

Apr 1     The same today. The day is pleasant.

Apr 2     I am sowing clover seed on Liew bottom. Got all done and split some rails. The day is right night.

Apr 3     We are not doing much. It rains most of the forenoon. I went over to Jim Marsh's this afternoon and got some seed corn.

Apr 4     I went to old Vernon and paid the taxes on lands.

Apr 5     We are building a fence to keep the chickens in. This is a nice day.

Apr 6     Easter Sunday. We are at home. The day is nice.

Apr 7     We, this forenoon, hauled some rails and I finished sowing clover seed over the creek, then went to election.

Apr 8     We hauled some rails and repaired fence this forenoon. This afternoon hauled out manure on garden.

Apr 9     We hauled rails this forenoon. This afternoon we was plowing tile in the ditches on the meadow.

Apr 10     We commenced to break sod for corn for the first.

Apr 11     The same today. I am grubbing out some bushes.

Apr 12     We are plowing some and plowed the garden and a small piece for potatoes and planted them this evening.

Apr 13     This is a very nice day. I went to N. Vernon for Dr. Corsen. Our old Fan mare is sick. She had a young colt and it is dead.

Apr 14     I went to N. Vernon and brought out Dr. Corsen to treat Fan mare. She is very sick yet.

Apr 15     We hauled some rails from over the creek and repaired some fence and hauled some stove wood.

Apr 16     Edy is plowing sod but it is wet. Joe and I are hauling some rails.

Apr 17     It rains some. We are not doing very much. We are getting some pickets ready sawed to fence in the chickens.

Apr 18     I went to N. Vernon to mill and market. The day is nice and pleasant.

Apr 19     We hauled in a stack of hay in the barn from Liew place. I went to church this evening.

Apr 20     I went to church, all of us, the Sunday School was organized today. Nice day.

Apr 21     We took off some stalks this afternoon for the first this spring.

Apr 22     We took off more stalks this forenoon. This afternoon Emma was married at 4 o'clock.

Apr 23     We planted some more potatoes and commenced to break on the stalk ground for corn for the first. The sod is broke.

Apr 24     We was choreing some. We are fixing some more picket fence for the chickens lot and Edy is breaking for corn.

Apr 25     We are picking up drift on the bottoms and trying to burn. It is wet, it rained some.

Apr 26     Hard rain last night and today. the creek is past ford. We went over to the sale at Harrison Spencer's and I bought $17.75 on 6 months time.

Apr 27     We are at home most of the day. Mrs. Writch is here till this afternoon, then took her to N. Vernon to go home.

Apr 28     We repaired some fence today on Mrs. Woodward on the old plank fence and Edy plowed some this afternoon on the sand. The ground is wet.

Apr 29     We are clearing off trash drift and stalks. Edy is plowing and Joe on Liew farm.

Apr 30     The same today. This is a very pretty day. I went out to trap this afternoon.

May 1     We are at the same, plowing and picking up and ridding up.

May 2     I went up to John Butler's this morning. This afternoon took off stalks off the bottom. Very nice day.

May 3     It rains some this forenoon. We could not plow. I went to town this afternoon. It is warm weather.

May 4     We are at home today. This is a very pretty day and warm.

May 5     We commenced to plant corn for the first today. I am harrowing on sod.

May 6     I went over to 6 mile graveyard to see about Mother's grave. We dug another grave and took her up out of the road and buried her again. The weather is cool and damp.

May 7     We planted till noon today. This afternoon we hauled out manure and plowed some. We have 10 acres planted at this time.

May 8     We were clearing out some on the fence row on clover this forenoon. This afternoon we come to plant the Betsy bottom.

May 9     We are planting the same piece today but got it done at 4 o'clock.

May 10     We took off the stalks off of the piece at Jerries' this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon.

May 11     We are at home today. This is a very nice day. The people have not planted much corn yet.

May 12     We took off stalks off of the piece that Lawrence rented off Justice this forenoon.

May 13     We are most done breaking our corn ground. It rains some today and this evening it rained a good shower.

May 14     We are choreing some. It is rainy. Too wet to plow.

May 15     We went over the creek at Jerries to plow. It is plenty wet.

May 16     We are over the creek at the same and planted a little this evening.

May 17     We finished planting over the creek at Jerrie's at noon. Then this afternoon commenced on the clover on long bottom.

May 18     We went to church today. It is a right nice day. The wind blows.

May 19     This is a rainy morning. I went to Vernon this afternoon to make out a report.

May 20     I took off 3 hogs to Lovett, sold to Hudson. 3 sows weight 1190 at 3.70 per hundred. Planted some corn this evening on clover.

May 21     We planted corn on long bottom on clover sod and got it done at noon today.

May 22     We planted corn on sod field today. The day is nice.

May 23     We planted corn on sod field today. The day is nice.

May 24     We went to Vernon and N. Vernon today. It rained last night and the creek is up some.

May 25     This is a nice day. WE are at home all day. The creek is up.

May 26     We are fixing the garden for sweet potatoes this forenoon. This afternoon we helped George Euler to plant corn. The day is nice.

May 27     We went down on Liew farm to harrow corn and replant corn. It is a poor stand. We allow to plant.

May 28     We are planting corn on the same as above, over again the second time. We got all done for this year. I hope that there will not be anymore to plant over.

May 29     Plowing corn and replanting corn.

May 30     The same as above at corn planting and replanting.

May 31     We are at the corn again. I went to town this afternoon.

Jun 1     We are at home the most of the day. We went up to Fred Hess's awhile this evening.

Jun 2     We are at work plowing corn and replanting.

Jun 3     The same today at the corn.

Jun 4     We are plowing some potatoes and harrowing corn.

Jun 5     We are replanting corn on the sod and harrowing this piece.

Jun 6     This forenoon I am fixing the fence at the hog lot to put in the hogs. Edy and Joe are plowing corn.

Jun 8     We are at work in corn on the clover sod. We need rain at this time.

Jun 9     We are plowing corn on the sod till it rained this evening.

Jun 10     It is too wet to plow corn today. I went to town to get some repair for the binder and other repairs.

Jun 11     We are at work at the corn and potatoes and I cut some clover. It is wet now.

Jun 12     We are choreing around some. It is wet, too wet to plow corn. Edy went to Vernon to mill.

Jun 13     We put up some clover hay today. It is very poor hay weather.

Jun 14     We are plowing corn but it is rather wet this afternoon. We put up some clover hay. It is bad time to cure hay.

Jun 15     We are at home. The day is warm.

Jun 16     We are cutting some briars and sprouting off sprouts off stumps.

Jun 17     I went to N. Vernon to mill this forenoon. This afternoon hoed out weeds out of corn. The ground is very wet. It rains every day now. The wheat is most ripe.

Jun 18     We are hoeing out weeds out of corn today. Will Gannon was here today. Brought Pearl Gannon, Ed's girl, down. Very wet time now.

Jun 19     We are at work in the corn hoeing out some weeds and we plowed a little with one horse today down on Liew farm but the ground is wet.

Jun 20     The same place today. Plowing and got the most of this piece done. The ground is wet.

Jun 21     Went over the creek by Jerries' to plow the second time. It is very weedy. The weather is warm.

Jun 22     We went to church. This is the last time that Brother Sebren will come to preach.

Jun 23     We cut wheat today for the first. We started with the hogs this evening to take to Lovett to Pilmer. Sold 53 head at 3.30 per hundred.

Jun 24     We got the hogs to Lovett this morning at 7 o'clock to Pilmer. Then came home and shocked wheat.

Jun 25     Cut wheat today. This is a very hot day today.

Jun 26     We went over the creek to cut wheat. Very warm.

Jun 27     We cut wheat this morning awhile. We broke a wheel on the binder.

Jun 28     Cut wheat today till 5 o'clock when it rained and we had to quit.

Jun 29     We are cutting wheat today over the creek at the lower ford.

Jun 30     We are at the wheat on Liew land today for the first. The wheat is very ripe.

Jul 1     We are at work at the wheat today and got the most of it cut.

Jul 2     We finished the wheat. All done for this year.

Jul 3     We are at work at the corn plowing and hoeing out weeds.

Jul 4     The same today as above. Weather nice.

Jul 5     The same today. I went to N. Vernon this afternoon.

Jul 6     We are at home today. The day is very nice.

Jul 7     We are plowing corn over the creek by Jerries' and this afternoon put up some clover hay.

