Jan 1     This is a stormy day and cold. I am not at work.

Jan 2     Not doing much. The weather is very rough.

Jan 3     I am not doing much today. The weather is cold and the wind blows hard and the ground is froze hard.

Jan 4     I went to town today. It has snowed all day long and is very cold and tonight it froze hard.

Jan 5     This is one of the coldest mornings that there has been for 3 years. The day is very cold.

Jan 6     This is a very cold day, all day. It froze hard. The snow is about 8 inches deep.

Jan 7     This morning is not quite so cold and it snows some. Tonight it snowed about 2 inches.

Jan 8     I am not doing much. It is cold weather. Protracted Meeting commenced last night. I went tonight to church.

Jan 9     I went to church, Maw and I today. I went tonight. Good sleighing.

Jan 10     We went to church this morning. This afternoon went to N. Vernon. Tonight went to church. The snow is softening today.

Jan 11     We went to church today in the sled. The sleighing is most spoiled.

Jan 12     I and Edy went to the Tunnel's mill and to Vernon and N. Vernon with the sled. The sleighing is not very good in places. Our meeting is still going on yet but none today but tonight again.

Jan 13     We all, or rather a part of us, went to church. It is thawing fast today. The sleighing is most spoiled.

Jan 14     We are shucking corn out of the shock at the lower ford piece. We have 115 shocks out there and the back water has been around them and today we got two loads. The shocks are froze fast some and is bad.

Jan 15     We went to church today again. There was another snow fell last night and today. A sled runs very well. We went also tonight.

Jan 16     We went to church. It has gotten colder. This morning is quite cold and good sleighing.

Jan 17     We went to church today and tonight too. Still sleighing yet.

Jan 18     We went to church today. It is the last of the Protracted in day. Tonight again is the last.

Jan 19     We went over the creek at the lower ford and got a load of corn out of the shock. It is quite cold and the snow lays on yet some.

Jan 20     We went up to Tull Sullivan's. It is very good sleighing this morning. It snowed some last night and froze some and is right cold.

Jan 21     We are all at home. It is a very cold morning and a cold day all day. Splendid sleighing.

Jan 22     We went to H. R. Gannon's today and to church tonight at Hardenburg. Tonight it thawed some and thawed off the snow off the roads. It is much warmer.

Jan 23     I am not doing much. It is drizzling and rains some and this evening it set in to snow and tonight it has snowed a nice snow to sleigh on. Plenty of snow this winter.

Jan 24     I am not doing anything but doing the chores. It is right cold and good sleighing at this time.

Jan 25     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market. We went in the sled. It is good sleighing and it is cold. This morning it is 24 degrees below zero.

Jan 26     We went to church today and we elected J. Spillman to preach another year. The 4 Saturday and Sundays in March is the first month of the year to commence.

Jan 27     Went to church today. Fitzgerald and wife were baptized today. There is good sleighing and thick ice on the creek.

Jan 28     I went over the creek at the lower ford and shucked some corn and brought home a sled load. The snow is melting fast today.

Jan 29     We all are over the creek shucking corn. Edy went to school and came back and said the school house burned down last night.

Jan 30     The snow went off fast today and tonight. The ice went out, it gorged somewhere below and thawed the water and ice out below on the bottoms.

Jan 31     Hugh and Mother are here today. I was down at the creek this morning. It is full banks yet. The ice is scattered over the low bottoms.

Feb 1     I am not doing very much. It is thawing and muddy. It freezes at night and thaws in daytime. The snow is all off, only now and then a spot.

Feb 2     The weather is bad. Sam Spencer bought Edy's heifer off him and Edy went to help to drive her to town.

Feb 3     We are at home today. It is very muddy.

Feb 4     We went up to cut wood and it set in to rain and it rained all day. Tonight the rest of the folks went up to Giles today. Edy and I went after them. Indian Creek is high.

Feb 5     This morning the creek is high and rising. Rain today again and tonight.

Feb 6     The creek is about as high this morning as last night and has kept full all day. It rains some today.

Feb 7     We went to N. Vernon today, Emma and Lawrence and I. The Ohio River is very high again.

Feb 8     We are sawing firewood on the down timber. It is very soft and very muddy. The frost is most out.

Feb 9     I went to Hardenburg today and went from there to Reeve's sale and bought a horse at the sale for $87, due Mar 9.

Feb 10     We are at home today all day. It is very wet and muddy time. The Ohio River is very high and still rising. Great destruction of property on the rivers.

ENTER FLOOD DATA HERE Feb 11     We are cutting some wood to burn. The weather is cloudy and wet and very muddy. Very high water in the rivers and still rising along the Ohio River. It is seeping off property.

Feb 12     We are still at work at the wood but it still rains some every day and dark and cloudy and very muddy. The river is still on the rise yet.

Feb 13     I went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is very muddy and wet and it rains by showers all day long. Very dark day. The Ohio River at Cincinnati is 69 1/2ft this morning and still rising.

Feb 14     We are cutting wood to burn. The weather is cool. It freezes at night and thaws in daytime. The river is still high and rising.

Feb 15     We are cutting some wood to burn. The weather is cool and chilly. The river is up to the height of 72ft, 9 inches but it now this evening begins to fall some. It will take several days before it runs down.

Feb 16     Lawrence and Dick are cutting wood. Edy and I are hauling in a stack of hay to the barn. It froze some last night. The river is still falling now.

