Jan 1 We went over to Emmie's, all of us and Dick Gibbs is here now. Day is nice.
Jan 2 We shucked corn out of shock and finished all of the crop of this last year. Day is dark and cloudy with a little rain falling.
Jan 3 We helped Emmie to butcher her hogs. Day is cold with little snow on the ground.
Jan 4 I am not doing much. Joe and Pammy are helping Emmie to finish up the butchering work. Cold today.
Jan 5 Joe is hauling gravel up to the barn at the cow stable so it won't be so muddy. Ground thaws.
Jan 6 Joe and Albert are hauling in fodder and stacking it. Got it all done now.
Jan 7 We are not doing anything much but the chores. Day is some stormy and some snow on.
Jan 8 We are at home and the snow is about 2 inches and right cold.
Jan 9 We are not doing much work. It is stormy and snow.
Jan 10 The same today. It is right cold and we are not doing much.
Jan 11 We are not doing much. It rained last night and sleeted on the snow and it is slick. Rain is still falling.
Jan 12 We are not doing much but the chores.
Jan 13 The same as above, not doing much. Some cold.
Jan 14 Joe is hauling out manure on the wheat till noon. This afternoon went down to the schoolhouse to vote for supervisor. It is quite a cold day.
Jan 15 I went to church. Day is right cold. This is the second trip for Brotehr Nicholson on this year. This day I paid five dollars on the first month, makes $6.00 this date.
Jan 16 We are not doing. Emmie and folks, Dick Gibbs are here. Albert Bertram and Mrs. Bertram are here.
Jan 17 Joe is hauling out manure from stable to the orchard. Day is nice.
Jan 18 I and Joe went to N. Vernon took up a load of corn, got .42/bu. Got bran and shorts for it. Day is cloudy and damp.
Jan 19 Joe hauled some rock from Tom Casting's quarry, then hauled some gravel to the barnyard. Day is dark and cloudy.
Jan 20 We took to Four Corners the black Jersey cow and calf to Love at Seymour, then we brought home a load of posts of Garret's. Day is cool and dark.
Jan 21 Joe is hauling out manure on the orchard this forenoon. This afternoon hauling gravel. Dark day, thaws some.
Jan 22 We are at home and Joe Stewart and Sadie and Dick is here. Day is cool and cloudy.
Jan 23 We are choreing some about the barn, repairing some. Michael Garrett died this or yesterday morning.
Jan 24 The same as above, not doing anything but the chores. Day is some cold and stormy.
Jan 25 The same today, not doing anything but the chores. It is cold.
Jan 26 We are grinding corn and cob to feed the cattle. It is a very nice day today and Dick is helping some.
Jan 27 Not doing much. Joe went to N. Vernon for Doc Mitchel to come down, Pammy is sick. Then he hauled out 2 loads of manure out of stable. Nice day.
Jan 28 Joe took up a load of corn to Bob Wrape, got .42/bu. Right nice day.
Jan 29 We are at home all day. Pammy is better today. Day is right cold.
Jan 30 We are choreing some around the barn. Joe is fixing the shed at the barn. It is right cool.
Jan 31 We are not doing but very little. Joe hauled out 2 loads of manure on wheat. The ground is froze to bear but not very cold with spots of snow on.
Feb 1 We are not doing anything but the chores. Fred Young is here and the day is some cold and cloudy, most of the day.
Feb 2 We are at the same today as above but the day is cold and bright sun shine.
Feb 3 We are only choreing. Day is some cold but no snow on.
Feb 4 Joe and Maw went to N. Vernon. I am only choreing some. Day is some cold.
Feb 5 We are at home and Lawrence and folks are all here today. It snowed most of the day.
Feb 6 We, Joe and Dick went down at the lower part of Indian Creek to saw down some maple trees for wood. Snow is on 3" deep.
Feb 7 We sawed and hauled up some of the maple logs we cut yesterday on the sled. It is coldest morning this winter but a very pleasant day.
Feb 8 We are not doing anything but the chores. It is a raining all day and sleet. Joe and Pammy went to P. Bertram's.
Feb 9 Today is about the same. Snow is laying on and ice on the ground and slick to get around. Joe took Dick to N. Vernon to Joe's. Day is cloudy.
Feb 10 Nothing much done. Weather is some cold.
Feb 11 The same today as on yesterday. Joe is cuttings some wood at Indian Creek. Cloudy day, don't thaw. Ground is very icy for a day or two.
Feb 12 We are at home all day, could not get over to church. It rained this morning and then set in to snow and is cold.
Feb 13 Nothing done today. Day is cold, the coldest day this winter with the ground covered with snow and ice.
Feb 14 The same as on yesterday. Day is not quite so cold today as on yesterday.
Feb 15 The same old thing, the weather is still cold and snow and ice and bad to get around now. Dick is still here yet.
Feb 16 The same continued. Snow is still on and ice and not quite so cold today. Some cloudy.
Feb 17 We are at the same, not doing anything but the chores. Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon.
Feb 18 Joe cut some wood this forenoon. This afternoon hauled up a load of corn to the hog house, then 2 loads of wood from Indian Creek. It thaws some today.
Feb 19 We are at home and the day is not very cold. Ground is froze yet.
Feb 20 Joe hauled out manure out of stables on the wheat. The ground is froze but is thawing some.
Feb 21 I and Joe went to N. Vernon, took a load of corn to Hull Feed Store, .43/bu. Thaws some.
Feb 22 I and Joe went to the sale of Elgin Wilson's. The day is right cool, the ground has not thawed much.
Feb 23 We both of us went to the sale of El's acres today. The ground is thawing some every day. Freezes some at night. The ice is still on the creek, broke in some places.
Feb 24 Joe and Dick are hauling up some limbs for wood from Indian Creek this morning. The ground is a little frozen but not all thawed out yet.