Jul 8     We finished our clover today, then began to haul in wheat this evening.

Jul 9     We hauled in wheat today, all day and stack. We don't allow to haul in any more at this time.

Jul 10     We went down on Liew land and mowed grass and put up some this evening.

Jul 11     The same at the hay. Nice weather for hay.

Jul 12     We finished this field on bottom at noon.

Jul 13     Went to Mr. Euler's today at there new home. The weather is warm.

Jul 14     We are plowing some corn on the sod. Lawrence is cutting grass on his piece.

Jul 15     The same today as yesterday.

Jul 16     We cut grass on Liew place at stable piece.

Jul 17     We finished our hay for this year. The weather is dry.

Jul 18     We plowed some corn and hoed out some weeds but the ground is very dry. We need rain.

Jul 19     I went to Vernon and took up load of old wheat. .75 a bu.

Jul 20     We are at home today. The day is nice but very dry.

Jul 21     We are hoeing out some weeds out of the corn. Very dry.

Jul 22     The same as on yesterday.

Jul 23     I started up to see about the thrashing machine and it set in to rain and I came home. Nice rain after the dry spell.

Jul 24     I went to Vernon this morning and got some sacks to haul wheat in. When we thrash we went to thrash till next week now.

Jul 25     We are still at the corn a hoeing out some weeds.

Jul 26     I was helping Lawrence to plow corn on his corn on Justice's. I went to church this evening. This is the first sermon for Mon Swarthout (Rev. James Monroe Swarthout)on his year's call.

Jul 27     We went to church today again. Weather warm.

Jul 28     We have the thrashing machine today to thrash out of shock.

Jul 29     We are helping John James and Mike Simons to thrash.

Jul 30     The same, a helping.

Jul 31     We helping to thrash at Sebe Ewings this morning. At Euler's this afternoon. Very warm.

Aug 1     We helped at Euler's this morning. Got done then went to Woodward's.

Aug 2     Helped Harrison Spencer to thrash this morning.

Aug 3     This is a very warm day. We are at home.

Aug 4     We went over and helped Jim Marsh to thrash. It rained some.

Aug 5     We are hauling out manure. The weather warm and quite dry yet.

Aug 6     The same today as on yesterday. We are at the manure.

Aug 7     We went to the Fair at N. Vernon.

Aug 8     The same today as on yesterday. Weather dry.

Aug 9     We are hauling out some manure, got done. Weather dry.

Aug 10     We are at home today. Brannon's are here today.

Aug 11     I went to look for some help to cut down the thicket on tomorrow. Jim Marsh and wife are here today. Still dry.

Aug 12     We commenced the thicket with six hands today at work on it.

Aug 13     The same today at the thicket. Very dry weather.

Aug 14     Four of us cut at the thicket this afternoon. It rained a few sprinkles this forenoon and we did not work.

Aug 15     We cut at the thicket all day. 7 of us. We are getting most done.

Aug 16     We, 7 of us, cut on the thicket and got most done. Only a few left. Weather very dry.

Aug 17     We are at home all day. Warm and dry yet.

Aug 18     There was a nice rain this morning after a long dry spell. We cut some corn off today.

Aug 19     The same today. Cut corn and plowed a piece for turnips. Some more rain.

Aug 20     We sowed turnips today and commenced to break for wheat.

Aug 21     We are breaking up for wheat and spreading manure over the ground.

Aug 22     The same today.

Aug 23     The same at the plowing. The weather cool and pleasant.

Aug 24     We went to church today. The weather is nice.

Aug 25     We are plowing and a part of us went to help Thompson Childs to thrash this afternoon.

Aug 26     Rain this morning and it rained most all day. The machine did not get done at Childs'.

Aug 27     We are mowing some woods down along the road this forenoon. This afternoon went to plowing again. The rain wet the ground good.

Aug 28     I went to N. Vernon this forenoon, when I got home the machine was coming to thrash for us. We thrashed the rest of our wheat this afternoon. All done for this year. Whole amount raised this year, 573 bu.

Aug 29     Still plowing. We cut a few bushes on the thicket.

Aug 30     We hauled some seed clover and stacked it as we could not get the machine at this time. This afternoon went down on the thicket and burned some brush.

Aug 31     We went up to Tull Sullivan's to visit. Very nice weather at this time.

Sep 1     We finished stacking our seed clover this morning. Edy is plowing for wheat.

Sep 2     I went to Camel's mill to get a load of lumber to cover our seed clover stack and this afternoon we covered it.

Sep 3     We shucked corn out of shock of dent corn this forenoon. Edy is plowing.

Sep 4     We are choreing some this forenoon. This afternoon we are at the thicket cutting off some sprouts.

Sep 5     We, Lawrence and I, are down in the thicket at work cutting briars and sprouts.

Sep 6     We went to N. Vernon to the Farmer's Meeting. This is a very nice day.

Sep 7     We went over to church to hear Brother Childs.

Sep 8     We commenced to cut corn this morning. This afternoon we commenced to thrash clover seed and it rained and we quit it.

Sep 9     We finished our clover at noon. Only 5 bushels of it. Then we shucked corn out of shock of dent corn.

Sep 10     I went to Kokomo to Hugh Stewart's today. It rained most of the day.

Sep 11     I am at Hugh's this morning. I got there last night. This is a wet time. Rain a little all day.

Sep 12     Still at Hugh's but went over to Spalden's.

Sep 13     I came home from Hugh's today. Got home tonight. This is a nice day. We have not sown any wheat yet but have got the ground ready.

Sep 14     We are at home most of the day. We went down to John James' awhile to see Freelen's folks, out from Kokomo.

Sep 15     We are shucking corn some to feed off the little dent corn.

Sep 16     We are hauling out some manure on top of the plowed ground for wheat.

Sep 17     We are cleaning some seed wheat this morning. This afternoon we began to sow wheat for the first.

Sep 18     We are still sowing wheat. The weather is nice.

Sep 19     We got the 15 acre field done this morning. Then loaded up two loads of corn and took it to N. Vernon. .50 per bu.

Sep 20     We went to Hardenburg to the Harvest Home. This is a nice day. Went to church tonight.

Sep 21     Went to church today. Then the rest of the folks went to Centerville to church. Very nice day.

Sep 22     We are hauling out some manure and cutting corn. Weather very nice but some day. Sep 23     We, Edy and I, are cutting corn today. Weather nice, some dry.

Sep 24     We cut corn till noon, when we finished all our corn we allow to cut this year.

Sep 25     We are shucking some corn out of shock. It rained some and we had to quit it.

Sep 26     This is a dark and rainy day. It rained hard at noon today and some this afternoon. The ground is nicely wet.

Sep 27     I took up a load of corn to Gagen at N. Vernon this morning. It is dark, drizzly forenoon. This evening shucked corn.

Sep 28     We are at home today, all day.

Sep 29     We took up two loads of corn to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon I harrowed on the little piece beside where Lawrence is drilling today.

Sep 30     We sowed the little piece to wheat this afternoon and Lawrence got his piece done at noon on the shock field.

Oct 1     We are choreing some. It rained most of the forenoon. We cut some briars on Liew.

Oct 2     We are cutting some bricks down on the Liew farm. It is rainy. Too wet to sow wheat at this time. We went to old Vernon this afternoon to mill and market.

Oct 3     We took two loads of corn to N. Vernon, one to Renel's, the other to George Verberg. .54

Oct 4     We shucked corn out of shock this forenoon. This afternoon it rained some then we went to cut some briars on Liew.

Oct 5     We are at home. This is a dark day and it rains some. Ben Miller was here today. He came to see about the building a house.

Oct 6     It is wet at this time, too wet to sow wheat. The ground is very wet. We cut some briars down on Liew.

Oct 7     I went to N. Vernon and made the arrangements with J. B. Miller to build a house on the Liew farm. Then went to old Vernon and sent to Jim and Tilda their part which is all of their interest.

Oct 8     We are shucking some corn out of shock for feed and where we went to sow wheat we are not done yet. If we had a drill it would do today.

Oct 9     We were harrowing today on the wheat ground. It is dry enough. It is the field by the house. We can not get a drill till Saturday. We had the roan colt hitched up for the first time today.

Oct 10     We was hauling some rails on Liew farm and making a fence along the road at the stable field. Very nice day and warm.

Oct 11     We are drilling in wheat by the crib field. We did not get it quite done today.

