Jan 1     We are at home today. I am not well at all. I am in bed most of the day.

Jan 2     I am choreing some, not very busy. The day is nice.

Jan 3     I went to N. Vernon to mill today. It is a nice day. The ground is froze yet. It thaws a little today.

Jan 4     I and Edy went to N. Vernon with both wagons and got two loads of tile, 6".

Jan 5     I went to N. Vernon and got one bundle more of 6" to make up for what we broke on yesterday. Thaws fast today. The ground is muddy. There was a concert at our church tonight. Dark and muddy.

Jan 6     We went over to Mr. Ewing's. Mrs. Ewing is sick. She is better today. We was at Sebe's too. This is a rainy like day and muddy.

Jan 7     We are choreing some today. Rainy dark and muddy.

Jan 8     We are at home. The ground is froze some today but not very cold.

Jan 9     I am not doing much today. The weather is some cold.

Jan 10     The same today. I sowed some salt on the wheat to try what it will do.

Jan 11     I went to old Vernon and took back a saw I had got off Ame Thomas. Then went up to N. Vernon.

Jan 12     This is another bad or a part of the day it snowed some and sleeted.

Jan 13     The day is better. I am not doing very much. Lawrence is splitting stove wood.

Jan 14     Edy and Lawrence are splitting some stove wood. It is pleasant. We went to church tonight again. It rained then snowed and froze hard.

Jan 15     We went to church today. The ground is covered with snow and froze hard enough to bear up and right cold and icy. Brother Randolph came home with us last night and today. Then went home from here.

Jan 16     The weather is quite cold and the snow is still froze to the ground. The boys can run on their skates.

Jan 17     Last night there was some more snow sleet fell and it is as slick as ever. Solid and smooth, only about 1 1/2" deep.

Jan 18     We butchered today. It is tolerable cold and the snow on froze, sleek and hard.

Jan 19     I am not doing very much. It is still cold and the snow is on yet as slick as ever so they can run over with skates on.

Jan 20     I went to Vernon today with the sled. It is right good sleighing. I got timothy seed at Ame Thomas', 10 gallon of molasses, 200 lbs of sugar.

Jan 21     We are not doing very much today. It is slick and bad to get around. Looks like more snow.

Jan 22     We are at home. It is right cold. The snow is still froze on tight. No church today.

Jan 23     We are not doing much. The weather is cold and very slick to get around. Fred Hefs (Hess?) took off his hogs today to N. Vernon to D. Roseberry.

Jan 24     The same right cold and slick. Not doing very much.

Jan 25     It is a little warmer today and thaws some but tonight it turned colder.

Jan 26     We are hauling out some manure on the wheat on the sled. It is very slick.

Jan 27     The same, hauling out manure on sled. Don't thaw only a little. Skating every night.

Jan 28     I went to N. Vernon and got a load of 4" tile. It is right cold yet. The ground is froze hard. We went to church tonight.

Jan 29     We went to church today. It is a good deal warmer and the snow is melting off fast this afternoon.

Jan 30     Went to N. Vernon and got a load of tile today. The roads are right icy yet.

Jan 31     We are choreing around today. The ice and snow is till melting off slowly every day.

Feb 1     Went to N. Vernon with two wagons and got two loads of tile. The snow is mostly off now. Mostly cloudy all day.

Feb 2     This is another cloudy day. The sun shown out a little this afternoon. Fred Heps and folks are here this afternoon.

Feb 3     I am not doing very much. Lawrence went to town this forenoon.

Feb 4     We are at work cleaning out the stables. It is a rainy day and thaws. The snow is about all gone.

Feb 5     We are at home today. Mr. Marsh is here today. Quite muddy but not thawed out.

Feb 6     I sowed grass seed today for the first this year. It froze hard last night. Thawed today.

Feb 7     I sowed some more grass seed.

Feb 8     I went to town to N. Vernon. I got some timothy seed and a seed sower.

Feb 9     It snowed tonight and today. It is right cold. Tull and folks are here. John James and folks went to town then stopped in.

Feb 10     I sowed grass seed a part of the day with the new sower. The snow is on.

Feb 11     We hauled some rails on the Schetgen place today. Went to church.

Feb 12     Went to church today. The ground is frozen. Some ice on the creek.

Feb 13     We are choreing around today at one thing or another. Hauled over the clover stack of hay from over the creek.

Feb 14     We are choreing around some sowing some grass seed and some other tinkering things. It freezes hard at nights and thaws daylight.

