Jan 1     We went to church. The protracted meeting is still going on. The weather is cold and the roads are rough.

Jan 2     Went to church again. Cold but not so cold quite as it has been.

Jan 3     Church again today but tonight it broke up.

Jan 4     Went over to Hardenburg today to make out the deeds for the old mill property of the Sullivan heirs. There was a big snow fell today. The first snow.

Jan 5     The snow is about six inches deep this morning. It would make very good sleighing but tonight it rained some and made it soft and slushy.

Jan 6     We went to old Vernon today and to the Tunnel Mill. The roads are very slushy snow and water. It is thawing the snow off fast.

Jan 7     It is raining this morning and it rained so much that the creek is high tonight.

Jan 8     We are at home today, all day. The creek is high and we can not get over to Prayer Meeting today.

Jan 9     I cut down the first sycamore tree on the new bottom I bought off Betsy Sullivan today. This is a very nice day.

Jan 10     I am at the same today but it rained some tonight.

Jan 11     I am choreing around today. It rains a little most every day.

Jan 12     I went to the sale at Richard Garinger's today and bought two head of cattle off him for $24.20 on 9 months credit. Nicholas Garinger is the right name.

Jan 13     It set in to rain last evening and it rained most of the night and it still rains all morning till most noon today. I am not doing very much today.

Jan 14     We was all of us, cutting logs on the bottom. We allow to clear and we rolled some of the logs in the creek. We allow to clear off most of the bottom this spring.

Jan 15     We went to Prayer Meeting today. There was but five there today. It rains some today.

Jan 16     The weather is bad rainy and drizzling and this evening it began to sleet. Then it set in to snow and it snowed about two inches last night.

Jan 17     There is snow on the ground this morning. We went over to Marsh's today on a visit. It is cool and chilly day.

Jan 18     The snow still lays on yet and it is not very cold. It froze right hard last night.

Jan 19     Went to town of N. Vernon, Hugh and I. I paid Hugh $100 today that I had borrowed off him. He has bought the Ewing's land and is going to make a payment. Cool day.

Jan 20     I am not doing much this forenoon. This afternoon I went down on the bottom to chop timber. The weather is chilly.

Jan 21     We are all of us, at work at the clearing. Sawing logs and chopping them in length.

Jan 22     Went over to Prayer Meeting this morning. The ground froze to bear up last night. It is cold this morning.

Jan 23     I was this forenoon, working on the clearing. This afternoon filing the saw to cut logs with.

Jan 24     Coldest morning. We are butchering our hogs today. We butchered 5. One we killed about 1 month ago, that is 6 for this year. Weight of hogs about 200 lbs whole. 1200 lbs at 5 ½ cents, $66.00.

Jan 25     This is a rainy day. The ground is froze some but it is thawing out. I salted the meat this morning. I cut it up yesterday.

Jan 26     This is another rainy day. Not much doing. The creek is past fording today.

Jan 27     I am cutting some more logs on the bottom. Hugh and Mother are here today. It is very muddy.

Jan 28     We are at work cutting logs on the bottom, all of us, till noon . This afternoon went to church. Brother Spillman was re-elected for the next year.

Jan 29     We went to church today. It is cold and chilly day. The roads are very rough.

Jan 30     We are working at the clearing. Burgmyer's are at work too today. This is a nice day. It is a little cold. The ground is froze.

Jan 31     There was a big snow fell on last night and it snowed some more this morning but it cleared off this afternoon and the snow began to soften.

Feb 1     Went to town to mill and market. Went on the sled. The sleighing is not very good, it has thawed the snow off the roads and it is muddy in places. Got a new crosscut saw.

Feb 2     I hauled one load of corn over to Yount Childs' today of 25 bu on the one hundred that I was to haul him. The roads are very bad. The snow is melting.

Feb 3     I and Charlie are working down on the bottom chopping down some dead trees for wood to burn out of the tops. The snow melts off some every day.

Feb 4     We are hauling up some wood from the bottom that we cut yesterday. I sowed some grass seed this morning for the first.

Feb 5     Went to Prayer Meeting today. It is a chilly day. Froze last night and thaws today.

Feb 6     I went over to Mrs. Green's house to set off her and her heirs property. I and Mr. Marsh had to go to Vernon to be sworn in. The roads are very muddy.

Feb 7     At the same today. We set off the widow's part on where she lives and Jimmy on the same farm. This is a rainy day by spells and muddy.

Feb 8     I had allowed to have gone back to the land appraisal but the creek is up and I cannot get over. I was at work on the clearing this forenoon. This afternoon I went down to Burgmyer's and received my wood.

Feb 9     I am choreing around today. This forenoon fixing a fence at the orchard for the cattle to get water at the branch. It is very muddy at this time.

Feb 10     I am sowing grass seed today on the wheat on the new ground on the Sullivan land below Uncle Moses. I did not get all done yet. It is a very pretty day. It froze some last night.

Feb 11     We are all of us, at work at the clearing. Cutting down trees and cutting them up. This is a nice day, warm. The mud dried up fast today.

Feb 12     This is a rainy day. We did not go to Prayer Meeting. The roads are muddy.

Feb 13     We are rolling logs in the creek today and floating them off. The creek is high today at noon.

Feb 14     Went to town today with some wheat. The roads are very muddy at this time. Wheat is worth 1.30 per bu.

Feb 15     We are at work at the clearing today, cutting logs and wood. The weather is very pretty overhead and war but very muddy. I sowed some grass seed by the cribs today.

Feb 16     We are at the clearing today. Very pretty weather overhead but the ground is wet. There has been so much rain the creek is past fording today. The roads are very bad. People can not do any hauling this winter.

Feb 17     We are at the same today as on yesterday. Cutting wood and logs. We are getting most done cutting logs.

Feb 18     We are at the same. Still at the clearing. Weather very pleasant overhead and warm but there is a great deal of rain fell every few days. The creek has been up a great many times this winter.

Feb 19     Went to Prayer Meeting. It set in rain and rained most of the day and tonight and the creek is rising very fast.



Feb 20     This morning the creek is full and is rising. It is high. We are floating out logs out of the new ground. The creek is still high tonight. Big rain tonight.

Feb 21     The creek is the highest this morning it has been for over a year. It is out all over the bottom and it turned cold this morning and froze some today. Tul Sullivan's buried their baby today. We was there today.

Feb 22     We are at work on the bottom cutting some wood. It is right cold and chilly day. It is the coldest weather we have had in this month.

Feb 23     The boys are cutting wood this morning. I went up to John Wolsifer's to see them about selling some cattle and they bought ½ ton of hay.

Feb 24     I am this morning, sowing some grass seed on the wheat on the bottom and some on the meadow back of the barn. The weather is cool and chilly. Went to town this evening.

Feb 25     Finished sowing grass seed on the bottom wheat this morning. The ground froze some last night. We went to church this afternoon.

Feb 26     Went to church today. This is a very pleasant day.

Feb 27     We are cutting wood on the deadnen, fire wood. The weather is nice. I took to town with whet to N. Vernon, 23 bu at 1.30. The roads are not very good.

Feb 28     We are all of us cutting wood to burn, out of the clearing.

Mar 1     We are at work at Caiton's woods, making fence posts out of oak that I got off him for hay he got off me. Weather very nice.