Oct 12     We are at home today. Mr. Marsh is here, also Fred Hess and folks. Very warm.

Oct 13     We drilled some wheat this morning and got the field done at the house, then it rained.

Oct 14     This afternoon we are at the wheat drill. We are not done yet.

Oct 15     We finished our wheat sowing at noon today. This afternoon went to town. Church commenced on last night.

Oct 16     Rain this morning. We took up a load of corn this afternoon to N. Vernon to Randall's. The last load of old corn left. .53 per bu.

Oct 17     Hauling out timber for the new house on the Liew farm. Miller's has the contract.

Oct 18     We are at the same, hauling some more timber out to the ground.

Oct 19     We went to church today. Nice day.

Oct 20     We went to church at 10 o'clock. The boys are hauling timber for the house.

Oct 21     I went to N. Vernon for a load of weather boarding for house. Taylor Sullivan is fixing the wall of house.

Oct 22     Edy went to N. Vernon and got a load of brick for the flues for house and some lime for wall.

Oct 23     Lawrence went to town to get lime and Edy and I are hauling gravel on the road. Rainy time and dark weather.

Oct 24     I went to old Vernon to mill and paid my tax today. The Protracted Meeting is going on yet tonight.

Oct 25     I am choreing some. Edy is hauling rock for the wall and Taylor Sullivan is fixing the wall on house. The Meeting is going on yet at the church. Some rains.

Oct 26     Went to church.

Oct 27     Went to N. Vernon and took up a load of whet and brought out a load for the house. The carpenters are at work.

Oct 28     I hauled sand to plaster the house this forenoon. This afternoon we worked at the potatoes and got them dug.

Oct 29     I went to Asbury Green's this morning. This afternoon brought out a load of joist and shingles for house.

Oct 30     We shocked corn out of shock of dent corn. (Dent corn is another name for field corn/which is commonly used for animal feed.)

Oct 31     We commenced to gather corn on the stalk today for the first to crib. Today very cool and dark.

Nov 1     The same today, at the corn.

Nov 2     We are at home this is a very nice day today.

Nov 3     We are gathering corn on the long bottom. Very nice day.

Nov 4     The same today till noon then quit and went to the Burg to the election.

Nov 5     We are at the corn this afternoon. I went to N. Vernon and hauled out the lathe for the house. This is nice weather.

Nov 6     We are gathering corn and John James is helping us.

Nov 7     I went to N. Vernon and brought out the lime to plaster the house. The boys are at the corn and this evening we commenced over the creek at Jerries' for the first two loads. There is nice weather.

Nov 8     Gathered corn over the creek at Jerries'. 150 out of this piece.

Nov 9     We are at home. It rains some today and tonight.

Nov 10     It rains some this morning. We gathered one load of corn on Justice land for Lawrence and then quit and then went to N. Vernon after a load of lumber for house.

Nov 11     We gathered corn today till 8 o'clock. It rained. The last load we gathered in the rain. We quit. We were helping Lawrence to gather corn and Harrison Spencer's helping.

Nov 12     It rained most of last night and some this morning. We are choreing around. The ground is wet and muddy.

Nov 13     We are shucking out some corn out of shock this forenoon. This afternoon we are hauling water to mix up the plaster. The mason's came out and he put up the flues on the house.

Nov 14     We shucked corn on Liew farm this forenoon. This afternoon on the old and new bottom and John James is helping. This is a very nice day.

Nov 15     We are shucking corn on the stalk on the old and new bottom and we got this piece done at noon and one load more out of long bottom. John James is helping. The carpenters went home. They got all done. Ready for the plasterer. We went to church.

Nov 16     We are at home. There is church today but it rains some and the creek is past fording today.

Nov 17     It is a rainy morning. We gathered one load of corn this forenoon.

Nov 18     We gathered three quarters of a day. 3 load of corn. We hauled some water for the plasterer this morning.

Nov 19     We are gathering corn all day. This forenoon on the long bottom we got all done but 15 bu. at noon today. This afternoon went on Liew and got two loads.

Nov 20     We are gathering corn for Lawrence today and John James is helping. This afternoon I hauled water and sand for the house plasterers. This is now enough to finish the house.

Nov 21     We are gathering corn for Lawrence on the Justice farm. WE got done at 3 o'clock then went down on the Liew farm to gather. Got one load.

Nov 22     We are at the corn today. We are most done. One more day on stalk yet. The plasterers got done the house after two coats at noon. Then went home. Very nice weather at this time.

Nov 23     We went over to F. R. Gannons today and they were not at home.

Nov 24     We are at the corn gathering and finished all on the stalk today.

Nov 25     We went to Vernon to mill and market. Took up 27 bu of wheat and sold it to Goff at old Vernon. .90.

Nov 26     We, Lawrence are shucking corn out of shock. It is very dry. The weather is nice. Edy is plowing for corn on sod.

Nov 27     I hauled in the corn we shucked yesterday. The weather is very nice at this time. Frost at night.

Nov 28     We are shucking corn out of shock. It is very dry. The weather nice. Frost every night.

Nov 29     We shucked corn out of shock till noon. This afternoon hauled it in. Edy is plowing sod for next spring corn. Weather nice.

Nov 30     We went up to John Hedges' today. This is a very nice day, some cool.

Dec 1     We are shucking corn out of shock. It is a dry spell.

Dec 2     We are burning some brush on the lower end of the thicket. THe weather is dry and frosty.

Dec 3     I hauled out some manure this morning on the sod where Edy is plowing. He is most done this field. This afternoon went to N. Vernon and took up 20 bu of wheat. Wheat is only worth .85.

Dec 4     We are choreing some. It is right cool today. The ground is some froze so it doesn't do to plow.

Dec 5     The same today. Edy plowed this afternoon.

Dec 6     We shucked corn out of shock. It is quite dry. We have about 100 yet to shuck out.

Dec 7     We are at home today. It is a cool day. Snowed some tonight.

Dec 8     We, Edy and I, are taking away the old plank fence along the hedge fence on sod so we can plow to the hedge. All done plowing this field but this row.

Dec 9     The same till noon when we got it all done. Then hauled some fodder.

Dec 10     We went over to Jim Marsh's all day. It is a nice day. Some snow on. It melted most of today.

Dec 11     We hauled in fodder and stacked it. The fodder is very dry. This is frosty dry weather.

Dec 12     We went to shucking corn but we quit. It is very dry. Froze some and dry and frosty.

Dec 13     Went to Vernon to mill then to N. Vernon. This is a nice day but cool. The weather is dry and frosty.

Dec 14     We went over to Harrison Spencer's on a visit. This is a nice day.

Dec 15     We are hauling out some manure today.

Dec 16     We took off 8 hogs and 1 cow and calf to Hardenburg. Sold to Haley to ship to the city. Hogs is only .03. cow $21.00.

Dec 17     We are shucking some corn out of shock. A little snow on this morning.

Dec 18     The same today. The fodder is very dry. The weather is frosty. The plasterer got all done with the house today and went home.

Dec 19     The same at the corn. We are most done. The fodder is very dry. The weather is frosty.

Dec 20     We are shucking corn out of shock and got it all done for this year. This afternoon went to church. The preacher did not come.

Dec 21     We are at home. There is no church today. Sam Young and wife are here. It is a nice day.

Dec 22     We are hauling in some fodder this forenoon. This afternoon Edy finished plowing the sod field by the hedge. The carpenters came on this morning after the plaster work was dry to put on the door cases and window casing. Very nice weather.

Dec 23     We hauled some more fodder in this morning. This afternoon we plowed the yard and harrowed it and hauled manure on it and sowed it to grass. This is a very nice day.

Dec 24     I went to N. Vernon and took up the heifers calf and sold it to Stinger for veal. It weighed 170 lbs at .035/lb. $5.95. The carpenters got all done, the house ready for paint and went home this afternoon.

Dec 25     We are at home all day. This is a very storm day. Snows and blows all day long and tonight too the snow blows in to every crack of a building.

Dec 26     This is a very nice winter day. The snow is about 5 or 6 inches on the ground it is still a nice day.

Dec 27     We are hauling in some fodder on the sled with the colts. We are breaking them for the first time to the sled.

Dec 28     We went to N. Vernon on the sled. It is not very good sleighing. The roads are bare some places. The snow has blown off. The wind blows hard today and is quite stormy.