Feb 17     We are at home today, all day. It rained most all forenoon and is warmer than it has been for a few days. Sam Spencer came here last night and is here today.

Feb 18     We are at work at getting wood to burn.

Feb 19     We are still at work at the wood. It rained hard this evening. Tull Sullivan and folks stayed here last night.

Feb 20     We are still at work at wood cutting. Some of the roads are very wet and muddy.

Feb 21     The ground is very wet and muddy to get around. We are still at work at the wood some.

Feb 22     We are still at the wood a part of the time. The weather is not very cold. It freezes at night and thaws in daytime.

Feb 23     Went to church today. This is the last month of the year.

Feb 24     Went to church today. Spillman came here tonight and I paid him all of his money that had been paid in to myself.

Feb 25     We are at work at the wood. It is snowing some this morning.

Feb 26     We are still at the cutting.

Feb 27     We are still cutting wood a part of the time.

Feb 28     I went up to Thompson Childs' to get some buckwheat off him. It is stormy day and snows and blows.

Feb 29     This is another stormy day and snows some and cold.

Mar 1     I went to old Vernon and N. Vernon. This is a cold day and story and snows all day.

Mar 2     I went over to prayer meeting today. This is a cold time and snow on the ground about 2 inches deep.

Mar 3     We are choreing around cutting wood some of the time. The weather is very bad cold and stormy.

Mar 4     We are at work at the wood some. The weather is cold and the ground is froze and some snow on.

Mar 5     We are at work at the wood some of the time. It is chilly weather. Snows some, sleets some.

Mar 6     Went to N. Vernon to market today. The roads are frozen to bear. It thaws some today but it is chilly.

Mar 7     We are at home at work at the wood. It is very chilly weather and snow on and froze to bear up. John Layman got one stack of hay today and hauled away, at $6 per ton.

Mar 8     This is a very stormy morning. It has sleeted all night last and the most of the day today. We went up to Marion Spencer's to the funeral today. He was not buried till tomorrow.

Mar 9     We are at home today, all day. This is a very cool day. Sleet and snow on the ground. Very dark weather and cold. Elmer Spencer is to be buried today.

Mar 10     We are still at the wood most of the time. The ground is froze some and it is chilly.

Mar 11     The same today as on yesterday. This is a very chilly cool time. The ground is froze some. I went up to the Tunnel mill and got the buckwheat flour that I got off T. Childs.

Mar 12     I went to N. Vernon today. The boys are cutting wood. It is some warmer at this time.

Mar 13     We are at work at the wood. I counted the ricks we had cut, 24 of cook stove wood, 10 of heating wood, 4 of 16 inch wood.

Mar 14     I am a choreing around trimming some small apple trees and grapevines. The boys are cutting wood. It has moderated and is very pleasant.

Mar 15     I am choreing around some. The boys are at work at the wood. The day is very pleasant and warm. The first warm day we have had this year.

Mar 16     I and Emma went to Prayer Meeting today. This is a very pretty day. The roads are drying off fast.

Mar 17     We went over the creek at the lower ford to shuck out some shock corn. It is a kind of rainy day. It rains some by spells all day.

Mar 18     We are choreing around some. It is wet and muddy.

Mar 19     The same today as on yesterday.

Mar 20     We are repairing some fence today. The ground is some wet but the weather is warm.

Mar 21     We went over the creek at the lower ford and finished the shock corn. The weather is warm.

Mar 22     We went over the creek at the lower ford and repaired some fence then we brought home a load of fodder. This afternoon went to church. This is the first sermon of the new year.

Mar 23     We went to church today. The weather is very nice and warm. It is some muddy.

Mar 24     We are choreing around some. Sam Spencer is here marking some calves and a hog. We weaned old Nell colt today.

Mar 25     We are hauling up some stove wood today. It is very pleasant weather. It is some muddy yet.

Mar 26     Lawrence went this morning to haul load of lumber for John James. We repaired fence this afternoon on the old board fence along the road. Nice weather.

Mar 27     We repaired fence till noon. This afternoon we went over the creek at the lower ford to put on the tops of the hay stacks the wind blew off on the day before yesterday.

Mar 28     We began to plow for oats today for the first. The weather is nice at this time and the ground is drying off fast.

Mar 29     We sowed the oats and clover seed today over the creek at the loer ford piece. The wind blows hard all day. I came home and sowed the young orchard to clover.

Mar 30     We went over to Prayer Meeting. The weather is very nice. The ground is drying off fast. It is a little cool today but very pretty day.

Mar 31     I went down to the Widow Reeve's this morning and goat a load of lumber that I bought at the sale. This evening sowed some more oats on the field on new and where the cane grew.

Apr 1     We are choreing some. It rained some.

Apr 2     We went to N. Vernon to market. It is a chilly day.

Apr 3     I went out to Lovett and to Carson's to see about a hog and to get some lumber for the yard fence.

Apr 4     I went and got the hog and lumber today. Very pretty day.

Apr 5     I am fixing a stalk rake to rake stalks with and the boys are hauling wood up.

Apr 6     We went to church to Prayer Meeting today. It is a very pretty day.

Apr 7     We went to the Burg to the election.

Apr 8     We are choreing around. Very stormy day. It snows and blows all day.

Apr 9     We went to N. Vernon with a load of wheat. Then went down to old Vernon and paid the taxes, $47.61

Apr 10     We are making a fence around the house.