Mar 2     I went to old Vernon and took up twelve bushel of wheat at 1.30. The weather is very nice and warm and pleasant. The roads are drying off very nice. The boys finished the posts at Caiton's. No. of posts 210 at .10 per = $21.00

Mar 3     I went to Hardenburg today to pay Betsy Sullivan all of her money for the bottom land. It is all paid to her. Weather very nice.

Mar 4     I am hauling wheat to the Tunnel mills today. Took two loads. 46 bus at 1.30, $59.80 whole amount. This is a right nice day. The roads are tolerably good. They are drying off fast. Mar 5     We, Maw and Emma went up to Charles Young's today. This is a very nice day and warm.

Mar 6     We are getting some spikes and some skids to roll logs with. The boys are cutting off a gum and I allow to haul it before noon to smoke our meet in. We brought it up.

Mar 7     Went to Vernon on business at court to report to the court what we had done in dividing up the Green's heirs property. This is a cool day.

Mar 8     We are or the boys are sawing some logs on the bottom. The weather is chilly. The creek is very high today. The wind blows hard.

Mar 9     The boys are sawing off a gum to smoke meat in. We hauled it up, then we hung up the meat and went to smoking. The weather is wet. The creek is high.

Mar 10     I went out to try to buy some hogs but I did not get any. They are very scarce. The day is very chilly.

Mar 11     I, Lawrence and Edy are hauling out some wood out of the bottom and piling it up along the roadside. Charles and Dick are sawing some logs.

Mar 12     We are at home. This is a very nice day.

Mar 13     I am weighing out hay for Butler and Caiton out of the stacks today. Sold at $11.50 per ton.

Mar 14     At the same today till noon and sold to Jim Marsh, one stack at the same amount. This afternoon I am rolling some logs in the creek. This is very nice weather and the roads are drying off.

Mar 15     We commenced to plow for oats today for the first time. The ground is plenty wet yet. The ground is drying off fast.

Mar 16     We sowed our oats and clover today and plowed the garden and put out onions and planted some potatoes in the garden.

Mar 17     We went to the Tunnel mill today with wheat and corn and got it ground and got home about 1 o'clock. It commenced to rain and rained all afternoon.

Mar 18     The day is right nice. We was at work on the new ground this forenoon. This afternoon I went over to Hardenburg to the nomination. This is quite a warm day.

Mar 19     We went up to Mike Simon's today. It is dark and cloudy.

Mar 20     I went to N. Vernon on business. It rained a good all last night and today it rained more and this evening the creek is very high and still it rained hard tonight.

Mar 21     Charles started away to Michigan this morning. (NOTE: Charles Gibbs) This morning the creek is the highest it has been since the June rise. It has washed down a great deal of fence and taken out the new ground a great many logs.

Mar 22     We brought home the hogs that we got off Wallace's and Lee's today. It is a very chilly day.

Mar 23     We are putting up some fence that the water throwed down. It is a muddy time.

Mar 24     At the same today. Repairing fence on both sides of the creek. The fence is badly down on both sides of the creek. Mar 25     Went to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon went to church. After church went over to Yount Childs' with a load corn.

Mar 26     We went to church today. This is communion day at our church.

Mar 27     We are at work at hauling out rails out of the Sullivan bottom and putting the fence up along the road where the water washed it away. It is very muddy work.

Mar 28     We are at the same today over the creek on the meadow that the water drifted back. It is muddy.

Mar 29     We are at the same today over the creek and got it closed in so that stock won't get in. This is a nice day for work but it is muddy yet where the water has been up.

Mar 30     We are fixing fence and cutting some logs and burning brush. Weather nice.

Mar 31     We are rolling logs on the lease ground that the water floated out and drift.

Apr 1     I went to N. Vernon to market and to see Miller & Brothers about the building of a house. They are to build the whole of it from the foundation and complete it.

Apr 2     We are at home today. This is a very nice day. Jim Young and folks are here today.

Apr 3     I went to Lovit this morning, then home. Then went to Hardenburg to the election. This is very nice weather at this time.

Apr 4     We are at work at breaking up some ground and planting some potatoes today, all day. The ground is in good order.

Apr 5     I am sowing some clover seed on the field across the road from Uncle Moses' house on the wheat stubble where it failed and Lawrence is a harrowing it in.

Apr 6     We are rolling logs on the lease ground that the water took on it. We got them about all done. This is very nice weather.

Apr 7     We are rolling logs on the new bottom. Henry Pettifoot is helping today. This is a very nice time. The weather is very nice at this time. Very pleasant.

Apr 8     We are finishing planting the rest of the potatoes this forenoon and plowing some more in the orchard. This afternoon we went over the creek to clean off the meadows and finish the fence the water scattered.

Apr 9     We are at home today, all day. This is a very nice warm day. Very growing time as I ever saw for the time of year. The apple trees are most all in full bloom.

Apr 10     We are this morning hauling out some manure out on the orchard and plowed the rest of the orchard. We allow to plow this afternoon. We commenced to break up some on the lease for corn for the first.

Apr 11     Went to old Vernon and to the Tunnel mills and paid the tax. This is a right cold day. It turned cold on last evening and this morning the ground is froze and ice on water.

Apr 12     We are logging today on the new ground, all day. It is cool. Last night it froze hard enough to freeze. It has killed most of the fruit.

Apr 13     We, Lawrence and I are getting out some rails out of Uncle Moses' field this forenoon. This afternoon we are breaking stalks and raking on the lease ground. Weather cool.

Apr 14     We commenced to break up for corn over the creek where Marshal had the corn. The ground is in very good order. The weather is cool and frost every night.

Apr 15     We are plowing on the same till noon. This afternoon we hauled over two loads of corn to Yount Childs. This is the last of the 200 bus. That I sold to him. Very cool.

Apr 16     We are at home today. Mother and Hugh are here and H. R. and Jane Gannon are here today. This is a very pretty day.

Apr 17     We are still at breaking for corn. The weather is nice. We are trying to burn the logs off the new ground.

Apr 18     Still at the same and H. Pettifoot and I are repairing fence on the lease bottom today. It is nice weather now.

Apr 19     We are still at work at the plowing and fixing fence on the bottom. It rained some last night and some more today but not much.

Apr 20     We are at the same today. Plowing and repairing fence. Very nice weather but cool.

Apr 21     The same, plowing hauling out some rails on the line fence between I and Euler. The rail fence is all done today at noon. Weather nice but cool.

Apr 22     We got all done braking up the new lease land today at noon. It rained this morning. There is church today. It rained today.

Apr 23     Went to church today. It is very cool today and chilly. It is too cool for anything to grow.

Apr 24     We are at work rolling some logs on the new ground out of the way. Some that I want for saw logs.

Apr 25     We are over the creek building a bridge across the bio(?) so we can cross over on our own land and we broke the stalks over there and began to plow some.

Apr 26     We are at work in the clearing today burning it. Rained some today.

Apr 27     We are at work in the clearing and the boys are plowing.

Apr 28     Plowing and harrowing at this time. The weather is very nice at this time but very cool. Too cool for anything to grow fast. There is but very little corn planted yet. The most of the folks are about ready.

Apr 29     I went to N. Vernon this forenoon. The boys are over the creek at the lower ford this evening. The ground is all ready to plant at any time when the weather gets warmer.