Dec 29     We are hauling out some manure on the sled and some fodder up to the barn.

Dec 30     The same today. The snow is melting fast today. It is quite warm.

Dec 31     We are choreing some. It is sloppy and bad. The snow is most all gone off. It is warm.

Jan 5     The ground is froze this morning. I am sowing grass seed on thicket today. Edy is hauling out manure.

Jan 7     The same as on yesterday. The weather is nice. It freezes at night and thaws some in daylight.

Jan 15     I am choreing some. Edy went to Vernon and got some medicine for Fred Hess, he has got rheumatism.

Jan 16     I and Edy went to mill at old Vernon. Edy got his boots fixed at N. Vernon.

Jan 17     We hauled out some manure out on the wheat this morning. I went to church at half past 10 o'clock this morning.

Jan 18     We went to church this morning. It is right cold and chilly. The roads are froze and rough.

Jan 19     We are cutting some wood and choreing.

Jan 20     We butchered our hogs today this morning. This evening we cut some stove wood. Billy Boner is helping.

Jan 21     We are cutting up the pork and salting it down and making sausage. It rained a little.

Jan 22     We are not doing much. The day is bad.

Jan 23     I am not doing very much. I am home. Edy and Billy Boner are sawing wood. The weather is damp and muddy.

Jan 24     I sowed some grass seed this morning. This afternoon I am not doing. Edy and Billy are sowing.

Jan 25     We are at home today. The day is nice. George and Emma are here today.

Jan 26     We are not doing very much. I am quite lame with my back for some days. Edy is splitting some wood. Weather nice but muddy.

Jan 27     The same as on yesterday. Very nice day and warm today but muddy. Fred Hess is very bad sick at this time. Has been sick for over two weeks.

Jan 28     We are not doing much. It is rainy and bad. Fred is very sick.

Jan 29     Fred Hess died last night and will bury him tomorrow at Vernon.

Jan 30     We went to the funeral of Fred Hess today. He was buried at Vernon. This is a nice day. There were a great many at the funeral.

Jan 31     This is a rainy day. We are not doing very much. I went up to Lawrence's and settled accounts with him and I let him have Fan and Polly mares for his own team.

Feb 1     We went down to John James' today. Some rain, the creek is high this morning.

Feb 2     We are cutting stove wood. This is a nice day and mostly clear, sunshine day.

Feb 3     We are choreing some. Not doing very much.

Feb 4     We went up to Tull Sullivan's and spent the day with him and folks.

Feb 5     We went over to Liew Lattimore's. Tull and folks and John James and Bec. This was a nice day.

Feb 6     We hauled in a stack of hay this forenoon. This afternoon I went up to see Mr. Haynes. He is sick at this time.

Feb 7     We are not doing much. It is a rainy day.

Feb 9     It rains some this morning. We went to N. Vernon this afternoon.

Feb 10     I went to the sale at Sleet's and bought a shotgun for $7.80 at the sale.

Feb 12     I am choreing some this forenoon. Edy and Maw went up to see the sick at Haynes.

Feb 13     We cut some stove wood today. The weather is very nice.

Feb 14     I went to N. Vernon and took up a load of corn and got .55. The boys went to the fox drive over the creek in Lovett ___?.

Feb 15     We are at home. Mike Simons' are here. It rains some today.

Feb 16     We are not doing much. It rained most all night and some today. the creek is the highest it has been for seven or eight months.

Feb 17     I am choreing some today. Trimming some apple trees. Edy went to the wedding at Euler's.

Feb 18     We went over to Mr. Branam's to the affair of William and Emma. They were married yesterday. Stormy this evening.

Feb 19     I done but very little today. the weather is dark and rains some and very muddy. I went up to Thompson Childs' and Norman Gannon's today.

Feb 20     We are not doing very much. It rains today and the creek is high.

Feb 21     This is the day of Hess' sale. We were there. The creek is high this morning but it is on the fall.

Feb 22     We are at home today. Hoaty(?) Hess and her father is here today. This is a very nice day but the ground is muddy.

Feb 28     I went to N. Vernon and then went down to old Vernon to see Bailey about fixing my teeth. He is going to fix them.

Mar 1     We are at home today. Tull Sullivan and folks are here. It is a stormy day.

Mar 2     We went over the creek at the lower ford to break weeds on clover.

Mar 3     I am not doing much this forenoon. It is a dark day and it set in to rain this afternoon and tonight it snows.

Mar 4     We are hauling in a stack of hay from the Liew farm. It is right cold and the ground is white with snow.

Mar 5     We had one more load of hay to haul this morning. Then we had to measure out two loads of corn for Will Branam.

Mar 6     I went down to Dr. Gadies' and got some medicine for self. Edy and Billy Boner is sawing wood. It is slick sleet on this morning. I sowed the clover this evening on old and new bottom.

Mar 7     I went to old Vernon today and took up a load of wheat and paid my tax or the one half. This is a chilly day.

Mar 8     We are at home today. It is cool and the ground is muddy.

Mar 9     I am not doing very much. I am lame and stiff for some time.

Mar 10     I finished sowing the clover on wheat ground this morning. The ground was froze this morning.

Mar 11     I went to N. Vernon and then to old Vernon. Took a load of wheat to Goff, got .91 today. Very nice.

Mar 12     I am not doing much. Edy and Billy Boner are sawing wood this afternoon. Right nice day. There was a little snow on this morning but it went off before noon.

Mar 13     We are not doing much. There was a big snow fell last night and today. It is melting slowly, cold enough not to melt much.

Mar 15     We are at home and Harrison Spencer and folks are here. The snow don't melt off very fast.

Apr 8     We are draining off some water off the old Sullivan bottom below Cal Justice's. This is a very wet time.

Apr 10     We are setting out some cherry trees this morning. This afternoon we are making a water trough for horses to drink out of. Very wet.

Apr 11     We hauled home the trough, then hauled some manure out of stable.

Apr 12     We are at home today and George and Emma are here. Very nice day.

Apr 13     We are repairing fence at the yard to keep out chickens out of yard. This afternoon went over the creek at Mrs. Woodward's fence to repair some. Nice day.

Apr 14     I went to old Vernon with a load of wheat. Sold to Goff at .95.

Apr 15     We are hauling off wheat today to McGannon at N. Vernon. The day is very nice.

Apr 16     We are at the same as on yesterday. Hauling wheat to N. Vernon. Got $1.00 a bu. We got done. Weather nice and warm.

Apr 17     We are hauling out some manure on garden and potato patch and then plowed the garden and set out the onions. Then it came a big rain and stopped work.

Apr 18     We are choreing some this forenoon. It is wet. We went to church this afternoon.

Apr 19     Went to church, this is a very nice day.

Apr 20     We plowed the orchard and sowed it to oats.

Apr 21     We plowed some potato patch and got a few planted. Then the rain came and stopped us.

Apr 22     We are hauling up corn to N. Vernon today to Mc Gannon mill. It is .75 a bu at this time.

Apr 23     We took up one more load today at the same price. It is very wet at this time. WE have not got any broke for corn yet.

Apr 24     We are making a levy on the creek bank on the long bottom and hauled some sand to plaster kitchen.

Apr 25     We are braking some stalks on the long bottom. This is the first this spring. It has been so wet.

Apr 26     We are at home.

Apr 27     We commenced to plow a little for corn today. After we finished planting potatoes.

Apr 28     We are plowing for corn with 2 teams. The two colts is at the plows for the first.

May 1     We are at the same today. Weather nice.

May 2     We are still at the plowing on long bottom and got it all plowed and harrowed at noon. This is all we have ready.

May 11     We finished our sod piece of corn after dinner today then went to break on the Betsy bottom.

May 15     We finished braking and rolling this morning. Then went to planting, got all the Betsy done.

May 16     We went over the creek by Jerrie's to commence to break up for the first. We are all done but his piece. Edy and Joe went to N. Vernon with a load of corn this afternoon. Corn is worth .71.

May 17     We went to church today. The weather is very nice but very dry. We are not done planting yet. The ground is hard, too dry for corn to all come up.

May 18     We are over the creek at Jerries' plowing and harrowing for corn.

May 19     We are finishing up all our corn planting today for this year.

May 20     I went to Vernon and got 600 sweet potato sprouts off H. Reed and set them out. A little rain today.

May 21     I went to Vernon to mill and took up the Jersey calf to J. New, got $25 for it.