Apr 11     We are hauling out some manure and we plowed the garden today and planted some potatoes.

Apr 12     We are choreing around. It is a rainy day.

Apr 13     We went up to Mother's today.

Apr 14     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market.

Apr 15     We are repairing fence and choreing.

Apr 16     We hauled out some manure and repaired fence some. Very cool weather at this time.

Apr 17     We hauled up some stove wood this forenoon. This afternoon we plowed some for corn.

Apr 18     We were plowing some more this forenoon. This afternoon we went to N. Vernon, Maw and I, to get some medicine from Dr. Green. Damp weather.

Apr 19     The boys are plowing for corn today. It is damp weather. We cannot get our stalks off, it is so damp.

Apr 20     I went to Prayer Meeting today. Maw is not well enough. Damp, it rained this morning.

Apr 21     We are working down on the Sullivan bottoms draining off some water. It is quite cool today and the wind blows hard. The ground is wet.

Apr 22     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market. Took in twenty bus of wheat, got $1 per bu.

Apr 23     We went over the creek by Jerrie's to repair fence. It is a wet time.

Apr 24     We are at the same today, repairing the fence. We got it done.

Apr 25     We are over the creek again opening a ditch to drain off the water above the bottom. Got it done. Hedge men was here to reset plants today. Paid $50.

Apr 26     We are plowing this forenoon on the new and old bottom. It is plenty wet yet. I went to church this afternoon then after church I raked stalks for the first.

Apr 27     We went to church today. It is a nice day and warm. It rained this morning. The Sunday School organized this morning.

Apr 28     We are plowing on the lease land this forenoon. This afternoon we are breaking stalks and raking and burning them.

Apr 29     We are still at the plowing. We planted the last of our potatoes this morning. The weather is nice.

Apr 30     We are plowing for corn on the lease land. It is nice weather.

May 1     We are still at work at plowing. The assessor came around today. The amount of personal property $9,000.

May 2     We went over the creek at the lower ford to plow the little new ground this afternoon. Delancy Marvin's wife was buried today.

May 3     We are plowing for corn. It rained some yesterday and it is plenty wet to plow. We have but one team today. Fan had her colt last night.

May 4     We are at home. It is a rainy morning. It rained hard last night and the creek is raising fast. The ground is full of water.

May 5     Went to mill and market. The creek is past ford.

May 6     The weather is wet. It rains today again. The people cannot plow or plant, it is so wet.

May 7     We are choreing around fixing some fence and other notions.

May 8     This forenoon we are choreing and this is a wet time but we went to plow on the lower end of the sandy bottom this afternoon. I went to the Burg.

May 9     We are plowing today and repairing some fence on the lease land. It is a very pretty day today and dries off fast.

May 10     I went down to Helding Leets(?)Fielding Letts today. I took Fan, mare down. Her colt is one week old today. There is but very little corn planted yet. I have not planted any at all.

May 11     We are at home today. H. R. Gannon and Jane, Sebe, Mother and Hugh are here today. We have not planted any corn yet.

May 12     We commenced to plant corn today for the first this year.

May 13     We finished over the creek at the lower ford. Then we commenced on the lease land till noon. This afternoon it rained, we did not plant, it is too wet.

May 14     This morning it is wet. We are plowing on the new bottom till noon. This afternoon we are finishing planting the lower end of the lease land.

May 15     We are harrowing on the upper end of the lease land. We are planting it this afternoon. The day is very nice.

May 16     We are planting the old end of the new and old bottom, the old part down to the trees. The ground is in good order today.

May 17     We are plowing on the new part of the new and old bottom this forenoon. This afternoon we are finishing taking off the stalks. It is nice weather now but it is cool.

May 18     It rains some this morning. I went up to Vernon and got Maw some medicine.

May 19     We started to plow this morning and the rain came on and we quit. It rained one of the biggest rains we had lately.

May 20     The ground is very wet. We cannot do anything at plowing.

May 21     We went to plow this afternoon but it is wet enough but it is drying off fast. The people cannot do anything at planting.

May 22     We got done on our new ground and finished planting today.

May 23     We went over the creek by Jerrie's today. Break up the little piece. The ground is plenty wet yet.

May 24     We harrowed and planted the piece this side of the byo? This forenoon. This afternoon went to church and after church finished planting the rest of the church.

May 25     Went to church this morning, then this afternoon.

May 26     We are a weighing out some hay for Sebe Ewing this morning. Afternoon we commenced to break up for corn on the wet bottom below Spencer's…it is wet.

May 27     We are breaking up the Sullivan old bottom. It is plenty wet.

May 28     We are at the same today. The weather is cool but it is drying off fast at this time.

May 29     We are harrowing and planting the piece we have got broke on the old bottom this forenoon. This afternoon I am plowing the hedge rows. Edy went to Leets.

May 30     We commenced to plow and harrow corn today for the first this year. The weather is cool and is nice but too cool for corn. Lawrence went to plow for Sebe today.

May 31     We are harrowing corn over the creek at the lower ford till noon. The boys are on the lease land this afternoon. I went to N. Vernon to mill and market.

Jun 1     We went to church this morning and Sunday School this afternoon.

Jun 2     We are at work at breaking up the old Sullivan bottom of wild grass. We got it all broke today. This is all of the corn ground.

Jun 3      We are harrowing corn today and this afternoon. I harrowed on the wild grass sod.

Jun 4     The same today. It is a nice time to work corn where it is big enough to work. There is still people after seed to plant over corn every day.