Apr 30     This is the first day of our Sunday School. This is a very cool day for the season.

May 1     We are logging some this forenoon. This afternoon we are breaking the stalks on the Sullivan lands for the first. We began to break up some there this evening for the first. Very cool last night.

May 2     We are planting corn over the creek at the lower ford today. This is the first corn we have planted this year. The weather is cool.

May 3     We went to old Vernon and to the Tunnel's mill this forenoon and got some medicine off Doc Richerson for Maw. This afternoon finished the corn at the ford.

May 4     We are planting corn on the lease land today. The ground is in good order and tonight it rained hard.

May 5     We are not doing very much. It is wet and it rains some yet today by spells. The creek is up some.

May 6     We are at work at the clearing today. The creek is up high. It took off my lumber that I hauled on yesterday. We allowed to have made fence today but the back water is in the way and no lumber.

May 7     We are at home today. The creek is high. Just past ford only. This is a nice day.

May 8     We are rolling some logs off the clearing and got them most all gone that we had to roll. There is a few yet to gather up and put together yet.

May 9     Nothing much done. It is rainy and wet. Too wet to do very much.

May 10     We are building some fence along the new ground at the ford by the creek. It is very muddy and wet. It rains every day and nobody can plant corn this week at all, or plow.

May 11     It rains by spells today, all day. Today at dinner time we got word that Cate Schetgen was dead. We went up there and then went to old Vernon and got the coroner to come out.

May 12     We are building some plank fence along the creek on the new ground by the ford. It rains in showers all day and the ground is wet and muddy.

May 13     Went to the funeral of Cate Schetgen this forenoon. This afternoon we are trying to finish a few logs we have left on the new ground but we did not get done. It rained again and we quit. No corn planted this week.

May 14     I am at home today. F. H. Gannon and folks are here. The weather is very cool and the ground is wet.

May 15     We commenced this afternoon to break up the new ground that I got off Betsy Sullivan.

May 16     The same today, plowing and rolling some chunk heaps. The ground is drying off nice and fast. It will do to plant on dry land today.

May 17     We are finishing planting the rest of the lease land that we had not planted. We got it done and came up and plowed the potatoes and cleaned the garden.

May 18     We are planting corn over by Jerrie's this forenoon. This afternoon we are breaking on the new bottom and harrowing. The weather is nice but cool.

May 19     We are at work at the plowing and harrowing.

May 20     At the same and got all done, ready to plant.

May 21     Went up to Mother's today.

May 22     We are putting up fence on the new bottom today. It rained some this morning and we did not plant the new bottom.

May 23     We planted the new bottom today. It is a very nice day and the fence is most done along the creek.

May 24     We are at work on the old wet Sullivan bottom, breaking and planted some. It is wet.

May 25     We are at the same today till noon. We got all done that was dry enough and planted at noon today. This afternoon went to N. Vernon to mill and market.

Mar 26     We are over the creek at eh lower ford piece plowing and harrowing. This is the first corn we have plowed this read. The weather is a little warmer today. Went to town with the last load of wheat.

May 27     We went over the creek again to plow corn and harrow but the rain came on and we had to quit and come home. It is too wet. Went to church this afternoon.

May 28     We are at home today. There is church but the creek is high and is rising so we did not go over. It is cloudy and dark and sprinkles some by spells all day.

May 29     We are choreing around, the ground is too wet to plow. We are piling up some manure back of the barn.

May 30     We plowed corn till most noon. This afternoon it rained most of the time.

May 31     Wet time. It is too wet to plow corn.

Jun 1     Went to old Vernon to court on the case of Spencer and Becca(?) James. It is a very cool morning. The creek is past ford.

Jun 2     We are choreing around this forenoon. This afternoon we are plowing corn at the lower ford.

Jun 3     We are at work at the corn on the lower end of the lease land till eleven o'clock when it set in to rain and we quit. It is a wet time and very cool. The corn is very small for the time of year. Jun 4     Went to Sunday School. The day is cool.

Jun 5     We are at work at the corn, plowing.

Jun 6     The same as yesterday.

Jun 7     The same till noon. This afternoon we planted our beans and laid our potatoes by. The weather is nice this time but cool yet.

Jun 8     We went over the creek by the church and plowed our corn for the first time this year.

Jun 9     We are at work at the corn on the little piece on the Sullivan lands and Dick is helping Euler to harrow and plant.

Jun 10     We are at work on the new bottom by the old mill, cutting out the weeds and elders till five o'clock when it rained.

Jun 11     We are at home today, all day. It is a rainy day. We went over to Sebe Ewing's with three head of hogs. Taking them to Pilner tomorrow.

Jun 12     Went out to Short's mill today with 3 head of hogs for Pilner. Weight 590 lbs at 6 ½ cents a pound. $38.35. This is a wet time. Went to Vernon this afternoon.

Jun 13     We are plowing corn on the lease bottom at the lower end till about 5 o'clock when the rain stopped us. The ground was wet enough before the rain.

Jun 14     We are a choreing around. It rained hard last night and today. The creek is rising.

Jun 15     Still rain and the creek is high this morning and it raised till noon. It is out on the low bottoms on the corn. It is a damage to the corn on the lower places.

Jun 16     We commenced to haul lumber from Short's mill today. The creek is only fordable. This is a very wet time. The people cannot plow their corn. All of this week it has been so wet and it still rains.

Jun 17     This morning the creek is past ford. We went to N. Vernon to mill and market.

Jun 18     We are at home. It rains some this morning.

Jun 19     I am hauling some more lumber from the mill for the house and Euler is helping today. The boys are plowing on the new ground bottom for the first time.

Jun 20     We are plowing on the lease bottom the second time. The ground is dry enough.

Jun 21     We went over the creek at the lower ford today to plow.

Jun 22     We finished at the lower ford at noon today. Then went over to Jerrie's and plowed.

Jun 23     We are plowing on the new bottom today.

Jun 24     We are at work at the same and the weather is warm at this time. The wheat is most ripe enough to cut. It will do on Monday to begin.

Jun 25     Went to church today. The weather is warm.

Jun 26     We commenced to cut wheat today for the first.

Jun 27     Cutting wheat today and it is very warm.

Jun 28     The same. We are at the wheat and the weather…

Jun 29     We are not at the wheat this forenoon it is very wet and rainy. This afternoon we are at the wheat with cradles. The ground is very wet.

Jun 30     We are at work at the wheat on the new ground wheat till noon. We got it most done with the cradles. The ground is very wet at this time. We commenced to cut in the other field above this afternoon.

Jul 1     We are at work at the wheat today with the cradles. It is too soft to cut with the machine. We have about five acres to cut yet.

Jul 2     We went to Sunday School. This is a very nice day. There is some cutting wheat today.

Jul 3     We are cutting wheat today and finished it. This is a very nice day. It is damp and cool. We got done about four o'clock.

Jul 4     We, Ed and I are plowing corn today.

Jul 5     We are plowing corn over the creek at the lower ford.

Jul 6     We are plowing corn over the creek by Jerrie's till noon. This afternoon on the new ground.

Jul 7     We are at work at the corn on the new ground, plowing and suckering and hoeing out weeds.

Jul 8     We are at work at the corn on the Sullivan bottom. It is cloudy weather.