May 22     I took up a load of corn to N. Vernon and Edy took up a load of corn to old Vernon. We got .70 at each place. Big rain this evening after a long time.

May 23     We, Edy and I, took up four loads of corn to McGannon's mill, got .68.

May 24     We are at home today. The day is nice.

May 25     We are at work breaking up the old Sullivan bottom. Expect to sow on wheat this fall on this piece.

May 26     The same today. The weather is nice but cool at this time.

May 27     The same, we are most done on this piece. Sowed some corn on it today to turn under this fall for wheat. Very cool tonight.

May 28     We got the piece on the Sullivan bottom done. All done planting for this year. Edy commenced to plow corn this afternoon for the first this year on Long bottom. Cool weather.

May 29     Worked in the corn this forenoon. This afternoon took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Bob Wrape at .68 per bu.

May 30     We are painting the screens this forenoon. It rains a little this forenoon. This afternoon plowing corn on Long bottom.

Jun 1     I went to old Vernon to court. The boys are plowing corn till noon. Then went to N. Vernon and brought out the carpenters.

Jun 19     We, Edy, plowed a little corn this afternoon. It is pretty wet yet.

Jun 20     I went to N. Vernon this morning. Then to church this afternoon. Big rain today and then this evening.

Jun 21     I went to church this morning. The creek is deep fording. WE all went to church this evening. The wheat is about ripe.

Jun 22     We commenced to cut our wheat today. the ground is soft for there has been so much rain.

Jun 23     Same and we got the field done at the house this morning. Then went on down on the lower.

Jun 24     The same, cut wheat and we plowed some corn this morning. Weather very nice.

Jun 25     We got all done our wheat cutting that we can do. It is so bad down we cannot cut it with the binder. So Boner and Lawrence is going to mow it and rake it up and thrash it and give one half of the wheat thrashed.

Jun 26     We are plowing corn on Long bottom, got 3 times over at noon, then went on Edy's and Jake's corn on old Sullivan bottom. Nice weather.

Jun 27     We are plowing corn on sod and Canfield's are helping hoe out weeds today. Lawrence got his wheat cut today, all done.

Jun 28     We are at home. This is a warm day.

Jun 29     We are at work in the corn plowing and hoeing out weeds out of corn.

Jun 30     The same in corn. The weather is nice.

Jul 1     We are still at the corn work.

Jul 2     We are at the corn till noon. We got over the corn the 3 times, then this afternoon hauled in wheat and stalks.

Jul 3     We are stacking wheat today, all day. It is a very nice day.

Jul 4     We finished stacking our wheat today for this year.

Jul 5     We are at home. The weather is very nice. It is quite cool.

Jul 6     I went to old Vernon and took up a load part of wheat and corn to grind for feed and wheat to sell and get flour for bread. Also came by N. Vernon and paid the Miller Brothers for the house that they built for me where Lawrence lives. Paid them $450.

Jul 7     We were over the creek at Jerries' at work at the corn till noon. This afternoon it rained most of the time. It is a nice rain.

Jul 8     We are mowing down some weeds this forenoon. This afternoon we are hoeing weeds out of the corn. The ground is wet at this time.

Jul 9     We, this morning are finishing our corn at Jerries' for the last time. Got ti done. Then went to the hay over at the field at Woodward's. It is a nice day.

Jul 10     We are at our hay on the same as above. We stacked the most, hauled home some.

Jul 11     We are at the hay and got this piece done all but one load. All we allow to cut off this piece. Very nice day.

Jul 12     We are at home. Ben Miller and Henry are here today. It is a very nice day.

Jul 13     We cut grass up at Lawrence's house this forenoon and put it up.

Jul 14     We hauled in one load of hay we had out then this afternoon mowed weeds out of corn on Long bottoms.

Jul 15     We mowed today and put up the hay off of the same. Weather nice at this time.

Jul 16     We are helping to thrash wheat on the mowed wheat Billy Boner and Lawrence took to cut and thrash off on the half.

Jul 17     I took up a load of what to old Vernon to Goff and got .75 per bu. We got done thrashing this evening. No of bushels of mowed wheat on this field, 255.

Jul 18     We, Joe and I, took up the rest of the rent wheat to Goff, 108 bu at .75. Went to church this afternoon.

Jul 19     Went to church today. This is a very nice day. Gonn's (Gahn's) folks came here today from church.

Jul 20     We cut the oats this forenoon. This afternoon helped Tull Sullivan to thrash wheat. Sowed clover in corn on old Sullivan bottom today.

Jul 21     We are helping Lawrence and then Mike Simon to thrash wheat. Got there wheat all done.

Jul 22     I took up the load of wheat this morning that was thrashed at Lawrence's on yesterday. This afternoon put up hay on Liew farm.

Jul 23     We are mowing and putting up hay. The weather is nice but we need rain.

Jul 24     The same till 2 o'clock when we was stopped by the little rain but it did not rain much. We came home and we hauled in our oats. Brother McCoy died on yesterday.

Jul 25     Brother McCoy is buried today.

Jul 26     We are at the hay. It is not very much of a day to dry the hay.

Jul 29     We are at the hay. It is a right nice day for hay. The weather is dry. Need rain very much.

Jul 31     I went to N. Vernon to get the wagon box and get a tire set on the other wagon wheel. There is a show there today. Joe went to it.

Aug 1     We took up two load of corn to N. Vernon to the feed store to Gagen. Got .60 per bu.

Aug 2     We are at home. There was a nice rain tonight after a long dry spell of weather.

Aug 3     Big rain this morning and this forenoon. It has rained some. We cut down some weeds and briars this afternoon.

Aug 4     We are hauling off corn to N. Vernon to Hillerman and some to Hicks and McGannon. Corn is worth .65.

Aug 5     We are still a hauling corn today to McGannon.

Aug 6     We went to the Fair today. This is a nice day. A great many people was there.

Aug 7     I took up a load of corn to Hillerman of N. Vernon. The rest of the folks went to the Fair.

Aug 8     We are mowing down weeds and briars today along the fences and along the roadside. Mr. James Ewing died this evening. I went and stayed over at the house tonight.

Aug 9     We are at home the most of the day. We went to the funeral of Mr. Ewing this evening. He was buried.

Aug 10     We are hauling out manure on the ground for wheat. It is very warm and it is some dry. Need rain at this time.

Aug 11     The same at the manure and got it about all out of the yard.

Aug 12     We are hauling some wood to thrash with. We expect the machine soon. I went to N. Vernon this evening and bought a new buggy off Moss Brothers.

Aug 13     We are helping Sebe Ewing to thrash today. Edy is plowing.

Aug 14     I am helping Jim Marsh to thrash this forenoon. This afternoon helping Charley Woodward to thrash.

Aug 15     We, Edy and I, are helping Woodward. The weather warm and dry. Need rain very bad.

Aug 16     We are at home today. It rains most of the forenoon. There was to have been church today at the wood but the rain stopped it. The rain was badly needed.

Aug 17     We are choreing some. We was expecting the machine to thrash this afternoon but they did not get Walter Hess done till most night. Then they moved down tonight to thrash tomorrow.

Aug 18     We are thrashing today and got done at noon. No of bu, 338. The machine moved over to George Euler's and thrashed this afternoon. We are all helping him.

Aug 19     We are helping George till noon when he got all done and we came home. It rained the most of the evening.

Aug 20     We are plowing some for wheat and Joe and I are trimming hedge. Lots of rain.

Aug 21     The same as on yesterday. We trimmed some hedge and still plowing.

Aug 23     We are at home. It is rainy most of the day. It has been a slow rain most of the day. The ground is well soaked now.

Sep 2     We went out to Tea Creek to Association. The weather nice. We got done plowing for wheat today.

Sep 3     We went to Association today again. This is a very nice day for it till this evening when it sprinkled rain some but the folks got about home.

Sep 5     This forenoon it has been raining all forenoon. Cloudy and dark. Edy and I went to N. Vernon this afternoon. It is dark.

Sep 6     We are at home all day and no one here.

Sep 7     Maw and I went to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon I was painting some on the house that we got repaired.

Sep 8     I and Joe went to John Roots' to get some plank for the road culvert. We got a few. Came home and fixed the one by the orchard this forenoon. This afternoon we was painting some. Edy is harrowing on the wheat ground across the creek.

Sep 9     Joe and I are painting all day on the house and Edy is harrowing on the wheat ground.