Feb 25 Not doing very much. It is cloudy day and sleeted some this morning. Ground is thawing some every day a little. Joe piled up some new stove wood in the wood house and choreing.
Feb 26 I and Maw are at home all day. Joe and Pammy went over to P. Bertram's. The day is very nice but is muddy.
Feb 27 We or I are not doing but very little. Joe sawed some stove wood this forenoon. This afternoon he and Billy Boner sawed wood here at the house. It snowed this morning and melted this evening.
Feb 28 I and Joe went to the sale of Jim Otis'. I bought a barrel of vinegar and a little jug of oil…$3.05. Joe split up stove wood when we got home. Day is right nice.
Mar 1 I went to N. Vernon, took Bill horse up to the veterinary to get medicine but he was not there, so I came home. Joe is at work at Emmie's building a corn house. Day is some chilly.
Mar 2 I and Dick went to N. Vernon after a load of coal, got it. Joe is over to Emmie's yet at work. Day is right nice.
Mar 3 I am not doing much but the chores. Joe got done at noon at Emmie's then went to N. Vernon. I went up to Jim Earl's to see about buying a cow but did not get one. Day is nice and warm.
Mar 4 I went to N. Vernon, took Bill horse, doctored for the fistula. Jim Earl weighted 19 shoats, sold to Web Spencer.
Mar 5 I and Maw are at home all day and Dick. Joe and Pammy went to the Four Corners to church, came home then went to P. Bertram's. Day is nice.
Mar 6 Joe is sawing wood at the lower part of Indian Creek and Billy Boner is helping today. I am choreing some. Day is dark and cloudy.
Mar 7 Nothing done but the chores, some little fixing around. It rained all forenoon and cloudy.
Mar 8 About the same today, only Joe is doing work. Most of the day it rained till noon today. Again I took Bill horse to N. Vernon to the doctor to get medicine on it.
Mar 9 Joe went to the sale at Kendrick. Ground corn for the cattle this morning.
Mar 10 We are doing some chore work, put in some straw in barn. Hauled in some corn to feed the hogs. Weighed the hogs, put in some tile across the road. Sowed some grass seed.
Mar 11 Joe is putting in wood in the wood house this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon and Pammy & I went over to church. Mr. George Euler died this morning. I sowed some grass seed down on the bottom below Forest's house.
Mar 12 We went to church. Day is nice.
Mar 13 We went to the funeral of Mr. Euler, he was buried today. Joe hauled up stove wood from Indian Creek. Day is nice.
Mar 14 I went to N. Vernon, took Bill horse to get some more medicine. Joe took up a load of wheat, got $1.09/bu. Joe went to Seymour tonight. Day is nice.
Mar 15 Joe took a load of wheat today at the same price, came home and split wood. Day is nice and warm.
Mar 16 We are choreing some. Weather is nice.
Mar 17 We, I am trimming some apple trees. Joe is putting in some tile in the corn of the orchard. Day is nice.
Mar 18 We are a repairing some fence at the hog house and this afternoon I and Maw went to N. Vernon. Dark day and threatens rain all day.
Mar 19 We are at home. Emmie, Edy and folks are here this afternoon and Fisher's folks are here too. Day is dark.
Mar 20 Joe is repairing fence at barn. I went to N. Vernon this morning to get medicine for Bill horse. Came home then went to James Gahn's to see his wife, she is sick.
Mar 21 Joe went to help Owen Newen to raise his barn. I am trimming some locust trees a part of the day. It is cloudy.
Mar 22 I trimmed some apple trees, got done trimming the orchard at noon, then I wnt over to Hayden and brought over Sarah Swarthout over. Joe took off wire between Emmie and I this afternoon. Day is right nice.
Mar 23 Joe is plowing for Emmie for oats. I am choreing some. Weather nice.
Mar 24 The same today at the plowing. I am choreing setting out locust. Weather nice.
Mar 25 The same as above, plowing for Emmie, 3 days. Weather nice.
Mar 26 We are at home. Day is nice.
Mar 27 I went to N. Vernon took up a load of corn then went to Vernon and paid the taxes on land. Tax is $243. Dick Gibbs started to Buffalo today. Day is very nice. Sarah Swarthout is here for a few days.
Mar 28 We plowed the garden and some in the orchard for potatoes. Ground is dry enough to work, nice. Day is warm and nice.
Mar 29 I sowed some of the Long Bottom to clover this morning. This afternoon fixed some of the garden and planted some potatoes. It set in to rain and we quit.
Mar 30 I and Joe are fixing some breaks in tile drain and put in 10 more in at the mouth at the creek. Day is very nice after the rain yesterday.
Mar 31 Joe and I took out some 4 inch tile out of the old drain below Henry Burgmyer's this forenoon. This afternoon Joe kept on at tile. I planted some potatoes. Day is warm.
Apr 1 I and Maw went to N. Vernon to make a deed to Edward Stewart of the Liew Lattimore 80 acres for the sum of $3,500 dollars. Weather is very nice.
Apr 2 We are at home, Maw and I. Joe and Pammy went to Four Corners to church, then to P. Bertram's. John James and Beck are here. Day is nice.
Apr 3 I finished sowing the Long Bottom to clover and the part of that has no stalks on below the levy. It set to rain some and the wind blew too hard so I quit and planted some potatoes. Joe is taking out tile.
Apr 4 I and John James went to old Vernon this forenoon to see about a bridge. This afternoon planted potatoes in the orchard. Joe is at the tile. Day is right nice but cool. The assessor was here today.
Apr 5 I finished sowing clover seed at noon, then Joe broke stalks on this piece. It is damp.
Apr 6 I am cutting off some stalks that the pile don't mash over. It rained some last night and the ground is damp. Joe is at the tile now. Cloudy and snowed some. Sarah Swarthout left.