Jul 9     We are at home today, all day. This is a nice day.

Jul 10     We are at work at the corn on the bottom, thinning it out and we are plowing it too. We have help at work at it.

Jul 11     At the same at the corn. We are giving it the last plowing and thinning out on the lease land.

Jul 12     We commenced to haul in some wheat and stack it this afternoon and some of us are at work at the corn. We got the corn at the lower ford all done today.

Jul 13     We are hauling in wheat and got one field done in stalk. It has been raining this week, bad time to get work done. The oats is just cut, not bound yet.

Jul 14     We plowed corn over by Jerrie's this forenoon. This is the last plowing. This afternoon we bound oats above the barn.

Jul 15     We raked up some wheat on the stubble and hauled in the rakings and the first load of hay this year and bound the rest of the oats in the orchard. This has been a very drying day.

Jul 16     We are at home most all day. The children went to Sunday School.

Jul 17     This morning it rains till 9 o'clock and wet the wheat and oats that is out. I have two fields out yet. Expect the machine on Wednesday but it has rained now and it is behind.

Jul 18     We are at work at the corn a plowing on the Sullivan bottom. Rain at 5 o'clock. The machine had just come to Sebe's to thrash his wheat.

Jul 19     We are helping Sebe to thrash till 3 o'clock when he got done. Then they went to Harrison Spencer's.

Jul 20     We are hauling some wheat and stacking it ready for the machine tomorrow. Hugh is helping this afternoon.

Jul 21     We are thrashing today and got the job done today. No. of bu, 471.

Jul 22     I and Edy are hauling wheat to N. Vernon to Cope at .96 per bu for fulty? wheat. It is nice weather at this time. Jul 23     Went to church today. It is out in the woods today.

Jul 24     I went to N. Vernon with two loads of wheat. John Simons, Dick and Lawrence are helping Sam Young to thrash wheat and oats. We hauled in our oats this afternoon and commenced to mow.

Jul 25     Went to N. Vernon with the last load of wheat. Took it to Carney McGannon, 34 bu at .95. This afternoon hauled in hay out of the oats field by the barn.

Jul 26     Cutting grass and putting up hay. It is a nice time for hay.

Jul 27     Still at the hay and John Simmons is helping. Weather is nice. We are cutting in the field by the barn. We got it all cut but not all up.

Jul 28     It is a cloudy morning till 10 o'clock when it cleared off and we went to putting up hay till 5 o'clock when it rained and stopped us. One load yet on this field.

Jul 29     We are this forenoon mowing down some weeds and some wheat that was left on the fultz wheat and raking the stubble and hauled in the last of our hay we had at home.

Jul 30     We are at home today. It is very nice this forenoon. This afternoon it rained some.

Jul 31     It is raining this forenoon by showers. We went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is raining another shower at this time, 3 o'clock.

Aug 1     We are mowing down some weeds along the corn around the fences. It is wet time. The creek is past ford today. Very poor hay weather.

Aug 2     We went over the creek to work at our hay. We cut some and got up some of what we had down. This afternoon it is very poor time to get up hay.

Aug 3     We are at work at cutting out weeds and hoeing out the beans out in the orchard.

Aug 4     We are at work at the hay cutting and putting up hay. This is a good afternoon for hay.

Aug 5     We hauled in two loads of hay we had above the ditch. We got it all hauled and we cut below the ditch till noon and we allowed to haul this afternoon when at noon the rain came on and stopped us for today.

Aug 6     We are cutting grass and trying to put up hay but it is showery weather. Went to Sunday School.

Aug 7     The day is nice till noon when it clouded over and is not very good for hay.

Aug 8     We cut and put up some in shock. It rained some and is not very good day for hay.

Aug 9     We cut and put up hay today. Mike Simon is helping us. We got up a good deal of hay today. It is a very nice day for hay.

Aug 10     Went to the Fair today. All of us. It is a very nice day.

Aug 11     I went to N. Vernon with a load of corn this morning and brought out a load of stuff for the house. Then Edy and I hauled in some hay from over the creek.

Aug 12     We finished our hay today. It is very nice weather for hay at this time but the hay is very ripe.

Aug 13     We are at home today. The children went to Sunday School.

Aug 14     We commenced to dig the cellar to build the house today.

Aug 15     We are hauling rock for the cellar wall.

Aug 16     Went to N. Vernon with a load of corn. We commenced to plow for wheat this evening for the first this season.

Aug 17     Went to Scipio for a load of lime for the cellar wall. It is a cloudy kind of day.

Aug 18     The stone mason came on to work today at the cellar wall. I am hauling sand and rock today.

Aug 19     I am hauling rock for the cellar wall and the mason is at work at the walls. It is a nice day.

Aug 20     We are at home today again. This afternoon the Euler's are here.

Aug 21     We are at work at hauling rock and walling the cellar. It is a nice time.

Aug 22     The same today as on yesterday.

Aug 23     We are at the same this forenoon. This afternoon hauled some lumber from the mill for the house. The machine is at Jiles'(Giles?) this afternoon.

Aug 24     The mason got the cellar done at 3 o'clock today. We are helping Jiles too. He got done at 3 o'clock, then the machine went to Schetgen's.

Aug 25     We are helping Schetgen's to thrash this forenoon. This afternoon went to help Tull Sullivan.

Aug 26     Thrashed out Tull's wheat and got done and went to Otis' and thrashed out his wheat. It is kind of rainy today by spells.

Aug 27     At Sunday School and church today.

Aug 28     Went up to help Otis thrash out his oats. He got done then moved up to Hugh's and helped him this afternoon.

Aug 29     Went and helped Hugh to finish thrashing. He got done at 10 o'clock and I came home and went to N. Vernon.

Aug 30     Choreing around this forenoon. This afternoon went out to Short's mill and got the sills and all the balance of the lumber for the house, the last.

Aug 31     Went out to Coffee Creek Church to the Association.

Sep 1     Went to plowing again after several days rain it has been too wet till now and it is wet enough at this time. Went to N. Vernon this afternoon and got a load of shingles.

Sep 2     Went to Hardenburg to the Harvest Home. It rained some. This morning is a little wet.

Sep 3     We are at home today. It is a nice day.

Sep 4     The carpenters came this morning to work at the house for the first time. There was four of them. They worked all the week. I went to town and brought out their tools.

Sep 5     Went to town and brought out some lumber and shingles. It is nice weather.

Sep 6     Went to town and got more lumber and shingles. This afternoon commenced to haul out manure on the wheat ground.

Sep 7     We are hauling out manure today, all day. The weather is nice at this time.

Sep 8     Went to town this morning and got the last of the shingles and about all of the lumber. This afternoon hauled out manure.

Sep 9     We are hauling manure today and got most done out of the barn yard so we can thrash at any time.

Sep 10     We are at home today, all day. The day is nice. We got word that the thrashing machine will be here tomorrow to thrash out our wheat.

Sep 11     This morning the boys went to N. Vernon and got one load for the house. This afternoon we commenced to thrash out our wheat but did not get it done. The engine got out of order.

Sep 12     This morning at 9 o'clock we went to thrashing again and got the wheat and oats done by a little after noon. No. of bus of wheat, 216, oats, 100 bus.

Sep 13     Went to N. Vernon this afternoon and got two loads of brick for the stove flue in the new house. The weather is nice and dry for several days. We are still plowing some.