Jun 5     We commenced to plow some corn for the first after harrowing on the lease land. The ground is in nice order to plow.

Jun 6     Nice rain this morning and this forenoon a part of the time. We went to plowing corn this afternoon. It is in very good order.

Jun 7     Edy and I are replanting corn on the new ground next to Euler's. It did not come up thick enough. This afternoon we planted the rest of the corn on the old wet bottom. All done.

Jun 8     We are at home today, all day long. Mr. And Mrs. Ewing are here this afternoon. It rained about 2 or 3 hours and we did not, any of us, go to Sunday School.

Jun 9     We are at work at plowing corn.

Jun 10     The same a part of the day. It rained some and it is a dark time.

Jun 11     We are at work at the corn on old and new bottom. This is the second time.

Jun 12     The boys are at work at the corn on the new bottom once over, next to the creek, 2 above on the new and old. Maw and I went to town of Vernon this forenoon.

Jun 13     We went over the creek at Jerrie's to harrow corn, the first time. Got it once over.

Jun 14     We are at work replanting corn on the old Sullivan bottom, where the blackbirds took it up. It is cool and cloudy weather.

Jun 15     We went to Sunday School.

Jun 16     We are at work at the corn at the lower ford over the creek on the little new bottom.

Jun 17     The same today at the corn on the lease land bottom.

Jun 18     The same at corn plowing. I sold my hogs today to Trap Murphy, 2 head at $4.65 hundred.

Jun 19     I took off my hogs to the scales and weighed them this morning, whole amount of weight, 62.92 at 4.65 per hundred.

Jun 20     I went to N. Vernon this morning and paid off Miller Brothers, all on the house. This afternoon helped Euler to haul clover hay. Very warm.

Jun 21     We are at work in the corn plowing and hoeing. Sam and Canfield is helping today. It is very warm. The boys are plowing.

Jun 22     We are at home today. The children went to Sunday School. Dry warm weather.

Jun 23     We are hoeing corn today. I have four hands helping to hoe. The weather is warm and dry.

Jun 24     We hoed corn till four o'clock when we then made a commencement to cut wheat.

Jun 25     This forenoon we are working in the corn. Huck Hartwell is hoeing. Sam and I and the boys are plowing. This afternoon we went to the wheat.

Jun 26     We cut wheat today, all day. The weather is cool but dry here. There has been rain around close but none right here.

Jun 27     This morning we went across the creek at the lower ford to cut wheat. We got it done a little afternoon. Then we came back and went to cut at home.

Jun 28     We are at work at the wheat till noon. Then we quit and wet to church. The weather is dry right here.

Jun 29     We went to church today. It is very dry at this time. Rain is needed very much at this time.

Jun 30     We finished cutting wheat at noon today. This afternoon cut wheat for Fred Hefs (Hess?).

Jul 1     We are plowing corn today. We had a nice shower this forenoon.

Jul 2     We are plowing corn over the creek at Jerrie's. It is very warm.

Jul 3     This morning we had a nice rain. We plowed some corn afternoon. Then about 4 o'clock the rain came on again. Very nice rain.

Jul 4     We went to N. Vernon today. It is a right nice day. It is not so hot. There was a big rain last night again and the ground is wet. There is a little wheat out about.

Jul 5     Another big rain last night and the ground is too wet to do anything. The creek is deep ford today. I went over to the Burg this afternoon, the rest went to the graveyard.

Jul 6     We commenced to haul in our wheat today. The wheat is dry enough. Mistake: went to Sunday School today.

Jul 7     We are at the wheat hauling today again and we got nearly done. Three loads out yet.

Jul 8     We are hauling in wheat and got most done. All but three loads out yet.

Jul 9     We went to plowing corn on the lease land a laying it by. The ground is in nice order to plow since the rain.

Jul 10     Still at work at the corn. Edy and I are plowing corn. Lawrence went to help Euler to haul in wheat today.

Jul 11     We are at work in the lease land plowing and Sam, Huck and Lawrence are taking off some suckers and weeds till noon. This afternoon Sam and Lawrence hauled in the rest of the wheat.

Jul 12     We all went over the creek at Jerrie's to plow and hoe out weeds till noon. Then we quit and cut oats for the first time. It is ripe enough.

Jul 13     We are at home today. Part of the folks went to Sunday School.

Jul 14     We are working in the corn. Lawrence is over the creek finishing up the corn. We got it laid by at noon. Cut grass this afternoon.

Jul 15     We are at work at the corn till noon. This afternoon we put up hay for the first time and we bound some oats up and shock.

Jul 16     We are at work at the hay. It is a very nice day.

Jul 17     We put up hay, we got up a lot. We got one field most done. We got our oats all bound and shocked.

Jul 18     We are not doing very much this forenoon. It rained this morning and made it too wet for hay. We went to town this evening.

Jul 19     We hauled in our oats today and stacked them and hauled in 3 loads of hay.

Jul 20     We are at home today. The weather is very nice.

Jul 21     We are hauling our oats and stacking them and some hay. We finished up our first meadow this evening.

Jul 22     We went to work to cut grass on the piece next to Euler's. This afternoon we put up some in stack.

Jul 23     We are at work at the hay. It is a very nice day for hay.

Jul 24     We are over the creek at work at the hay till about 2 o'clock when the rain stopped us. We then went to work at he corn hoeing till night.