Apr 7 I and Maw went to N. Vernon this morning. This afternoon Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon. Day is quite cool with wind.
Apr 8 We ground corn this forenoon to feed the cattle. This afternoon Joe finished breaking stubs out of the wheat. I and Maw went to church. Day has been nice.
Apr 9 We went to church. Mrs. John was buried today. Day is nice.
Apr 10 I cut some corn stubs on wheat this forenoon. Joe but a few stalks on the Betsy Bottom then it rained at 3 o'clock and we quit.
Apr 11 we did some chores, took out some old fence posts out on the line between Emmie and I. Set up some rails fixed some fence, it rained by showers all day.
Apr 12 Joe went to Hillerman's sale. I cut stubs on wheat, sold the surrey to Mrs. Houseburger. $60.00.
Apr 13 Joe is hauling out manure out of the stables to the field for corn. I am cutting stubs on whet. Day is nice.
Apr 14 The same as above, a little sprinkle of rain this morning. The rest of the day is nice.
Apr 15 I and Maw went to N. Vernon this forenoon. Joe is dragging down some weeds and cut some stalks this afternoon. Day is right cool.
Apr 16 We are at home and Emmie, Edy and folks are here. Day is quite cool.
Apr 17 Joe is cutting stalks. I am choreing some, sprayed some apple trees. John James got hurt Saturday coming from town. Cool weather for 3 days.
Apr 18 We ground corn for feed for the cattle this forenoon. This afternoon Joe shut up the tile drains where they were open and piled up some tile that was out. Day is nice.
Apr 19 Began to plow for corn for the first this morning. This afternoon Joe finished cutting stalks on corn ground. I raked some up this afternoon. Day nice, cool.
Apr 20 Joe is plowing for corn on the old Sullivan Bottom. Wind blew hard all day but dried off fast. I went down to Human's this afternoon.
Apr 21 Choreing today, it rained a big rain this morning and it is too wet to plow. We repaired some fence this forenoon. Joe went to town this afternoon.
Apr 22 Joe and Henry Burgmeyer are putting in tile below Henry's. Day is right nice.
Apr 23 We are at home. Maw is still chilling some every few days. Sadie is out here for a day or two, went home this evening. Day is nice.
Apr 24 Joe is putting in some tile, got it done all for this spring. We put the calves out to pasture. Ground is most too wet to plow but is drying off fast.
Apr 25 Joe is plowng on the Betsy Bottom. It is most too wet anywhere else to work. It is raining a little sprinkle all day and damp, cloudy day.
Apr 26 The same today as on yesterday, some rain and cloudy.
Apr 27 Joe is still plowing. Got the stalk part of the Betsy Bottom done this morning. Then came up and plowed on the 24 acre piece. Day is right nice.
Apr 28 The same as yesterday at the plowing and the day is nice.
Apr 29 We are choreing this forenoon. We ground some corn for feed, weighed some hay for Emma. This afternoon I went to N. Vernon. Joe to Human's. Day is right nice since the rain. Ethel Sullivan married on the 26th.
Apr 30 We went over to Emmie's, I and Maw. Joe and Pammy went to Bertram's, then to N. Vernon to church. Day has been nice.
May 1 Joe is plowing but plenty wet. I and Sam Young went up to Vernon this forenoon to see the commissioners about a bridge. Day is nice but cool.
May 2 The same at the plows and the weather nice.
May 3 Same at the plowing. I am only choreing. Weather is nice.
May 4 Joe plowed till 3 o'clock when the rain came on and quit for the day.
May 5 I and Maw went to town. Joe went with the wagon to mill. Ground is wet since the rain.
May 6 Choreing some, the ground is wet from the rain last night. Too wet to plow.
May 7 I and Maw are at home. Joe and Pammy went to church at Four Corners, then to Baker's. Day is right nice.
May 8 Joe harrowed on the Betsy Bottom this forenoon. This afternoon planted the first corn of this year. It rained at 4 o'clock and stopped.
May 9 Joe is hauling out manure from stables to corn ground. I am shelling seed corn but the ground is too wt to plant now but will soon do if it doesn't rain more.
May 10 Big rain this morning and the ground is very wet and the creek is full banks. We are not doing much, shelling a little seed corn.
May 11 The same today, lots of rain fell in showers through the day and tonight it rained lots more. Got out the telephone poles.
May 12 We are not doing much. There was a big rain this morning and the creek is big.
May 13 The same, not doing much work. The creek has gone down but is past ford yet. Joe went to Human's, took Cate.
May 14 We are at home, all of us till noon then Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon this afternoon. Day is cloudy with wind and some rain by showers.
May 15 Not much doing. The ground is wet, the water is in places over the field. We drained off some at the ford out of the Betsy Bottom.
May 16 Joe is working on the new road. Put in some culverts and then plowed and scraped it. Rained a little.
May 17 The same as yesterday, working the road. It is too wet to plow or to work on ground. Day is cool with high wind.
May 18 Choreing, got 5 more telephone poles. Took off some wire that ws drifted on the bottom at the levy at Indian Creek. Day is some cool.
May 19 I painted the porch roof this forenoon. This afternoon we painted the shed of the barn, the felt roof. No rain today.
May 20 I plowed the potatoes. Joe cultivated the garden, planted some watermelons. This afternoon Joe went to plow on the clover on the Betsy Bottom field. I and Maw went to town. Day is right nice.
May 21 I and Maw went over to Lawrence's. Day is right nice.
May 22 Joe is plowing the Betsy Bottom field where the clover is. Weather is nice now. Ground is drying off fast.
May 23 We took off our hogs to Lovett to Mornen to ship. The morning is cool and nice.