Sep 10     Joe and I finished up the painting this morning. This afternoon Joe rolled on wheat ground. Edy is harrowing and I finished trimming hedge for this year.

Sep 11     Maw and I went to N. Vernon this morning to the doctor to get medicine for herself for a pain in shoulder and back. This afternoon worked on the road land tax out.

Sep 12     We are at work on road. The farmers had a picnic at Lovett today. We did not go. This is a nice day.

Sep 20     I left Ewing's at 2 o'clock and came up to Jim Stewart's and stayed with him overnight.

Sep 21     I left Jim's house this morning and got to Marshal's tonight and stayed with him overnight. Edy commenced to sow wheat today.

Sep 22     I and Marshal went up to Springfield this morning and was up all day. Edy sowed wheat.

Sep 23     We left Brookline this morning to come home. We came as far as St. Louis. Got there about 7 o'clock, stayed there overnight.

Sep 24     We went to the Exposition at St. Louis. There all day till 8 o'clock when we left to come home. We got home the next morning at N. Vernon at 5 o'clock.

Sep 25     We got home this morning from our visit in Missouri. The weather is quite warm and dry.

Sep 26     We cut corn some this forenoon for about the first this year.

Sep 27     This afternoon we took up the last load of old corn to N. Vernon mill. Sold it for .60 per bu.

Oct 3     We cut corn today. The weather is very nice at this time.

Oct 4     We went up to James E. Williams today. Maw, Bessie and I. It rained some.

Oct 23     We are hauling gravel on the road over the creek at Sebe Ewing's to get the road graveled. I gave one day. The weather is very dry frost at night.

Oct 24     We hauled in stove wood to the wood house.

Oct 25     We went over to H. R. Gannon's today. This is a very pretty day. The roads are nice and good. The weather is dry and big frost at night.

Oct 26     We finished filling our wood house with wood at noon today. This afternoon went over to Ewing's at Hardenburg to get some molasses.

Oct 27     We hauled out the old straw stack manure on the orchard.

Oct 28     We put away our tools this forenoon. This afternoon we commenced to gather corn. Got one load and cribbed it. The corn is a little damp yet, most too damp to put much together but there has been a long dry spell of weather and yet it is dry and frosty. Big frosts at night.

Oct 29     Edy and I are gathering corn on Long bottom. It is barely fit to crib yet. The weather is very dry at this time and frosts at night and will dry out fast.

Oct 30     The same as on yesterday, still dry.

Oct 31     We are at the corn today again and Joe is at home helping to gather. The weather still is dry yet, no prospect of rain. We have only gathered a small amount this year. Tonight we have only got in all for feed and what we have in crib is 310 bu.

Nov 1     We went up to Mr. Euler's today. It is cool day and dry weather. We need rain.

Nov 2     We, Edy, are hauling rock to finish walling the well at Lawrence's. We did not gather corn today. The weather is still dry yet. Too dry for the wheat to do well.

Nov 3     We gathered corn on Long bottom. Weather dry. Nice time to work. George Euler is helping to gather.

Nov 21     We are not gathering corn this forenoon. This afternoon the boys worked in shock. We went to church this forenoon and tonight. The rest of the folks went , I am at home.

Nov 22     We are at home. The creek is up. There is church but we cannot get over. We set the preachers over this morning and it is bad.

Nov 23     We are in the house most of the day. It is wet this morning and set in to snow most all day. Very bad day.

Nov 24     We, Hedges and W. Wetzell, Edy and self are shucking corn out of the shock today. It is a cool raw day and the ground is wet and soft for it rained yesterday and snowed. The snow melted off last night.

Nov 25     We, Wetzell, Edy and I are shucking corn out of shock and hauled in what we had shucked. It is some muddy but pleasant overhead.

Nov 26     We went over to church today and took our dinner and had two sermons and tonight it broke with 5 accessions.

Nov 27     We are shucking corn out of shock. Hedge and Wetzell is helping. The ground is soft and wet.

Nov 28     We are shucking corn out of shock. Hedge, Edy and Will Wetzell. I am in the house with a cold and ear ache. The day is chilly and raw.

Nov 29     We are at home today. I am around the house all day with a cold and cannot hear hardly. The day is right chilly.

Nov 30     Will Wetzell and Edy are hauling in fodder this forenoon. This afternoon went over the creek at Jerries' and got two loads of corn. There is ten or twelve bushels left there yet. I am in the house this three day with my cold and cannot hear very well.

Dec 1     I am in the house about all day. Cannot hear very well. Dr. Green came out and gave me some medicine this afternoon. Will Wetzell and Edy are helping George Euler to gather corn today. It is a right nice day today but cool.

Dec 2     The boys are helping George this forenoon. This afternoon Edy and Joe commenced to gather their piece. Hedge and Will Wetzell is helping. I am in the house with the cold and deaf. Frank Gannon and Jane and Sarah Swarthout are here.

Dec 3     The boys are at the corn, finished all up on stalk this forenoon. This afternoon worked in shock. We have about 60 shocks left, only if it holds good for two more days. We will be done all and fodder in too. But I am still in the house yet and cannot hear any better.

Dec 4     Will Wetzell and Edy are shucking corn out of shock most of the day. It snowed some about 9 o'clock for awhile but then cleared off again. So they went to work, if it is good weather tomorrow, they will get about done. I am still in the house.

Dec 5     We finished our corn for this year. All done but a few loads of fodder out. This has been a nice day but I am still in the house. Cannot hear what is said.

Dec 6     We are at home all day. I am in the house, cannot hear any better than one week ago. It rains some today.

Dec 7     I am at home. Joe and Maw went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is quite a chilly day. I am in the house, cannot hear any better yet.

Dec 8     We are not doing much. Mr. Euler is hauling corn away from here that he got off Edy and Joe. It is a nice day. I am still in the house yet. Cannot heat, hardly at all.

Dec 9     Edy is hauling hay to N. Vernon for George Euler. The weather is very nice at this time but a little muddy. The corn is about all in for this year. I am still in or about the house. Don't hear any better yet.

Dec 18     We are at work trying to make a levy on Long bottom aside of George Euler's to keep the water from washing through. This is very nice weather for several days.

Dec 19     We went to church this forenoon. This afternoon we worked some on the levy. Very nice weather.

Dec 20     We went to church. The day is nice. Maw is sick, could not go to church.

Dec 21     We are at work on the levy on Long bottom. It is nice weather, freezes at night and thaws some in daytime. Maw is some better.

Dec 22     We took away our hogs to Lovett, sold to Carson 7 head of hogs. Avg weight 428 lbs at .03 a pound, $90.

Dec 23     I am not hardly able to get out today. I got more cold on yesterday and I am right poorly. A great deal of rain fell tonight and the creek is high tonight.

Dec 24     The creek is high today. Maw and I have the grippe yet.

Dec 25     We are at home today, all day. Hardly able to get out, Maw and I, both of us. It has been a kind of gloomy day and the ground is wet.

Dec 26     Edy went to N. Vernon today, got salt and coal oil. The day is chilly. I am still in the house.

Dec 27     We are at home today. Maw and I still have the grippe. This is a very chilly day. George and Emma are here.

Dec 28      I, this day, joined the Endowment Order at N. Vernon with Lot? Randolph and Otto White are here. I paid my first installment, which is $6.00. The day is chilly and cool. We are not over the grippe yet.

Dec 29     I am not doing anything. The weather is damp. Maw and I are both still with the grippe. The boys are choreing some.

Jan 13     We are helping George Euler to butcher his hogs. He is sick at this time. Not able to be up but is better. It is right cold today and about 3-4 inches of snow on the ground.

Jan 14     Edy and I went to N. Vernon to market. Went on the sled, it is right good sleighing today. The snow is 4-5 inches deep and it is right cold.

Jan 15     This is the coldest morning this winter. It froze hard last night and it is good sleighing at this time. We are not doing much.

Jan 16     We went to church but Mon did not come. He is in the Protracted Meeting at one of his churches. George Euler is better.

Jan 17     No church today. There is right nice sleighing yet but the snow is melting off some.

Jan 18     We went to N. Vernon this morning to market. We went on the sled. The snow is melting off. It is not as good as it has been.

Jan 19     We went down to John James' today on the sled. It is good sleighing at this time. There was a big snow fell last night and it right cold this morning.

Jan 20     This is the coldest morning this winter and the snow is 7 or 8 inches deep and good sleighing.