Feb 15     Went to N. Vernon and took up a small load of hay to Ben Chuchfield, 1100.55 at .50 per hundred, $5.75.

Feb 16     I sowed grass seed this forenoon. It thaws every day and freezes at night.

Feb 17     We broke some stubs of stalks on the wheat. They do not break well this morning.

Feb 18     The ground is froze some this morning but today it thaws fast. It is quite warm. The frost has not been out of the ground since first froze.

Feb 19     We are at home today, all day. It rains most of the day and the frost is most out of the ground and is very muddy today.

Feb 20     We are choreing around today.

Feb 21     We went to N. Vernon. Took up some potatoes got one dollar a bu.

Feb 22     I finished sowing grass seed today. The ground freezes at night and thaws in daytime.

Feb 23     Went to the frolic at Lew Lattimore. She is getting some wood cut to burn.

Feb 24     I helped to load a load of hay for Andy Simon this morning. It began to rain so he did not haul any more today.

Feb 25     It rained very hard last night and stormed today. We are choreing. Church tonight but we did not get over, the creek is high.

Feb 26     We went to church today. It is quite cold. The roads are rough with some little snow on the ground. This is the last trip for our preacher on his last year, Brother Randolph.

Feb 27     This is a cold day. The wind blows hard and is cold. We are not doing much. The folks have all gone up to Fred Hess' tonight but I.

Feb 28     The weather cool, we are not doing much.

Feb 29     We are hauling some rails today from a side of the hedge fence, up at the house to enlarge our potato patch. The ground is froze.

Mar 1     The same today, it thaws and is muddy and cloudy and rained a little this forenoon. Our school is out today.

Mar 2     The boys are at work at the stove wood most done the wood.

Mar 3     I went up to the sale at John Curck?. It is a cool chilly day and some mud.

Mar 4     We are at home today. This is a chilly cold day.

Mar 5     We, Joe and I , went to N. Vernon to mill and got the oil can of oil of coal. 5 gallons today.

Mar 6     We were breaking stalks on the long bottom this forenoon. Got it done this afternoon. Went over to Euler's and got my boots fixed.

Mar 7     We are not doing very much. The weather is not very nice.

Mar 8     We are working at the tile ditch, digging.

Mar 9     We layed in the second 4" tile up to Spencer's and my line fence today.

Mar 10     This is a rainy forenoon. This afternoon does not rain much. We are choreing.

Mar 11     We are at home today, all day. It is quite chilly day.

Mar 12     We was this afternoon, cutting down some trees on the lower end of the logn bottom.

Mar 13     Went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is a chilly day. The weather has been right cold for 2 or 3 days past.

Mar 14     Went to N. Vernon to market.

Mar 15     I am sowing some grass seed on Mrs. Schetgen's land this morning.

Mar 16     We went over the creek at the church and put in the tile at the wet corner to drain it.

Mar 17     I am trimming some apple trees today.

Mar 18     We are at home. This is a very pretty day and warm for the season.

Mar 19     We sowed some oats today ont eh long bottom for the first this year. Rain tonight.

Mar 20     We are hauling some rails and repairing fence today. The ground is right wet.

Mar 21     This is a cool morning. We went to Billy Bonner's and got some vinegar. Then hauled some gravel to fill at the hog pen.

Mar 22     This is another cold day. We are choreing around. We butchered a hog today. It froze hard tonight.

Mar 23     We hauled out some manure on the garden. The ground is froze. We hauled in the stack of have over the creek.

Mar 24     This is a very stormy day with rain, sleep and snow a falling. Monroe Swarthout's wife is buried today. Church today. The first trip for Brother McCoy today on his year. Church on tomorrow again.

Mar 25     This morning looks very much like winter. The snow or rather sleet is on the ground and trees froze fast. Now at 9 or 10 o'clock, it still rains and sleets yet but it is a thawing some.

Mar 26 - Mar 31

Apr 1     We went up to Mr. John Hedges' today. It is a very pretty day and warm.

Apr 2     Went to Hardenburg to the election. Came home and eat our dinner. We got a dispatch from Kokomo that Dell Gannon was dead. He died today.

Apr 3     I sowed the clover on the long bottom wheat today. Edy is plowing the potato patch this forenoon. This afternoon we planted the first this year.

Apr 4     We are plowing the orchard for oats, got it sowed today to oats and clover, a part of it. Then quit to plow on the Schetgen place next.

Apr 5     Edy is plowing on the Schetgen place for oats today for the first on this place. I went to Larbies' to a sale but it was put off as there was not many there.