May 24 Still at the plowing and the weather is nice.
May 25 Plowed a little this morning, then the rain came. No more plowed today. Chored some, wet time, too wet in low bottom yet.
May 26 Joe went to Human's this morning with Lecty, mare. This afternoon plowed on some, as most done this field of the Betsy Bottom. None planted only the few rows that is flooded under on the same field.
May 27 Still plowing till noon, got the Betsy Bottom field done then went to harrow on where the water was over.
May 28 We are home. Joe went to church and Pammy to Four Corners. I and Maw went out as far as to Andy Hailey's to the new pike and around to near N. Vernon for a ride out. Day is nice.
May 29 Joe planed corn on the Betsy Bottom next to creek till noon. Then it rained a big rain and made it too wet for several days. This is all the corn we have planted at this time.
May 30 I went to N. Vernon to mill, got some shingles to cover the chicken house and some more paint to finish the felt roof. Joe and Pammy went to town in the buggy. It rained a good bit at about 3 o'clock. It is very wet time. We cannot plant.
May 31 We put on a new roof on the chicken house. It is a wet time, we can not plow or plant corn. It did not rain any today.
Jun 1 We finished the house this morning. Joe went to harrow on the Betsy Bottom field on this side of the field and it is plenty wet too. The day is nice today.
Jun 2 The same till noon, then this afternoon planted the rest of the Betsy Bottom. It is plenty wet yet. Day is nice overhead.
Jun 3 Joe is plowing some on the old Sullivan Bottom where the creek mudded it. It is most too wet yet to work in. Harrowed some this afternoon with 4 horses. Day is nice.
Jun 4 We are at home all day. Day nice.
Jun 5 Joe is harrowing on the old Sullivan Bottom with 4 horses, it is hard. I and Maw went to N. Vernon this afternoon. Day is nice.
Jun 6 Joe began to plant some on the old Bottom. It is not all harrowed yet. Day is right nice.
Jun 7 Joe is harrowing and planting on this field and it is most planted up to the unbroken ground.
Jun 8 The same today and began to break this afternoon on same piece.
Jun 9 I trimmed the hedge fence first time. Joe is plowing and planted some. Edy and Hall is helping to plow, we will get done tomorrow planting if the day is fair. Nice today.
Jun 10 Joe finished breaking for corn and harrowing at noon and went out to finish planting when it set in to rain and it rained a big rain.
Jun 11 We went to church then went over tonight, this is Children's Night. It has been a nice day.
Jun 12 Joe finished planting corn for this year.
Jun 13 we began to plow corn on the Betsy Bottom and I have been replanting. Day is nice but warm.
Jun 14 Joe plowed corn till noon on the Betsy Bottom. This afternoon took up a load of corn to N. Vernon mill. Day nice and warm.
Jun 15 Joe took 2 loads of corn to town, one to Wrape, one to Hull. I replanted corn on the Betsy Bottom field. It rains some most of the day in showers.
Jun 16 Hauled 2 more loads to Hull today. I replanted corn, nice day but it is warm.
Jun 17 Joe took 1 load of corn to Bob Wrape this morning. This afternoon plowed corn. Day is very warm.
Jun 18 We are at home, I and Maw. Joe and Pammy went to P. Bertram's. Day is very warm.
Jun 19 Joe plowed corn this forenoon. This afternoon began to cut whet on the 15 Acre piece.
Jun 20 We cut out some more today until the rain came on and stopped us. Very warm day.
Jun 21 It is wet and muddy and the creek is up some. I went over to cut weeds out of the locust and I had to come around home. We cut wheat this afternoon.
Jun 22 We cut wheat all day, got most done. Cooler weather.
Jun 23 Finished cutting wheat this morning, then it rained some. Joe plowed corn awhile this morning. Ground wet, dark day, damp all day.
Jun 24 I and Joe took up a load of corn to Bob Wrape. It is too wet to plow corn today but he day is nice and is drying.
Jun 25 We are at home all day. Day is very nice.
Jun 26 Joe is plowing corn on the Betsy Bottom, second time. Rest of the corn has not been plowed yet. Ground is all right at this time.
Jun 27 We began to plow corn on the 24 Acre piece below the road for the first time. Weather is nice.
Jun 28 The same today, at the same piece. I am hoeing out weeds. Weather nice.
Jun 29 The same as above, weather nice.
Jun 30 The same and got over this field once. Weather is nice all week.
Jul 1 We are choreing this forenoon. This afternoon I took a load of corn and the lst of the wheat to N. Vernon mill. Day is nice.
Jul 2 I and Maw are at home. Joe and Pammy went to P. Bertram's. Day nice.
Jul 3 We chored some, picked some blackberries, brought down some cattle from Edy's place. This afternoon I took a load of corn to N. Vernon mill. Joe picked berries. Day nice.
Jul 4 Went out to Lovett to take out 5 head of cattle to Henry Horsehamer at 4 cents a pound. Got home before 10 o'clock then Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon. Day right nice.
Jul 5 Joe began to plow corn on the Betsy Bottom, third time. I went up to Dave Childs' to help to thrash but the machine did not get there.
Jul 6 I helped Dave Childs to thrash wheat till 2 o'clock when the rain came and stopped us. Joe is plowing corn till it rained.
Jul 7 I went to Lovett this forenoon to get my dog. This afternoon helped Dave to finish his wheat. Some cloudy with sprinkles.
Jul 8 Joe plowed corn. I went over to church. It is damp weather now, bad for thrashing wheat.
Jul 9 I and Maw went to John James' and there was a big rain fell and made the ground wet. It is bad for thrashing.
Jul 10 I and Joe trimmed hedge this forenoon. This afternoon helped Lawrence to thrash wheat. It is damp weather now.
Jul 11 We fixed the bridge to the barn, hauled in clay. It rained a shower.