Sep 14     The boys went to N. Vernon and brought out a load of lumber for the house this forenoon. This afternoon we hauled some sand to plaster with. Weather dry.

Sep 15     We are hauling some sand this forenoon. This afternoon we commenced to harrow the wheat ground. It is very dry at this time. We are all done breaking.

Sep 16     Paid to Miller on contract, $205. To him, five dollars. Edy is harrowing on the wheat ground this forenoon. This afternoon we went too N. Vernon and got a load of brick for the old flue. The carpenter has worked two weeks now.

Sep 17     We are at home today. This is a very nice day.

Sep 18     We are hauling some sand for the plastering of the house. The plasterers came on to lathe.

Sep 19     Went to N. Vernon and brought out the last of the lathe for the house. We are hauling sand. Big rain this evening.

Sep 20     We are cutting some corn off of the lease land. This evening we hauled some sand from Norman Gannon's. It is a very wet time.

Sep 21     Went to N. Vernon to get limb but there was none. It rains most of the day slowly and is very wet and muddy.

Sep 22     Cutting corn over the creek at the lower ford. John Sites' is cutting.

Sep 23     Went to N. Vernon and got a load of limb this forenoon. This afternoon went over to church.

Sep 24     went to church today. There is church over the church?.

Sep 25     Went to N. Vernon after a load of lime this forenoon. This afternoon commenced to sow wheat for the first time.

Sep 26     Sowing wheat and harrowing in wheat on the next lower field below ford fence, we got it done today.

Sep 27     We commenced to break up the lower wheat stubble where the fultz wheat ground. It is for wheat this side and the other side is for corn next spring.

Sep 28     We are at the same with one team. I went to N. Vernon to take home the carpenter's tools. They are all done till it is plastered. We commenced to sow wheat on the new ground this evening.

Sep 29     We went to work at the wheat sowing this morning but the rain came on and we had to quit and we could not do anymore at the wheat.

Sep 30     We plowed some today on the wheat stubble for corn. We are turning the weeds under for corn next spring.

Oct 1     We are at home today all day. This is a very nice day.

Oct 2     We are at work. At work plowing for corn and Dick is harrowing for Euler. We are most done cutting corn.

Oct 3     We this afternoon, finished sowing and harrowing in the new ground wheat. It is very muddy in places. Number of bus. sowed, 9 ½.

Oct 4     We sowed our last fulty wheat (a variety of wheat) on the lower field where there is corn on the new bottom. We are at work plowing the rest of the field for corn next spring. No. of bus. Of wheat, 4.

Oct 5     We are still plowing the weeds under. It is a very nice time to plow.

Oct 6     The plasterers came today and put on one coat. It is a nice time. The weather is warm.

Oct 30     Went to church today this forenoon. The boys are gathering corn. We went to Vernon to take Joe to the doctor. He is sick. The weather is nice.

Oct 31     Went to church this forenoon. The baptizing was done after the morning meeting, then church broke up for this time.

Nov 1     We are shucking out a little corn out of the shock. It is damp and nice but the corn is not hardly dry enough to crib yet.

Nov 2     We took up a load of wheat and a load of corn to N. Vernon. Wheat is .85 per bu, corn is .40 for new corn. Weather is nice. The corn is not hardly dry enough yet to crib.

Nov 3     We shucked out one load of corn this morning then took it to N. Vernon and sold it. The carpenters came this morning after the plasterer for the first time.

Nov 4     Went to the sale at Nick Bowerlie's today. The boys are trying to get out the old iron at the old mill. Very nice weather at this time.

Nov 5     We are at home all day. The weather is very nice.

Nov 6     Went to N. Vernon with a load of corn, then brought home the balance of the fixtures for the new house. The carpenters are here at work this week.

Nov 7     We gathered corn this forenoon. This afternoon went to Hardenburg to the election. It is nice warm weather now and the corn is just only fit to crib this week.

Nov 26     We went to church today. It is a cool chilly day.

Nov 27     I and Sam Spencer are hauling in fodder off of lease land. The boys are shucking corn and Hugh is helping to shuck.

Nov 28     We are at the new ground corn today. It is a nice time for the time of year. Sam Spencer is helping.

Nov 29     Still at the corn on new ground.

Nov 30     The same today this morning. The ground is hard froze and a big frost on.

Dec 1     We are at the new ground and got it done. Number bushels, 475. Then we gathered one load on the old Sullivan bottom.

Dec 2     We are at the same and got done all on stalk. The amount gathered of of this piece, 115 bushels.

Dec 3     Went to Prayer Meeting today. This is a very nice day but a little cool.

Dec 4     Boys started to school. I am choreing around today putting some potatoes in the cellar and going up to Robbins' to get his bull.

Dec 5     We went up to Robbins' and brought home his bull. It rains hard and still rains yet at 3 o'clock.

Dec 6     Went to N. Vernon and old Vernon and bought a stove and a pair of bedsteads. The day is cool and damp. Paid to Miller Brothers, $44.00 (forty four), balance due Jan 1, 1884.

Dec 7     This is a cold morning and all day. We moved in to our new house today for the first. This is a cold night. I am not doing very much. It is cold.

Dec 8     I am choreing around. It is a cold morning and a cold day. There is not so much wind as there was yesterday.

Dec 9     We are shucking six shocks that we had out on the new ground and then hauled in the fodder out of this corner so that the cattle can go in the stalk field tomorrow.

Dec 10     Went over to Prayer Meeting today. It is cool.

Dec 11     I went to N. Vernon with a load of corn today. It is frozen and chilly weather.

Dec 12     I went to town again today with corn. The weather is not so cool. It freezes at night, thaws in daytime.

Dec 14     Took in another load today to George Verbarg, 26 bu at .45. The roads are some muddy but not deep. It has turned cool and will freeze hard.

Dec 15     I took up another load of corn to George Verbarg, 26 at .45. It is right cold day. It froze hard last night.

Dec 16     I am not doing very much today. I went up to Hugh Stewart's and F. H. Gannon's to see them about the Christmas tree. The day is cold.

Dec 17     Went to Prayer Meeting today. Emma and I went over, the ice bears up only in spots.

Dec 18     Went to old Vernon to court. Trying to tend to getting a deed from court of the estate of Abraham Gannon.

Dec 19     The same today at court. Got the business most fixed up. Allow to go on tomorrow.

Dec 20     This is a very wet morning. It pours the rain down till after noon. So I did not go to town today.

Dec 21     Went to Vernon today again and got the deed made out and the money paid over to myself. The frost is most out of the ground.

Dec 22     I am not doing very much today. It snows most of the day but it melts as fast as it falls. The ground is so wet and muddy at this time.

Dec 23     We are shucking corn out of shock today on the Sullivan land and Sam Spencer is helping us. It is cool and muddy. Went to church this evening.

Dec 24     Went to church today and after church went up to F. H. Gannon's. Mark Spalden(Spalding) and Olley were married today. The roads are muddy.

Dec 25     We went down to John James' today and spent the day. It is a very pleasant day overhead but muddy roads.

Dec 26     We are butchering our hogs for meat today and Sam Spencer is helping.

Dec 27     We are a cutting up our hogs this forenoon and salting them down. This afternoon went to shuck corn out of the shock at the piece at the lower ford.