Apr 6     We, Edy and I, are both plowing for oats on the Schetgen farm. This is a nice day, a little cool. Lawrence got home from Kokomo from the funeral of Dell Gannon tonight.

Apr 7     We sowed the oats on Schetgen place today and I sowed the wheat field by the barn to clover.

Apr 8     We are, part of us, at home. The rest went over to the church to organize a Sunday School. The day is nice. Old Mrs. Schetgen is here.

Apr 9     Went to N. Vernon and to old Vernon and paid the tax. Took up Mrs. Schetgen to town. Rained most of the day.

Apr 10     The ground is wet. We are at the tile today. I went up to John Hedges' and bought a bull calf off him for $50.

Apr 11     We are trimming some apple trees and burning up the brush this forenoon. This afternoon we finished sowing oats for this year.

Apr 12     We planted some more potatoes and Edy is plowing some on the old Sullivan bottom below Uncle Moses sod where we just put in tile.

Apr 13     The same today as on yesterday. We planted some more potatoes. Sowed some clover seed on wheat.

Apr 14     The same, got done the sod on bottom. Got all done planting potatoes. Finished sowing clover seed today on old field, all done.

Apr 15     We are at home today. The day is very pleasant.

Apr 16     We commenced to break and rake stalks today for the first time.

Apr 17     The same today.

Apr 18     Edy went over the creek at the lower ford to plow for corn for the first. Lawrence went to help drive away the beef cattle to N. Vernon.

Apr 19     I and Joe are breaking some stalks on the old bottom. We quit and brought Fan home.

Apr 20     We are still at the plowing over the creek.

Apr 21     I went down to the Four Corners to hunt for a road scraper. Did not get one. Commenced to work the two colts to the plow this afternoon for the first time.

Apr 22     Went to Sunday School today for the first this season. The weather is cool.

Apr 23     We are at work plowing over the creek at the lower ford and got it done at noon. This afternoon plowed in long bottom.

Apr 24     We took off our hogs to Law's scales today. I sold the hogs to William Coner for 4.90 per hundred, thereby 5 head average weight, 190 lbs a piece come to three hundred 27.07.

Apr 25     We are still plowing for corn. The weather is cool. Frost at night and it is tolerably dry.

Apr 26     The same today. The weather cool, too cool for grass or anything to grow. Needs rain very bad.

Apr 27     I and Lawrence went to N. Vernon today. Took up a load of wheat. Got a new sulky breaking plow to try. The day is warmer than it has been for a long time.

Apr 28     I went down to Fielding Lets' today for the first this year. Quite warm today. No corn of any account planted yet. Weather dry.

Apr 29     At church today. McCoy is here today and yesterday. Weather nice. Apr 30     It rained some this morning, a small rain. It is needed very much. I planted the early patch of corn today for roasting ears. This is the first this year. May 1     We are at work at the breaking up for corn. It is a cloudy day.

May 2     We commenced to plant corn over the creek at the lower ford. The weather is right dry but it is cool.

May 3     I finished this over the creek a little before night, then commenced on the lower end of long bottom.

May 4     We planted, Edy and I, till noon then there was a shower of rain. Then Edy went to break up on the old Sullivan bottom and I finished the long bottom alone.

May 5     This forenoon we are breaking a small piece on the new bottom before Euler's house where the willows was grubbed out and Lawrence is harrowing it ready to plant on Monday.

May 6     We are at home today except the most of us went to Sunday School. The weather is dry like. We need rain very much.

May 7     We planted the lower end of the old mill bottom today. We got a nice shower at noon today.

May 8     Lawrence is harrowing the sod on the old Sullivan bottom this forenoon and Edy is finishing plowing the lower end of this field. This afternoon we commenced to plant it.

May 9     We finished the planting of the lower end of this field afternoon today. Another nice rain on yesterday noon.

May 10     We are planting corn on the old Sullivan bottom but won't get it done today. It is above the ditch.

May 11     I went to Lets' today, Joe and I went. The boys went over to plow by Jerries' for the first this year. The day is warm.

May 12     I went to N. Vernon to mill this forenoon. This afternoon we planted corn on the old Sullivan bottom and got it done.

May 13     We are at home. Jim Marsh and folks are here. The weather is very nice but dry.

May 14     We went over the creek at Jerries and planted the corn this forenoon. This afternoon we are breaking on the clover on the mill bottom.

May 15     The same today at the breaking.

May 16     We are at work at breaking for corn on the clover piece. We are most done. We allow to plant tomorrow. This is the last piece to plant.