Jul 12 We helped Emmie to thrash wheat. It rained a shower this evening.
Jul 13 We helped Emmie this forenoon. This afternoon helped to thrash at Charley Woodward's. A little rain fell but very little.
Jul 14 Joe went to help Jim Marsh to thrash. I am at home, day warm.
Jul 15 Joe is plowing corn. I am hoeing out weeds this forenoon. This afternoon I and Maw went to N. Vernon. Day warm.
Jul 16 We are at home all day. Weather is warm.
Jul 17 I went over to P. Bertram's to help him thrash wheat this forenoon. This afternoon hoed weeds out of corn. Day is very warm.
Jul 18 Joe is plowing corn and I am cutting out weeds and suckers out of the corn. Weather is very warm.
Jul 19 The same as above till noon. We put up hay this afternoon. Very warm.
Jul 20 We worked in the corn hoeing till noon and Nick Keller is helping. We put up some hay afternoon, 2 loads then it rained a big rain and stopped us. We got all the corn plowed over for this year this morning.
Jul 21 We are choreing some this forenoon, it is some rainy. This afternoon Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon.
Jul 22 Joe took up a load of corn to N. Vernon at the mill. This afternoon put up some hay that got wet on Thursday. It is cloudy most of the forenoon. This afternoon the sun shines out so as to dry off the hay.
Jul 23 I and Maw are at home all day. The day is cloudy and cool and it rained a big rain. Joe and Pammy went to church.
Jul 24 I took up a load of corn to N. Vernon mill. Joe mowed some grass. We put it up this evening. Day is right fair, cool.
Jul 25 I took up 6 hogs to N. Vernon to Nobe this morning. Joe finished mowing grass at noon. We finished up the hay this afternoon.
Jul 26 I hauled 2 loads of corn to Ebert's mill. Joe is mowing on Edy's.
Jul 27 We went to N. Vernon to the Fair, all of us.
Jul 28 We took up 2 loads of corn to N. Vernon, one to Hull, one to Ebert's, one more this afternoon to mill. Joe is at his hay below.
Jul 29 We took 2 loads of corn to N. Vernon one to Hull. Joe is at the hay. I took up a load this afternoon to the mill. Took up Letty mare, sold her this morning.
Jul 30 I and Maw are at home all day. Joe and Pammy went over to P. Bertram's this afternoon. Day is nice.
Jul 31 I hauled a load of corn to the mill at N. Vernon this forenoon. Joe finished his hay this forenoon. Then we took 2 more loads this afternoon, one to mill, one to B. Wrape. Day is nice.
Aug 1 We hauled four loads of corn to N. Vernon, two to mill, one to Litchfield, one to Cone. Ed Fixton and wife went from here to go home tonight. Day has been warm.
Aug 2 I and Joe hauled to N. Vernon 4 loads of corn. Day has been very nice but warm.
Aug 3 I and Maw went to the Fair at Osgood. Joe is hauling corn to N. Vernon to Hull and Platter.
Aug 4 Joe took up a load of corn to Hull at N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon went down to help John Glixner to thrash wheat and oats. Day is nice but warm.
Aug 5 I took up a load of corn to Ebert's mill this morning. Joe went to help finish thrashing at Glixner's. Day is warm, we all to thrash our wheat on Monday next, if the weather is nice.
Aug 6 We all of us, went to George Baker's. Day is right nice and warm. It rained a good rain tonight.
Aug 7 I am choreing some this forenoon. It is some wet from the rain last night. I and Maw went to F. R. Gannon's this afternoon. He is down sick in bed.
Aug 8 The machine came up this afternoon and thrashed for Henry Burgmyer and we are helping. It is a nice day.
Aug 9 The machine got done at Henry's at 2 o'clock and came here and thrashed out all my wheat, number of bushels, 385. Day has been nice.
Aug 10 I and Joe went to help Boner to thrash. He got done, then the machine went to Sam Young's. We helped him, done with his wheat. Big rain before noon.
Aug 11 We are only choreing some this forenoon. It is a little wet. We went up to help Anthony Gawen to thrash this afternoon but he did not thrash, it rained some. Weather warm.
Aug 12 I and Joe trimmed the hedge. This afternoon I went to church. Joe and Maw went to N. Vernon to see the doctor. F. R. Gannon is dangerous sick at this time. The ground is wet now. Rain last night and very warm.
Aug 13 We went to church or I myself, Maw is not well enough to go. F. R. Gannon died this morning at 8 o'clock.
Aug 14 We are not doing much. It rained a big rain this morning and the ground is wet. I went over to Gannon's. He will be buried tomorrow at 10 o'clock at Hayden.
Aug 15 I went to the funeral of F. R. Gannon (note: little Frank). He was buried at the new graveyard. Joe cut some weeds on the orchard. Day has been right nice, a small shower this evening.
Aug 16 Joe and Pammy went to Benton Harbor this morning. I cut some weeds. Day has been nice but the ground is wet.
Aug 17 Joe was mowing down weeds on the 15 Acre field where we had wheat. I was choreing some. Day is right nice. Edy got back from his Uncle Prints Gannon's last night and today are cleaning the house ready to move.
Aug 18 I and Joe hauled down the telephone poles to the road along the line, ready to put in this forenoon. This afternoon Joe mowed some weeds on the stubble then at 3 o'clock went to help Emmie to thrash.
Aug 19 We went over to help Emmie to finish thrashing oats. They got done and moved. We came home and brought a load of oats, then it rained a big rain.
Aug 20 I and Maw are at home. Joe and Pammy went up to Ell Sullivan's this afternoon. Day is nice.
Aug 21 I and Maw went to Benton Harbor, got there at 6. Weather is nice here.
Aug 22 We went out to see ____ rings out in the woods.
Aug 23 We went up the St. Joseph river on the boat all day, lot of peaches. Weather is warm.
Aug 24 We went up to POPO lake this morning and stayed overnight. Rain this afternoon.