Jul 25     This morning is some rainy and wet. We are hoeing out the ret of the corn, then sowed some turnip seed. This afternoon we put up the hay over the creek.

Jul 26     We went to Paris to the Old Settler's Meeting. It was a very nice day. It rained just as we got home but not very much. (Note: Old Settler's Meetings were held to hear and record early pioneers' stories.)

Jul 27     We went to church today. They held the church in the woods. Raven's preached. Jim Spillman is sick.

Jul 28     We went to cutting hay today.

Jul 29     We are cutting some weeds down. This evening the rain came on and it is too wet to work at the hay.

Jul 30     We are not at the hay. It is wet and cloudy. We are mowing down some weeds today.

Jul 31     We are at work at the hay till just a little before night. It rained again and stopped us. We are most done.

Aug 1     We are at work at the hay. I has been a very good hay day. We finished cutting this evening and we will have to put it up tomorrow.

Aug 2     We finished our hay today. This has been a very good day for hay.

Aug 3     We are at home today, all day.

Aug 4     We are mowing down some weeds today in the orchard.

Aug 5     We commenced to haul out manure out on the wheat ground next to the creek.

Aug 6     We are at work at the manure today and Fred Hejs (Hess?) is helping this afternoon. Brother Spillman was buried today.

Aug 7     We went to the Fair today. It is a nice day for the Fair.

Aug 8     The same today, at the Fair.

Aug 9     We are helping Mr. Euler to thrash his wheat.

Aug 10     We are at home today, all day. The weather is very nice and pleasant but it is getting dry.

Aug 11     We are helping to haul out some manure. We scraped up. We do expect to have the machine in a day or two. We helped Otis to thrash.

Aug 12     Today we hauled out the manure.

Aug 13     Today Fred Hefs is thrashing and we are helping till 2 o'clock when it came here and we went to thrashing about 3 o'clock.

Aug 14     WE are thrashing today and got done at 3 o'clock. Number of bus of wheat, 310. Oats, 114.

Aug 15     We are helping Harrison Spencer to thrash wheat today. It is very warm and getting dry at this time.

Aug 16     We are helping Tull Sullivan to thrash, then Mike Simons got all done. The day has been very warm. The weather dry.

Aug 17     We went over to Marsh's today. It is a very warm day and the ground is very dry. The corn needs rain very bad at this time.

Aug 18     We went to town to N. Vernon and old Vernon.

Aug 19     I went over to Hardenburg to get the hack fixed, the tire set and the axel mended and two tires on the wagon set. Then went to Reeves and got the rest of my lumber.

Aug 20     I went over the creek at the lower ford and Jack Kendrick met me there and sold him all the hay, old and new for $170. It is a very dry time.

Aug 21     Maw and Pammie (Bess) started to Michigan this morning. It is very dry.

Aug 22     We are choreing around some, cutting some weeds down. Nice rain last night.

Aug 23     We, this forenoon, commenced to break up the low old Sullivan bottom where we planted corn to plant timothy. This afternoon went to church.

Aug 24     We went to church this morning. Spears preached. Went this afternoon again. West preached. Maw is at Michigan at Charly's. (NOTE: Charley Gibbs)

Aug 25     We are plowing on the old Sullivan bottom. Plowing a piece of weeds for timothy. Dry et, the little rain is about gone.

Aug 26     Lawrence is plowing on the oats stubble next to the potatoes. I am opening a ditch below Uncle Moses to let out water. Edy is this afternoon, harrowing the piece we plowed.

Aug 27     We got a letter from Maw and we sent one to her this morning.

Aug 28     We are cutting some weeds this forenoon. This afternoon we are opening some ditches on the old bottom. Dry weather yet.

Aug 29     We got done with the ditch on the old bottom at noon today. Then we went over the creek at Jerrie's to fix the ditch and cut off the willows.

Aug 30     This forenoon we are hauling out some cobs and manure on the wheat land. This afternoon I am hauling manure alone, Edy and Lawrence are digging potatoes.

Aug 31     I am at home. The children went to Sunday School. Maw is in Michigan.

Sep 1     We are digging potatoes today. It is still dry weather yet.

Sep 2     We finished digging our potatoes this forenoon. This afternoon we went to N. Vernon. Maw came home from Michigan this evening.

Sep 3     We went out to Cominsky to the Association today. It is still dry weather yet.

Sep 4     We all of us, went to N. Vernon to the Ohio Settler's Reunion Meeting today. It is warm and dry.

Sep 5     We are at home at work at the plowing along the creek bank. Fixing a levy to try to keep the water in its channel.

Sep 6     Today we went to Hardenburg to the Harvest Home. The weather is warm and very dry.

Sep 7     We are at home. Myself, the children went to Sunday School.

Sep 8     We are at work at the levy at the creek on the old field.

Sep 9     The same today as on yesterday. The weather still continues dry and very warm.

Sep 10     The same this morning. This afternoon went over to the old mill to move some rock across to the side. It is very warm.

Sep 11     We are hauling some gravel up to the lane by the cribs. I, this afternoon, am gathering in some seed corn and hanging it up.

Sep 12     I and Lawrence went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is still very dry yet.

Sep 13     Lawrence is hauling gravel on the highway road. I am laying up some more seed corn for seed.

Sep 14     I am at home, the rest went to Sunday School and singing after church or Sunday School. Very dry yet.

Sep 15     We are cutting off corn. The corn is well fit to cut. The weather is dry.