May 17     We are planting corn today and got all done for this year. There was a nice rain fell last night.

May 18     We are hauling out some manure and choreing around. It is some rainy this morning and this evening it is raining more.

May 19     We went over the creek at the lower ford. We were hauling out some old hay manure and commenced to break up for wheat on the upper end of the meadow. Cool weather at this time, too cool for corn.

May 20     We are at home today. The weather is cool and dry. We only get small showers this spring and very cool, too cool for corn to grow.

May 21     The boys are over the creek plowing the sod up. I went to Vernon to court to make a report as guardian.

May 22     We are plowing today again, part of the day with 3 teams. The ground is getting dry.

May 23     We are grubbing out some willows along the creek on the long bottom this forenoon. This afternoon we are making a levy at the bank of Indian Creek.

May 24     I went to N. Vernon this morning to take up Mother and F.H. Gannon to the train. Mother is going to Hugh's to stay awhile.

May 25     Cut the willows over the creek bank by Jerrie's. Nice rain last night. Went to the funeral of Charley Gon (Gahn/Gannon?) wife. Then plowed some this evening. Got insured today for $2,000 for five years in the fenix(Phoenix?) com.

May 26     Church today. We are breaking up for wheat over the creek on sod. Got all of the willows cut along the creek bank today.

May 27     Went to church today. This is a nice day.

May 28     We went over the creek to plow. It rained this morning. Tis a growing time at this time, nice showers. Set out the sweet potato plants today.

May 29     The boys are breaking yet at the sod. Most done. Get done tomorrow. A little to wet to plow corn.

May 30     We commenced to plow corn over the creek at the lower ford today for the first this year. The ground is in nice order.

May 31     We are at the same today at the corn. This afternoon Joe and I went to Let's.

Jun 1     Still at work at the corn. Weather nice and pleasant since our rains.

Jun 2     At work at the corn this forenoon. This afternoon Lawrence went to Let's. Edy and Joe went to Short's mill.

Jun 3     We are at home, the most of us. Some went to Sunday School. The day is very nice.

Jun 4     We are planting over a piece of corn on the old bottom that was in grass. It did not come up good. Then we went to plow corn.

Jun 5     We are at the corn plowing. The weather is some dry this spring.

Jun 6     We are at the corn plowing today and we have got over all of our corn once.

Jun 7     Went to N. Vernon to mill and to the shorthorn cattle sale on the fair ground. I bought one cow at the sale. Also bought a selfbinder off Tripp Brothers for $135.00. The weather dry.

Jun 8     We went over the creek at the lower ford this afternoon to plow corn, the second time. Quite dry, need rain.

Jun 9     We are at the corn every day. The weather dry.

Jun 10     We are at home, the most of the day.

Jun 11     We are at the corn today. The weather dry.

Jun 12     The same today.

Jun 13     the same today and the weather dry.

Jun 14     The same today and weather dry yet.

Jun 15     We, Eddy went to N. Vernon this forenoon to get the self binder. It had not come. We got home at noon. After dinner it came a big rain. It was needed.

Jun 16     We went over the creek at the lower ford to harrow on the sod. We have broke for wheat but it is most too dry. There was not much rain over there but a good rain at home here.

Jun 17     We are at home all day.

Jun 18     We are at work at the corn.

Jun 19     I went to N. Vernon and brought home a new binder. Got it off Tripps.

Jun 20     We are at work in the corn today again. The weather is warm.

Jun 21     The same today as on yesterday, at the corn. Weather warm.

Jun 22     The same as on yesterday. Tripp came out this evening and set up a part of the binder.

Jun 23     We finished setting up the machine at noon, then this afternoon went over to Fred Heps wheat to try the machine. It worked very well.

Jun 24     Went to church today, very pleasant.

Jun 25     I and Lawrence went to N. Vernon. It rained last night and this morning. It rained more nice rains this afternoon. We cut wheat for Fred.

Jun 26     We cut wheat for Fred and got it done at 9 o'clock. Then went to cutting our own wheat the rest of the day.

Jun 27     We cut a little wheat. It rained so we did not cut much today.

Jun 28     The same today. It rained and we did not cut much wheat.

Jun 29     We cut wheat today. It is a very nice day. We cut a good deal today.

Jun 30     We are at work at the wheat and got it all done today for this year.

Jul 1     We went out to Tea Creek Church today to hear Brother Thompson preach. This is a very warm day.