Sep 4 Joe harrowed the Long Bottom this forenoon. This afternoon finished up cutting the weeds on the 15 Acre piece. I am still around the house not able to do any work. Ed Stewart moved to his farm on the hill today.
Sep 5 Joe is hauling out manure on the Long Bottom. I am laying around the house yet, partly sick.
Sep 6 Joe hauled a little manure this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon to get things for the picnic for tomorrow.

Sep 11 Joe and Pammy went to the funeral of Tom McMannion this forenoon. This afternoon Joe is fixing at the tile in Emmie's field, broke down. I am mending some slow.

Oct 7 I took up the last load of old corn to N. Vernon this morning. This afternoon shucked a load of corn for the hogs. Very nice day.

Oct 9 I went to N. Vernon to see about a man to plaster the church house. Joe is at work on the road with the grader. Day is nice.
Oct 10 I went to N. Vernon and got the plasterer to patch the Zion Church and my own to patch, got it done and I took him home. It turned cold this evening and tonight hauled the sand for the church only today. mistake.
Oct 11 Today we plastered the church and repaired roof. A little rain fell and wind and turned cool and tonight there was a big frost.
Oct 12 We gathered one load corn this morning. This afternoon cut some corn off and hauled in some. Big frost tonight, 2nd frost.

Dec 13 We went to the funeral of Rebecca James over the creek. There was a funeral preached by our preacher, Nicholsen. Day is nice.

Dec 21 Nothing much done. It is very wet, it rained all last night and the ground is full of water. We drained off some water off the wheat.
Dec 22 Choreing some this forenoon. Joe put the weatherboarding on the wood shed above the porch. This afternoon went to N. Vernon, him and Pammy. It rains some most of the afternoon and the roads are very muddy.
Dec 23 We are only choreing. Ground is very wet and muddy for anything to get around. We fixed a platform at the barnshed door for the cattle to get into the shed.