Sep 16     The same today, at the corn. There was some rain fell this morning but it is not enough to wet much.

Sep 17     We cut some more corn.

Sep 18     We sowed the timothy on the old bottom today.

Sep 19     We sowed the first wheat this year. Today it is a pleasant day.

Sep 20     We finished our patch of wheat at noon on the cornfield and potato patch. The boys are gathering the first load of corn for feed over the creek at the lower ford. Bought Hugh hogs, $66. Bushels of wheat 4.

Sep 21     We went up to Mother's today. They have sold out this last week.

Sep 22     I am at work on the roads shoveling over towards the Steele place. It is a very nice day but the weather is still dry yet but it threatens rain.

Sep 23     This morning there was a good rain fell but it did not wet the ground enough yet. We are this afternoon hauling rock and gravel at the ford at the creek.

Sep 24     This morning it is raining some. We went down to try to plow. It is not wet enough yet but it still rains yet at 10 o'clock. This is the first time we began to plow the field.

Sep 25     We are at the plowing and it is in nice order at this time.

Sep 26     The same today. The ground is in nice order.

Sep 27     We went to town to N. Vernon and old Vernon and got 4 bushels of seed wheat. This afternoon we went to church, two preachers there, Randolph and Bennet. Big rain tonight.

Sep 28     We went over to church today to hear the two preachers. The ground is pretty well soaked at this time.

Sep 29     We started over to F. R. Gannon's. We met them going to town. We went to Jim Young's. It rained all afternoon and big rain tonight. Ground is very wet.

Oct 1     We are choreing around. It is very wet. It is too wet to plow.

Oct 2     We are choreing this forenoon. This afternoon we gathered a load of corn to feed the hogs on. It is very warm, the ground is wet.

Oct 3     We commenced to plow for wheat again. Since the rain it is wet enough yet.

Oct 5     I am at home today. The rest of the folks went to Sunday School and singing.

Oct 7     The same today again, at the plowing till noon. This afternoon went over the creek at the lower ford to get a load of corn for the hogs. We are almost done. All but one half day breaking.

Oct 8     We commenced this afternoon to sow wheat. Sowed the Michigan wheat that I got at the mill at Vernon. Sowed this today.

Oct 9     Went to mill to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon drilled wheat again. The ground is in nice order to sow.

Oct 10     Drilling wheat all day, today and got most done.

Oct 11     We finished the wheat this morning. This afternoon went over the creek at the lower ford and got a load of corn for feed. Number of bushels sown on the field, 20.

Oct 12     I am at home today, all day. The rest went to singing.

Oct 13     We are choreing around some. We hauled out some manure on the sowed wheat.

Oct 14     We are repairing some fence around the barn yard this forenoon. This afternoon we went over the creek at the lower ford and finished gathering the piece of corn.

Oct 15     We took over the calves at the pasture over the creek at the lower ford this morning. After that we were repairing the fence around the pasture.

Oct 16     We were hauling some rock to stop a branch out of Uncle Moses' field on the corner of the little meadow on road side.

Oct 17     We are gathering around through the old mill bottom corn, so we can get out some of the pumpkins. Then we hauled out two loads.

Oct 18     We were hauling up some wood this forenoon. This afternoon I went to N. Vernon.

Oct 19     I am at home today. The rest of the folks went, all but I. This is the last of the singing.

Oct 20     Went to Vernon and took in some wheat to sell. It is only worth .70 per bushel.

Oct 21     We are gathering in our pumpkins out of the corn.

Oct 22     We are putting our potatoes in the cellar. The weather is cool today and froze a little ice last night.

Oct 23     We gathered one load of corn off the lease land. This is the first load out of the field this year. We allow to take it to town tomorrow. First frost this year.

Oct 24     I went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to sell. Corn is from .45 to .50 at this time. I got .50 for this load.

Oct 25     We gathered two loads of corn this forenoon, Sam and Lawrence and Edy. Not at work this afternoon, I went to church. Maw and Hattie and heard the new preacher.

Oct 26     We went to church again.

Oct 27     This is a rainy day today, most of the day. I went to Vernon today and paid the last half of my tax.

Oct 28     We went to N. Vernon to the rally today. (Presidential race, Cleveland vs Blaine?) It is very cool day.

Oct 29     We commenced to shuck some more corn out of the shock this morning but it set in to rain and we quit.

Oct 30     We are shucking corn out fo the shock today on the wheat on old bottom above new.

Oct 31     We are gathering corn and I took up a load to Tom Dorsen and he took one load. Sold him 50 bu at .45 per bu.

Nov 1     We are gathering corn this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon with a load of corn, got .45 per bu.

Nov 2     We are at home today, all day.

Nov 3     We are at work at the shock corn today. It is damp.

Nov 4     We went to shuck corn out of the shock this morning and it set in to rain. We quit then went to Hardenburg to the election. After we came home we pulled the turnips and ___.

Nov 5     We gathered corn all day, Sam Hawane? and I. We gathered one hundred a day. We are on the lease land.

Nov 6     Still at work at the stalk corn on the lease land. The weather is very nice at this time.

Nov 7     We are still at the same. We well get this piece most done today. Big frost last night.

Nov 8     We finished We finished the lease land this forenoon. Number of bushels this year 665. Eulers are helping us today. We gathered some on the new and old when we got the other done.

Nov 9     We are at home today, all day. The weather is very nice.