Jul 2     Lawrence is cutting Tull Sullivan's wheat. Got it all done. Edy and I are at work in the corn.

Jul 3     We are all at work at the corn. Weather warm.

Jul 4     The same, at the corn plowing.

Jul 5     I went to old Vernon to mill, then went home by N. Vernon. Worked in the corn this evening.

Jul 6     We are at the corn plowing. The weather is very warm.

Jul 7     Still the same, at the corn work. The weather is very warm.

Jul 8     We went to John James' today to a birthday dinner. Rain this evening.

Jul 9     We are not doing very much. It is rainy today. It rains by showers all day. Lawrence is trimming some hedge today.

Jul 10     We are mowing down some weeds. It is very wet this morning from the rain on yesterday. Henry Pettifoot Pettifordcut oats on the strip on the long bottom. This afternoon we bound it up.

Jul 11     Henry and Lawrence are cutting oats in the orchard little near noon. Then we opened some wheat shocks to dry to commence this afternoon. We commenced to haul in wheat this afternoon.

Jul 12     We hauled in wheat all day with two teams and Henry and Will is helping.

Jul 13     The same today. Hauling with three teams and Mr. Euler and Fred Hefs are helping. Got all done the wheat but 3 small loads.

Jul 14     We are binding some oats in the orchard this morning then we got it done and went and finished hauling in the wheat. Very nice day.

Jul 15     We are at home, some went to Sunday School. The day is very nice.

Jul 16     We finished cutting our oats and got them in shock today. Very nice day.

Jul 17     We went over to help Jerry to thrash wheat this morning. The engine got out of fix. Edy commenced to mow for the first.

Jul 18     I went to N. Vernon and got a half bushel of clover seed and this afternoon sowed it in the corn on the last plowing.

Jul 19     We are at work in the corn cutting out weeds. Pettifoots (Pettiford's)are helping this forenoon and I am harrowing over the creek at the lower ford this forenoon. This afternoon the boys went over to help Jerry to finish thrashing wheat and Henry Pettifoot (Pettiford)put up hay.

Jul 20     Lawrence and I went to help Thompson Childs and Boner thrash this forenoon. This afternoon we put up hay.

Jul 21     We put up hay this afternoon. We are most done with our hay. Weather very nice.

Jul 22     We are at home. The weather nice.

Jul 23     We mowed and put up hay. We are most done. Very nice hay weather.

Jul 24     We got all done with our hay and oats all in today. All done.

Jul 25     We took up a load of corn to N. Vernon. Dull sale for corn, it is down to .50. Wheat is worth from 70 to 75 cents.

Jul 26     Took up two loads of wheat to mill this forenoon, .75 per bushel. This afternoon helped Mike and Simons to thrash.

Jul 27     We went down to help John James and Jyles(Giles?) Spalden (Spalding) to thrash, got done at noon.

Jul 28     Edy and I took up a load of corn and a load of wheat to town this morning. Corn to Wrape, wheat to mill.

Jul 29     Went to church. The church was in the woods today.

Jul 30     Went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to Joe Campbell at .50 per bushel.

Jul 31     We are hauling out some manure out on the wheat ground. The weather is very warm.

Aug 1     The same today as on yesterday and got it about out. Weather warm.

Aug 2     We are over the creek at the lower ford harrowing some on the sod for wheat. The ground is getting quite dry and it is very warm.

Aug 3     The same and we broke some of it and cultivated some of it. Very warm and dry. Need rain for corn.

Aug 4     We got this piece done for the present at noon today.

Aug 5     We went over to Sebe Ewing's today. The creek is up some right smart. There has been rain on the head of the creek but none here. It is very dry.

Aug 6     We went out to plow for wheat this forenoon but it is too dry. We were trying our sulky plow on the stubble and it did not work well.

Aug 7     We are over the creek harrowing some. The ground is very dry, needs rain.

Aug 8     I went to Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon cut down some weeds.

Aug 9     Went to the Fair at N. Vernon.

Aug 10     I went over the creek and harrowed this forenoon. This afternoon went to the funeral of Aunt Ellen Spencer.

Aug 11     I and Edy were hauling up wood to thrash with this forenoon. This afternoon went out to Short's mill to get some corn ground.

Aug 12     We are at home today. the weather is still dry yet.

Aug 13     I and Billy Boner went out to the Poor Farm this forenoon. The boys are plowing for wheat. It is very dry.

Note:     Poor Farm-which is maintained at their expense for the care of the poor and unfortunate who are without homes, and by reason of age and decrepitude, or incurable mental aberration, unable to provide for themselves.