Dec 28     The same at the corn in shock over the creek. It snowed some today but the ground is not froze, nor very cold.

Dec 29     We are at the corn and fodder and got it all done and in but two loads of fodder to hall on tomorrow.

Dec 30     We finished hauling in the rest of the fodder this morning. The ground is froze so it bears up a wagon. The surveyor is at Sebe Ewing's.

Dec 31     Went over to Prayer Meeting today. It is quite cool and this morning the road bears up in most places.

Jan 1     We went up to Mother's today.

Jan 5     I went to N. Vernon to mill and market. It is a chilly day and the sleet that fell on yesterday is still on.

Jan 6     We are today cutting down two dead sycamore trees, down by the creek. This afternoon hauled up some wood. It thaws some today.

Jan 7     We are at home today, all but Emma. She went to Prayer Meeting. Sebe Ewing and Lawrence are here.

Jan 8     I went over the creek to salt my cattle at the lower ford. Then I went to Marshal Bush's, then to the Widow Green's to try to buy some cattle.

Jan 9     Went to N. Vernon today and sent a dispatch for Charley.

Jan 10     Went this morning to N. Vernon and got the answer from Michigan from Charley. It snows some all day and stormy.

Jan 11     I am not doing much today. It is quite cold. I went over to Euler's and got my boots mended. It is quite cold.

Jan 12     I am not doing much of my thing today. It is tolerably cold today. The snow lays on yet but it is only 2 inches deep. A few are out with sleighs.

Jan 13     I went to Henry Young's to a sale today. It is a stormy day, snowy and blowy and is a very stormy day.

Jan 14     Went to Prayer Meeting today. Euler's came over here afternoon and stayed till night. The ice bears up on the creek.

Jan 23     I went up to old Vernon to court this morning. It is very cold but not so cold as it was on yesterday. There was no court today so I came home.

Jan 24     Went to court today again all day. It is warmer and thaws some and it looks like rain.

Jan 25     Went to court today again and I got through and got home at dark. It is colder and froze hard last night and is cold tonight.

Jan 26     I am not doing very much today. Choreing around. The creek is covered with ice all over at this time. It commenced to rain at 11 o'clock today.

Jan 27     We went down to the creek to cut some sycamore timber. It began to rain and we quit and it rained a part of the night.

Jan 28     We are at home. We could not get over the creek. It has raised from the rain last night and the ice is on yet. Hugh and Mother are here and Tildy.

Jan 29     I am chopping some sycamore wood. The ice in the creek is thawing out slowly.

Jan 30     Went to N. Vernon today to get some things. The roads are some muddy but the frost is not all out ;yet. It freezes some at night.

Jan 31     I am not doing much. It is cool weather. Freeze at night, thaw in daytime.

Feb 1     The same today as on yesterday.

Feb 2     We went over the creek to Sebe Ewing's with Hugh and Mother and Tildy and Olley on a visit. Tildy is out from Missouri on a visit.

Feb 3     We are not doing much. It rains most of the day and is muddy. This is 4 Saturdays wet and stormy. The ice has begun to move on the creek.

Feb 4     Rain hard last night and this morning. The creek is high. It is the highest it has been since last spring, level with the high banks.

Feb 5     I went down the creek to see the damage done by the water, not much damage to fence. Marsh's had some cattle drown in the creek on yesterday morning. At noon yesterday the highest.

Feb 6     Not doing anything. Hugh and Mother are here. F. H. Gannon, Mark and Olley and folks are here. It fell a sleet today and night.

Feb 7     It is very icy this morning and today it does not thaw.

Feb 8     The ice thaws some today. It is bad where I am not doing anything.

Feb 9     I am not doing much today. Sebe Ewing and Lis and Mrs. Ewing are here today. It is some muddy.

Feb 10     We went down to saw up some trees on the bottom by the creek. It set in to snow this afternoon and then it sleeted tonight.

Feb 11     This morning the ground is covered with sleet. Tildy is here, we are going up to Mother's today. We went.

Feb 12     I am today chopping wood down on the bottom on the elm top. It is a very pretty day. The ground is froze some but it is thawed some.

Feb 13     The same today till noon. This afternoon hauled up some wood to the house.

Feb 14     This morning it set in to rain and kept on till the creek got up high and tonight the creek is higher than it has been since last March. It ran through the fields one foot.

Feb 15     The creek is yet past ford. This morning it took off some fence. This time the boys went to Madison today to see the river. (NOTE: Ohio River crested at 66.3')

Feb 16     I am draining some water off of the wheat fields. The ground is very wet and soft. The day is warm. The warmest day this winter. The frost is about out.

Feb 17     We are fixing a pen to shut up our hogs to feed. We shut them today, 21 head. The weight is about 150 lbs at this time.

Feb 18     We are at home today. The creek has not been forded since the rain.

Feb 19     I, this morning, commenced to sow grass seed on the wheat on the lower wheat. I sowed till noon. This afternoon hung up the meat to smoke.

Feb 20     The same till noon at the grass seed. This afternoon Marshal Bush and his wife are here. The roads are very muddy.

Feb 21     Went over to Charley Hall's to see him about some wood. Then went over to Mrs. Green's and bought a heifer off her. This afternoon went to N. Vernon.

Feb 22     I am trimming some apple trees and choreing around.

Feb 23     The same today as on yesterday.

Feb 24     This morning it rains some till 9 o'clock then it faired away. I trimmed two or three apple trees then went to church. After church it set to rain.

Feb 25     We are at home all day. The creek is too high to ford this morning.

Feb 26     I am trimming apple trees today, all day. The boys are sawing wood out on the far corner next to Child' today. Finished sowing grass seed today.

Feb 27     I am choreing around today. This forenoon I sold Tom colt to a man, his name is Cane, for $125.

Feb 28     I am choreing around. This afternoon I went over the creek at the lower ford to fix up some places that the water tore down.

Mar 1     The same today, choreing around. Not doing very much. This is a very pretty day.

Mar 2     We, Maw and I, went to Vernon and to the Tunnel Mills. This is a very pretty day. The roads are drying off fast.

Mar 3     We are at work down on the bottom cutting some sycamore timber. We allow to clear off a corner that is left standing yet.

Mar 4     We are at home today. Tull Sullivan and wife are here.

Mar 5     I am chopping some wood out of the sycamore top today.

Mar 6     The same today. The weather is pleasant. Marshal Bush brought his fat hogs on this side of the creek this evening. He allowed to ship them tomorrow to the city.

Mar 7     We went over to Edward Marsh's today on a visit. The morning is very cool. The ground is froze this morning but thaws in the middle of the day. Our school is out today.

Mar 8     We are at work at the bottom clearing, sawing logs and cutting wood. The day is very nice.

Mar 9     We are at the same today again. It freezes at night and thaws in daytime.

Mar 10     We are choreing around. It is quite a stormy day. It snows in storms all day. We are having some young pigs tonight. It is very bad time, for it is cold.

Mar 11     We are at home today, all day.

Mar 12     We are at work at the clearing today burning brush and cutting some wood.

Mar 15     We are hauling out some wood out of the clearing. It is very cold and chilly day. The wind blows cold.

Mar 16     We are burning brush at the house off of the orchard this forenoon. This afternoon went up to Caiton's and got two loads of posts. The day is nice.