Nov 10     We went over the creek by Jerrie's to commence the corn over there. We shucked 100 bu today over there.

Nov 11     At the same piece today and got 100 bu. Very nice time to gather corn.

Nov 12     At the same piece today and finished it. No. of bushels on this piece, this year is 285. This evening we got one load more of the Betsy bottom and one load of pumpkins.

Nov 13     We commenced to gather corn on the old Sullivan wet bottom above the Euler piece. He tended on me.

Nov 14     We are at work at the same piece this morning and got it done. No of bu, 140.

Nov 15     We are gathering today on the Betsy bottom. This has been a very nice week all through. We are most done, only three to four loads yet.

Nov 16     We are at home, no church today. It is a very beautiful day.

Nov 17     We are at work at the shock corn. We are getting most done. If the weather keeps nice we will be done in a day or two.

Nov 18     We are not at work at the corn today. It is blustery and cold. We are choreing around some.

Nov 19     We are hauling in some fodder this forenoon. This afternoon went to shucking on the stalk next to Euler's on the new bottom.

Nov 20     We finished up all of our corn gathering and fodder, all in today at noon. It has been very nice fall to get corn in.

Nov 21     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is a very pretty day today.

Nov 22     We are hauling some fire wood to burn. I, this morning went to see some fence posts that Henry Null had and I bought all of them, 335 for $15.00.

Nov 23     We went to church today. There was a good many out at church.

Nov 24     This is quite a cool day. I am not doing very much. James Wilson was here today.

Nov 25     I am hauling up some fence posts from Henry Null that I got off him, where he made the staves.

Nov 26     I went to N. Vernon and took up a load of corn and sold it to the mill for .45 per bu.

Nov 27     We went down to H. R. Gannon's today. this is a very nice day.

Nov 28     We went over to Sebe Ewing's today. It rained some till near noon and snowed a little.

Nov 29     We are choreing around some repairing up some fence around the corn field so we can turn in the cattle.

Nov 30     We are at home today. Sebe Ewing, Lis, Mother, Hugh and all of them are here today. It is quite chilly weather.

Dec 1     I am choreing around some. It is quite cold and blustery today.

Dec 2     I went to N. Vernon and sent Mrs. Schetgen $41.00 which Hillman paid on the farm. Also to Mrs. Spillman, $21 due to her from the church. All paid to her.

Dec 3     I went up to help Tull Sullivan to raise his barn today. It is a very nice day.

Dec 4     I am today hauling fence posts from the Schetgen piece that Henry Null bought. Very nice weather at this time.

Dec 5     I am choreing around some today. It rained some this morning but it is quite warm.

Dec 6     This has been a rainy day, a good part of the day but it is warm.

Dec 7     We went over to Dave Johnson's to see the sick.

Dec 13     We are this forenoon making a fence around the hay stacks on the Sullivan land to keep the cattle off them. This afternoon ditching some, the ground is wet.

Dec 14     We are at home today, all day. It is some damp and chilly day and this afternoon it rains some.

Dec 15     We went to N. Vernon to mill and market today. It is cold and freezes some all day.

Dec 16     I am choreing around some today. It is cold, chilly weather.

Dec 21     This morning it is sleety and the sleet fell on the little snow that was on the ground and went over to the church. We expected church to commence on last night but it did not.

Dec 22     I am hauling some fence posts. It is quite cold and it is freezing. It turned cold this morning and it has kept on all night, froze hard.

Dec 23     I am not doing much, it is very cold today.

Dec 24     The same today as on yesterday. It is cold weather. The roads are sort of icy to travel at this time.

Dec 25     Christmas We are at home today, all day. The weather is right cold yet but not quite so cold as it has been. Biggest part of the ground is covered with snow.

Dec 26     I went over to Mr. Euler's and helped him to butcher his hogs this morning. The snow is about one inch deep which fell on last evening and this morning. It is very cold.

Dec 27     We all went up to cut some wood this forenoon. We came home at noon and at 1 o'clock it set to rain hard till 2 o'clock when it slacked up. Then I went over to the church but there was no church, it was so bad.

Dec 28     It rained more last night and it still rained some all forenoon and now after 12 o'clock, still rained some. The creek is up, the ice is running out but no church today on account of rain.

Dec 29     I took off my hogs today to N. Vernon, 21 hogs sold to James and Horsehamer at 4 cents a pound. Weight of hogs 289 average, 6015 whole weight. The road is muddy.

Dec 30     I am choreing around this forenoon. This afternoon we are cutting wood to burn. The weather is warm today.

Dec 31     We are cutting wood. This is the last day of the year. It is turning cold fast and tonight it froze hard.

Mar 1     The boys are cutting wood yet to burn. I am choreing around. The weather is cool.

Mar 2     I went to N. Vernon and took up some potatoes. Sold them for .30 per bu.

Mar 3     The boys are at work at the wood and Malen Wrennel's(Reynolds?) is helping today and on yesterday too.

Mar 4     We are splitting wood and ricking it up. Got all done. No of ricks, 32. The week has been nice but a little cool.

Mar 5     We are digging out stumps and roots till noon. This afternoon it set in to rain and rained all evening and all night. The creek is high today.

Mar 6     We are at home today. The ground is very wet. The creek is very high. The highest for 2 years.

Mar 9     We are choreing around today. We sold Molly and Dolly mares to Jim James for 30.00.

Mar 10     We are burning up our hedge brush that was trimmed off.