Jan 2 Joe hauled a load of fodder from James' then some manure and chored some. Day is right nice.
Jan 3 I and Joe went to N. Vernon, took up 2 dozen chickens, got 71/2 pound, got 1150 of bran for pigs. Big rain last night and more this forenoon. Creek is high.
Jan 4 Nothing much done but the chores and the weather is right nice. It freezes some at night and thaws out through the day time.

Feb 5 We hauled a load of hay up from Edy's out of old stacks and raked off the black hay ready to press. The press was to have been up this morning but it snowed a lot last night and is cold today and they did not come tonight. It is 1 to zero, quite cold.
Feb 6 We are not doing much. The snow is on and cold. The protracted meeting began tonight. Ice on creek bore up.
Feb 7 The same only Joe split some stove wood this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon, him and Hiram Spencer. Weather to zero this morning. Church tonight.

Feb 12 The hay press went to work at the old hay stacks on below Edy's on his land as it is now. Joe hauled three loads of bails to Edy's barn, one load home this evening. Warmer today, thaws fast. Snow is most gone.
Feb 13 Pressed the rest of the hay, got all done. I and Maw went to church. I sowed some clover seed this morning for the first time. Day is warm.
Feb 14 Nothing done but the chores. It turned cold this morning and freezing. Brother Nicholsen is here today, left at 3 o'clock, went over the creek, church tonight.

Feb 20 Joe took up a calf to the butcher at Nob's butcher shop, got 5cents a pound. Day is some dark and cloudy.
Feb 21 Joe went to the funeral of Phillip Gagen this morning. Ray Marsh married today. Day is nice.
Feb 22 Joe is choreing some, fixing the grape arbor. I am trimming some apple trees today. Nice.
Feb 23 Joe is finishing the grape arbor and choreing some other things. Day nice.
Feb 24 We took out the wire from the stalk field where we had our cattle on the Betsy Bottom. Hung up the meat to smoke, got some hickory wood to smoke it. Got all the pigs for this spring.
Feb 25 We are at home, I and Maw. Hime Spencer is here. Joe and Pammy went to church at Four Corners.
Feb 26 We done but very little today although the day was right nice till 4 or 5 o'clock when it began to snow and it snowed about 2 inches.
Feb 27 Nothing done but the chores. There is 2 inches of snow on the ground but it melts some and makes it muddy.
Feb 28 We done but very little. Joe went to N. Vernon to try to sell his colt and got a place to work. It thawed some, snow off.
Mar 1 The same today, not much done. Joe went to look for a farm today. I finished trimming apple trees.
Mar 2 I went to N. Vernon, took up a load of corn to the mill, got 35 cents. Got brand and shorts. Day is cloudy and rainy.
Mar 3 I am only choreing some. Joe went to N. Vernon. Ground is wet and the creek is past fording.
Mar 4 We are at home all of us and Dick is here too. Day is cool and cloudy.
Mar 5 Joe and Dick hauled up a load of hay from the old stacks from Edy's and a load of fodder this forenoon. This afternoon cut down some apple trees in the orchard.
Mar 6 Joe and Dick are sawing up the old apple trees in stove wood. I split some this forenoon. This afternoon went over the creek and trimmed locust trees. Very nice day.
Mar 7 Not much done today. It rained some last night and it is misting some rain this morning. Dark cloudy day. I trimmed some locust this afternoon.
Mar 8 Not very much done today. It is sort of wet and muddy time. Joe put in some wood in the wood house this afternoon. Warm and muddy.

Mar 30 We are not doing anything but the chores. Creek is up the highest it has been this year and it has been raining a little all day by spells.

Apr 13 I sowed the Long Bottom to clover the second time. Joe and Pammy went to Vernon and he paid his tax. The day is nice and warm. Joe set out the apple trees this forenoon while I sowed the clover seed.
Apr 14 Joe took up 2 loads of bail hay to Collen's. There was a big rain last night and the roads are muddy. The day has been most fair, the creek is up.
Apr 15 I and Maw are at home. Joe and Pammy went to church at Four Corners then to P. Bertram's. Day is right nice but cool.
Apr 16 Joe and I are hauling some rock on the line fence at the branch to fix a gap to hang a gate on next to Boner's woods. This afternoon finished and hauled the wood out of orchard. Day nice.
Apr 17 Joe hauled out some manure on the garden, allowed on the bottom corn and chored some. Day is nice.
Apr 18 Joe spread the manure on the garden this forenoon. This afternoon plowed the garden then shelled some corn on the new sheller. Day has been nice.