Mar 17     This forenoon we are rolling a few logs on the clearing. For the first time, Edy went up to Caiton's after a load of posts while I was taking care of the two sows' pigs.

Mar 18     We are at home today all day. It is very pretty day. We are minding the young pigs. Jim Swarthout came over.

Mar 19     We are at work at the cellar drain and leveling off the dirt that came out of the cellar. It snowed all forenoon and is a cool raw day.

Mar 20     We are at work at the clearing today. It is cool weather at this time.

Mar 21     Edy and I are at work at the clearing till noon. Then Edy went to town and I am trimming apple trees. It is cool raw weather.

Mar 22     Edy and I are clearing. Dick and Lawrence are cutting stove wood. Cold, it freezes hard enough at night to bear up and thaws in the day.

Mar 23     We are at wrok at the clearing. The weather is cool and snows some.

Mar 24     At the same till noon. This afternoon went to church, this is the first sermon on the new year time.

Mar 25     Went to church today. It is cool. Very cool weather.

Mar 26     We are at work at the clearing rolling out some logs in the creek.

Mar 28     We are hauling away the fence between the wheat fields and hauling it over farther toward the new ground. Allow to plant out a hedge.

Mar 29     Went to N. Vernon to market. Took in some potatoes and some bacon. Potatoes .60 per bu. Meat .12 per lb. Cool day.

Mar 30     Big rain last night and today the creek is high. We are floating out some logs out of the bottom. The water is not quite high enough to get out many.

Mar 31     Went to Hardenburg to mill. Maw went along. The roads are very muddy.

Apr 1     We are at home all day. It is cool weather yet and very cloudy for the last two weeks.

Apr 2     We are at work putting up the rail fence down on the bottom where we allow to have a hedge fence planted through the plowed field. Dick went away today.

Apr 3     We are repairing some board fence through the field from the road to the creek and out at the Ewing fence.

Apr 4     We are rolling logs in the creek today and burning some. It is a pretty day and it is getting warmer.

Apr 5     We are at the same today.

Apr 6     This is a rainy day by showers all day and some tonight.

Apr 7     I went to Vernon and paid one half of my tax. It is the first half, $35.41. The creek is up right smart from the rain that fell this afternoon. I trimmed some apple trees.

Apr 8     We are at home today till afternoon. Maw and Emma went up to Young's, Charles Young.

Apr 9     Work at the clearing this forenoon. This afternoon finished the leveling off the cellar dirt at the house, then sowed it to grass seed.

Apr 10     We are at work hauling out some manure on the orchard for the potatoes.

Apr 11     We are at work at the road fence, setting it over to have it ready for the hedge. It is finished today.

Apr 12     We are at work at the logs some today.

Apr 13     Went to the Tunnel Mills today and got a lot of feed ground for the horses and hogs. We went to old Vernon also.

Apr 14     We are at work at plowing the potato patch and the garden. Then planted some potatoes for the first and some oats in the orchard.

Apr 15     We are at home today. It is rainy this morning.

Apr 16     We are at work at the logs on the clearing. Cutting some and fixing to have a rolling on tomorrow. Weather nice.

Apr 17     We have hands to help to roll logs today and got done. Very nice day.

Apr 18     We, this forenoon, sowed the little strip of oats on the bottom and set the log heaps on fire. This afternoon went to plowing for corn for the first time.

May 1     The boys are over the creek plowing and I am trying to burn some log heaps up till 3 o'clock when I went over to them and I plowed till we got done then.

May 2     We are on the lease land plowing. It is nice weather. I plowed the hedge rows this afternoon.

May 4     We are still plowing for corn. The men came on today to set the hedge.

May 17     We are planting some more corn on the new bottom piece this forenoon. This afternoon we are taking off the stalks over at Jerrie's.

May 18     We went to plant corn again on the new bottom. We will finish the new ground at noon tomorrow.

May 19     We are at the planting the new ground and got it done at noon. Then went over the creek at Jerrie's. We planted the largest piece, the rest is not ready. Good rain tonight.

May 20     We are at home today, all day. Edy went to Sunday School. It rains some yet this morning and by spells today.

May 21     We are not at work. It is a very rainy day, all day. It rains very slowly and it rained all last night.

May 22     Went to N. Vernon to mill and market. Took in some wheat to sell too. Wheat is only 1.00 per bushel. The road is muddy. The ground is wet. The creek is up.

May 23     This forenoon we are over the creek cutting down some trees and some willows along the creek bank. This afternoon went to N. Vernon with wheat.

May 24     We are over the creek breaking up the little corner at the church. We got all done and finished planting for this year if it comes up well. I was cutting down willows over there.

May 25     I went to N. Vernon with a load of wheat. Wheat is only 1.00. Took 27 bushels this afternoon. We plowed our potatoes and hoed them.

May 26     I am this forenoon, a deadening the sycamore trees that are in the corn field. This afternoon went to church. The boys went to N. Vernon to see the show. No show.

May 27     Went to church today. It rained some this evening after church.

May 28     We are at work at the corn on the lease land this forenoon. Harrowing for the first time, the corn is small. We quit at noon and went hunting this afternoon.

May 29     It rained hard last night and this morning. The creek is very high.

May 30     We are sawing some logs this forenoon. This afternoon went over to Sebe Ewing's and hauled a load of wood from Charley Hall's.

May 31     The ground is too wet yet to plow corn. We are choreing some.

Jun 1     We are harrowing corn on the lease land at the lower end of the sand. It is only fit there. We got the house insured today.

Jun 2     Went over the creek at the lower ford to harrow, it is dry enough.

Jun 3     We are at Frank R. Gannon's today. It is some cool today.

Aug 2     Went to N. Vernon with a load of corn. Took it to Tom Spand. 28 bu at .50, 14.00.

Aug 3     The boys took to N. Vernon two loads of corn to (Pleasant) Carney McGanon's mill at .50 per bu. I am this forenoon helping to clear off the ground to hold church on.

Aug 4     I am helping Marsh's to thrash. It is a very nice day and cool.

Aug 5     We are at home today, all day.

Aug 6     I went over to help Marsh's to finish thrashing. They thrashed their oats and got done at noon. Then went to Euler's.

Aug 7     We are helping Euler's to finish this morning, then went to Giles and got his done. Then went and thrashed out Tull's wheat.

Aug 8     We are hauling out some manure today so we can get it out of the way to thrash.

Aug 9     Went to the fair today. It is a very nice day.

Aug 10     I and Edy are hauling out manure and Lawrence has gone to Fair.

Aug 11     We are hauling out manure and got it out so we are ready to thrash next week. The machine is to be here. This is very dry weather.

Aug 15     Went up to help Schetgen's to thrash this morning. Got done and then went to Sebe Ewing's and got his done.

Aug 16     Went to N. Vernon and took up some chairs to repair.

Aug 17     We are choreing around this forenoon. This afternoon we hauled out some more manure. The weather is very dry, no rain for a long time. The corn is cut short some now if it does rain some.

Aug 18     We hauled out of the barnyard all of the manure at noon. This afternoon hauled some dirt from the ford to fix the creek bank. Weather very dry.

Aug 19     We are at home today, most of the day. We went to the funeral of Charley Hall's wife, she was buried today.

Aug 20     We are mowing down weeds around the fences.