Aug 14     We are trying to plow some but we plow a little and cut some weeds.

Aug 15     Lawrence is trimming hedge today.

Aug 16     We went up to help Norman Gannon to thrash. Big rain this evening. Mistake: we are at home at work. Edy and I are hauling up some stove wood and Lawrence is trimming hedge.

Aug 17     Today we went to help Norman Gannon to thrash. It rained. This evening we got a big rain. We needed it very much.

Aug 18     We got another rain this morning. It raised Indian (Creek) very high. It washed out the levy on Hess' and the water was on the corn below.

Aug 19     We are at home today. The day is right nice. The rain wet the ground. Is wet right nice.

Aug 20     The boys went to plow this forenoon. This afternoon Lawrence and I went to help Thompson Childs' to thrash and Edy went to help Sebe Ewing to thrash. Big rain all night tonight.

Aug 21     This morning it is raining hard. We allowed to finish them thrashing but it rains and the creek is getting high. The boys went up to Thompson's to help finish the oats. They got it done.

Aug 22     This afternoon we went up to help Mr. Euler to thrash and haul wheat to Vernon. The creek is right well up. Got the job all done and moved down home.

Aug 23     We are helping Mr. Euler to thrash at home this forenoon. Got it done at noon. I went to Vernon and got sacks to put wheat in tomorrow. We allow to thrash. Wheat is worth .75.

Aug 24     We are thrashing today. We did not get done. We thrashed 795 today of wheat. All done, the wheat but one.

Aug 25     We are finishing thrashing this morning at ten o'clock, wheat and oats all done. Number of bushels of wheat, 936. Number bushels of oats, 209. The machine went up to Fred Hess and thrashed his out, the I took up a load of wheat.

Aug 26     We went to church. They had it in the woods. Maoy? was there and Alan Hill too was there. It is raining right hard now at 5 o'clock.

Aug 27     Edy and I took up two loads of wheat to Vernon mill to Gaff. The creek is high, too high to crop. We went by the way of N. Vernon.

Aug 28     We took two more loads this morning. The two last loads that I had sold him. Sold and hauled to him, 224 bu at .75 per bu. $168.00

Aug 29     We went to the Association at Marion Church today. The boys are helping Jim Marsh to thrash today. This is a very nice day. Old Mr. Marvin died today.

Aug 30     Edy and I went up to help Morten Rendt's? to thrash this forenoon. He got done at ten o'clock. We came home and I went to the funeral of Delaney Marvin at Hardenburg. Rain this evening.

Aug 31     It is some rainy this morning till ten o'clock. Then it cleared off. I went to N. Vernon this afternoon to mill. The boys are plowing for wheat.

Sep 1     The boys are finishing plowing the 15 acre wheat stubble this forenoon. This afternoon we made cider. The ground is quite wet.

Sep 2     We are at home today. Jim Marsh and wife are here today. the day is very nice.

Sep 3     We are plowing out on the old field. We commenced to plow out there today for the first.

Sep 5     We are plowing for wheat out in the old sink hole field. This is the third crop to put in the clover and timothy has failed to come on account of dry weather.

Sep 6     The same today and I am harrowing today and the boys are plowing.

Sep 7     We are plowing and harrowing out on the old sink hold field. We have it most done. The weather is nice.

Sep 8     We went to the Harvest Home at Hardenburg. It looked rainy this morning but it cleared off and it was a nice day.

Sep 10     We are all done breaking for wheat. We got done all today.

Sep 11     I took up a load of corn to Vernon today to Goff. He paid .50 a bushel. The boys went over the creek at the lower ford to cut corn for the first this year.


Sep 12     We went over the creek at lower ford and harrowed wheat ground so we could sow tomorrow. The ground is plenty wet in places on lower end.

Sep 26     We got the wheat all done over the creek at noon. Still at work at drilling wheat on the 15 acre field.

Sep 27     Got the field done at noon today. I took up a load of corn to Joe Camel.

Sep 28     We are making cider and picking winter apple today.

Sep 29     I went to N. Vernon and took up the last load of old corn, then came home and gathered the first load of new corn this year. Went over to Harrison's to get the drill but did not get it till Tuesday. First big frost.

Oct 1     We are at home today hauling out some manure and the old field where we allow to sow wheat on it tomorrow. We are waiting for Jim Marsh's drill. We will get it tomorrow.

Oct 2     We commenced to drill in wheat this morning and drilled all day on the old sink hole field. Joe horse like to have run away with the drill this evening. He got the smell of the dust we was drilling.