Mar 11     Went to N. Vernon and to old Vernon and took in a load of wheat and I paid my taxes today.

Mar 12     Took one more load of wheat this morning. Wheat is worth .75 per bu at this time. Went to church this afternoon. Today got one barrel of sugar off Amos Thomas today at 6 ¼ per lb.

Mar 13     Went to church today. This is the first of the new year for Randolph.

Mar 14     We are hauling lumber from Anderson's mill to build a hog pen.

Mar 15     The same today, all day. The weather is right nice. The roads are right good now.

Mar 16     I am sowing our oats today, out on the corner of the old field. Cool weather.

Mar 17     We are hauling out some manure on the potato patch and sowing some clover. Very cool but it is getting dry.

Mar 18     Went to N. Vernon to mill and market. The road is right good at this time.

Mar 19     The same today as on yesterday.

Mar 20     We are at home most of the day. I went over to Sebe Ewing to see Mother. She has just come back from Hugh's.

Mar 21     I am sowing some clover and grass seed on the wheat. A little snow fell this morning. Rennel's came here to work on the hog pen.

Mar 22     We are at the funeral of Broos(Bruce) Deputy at the Ewing graveyard. He died at 19 of March. Hauled some rock for hog pen.

Mar 23     I am fixing the foundation under the hog house.

Mar 24     I am sowing some grass seed this forenoon. We raised the hog house today. The wind blew hard.

Mar 25     We are hauling out some manure and I am helping to plank up the hog house.

Mar 26     We are plowing the garden and the potato patches and planted the onions and potatoes.

Mar 27     We are at home today. Part of the folks went over to the church. The Sunday School re-organized today for this year.

Mar 28     Went to N. Vernon and took up Maw to the train to go down to Mary Barnes'. We commenced to plow some for corn.

Mar 29     We broke some stalks today and plowed some this afternoon. The ground is froze right hard this morning till noon.

Mar 30     We are breaking stalks and I am helping on the hog house till noon. It began to snow very fast. It is not fit to work.

Mar 31     This morning the ground is covered with snow but it is all melt today, most of it. I finished sowing clover seed today on the wheat.

Apr 1     This is a very pretty morning. I and Mr. Reynolds are at work on the hog house. Commenced to put on the roof this afternoon.

Apr 2     Very nice day. The boys are plowing for corn on the clover piece till noon. Then I went to N. Vernon and took Polly and Joe colts for the first time together.

     Apr 3     Went to Sunday School. The weather is very cool at this time.

Apr 4     We are plowing. The weather is cool. Maw came home today from down on the river, been gone a week.

Apr 25     We are a choreing around. The ground is very wet after so much rain.

Apr 26     Took up to Mike Simmons one load of corn. Then hauled some stove wood. This afternoon went over the creek to repair fence.

Apr 27     We are over the creek repairing fence so we can turn out the cattle. We took them over then rolled some logs.

Apr 28     I am trimming apple trees some. It is too wet to plow yet.

Apr 29     We are rolling out some logs and trimming some apple trees.

May 13     We are at work on the long bottom planting corn.

May 14     We got done this bottom at 10 o'clock then went and planted some on the upper end of the new and old till noon. Then went to church.

May 15     Today I am not well. I did not go to church. The rest of the folks went to church.

Mar 16     We are breaking up the rest of the new bottom and harrowing some of it.

Mar 17     We are planting the new bottom. We did not get quite done. The rain came on and stopped us.

May 18     The boys are cultivating some of the clover sod this forenoon. This afternoon we planted the rest of the new bottom.

May 19     We went over the creek at Jerrie's to break it for the first.

May 20     We went over and got done plowing and harrowing at noon. This afternoon planted it all. Edy is a cultivating the clover.

May 21     We are planting the clover sod today and finished all of it that we will plant this year on this piece. Very warm.

May 22     I am at home today. The rest went to Sunday School.

May 23     We went over the creek at the lower ford to plow corn. Lawrence is breaking for corn on the old bottom.

May 24     We are at work on the old bottom getting to plant. We commenced to plant some this evening but it rained.

May 25     We finished breaking and planting today. All done for this year.

May 26     Went to N. Vernon and old Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon we are plowing corn at the lower ford field.

Aug 2     I went to N. Vernon and took up some wheat, the rakings and sold it for .65 per bu. Very warm and still dry.

Oct 1     We shucked out some corn out of the shock out of long bottom this morning and hauled in the fodder this afternoon. Plowed on the Schetgen place.

Oct 2     We are at home today. This is a very nice day.

Oct 3     We are sowing the long bottom to wheat today and got it done at noon. Then went to drilling on field by the barn.

Nov 6     We are at home today and Mary Barnes is here today. She came here on Friday last. Went over to the Burg this evening.

Nov 7     We are repairing the fence over the creek at the lower ford to put in the cattle.

Dec 10     This is a rainy time and is getting muddy. We went to church. It is very dark time and some rain sifting down.

Dec 13     I went down to Jim James' and helped to get out boards for Lee's (Lawrence?) house.

Dec 17     I was a burning some hedge brush this forenoon. This afternoon took up a load of wood to Lee's. Cloudy and dark.

Dec 20     Went up to Vernon to court on the trial of Canfield's. Rain most all day and tonight. It turned cold.

Dec 31     Some snow fell last night and we went over to the church to singing. It set in to rain last night and rain all day. Corn gathered this year over the creek at the lower ford…number of bu, 190.