Aug 21     We took up a load of corn to old Vernon to Strous. I sold him one hundred bushels at .50 per bu., delivered.

Aug 22     The boys took up another load of corn to this man this morning. This afternoon I went to help Thompson Childs to thrash. Big rain today and tonight.

Aug 23     I went to help Otis to thrash his wheat and oats. He got it all done before noon. We came home and began to break up for wheat for the first this season.

Aug 24     We are breaking up for wheat today. The ground is not quite wet enough yet but there was a good rain.

Aug 25     We are breaking up till noon. This afternoon went to church.

Aug 27     We are plowing today. The ground is getting dry for breaking. We have only about 4 acres broke yet. We will not break anymore this week.

Aug 28     I took up a load of corn to Vernon today and brought home our chairs from N. Vernon that we got repaired. Our Association commences tomorrow.

Aug 29     I went up to N. Vernon and brought down four persons to the Association. It commenced this morning at 10 o'clock. We had 22 persons to come home with us.

Aug 30     Went to church today and tonight again. The weather is quite dry again, need rain.

Aug 31     Went to church today. It broke up at noon and the people all went home.

Sep 1     I took up 2 loads of corn to town today for Streek and one load to New at .50 per bu.

Sep 2     We are at home today, all day. Maw went to the Burg, her and Edy and Mary Barnes.

Sep 3     I went to plowing again but it is very dry yet. It rained a little shower last night.

Sep 13     We, all of us, went to Sunday School picnic at Lewis Law's grove today. It is a very warm day and it is very dry weather yet. Rain is needed very bad at this time.

Sep 14     We are hauling gravel on the road today. Edy and I all day. Very dry and dusty.

Sep 15     Went to the Harvest Home at Hardenburg today. There was a great many people there. Very dry. Hugh and I traded horses today there on the ground.

Oct 1     We this forenoon gathered a load of corn more to feed the hogs. This afternoon we thrashed out our beans.

Oct 2     I plowed some more today. There was a very nice rain last night. Not enough, only to wet that was broke up. It is in nice order to sow.

Oct 3     We are plowing this forenoon. This afternoon I harrowed some to drill on tomorrow. It harrows very nice.

Oct 4     We drilled in wheat today, all day for the first this year. Another good rain tonight.

Oct 9     We went over the creek at the lower ford to sow wheat among the corn shocks. We got done all the wheat on this piece. We allowed to sow number of bushels on this piece, 4.

Oct 10     We finished sowing wheat today for the year on the Sullivan land on the little piece that Euler has in corn. No. of bushels, 1 ½.

Oct 11     We went to N. Vernon to market. The weather is very nice and warm at this time. The people are not all done sowing wheat yet. What haven't done are at work at it. Good warm night.

Oct 12     We are choreing around this forenoon putting away the farm tools and other things. This afternoon went over to Hardenburg to sell the hay.

Oct 13     Went to John Wrape's to see him about the hay, he did not want to buy so Jack Hendrick's is to take the hay at $5 per ton, old and new delivered at the first.

Oct 14     We are at home to day, all day. This is a cool day.

Oct 15     We commenced to haul off our hay to J. Hendrick at $5 a ton.

Nov 22     Went to N. Vernon and took up a load of corn and sold it to McGannon for .40 per bu. Then I brought home the flour from the mill that I took on Tuesday.

Nov 23     We are choreing around. This afternoon went to Hardenburg and got the money off J. Kendrick on what hay I had hauled him. The ground is very wet at this time.

Nov 24     I went to N. Vernon today and went on the bond for a deed for Jake Schetgen. I also sent to Charley Gibbs one hundred dollars to Michigan by post office order.

Nov 25     I went to church today but there was no preacher come. Then we went to Robbins and stayed the evening.

Nov 26     We started to gather corn this morning but the rain came on and we came back to the house.

Nov 27     We gathered some in shock and gathered Robbins a load at 25 bu.

Nov 28     We got a load over the creek for Robbins this morning and got it all done and brought it home with us. Then we got another load off the new ground.

Nov 29     We are gathering corn on the new bottom off the mill land. Robbins took his last load off today. That made 100 bu that he bought at .40 bu.

Nov 30     Gathering corn today. Again Dell is helping us. We are most done. The new and old bottom field.

Dec 1     We are gathering corn the most of the day. This is a very pretty day. We got all the corn out of the new bottom next to the old mill. This is the day of Schetgen's sale. I went up awhile.

Dec 2     We are at home today. Very pretty day.

Dec 3     We are gathering corn. Lawrence, Edy and I. Whitmore delivered the books to me today. Eaton is here and we gathered a load of corn over the creek at the lower ford and took it to him at 4 o'clock.

Dec 4     We are a shucking corn over the creek on the stalk at the lower ford and got it done on the stalk.

Dec 5     We are shucking corn on the old and new ground and got it done today, all of it.

Dec 6     We are hauling up wood today to burn from Schetgen's woods. Very pretty weather.

Dec 13     This forenoon I am helping to carry the chain. The surveyor is on the bottom measuring off a piece on the little bottom on L.Lattimore for McMannon. Rain this afternoon.

Dec 14     I am choreing around. Maw and Alley(Olley?), Rowdebush and Edy went to the Burg. Cool chilly day.

Dec 15     I am today fixing up a place for the little calves. It is quite a cool day. Maw and Edy went over to Ewing's.

Dec 16     We are at home all day. It has snowed and stormed all day long and tonight it is still stormy and quite cold. This is the first his fall or winter that has been.

Dec 17     I am not doing much today. It is snowy and cold.

Dec 18     We are hauling up some wood on the sled today. It is right nice sleighing at this time.

Dec 19     We went to N. Vernon today to mill and market. It is very nice sleighing. We went in the sled.

Dec 20     I am not doing much today. There is a deep snow on and it is very nice weitner weather at this time.

Dec 21     We went up to Mother's today. It is very nice sleighing. It is as nice as I ever saw. Not very cold only cold enough to keep the snow on.

Dec 22     We went to church today. It is very blustery day. It set in to snow and kept on till in the night when it began to sleet and rain.

Dec 23     We went to church today. It sleeted and rained and is a very bad day and kept on rain most of the night and it has thawed off a good deal of the snow.

Dec 24     This morning the creek is big. It is the highest it has been since last winter. I am not doing very much today.

Dec 25     We are at home all day, all of us. It is a very bad time to get about. Snow and mud and water on the roads and fields.

Dec 26     We are butchering our hogs for meat and Sam Spencer is helping. It is a very nice day. It thaws some. The old snow is softening and thaws and it rained before tomorrow morning.

Dec 27     We cut up the hogs this morning and salted them down. Done at noon. It has turned cold since morning and it is freezing all day.

Dec 28     We are sawing stove wood on Marsh's land. Some of the timber that the storm blew down. It is very nice weather. It freezes at night and thaws in day. There is some snow on yet.

Dec 29     We are at the same, cutting wood. It is a very nice day.

Dec 30     We are at home all day. It is very dark and rains part of the day and thaws. The snow is melting off too and the creek is rising now past ford.

Dec 31     I am not doing very much choreing around. It has been raining this morning and most of the forenoon and there is some of the old snow on yet but it is still thawing yet and the creek is past ford. The ground is very sloppy and bad to get about.