Oct 3     We are at the same today. Drilling wheat but did not get it quite done. Lawrence took up a load of new corn to N. Vernon for the first this year. Price .30 per bu.

Oct 4     We finished drilling our wheat on the old field this morning at 8 o'clock. This is all done for the year. No. of bus sown this year is 67. Edy and I went and gathered corn to feed.

Oct 5     Lawrence is hauling from Camel's mill. We are all hauling lumber from Camel's mill.

Oct 6     We finished picking winter apples this forenoon. This afternoon I went to N. Vernon to mill and to get the last load of lumber for the tool house.

Oct 7     We are at home today. It is a very pretty day.

Oct 8     Lawrence is hauling gravel on the road.

Oct 9     We are digging potatoes. The weather is nice. Thomas Mcamern? Came here this evening from Kansas. He is visiting his old friends.

Oct 10     We are not doing anything this forenoon. Mcamern is here till noon then I took him up to Thompson Childs.

Oct 11     We finished digging our potatoes this forenoon. This afternoon we are hauling rock for our tool house. Rain tonight.

Oct 12     This is a rainy day most of the day. It drizzles rain most of the day. We are not doing much.

Oct 13     I and Maw went to old Vernon to have a deed made for Liew Lattimore's farm. I got a deed today from her and paid her $500 down on it. The farm costs $2500.

Oct 14     We are at home today. The day is nice. Oct 15     We are hauling off wheat to the mill at N. Vernon. We got 100 bu. Wheat took a sudden raise from .75 to 1.00. Oct 16

Oct 17     We took up two loads more wheat today. This is all that they will pay a dollar for. There mill is full so they will only pay .95. Lewis Long began to frame the shed today.

Oct 18     It is rainy weather. Long and Everhart are at work at the shed. We are gathering some corn to feed on.

Oct 19     Wet and showers. WE are helping on the shed. We raised it this afternoon.

Oct 20     We are working at the shed with the carpenters. They got on all the siding and a good part of the sheeting.

Oct 21     We are at home today. The weather had been wet. This is a very nice day, a little muddy under foot.

Oct 22     This is another rainy day today. The carpenters are not here at work.

Oct 23     It rains some today. The carpenters came at noon and began to roof this evening, some of it. Rained a little this evening.

Oct 24     The men roofed today and got it most done. Supposed that Charley Woodard is married today to Alley Childs.

Oct 25     We went over the creek at the lower ford to gather corn. The carpenters got the roof on at noon, then made the doors.

Oct 26     It is raining some today. The carpenters got done with my shed at 2 o'clock then went home. We put in our tools in shed.

Oct 27     I went to Vernon and paid my tax. Then came by N. Vernon and Florence Gannon came home with us.

Oct 28     Went to church. The day is very nice.

Oct 29     I went to N. Vernon and took up a hog to Stinger to butcher. The boys are gathering corn.

Oct 30     The boys are gathering corn this forenoon. This afternoon we are covering over the tile with the plow on the meadow. Then we butchered a hog.

Oct 31     The boys are gathering corn. The corn is quite damp yet. George Ochs is helping today. This is the first day work.

Nov 1     Gathering corn and Joe and I commenced to plow some on Liew this afternoon. Weather nice and warm.

Nov 2     Joe and I plowed till noon and the boys were gathering corn. This afternoon it set in to rain and it rained all evening and a part of the night.

Nov 3     Went to N. Vernon, took home Florence Gannon and took up 20 bu of wheat, got .95 per bu. The creek is high this morning out on low bottoms over a part of corn that is down.

Nov 12     We are shucking corn out of shock this forenoon. This afternoon went over the creek at lower ford and shucked some out of shock.

Nov 13     We are trying to gather corn but the ground is so soft, we hardly can get out of the field. The wet weather and the creek has damaged the corn a good deal.

Nov 14     At the same today and Henry Pettifoot and his boy Will, is helping. I went down to Leets' this afternoon.

Nov 16     Only got two loads out this forenoon. Then it began to snow. The first snow this fall. It melted as it fell. Went up to Hedges' and brought home the little bull I had bought off him.

May 1     We planted the little bottom at the lower ford this forenoon. This afternoon on Liew farm. Still dry yet.

May 2     Finished planting on L. today and planted some on the long bottom. Still dry.

May 3     We finished the long bottom, then commenced to the old end of the Betsy bottom. Very dry.

May 4     We are at work at planting on this bottom. Did not get it done.