Jan 21     We are at home but not doing much. The weather is some cold.

Jan 22     Edy and I hauled in some hay out of stack from over the creek. It is some warmer.

Jan 23     We hauled up a load of hay to Lawrence today. When we came home we was told that Mr. Marsh had died.

Jan 24     We went up to Mr. John Hedges today. We went on the sled up there. The sleighing is about gone. They did not bury Mr. Marsh until Tuesday at 11 o'clock.

Jan 25     We hauled some clover hay from across the creek. Then John Hedges and I went over to Jim Marsh's awhile. Mr. Marsh will be buried tomorrow at 11 o'clock.

Jan 26     We went to the funeral of E. P. Marsh this morning at 11 o'clock. This is right cold morning.

Jan 27     We took up a load of clover hay to N. Vernon to Joe Coverett at $8 per ton.

Jan 28     We are not doing much this forenoon. This afternoon we hauled over a load of clover hay out of stack. The weather is some cold and some snow on yet.

Jan 29     We, Edy and I, took up a load of hay to N. Vernon to Joe Pickett, got $8 a ton. The roads are good for hauling at this time.

Jan 30     We took up a load of hay to N. Vernon to Joe Campbell, got $8.00 a ton. The day is right chilly. The roads are right good.

Feb 1     Edy and I are burning up some brush down on the Liew farm next to Tull's barn. This is a nice day.

Feb 2     We are choreing some today. The ground is thawing out fast. It rained last night and the creek is up. The ice went out today.

Feb 3     We went to N. Vernon and to old Vernon to mill and paid interest on land to Mrs. Vigom?. On note on the Liew farm and $91 on the principal.

Feb 5     We are choreing some. The ground is muddy and full of water. Froze some last night.

Feb 21     I went to church, Joe, Edy and I. We are all that is at home.

Feb 22     I and Edy are sawing stove wood.

Feb 23     The same today. We are still keeping house alone, Maw has not come home.

Feb 24     I and Joe went up to N. Vernon this morning to bring home Maw and Pammy. They came home today from there visit from Nabb.

Feb 26     I went to N. Vernon to the Farmer's Institute. Today is cool, the ground has dried off and the roads are right good.

Feb 28     This is a rainy day and don't rain very much but drizzles. Tull had his horse killed today that had his leg broke.

Mar 1     We are choreing some. Edy is finishing the stove wood and I went over to Soloman Green and got 1 ½ bu of clover seed.

Mar 2     I commenced to trim apple trees some today. Edy is ricking up stove wood in the woods.

Mar 4     We went down on the Liew farm to fix a levy. This is a nice day and warm.

Mar 7     I went to Vernon to mill. Took corn to get crushed for the cattle. It rained a little this evening.

Mar 9     We, Edy and I, took up a load of wheat to N. Vernon, then went down to old Vernon on the case of Harrison Spencer's for cutting wheat on Sunday but they dismissed the case and I came home.

Mar 10     Edy is gone to N. Vernon with a load of wheat. This is the 3rd load he has hauled this week. This has been a very stormy day, all day. Snow and blow and cold.

Mar 11     I sowed clover seed this forenoon. The ground is froze and very little snow on and right cool. Edy took up a load of wheat this afternoon again. This is the 4th load at this hauling.

Mar 12     I went to N. Vernon and took up another load of wheat and I finished sowing the clover seed on the wheat today.

Mar 13     We are at home all day. The day is cool.

Mar 14     I went down to Fielding Lett's today on business. The day is right cool. The roads are getting good.

Mar 15     We are choreing some. The day is right cool. It froze right hard last night.

Mar 16     I and Edy went to N. Vernon and took up some chickens and potatoes and sold them.. Then went to old Vernon and paid the taxes on land.

Mar 21     Lux's pressing hay. Went down in the bottom this morning. I took up a load of hay in bail to Joe Cammel today, this morning. This evening I hauled in bailed hay to shed.

Mar 22     I took up a load of bailed hay to Gagen. When I got home it was raining. They got done pressing at noon and went on.

Mar 23     We are repairing fence. The ground is wet.

Mar 24     We are repairing fence on the Liew farm along the roadside on the hill and hauled some posts along on the line fence by Tull Sullivan's for a wire fence.

Mar 25     I took up the last load of wheat and sold it to P.C. McGannon for .83. Wheat is a little down.

Mar 26     I went to the sale at Jim Marsh's. The day is right nice and warm.

Apr 2     We are choreing some this forenoon. Taking out some potatoes out of the hole. Then went to N. Vernon this afternoon. It rained hard last night and the creek is up some.

Apr 3     We are at home. Tull Sullivan and folks are here today. It rained hard tonight.

Apr 4     The creek is high today. The highest it has been since the fore part of winter. We are choreing some. It is very wet.

Apr 5     I went out to buy some cattle and I got 6 head off F. R. Gannon at 2 year olds.

Apr 6     I went to Vernon mill with a load of corn to get ground for the cattle. This is a very nice day.

Apr 7     I am hauling out some manure on the corn field and on the garden.

Apr 8     We went over the creek at the lower ford to plow for corn on the clover sod where the clover fell down. We had to use the sulky plow on this piece.

Apr 9     The same today as on yesterday. The day is very cool and chilly. The ground is only fit to work.

Apr 10     We went up to Tull Sullivan's today. W. Moore? Is out to see about the building of the house.

Apr 11     We was this morning at the lower ford breaking stalks on the little piece. Then went to plowing it at 10 o'clock. We got it most done. Weather cool.

Apr 12     We finished up the plowing over the creek most at noon. Edy and Joe broke stalks on the Long bottom and burned the rest of the day.

Apr 13     We are breaking up our potato patch and planted the most. Tull Sullivan got hurt this morning.

Apr 14     This is a damp day with a little rain falling. Edy was plowing some in the orchard this afternoon. It rains some.

Apr 15     Same as on yesterday morning. Daisy mare had her first living colt. Edy finished plowing the orchard.

Apr 16     We plowed the garden and planted the rest of our potato patch. Went to church, there is entertainment at the church tonight.

Apr 17     We went to church. This is a very nice day but tonight it set in to rain and we had the largest rain we have had for months. Apr 18     We are not doing much, it is very wet this morning and the creek is rising fast and it raised on till 5 o'clock then began to fall. It was the highest by one foot it has been for over 1 year.

Apr 19     I went to Vernon and took up load of corn to get ground for the cattle. Got it done and brought home a new drill, a double drill to plant corn. Got it at Wagoner's, cost $29.75.

Apr 20     This morning it is raining very hard and a very hard cold rain. The creek got up about as high as it was on Monday.

Apr 21     We are choreing some. It is very wet.

Apr 22     We are choreing some. We took our young cattle down on the thicket pasture for the first time and put out the hogs on the old field pasture. This afternoon took out stumps out of the Long bottom.

Apr 23     We are choreing some. We hauled some manure out and some gravel at the lane at the roadside.

Apr 24     We are at home and Jim Marsh and folks are here and Sebe and Lis and Mrs. Ewing.

Apr 25     We hauled in a stack of hay off of the bottom to feed on . The ground is too wet to break yet.

Apr 26     We are planting potatoes in the orchard and some Minnesota corn this forenoon. This afternoon went to plow on the Long bottom and took off most of the stalks. It is plenty wet.

Apr 27     The same at the plowing on Long bottom and we hauled out some manure on same today.

Apr 28     This morning it set in to rain and it rained a big rain and is too wet to plow for some time.

Apr 29     I went to old Vernon with a load of corn to grind for the cattle. Got it and brought it home. Too wet to plow.

Apr 30     We are hauling out manure, Joe and I. Edy is plowng on lower end of Long bottom. It is a plenty wet.

May 1     We are at home today. The day is very nice.

May 2     We are not doing very much. It set in to rain this morning and it rained all , most of the day.

May 3     We are taking out stumps out of the bottom ground out of the way of the plow. Wet time.

May 4     We are working on the road at the ford till noon. Then hauled manure out in the bottom.

May 5     We are plowing with two teams on Long bottom. Plenty wet.

May 6     I went to John Butler's on Daisy mare, then went to N. Vernon, then to George Trapp's this evening.

May 7     We are at work on the Long bottom this morning with both teams. We are most done. Joe and I are finishing planting the orchard to corn this evening.

May 8     We are at home. This is a very nice day.

May 9     We finished plowing on the Long bottom this morning. Then went to taking off stalks off of the Betsy bottom. Did not get it done till another heavy rain came on and stopped us.

May 10     This is another rainy day. We have not planted any corn yet. It is a very wet time. Not half done plowing yet. We peeled some willows today.

May 11     Willows along the creek peeled on the Long bottom. We went to Vernon mill with a load of corn to grind for cattle.

May 12     We are hauling out manure on the bottom corn field. Very wet, too wet to do most anything on the farm.

May 13     We are choreing some this forenoon. It rains some and is wet. No one can plant, it is so wet at this time.

May 14     We are choreing some. Edy went to the barn raising at Fisher's. This is a very wet time, not much corn planted. We have not planted any yet in the fields.

May 15     We are at home. This is a rite nice day. Rain some this morning then cleared off and was nice the rest of the day. Not much corn planted yet anywhere over the country…so wet.

May 16     We chored some this forenoon. This afternoon we started to plow with one team on the Betsy bottom for the first on this piece of plowing and it is wet.

May 17     We took off our cattle to Lovett this forenoon, 1 bull and 4 steers. Sold to Carson. This afternoon we commenced to plant corn. Got one round done on the Long bottom and then the rain came on and stopped us. This is the first planted.

May 18     I went up to Vernon today and paid Mrs. Vigom? $200 on the principal on farm. There is yet due to her $800. This is a very wet time. Too wet to do any work. Rain most all day.

May 19     We are choreing some. It rains some and is very wet time.

May 20     The same today, wet with rain.

May 21     I went to N. Vernon to see James Carson. He paid me the rest of what was coming on the cattle I sold him. Some more rain today. No corn planted this week.

May 22     Went to church today. Very nice day. The ground is wet yet, too wet to work.

May 23     We commenced to plant this evening at 4 o'clock on the Long bottom. It is plenty wet yet.

May 24     We finished planting the Long bottom a little after noon. Joe and I went to the lower ford to harrow on the field.

May 25     We went over the creek at he lower ford to cultivate up the weeds so as to clear the ground for planting. We have it about ready to plant but it rains hard this evening.

May 26     Nothing done at plowing, too wet.

May 27     Plowed this afternoon but wet.

May 28     We planted the piece over the creek at the lower ford this forenoon. This afternoon we commenced to plant on the Betsy bottom. Got all done but 28 rows. Rain tonight.

May 29     We are at home, the day is mostly cloudy. Big rain last night.

May 30     We finished planting the Betsy bottom this morning. Then went over the creek at Jerries' to break up for corn. The day is nice but a little wet. Cut some willows down on the banks.

May 31     Planted the biggest piece of it today. Cut more willows. Jun 1     We are at work at he garden and plowing the potatoes this forenoon. This afternoon broke on the 15 acre field for the first till most night when a big rain came on. We got a few sweet potatoes out and the rain came fast and stopped the work.

Jun 2     Too wet to do very much. We are choreing some. Big rain on yesterday evening.

Jun 3     I went to Vernon and took up the mowing machine to get repaired. This is a wet time. Cannot do anything at the corn planting.

Jun 4     We are only choreing. It is too wet to do much, the ground is very wet.

Jun 6     We are helping Lawrence plow for corn. It is plenty wet. Ours is too wet yet.

Jun 11     We are at the same, plowing and harrowing and planting. Got all done but about 1/2 acre for this year. The rest of the field I let Mr. Euler have to tend to corn.

Jun 12     We are at home. This is a warm day.

Jun 13     We finished the few rows of corn planting this morning, all done. We then went to plowing corn. The weather is warm.

Jun 14     We are over the creek at the lower ford plowing corn.

Jun 15     I went to Vernon and got my mowing machine this morning. Then cut clover this afternoon. The weather is warm.

Jun 18     We are at the corn today and we are over only once and the late piece not at all.

Jun 20      We are cutting out some weeds out of the corn. The ground is too wet to plow. I went to N. Vernon this afternoon to get twine to bind wheat. The wheat will due to cut in 2 more days.

Jun 21     We are plowing corn and I trimmed the first hedge for this year. Very warm.

Jun 22     We are plowing corn and we cut the first wheat this forenoon. This afternoon we put up the rest of our clover hay in stack.

Jun 23     We cut wheat all day. This is a very warm day.

Jun 25     Moved over the creek at Woodward's and cut wheat. The day is not so hot.

Jun 28     I took out twelve head of hogs to Lovett to Moren, got 4.40 a hundred. We finished our wheat cutting today. The day is nice and cool.

Jun 29     I and Taylor Sullivan are trimming hedge and the boys are plowing corn. Very nice day.

Jun 30     We are trimming hedge and Taylor Sullivan is helping. We got it done, first time this spring.

Aug 6     We went to the Old Settlers Meeting at Paris. We got a very nice rain last night and it is a very nice day today.

Dec 1     I and Maw went to N. Vernon this morning. Got home at noon then we gathered corn on Long bottom. Most done with corn gathering.

Dec 2     We gathered on the Long bottom this forenoon and got it all done but 8 or 10 bus. Then we went over the creek at Jerries' on this piece this afternoon and got 3 loads for the first on this piece. Billy Boner is helping us today.

Dec 3     We gathered corn over the creek at Jerries and got it all done but two loads yet. This is all on the stalk.

Dec 4     We are at home today and George Euler and Emma are here. This is a very pretty day.

Dec 5     We are shucking corn in the shock this forenoon. This afternoon we finished all of our stalk corn. We have about 175 shocks out yet to shuck.

Dec 6     We shucked corn out of shock. It was a fine day for work in shock. It is damp and warm but the ground is some wet.

Dec 7     We are at shock corn today. It is very nice this forenoon. This afternoon the wind blows.

Dec 8     We are at shock corn. This is a cool day and the fodder is dry.

Dec 9     We butchered a beef this morning. WE are not at the corn today. It is too dry to handle.

Dec 10     We cut down the old sycamores on the Betsy bottom and burned some of them today. It is right cool.

Dec 11     We are at home all day. The day is nice.

Dec 12     We took up a load of corn to George Verberg, .40 /bu.

Dec 13     We took off 13 hogs to Lovett to Mornan at 5.25 per hundred. It has been a raining some by spells today.

Dec 14     Edy and I shucked corn out of the shock and hauled in some fodder this afternoon. The ground is very soft at this time.

Dec 15     Edy and I shucked on the shock all day and set the fodder over the pile of corn. It is nice and damp to shuck but the ground is soft. We are most done, only 70 shocks in all. 22 of them are over the creek at lower ford.

Dec 16     Edy is shucking on shock. I took up a load of corn to Smith out the other side of the Creamery, got .40 per bu.

Dec 17     We shucked some corn out of the shock this morning awhile, then we quit and Edy and Joe went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to Verberg, .40 per bu and Maw and I went to church. It is open damp muddy weather at this time.

Dec 18     We went to church. The day is nice but muddy.

Dec 19     We hauled in fodder and corn and we shucked some.

Dec 20     We finished shucking corn on shock at home piece. Then we hauled in the corn and fodder, most are all the fodder. The ground is froze.

Dec 21     We brought in the last load of fodder this morning out of the 15 acre field. Then went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is froze right hard this morning.

Dec 22     We are not doing much this forenoon. This afternoon we sawed up the old sycamores, ready to log. It is right cold today. The ground is froze.

Dec 23     We are rolling the old sycamore logs together in heaps to burn. It is some cold today and snowy some most of the day.

Dec 24     We went to old Vernon to make the deeds on the trade of land between Liew Lattimore and myself and also a road way through my piece.

Dec 25     We are at home. It is right cold today. The ice bears up on the creek.

Dec 26     We are rolling some logs on the Betsy bottom and mending up the heaps on the old sycamores we cut down a few days ago. This is the coldest day this winter. Right cold and a little snow on the ground.

Dec 27     We are choreing some this forenoon. This afternoon we went down on the lower farm to saw stove wood on the thicket.

Dec 28     The same today as on yesterday. Cut some stove wood on the loer thicket and hauled it home.

Dec 29     Getting wood on bottom again today.

Dec 30     Getting wood. Cold like but pleasant for work.

Dec 31     This is quite a stormy day for the last day of the year. It rained some and snowed some all day long. We went over the creek at the lower ford to shuck corn out of shock but it rained so we came home again and it kept on all day to rain and snow.