May 6     The boys are at planting corn on the Betsy bottom, next to the creek till 1 o'clock when we got word that Mother was dead. I was there all last night till 4 o'clock. She died a little after 7 o'clock.

May 7     We went to the funeral of our Mother today. Very dry weather.

May 8     The boys finished planting the rest of the Betsy bottom. This is all till there comes rain. It is very dry.

May 9     We are at work at clearing off a fence row on the Liew farm to put up a wire fence. No rain yet.

Sep 4     I harrowed. Edy and I went to N. Vernon to the show. Lawrence finished breaking on wheat ground.

Sep 5     I went to old Vernon to mill and took 20 bu of wheat and sold all but 4. Price of wheat, .70. Rain today.

Sep 6     We are trimming some hedge this forenoon. The ground is in nice order to work. Edy and Joe went across the creek to harrow.

Sep 7     Harrowing across the creek and got over once tonight.

Sep 8     We are at home. Edy went with Fred Hess this evening after peaches on the river.

Sep 9     Joe and I are harrowing over the creek. Edy got home tonight.

Sep 10     We are harrowing some more this forenoon. This afternoon hauling out some manure.

Sep 11     The same at manure on wheat. Lawrence went after a load of bone dust.

Sep 27     I went to old Vernon and brought out the plaster to patch up the church house.

Sep 28     Lawrence is drilling in wheat on the Liew farm on the lower side.

Sep 29     We went over to Jim Marsh's. Rain tonight.

Sep 30     The boys are hauling gravel on the road. I went out to Short's mill to pay for shingles.

Oct 1     We cut corn on corner by Euler's on old bottom. Got all done.

Oct 2     We finished sowing wheat for this year. Number acres, 57.

Oct 3     We are at work on the road, plowing a ditch over by John James.

Oct 4     Lawrence is trimming hedge. Edy is picking winter apples.

Oct 10     I went to Vernon this afternoon. Lawrence was married this evening.

Oct 11     I and Edy are hauling corn to N. Vernon to the feed store. Corn is only worth .35.

Oct 12     We hauled up 3 loads of corn to N. Vernon mill, .85. One load of potatoes at .30.

Oct 13     We are at home. This is a very dark day and rained a very little. Mr. And Mrs. Euler and folks are here today.

Oct 14     We are cutting some more corn this morning.

Oct 15     This morning we cut some corn and got done. All we allow to cut. Gathered some to feed.

Oct 16     We hauled some rails from across the creek and made a lot to faten the hogs.

Dec 8     We went to the funeral at Mrs. McQuade's at N. Vernon.

Dec 9     Took off the hogs and cattle to N. Vernon. 28 head of hogs and 5 head of cattle. Carson ships them.

Dec 10     Rainy day and not much done.

Dec 11     The creek is high this morning and still raining. The highest since last June.

Dec 12     Went to N. Vernon. The roads are muddy. I got my money for my hogs and cattle off Carson.

Dec 13     We finished all of our corn for this year today. The water got on 38 of these last shocks on Liew farm and spoiled the fodder.

Dec 14     We are repairing some fence on the old Sullivan bottom so we can pasture.

Dec 15     We are at home today.

Dec 16     We, Edy and I, took up a load of turnips to N. Vernon to sell. Sold about .25 and .30 per bus.

Dec 17     The same as on yesterday and sold all we took at .25 per bu.

Dec 18     We hauled a load of lumber from Hess' (?) saw mill for fencing.

Dec 19     Edy and I took up two loads of wheat to Vernon to Goff and got .73.

Dec 20     We are hauling wheat to old Vernon to Goff mill at .73 per bu. The weather is warm and wet.

Dec 21     Still at the wheat hauling. The dirt road is very muddy. So much rain lately.

Dec 22     We are at home a part of us. The rest went over to church in the canoe. The creek is past ford.

Dec 23     We took up three loads of wheat to Vernon mill.

Dec 24     The same today. Three more loads. The roads are muddy.

Dec 25     We are at home choreing some. The day is very warm.

Dec 26     We took up three more loads of wheat. We bring but a load of tile home.

Dec 27     We are hauling wheat yet today to old Vernon. This has been a very nice day. Only.73 a bu.

Dec 28     We hauled wheat to Vernon and got done. Hauled 736 bu to Goff mill.

Dec 29     We are at home. It is a very nice day and very warm.

Dec 30     I hauled up some wood. Very nice weather.

Dec 31     I am choreing some. The weather is nice. It is cooler today than it has been. Froze some last night.