Apr 30 I and Maw went to N. Vernon this forenoon. Joe began to plow on the 15 Acre field a piece for alfalfa clover allow to sow 2 acres to try it. I got the seed today, 9 per bushel. Day is nice. The appraiser was here today.
May 1 Joe commenced to plow for corn for the first. I am not doing much. I turned the cattle out to pasture for the first. Day is nice.
May 2 Joe is hauling out manure this forenoon. This afternoon went down to George Baker's took down 3 mares. William Bertram is plowing. Day nice after the shower last night.
May 3 Joe got back this morning at 10 o'clock. This afternoon hauled out manure. Will is still plowing. Day nice, not very warm.
May 4 I, Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon this afternoon to mill. We are still plowing for corn all this week. Week has been a good week to work. Today nice again.
May 5 We ground corn and oats for feed for the horses awhile this morning. Then harrowed the ground to sow on alfalfa seed. This afternoon sowed on the seed and harrowed in. A little rain this afternoon.

Sep 30 I and Maw are at home all day. Joe and Pammy went to P. Bertram's. Sunday School Convention at Tea Creek today. The weather is cool and rainy.
Oct 1 We are choreing some this forenoon. This afternoon Joe is mowing the weeds on the clover below Henry's, this is the second time. We cut it over since we cut the wheat.
Oct 2 Joe is mowing down the clover and weeds, the second time. The weather is cloudy and dark and the ground is wet.
Oct 3 Finished cutting all the clover this morning, then we hauled in some pumpkins till noon. This afternoon got a load of corn to feed the hogs on cloudy weather.
Oct 4 Nothing done this forenoon but the chores. This afternoon Joe, Pammy and Maw went to N. Vernon, got some paint to put on the hog house roof.
Oct 5 We are not doing but very little. It is wet and rainy.
Oct 6 I and Maw went to old Vernon to sign on Emmie's bond for Grace and Stewart Euler and she got the deed of Charley Woodward for the strip of land. Joe and Pammy went to the funeral at John Ewings child. Cool today.
Oct 7 We are at home and Jane Summer's and folks, Ell Sullivan and folks are here. Edy and folks, Albert Bertram, Velmore Spencer. Day is nice. Some cool.
Oct 8 Joe hauled in a few shocks of corn then a load of pumpkins this forenoon. This afternoon got a load for the hogs. Nice day.
Oct 9 Joe worked on the road grading the hill by the orchard. I dug the sweet potatoes. Cool day today.
Oct 10 Joe is working on the road grading the hill. The first big frost and freeze tonight.
Oct 11 The same above at the road work. Day nice. Another frost tonight.
Oct 12 Commenced to dig out potatoes, got part of them done. Weather is nice.
Oct 13 We finished up the potatoes in the orchard at noon then I went to church. Brother Bailey preached for us this time. Weather is nice.

Oct 15 Joe is shucking corn out of shock, the first shock shucked out in field. I dug the potatoes in the garden. Day nice.
Oct 16 We took off 20 hogs to Lovett for Asbury Green. He bought them to ship. This afternoon Joe and I went down to George Baker's, took cripple Nell. Day nice.
Oct 17 We hauled a load of pumpkins, then we chores till noon. This afternoon Joe began to gather corn to crib for the first. I painted the hog shed roof.
Oct 18 Joe is gathering corn on Long Bottom. I am choreing some. Day cloudy with some little rain a falling.
Oct 19 Joe went to N. Vernon this morning. This afternoon shucked corn out of shock. I am sorting some corn in the crib. A little rain this morning.
Oct 20 Joe is shucking out of shock and hauled it in. Day is nice.
Oct 21 We went to church. Jones preached from Franklin College. Day is nice.
Oct 22 Joe is gathering corn off the Long Bottom. Day is very nice.
Oct 23 Joe is at work on the road on the hill by the orchard grading the hill down. Day nice.
Oct 24 Joe is shucking corn awhile this morning till it rained then we shelled the rest of the old corn in crib. This afternoon Joe shucked out the shocks. I hauled in the rest of the pumpkins out of field.
Oct 25 Joe shucked corn out of shock all day. I went to N. Vernon to mill and got the horses shod. Came home and hauled in a load of corn. Day very nice.
Oct 26 Joe shucked out shock till noon. This afternoon hauled it in. Day is nice.
Oct 27 Joe shucked corn on stalk most of the day. It is a stormy day and high wind and cool.
Oct 28 I and Maw are at home. Joe and Pammy are at P. Bertram's. Day is very cool.

Oct 30 Joe and Henry Burgmyer hauled in fodder and stacked it this forenoon. Gathered this afternoon.
Oct 31 Joe gathered corn on stalk on Betsy Bottom. Weather is cool and dry.
Nov 1 Joe is at the corn on stalk and has got the Long Bottom done and most of the Betsy, will finish tomorrow.
Nov 2 The same at the corn, got all of the stalks off the low pieces. Began at the white this afternoon. Weather nice, frost every night.
Nov 3 Joe is at the white corn on the old Sullivan Bottom. I went to N. Vernon after Maw, she is coming up from Seymour from Joe Stewart's.
Nov 4 I and Maw are at home alone till noon, then Joe and Pammy came home from church and his father and folks, Baker and folks, Pete Speck (NOTE: Parents of Mary Bertram, Joe's mother) and folks are here this afternoon. Weather is very nice.
Nov 5 Joe is gathering corn on stalk and same as above. Weather is very nice and dry.
Nov 6 Joe gathered corn till noon then I and Joe went to Hayden to the election. Weather is very nice.
Nov 7 Joe is at the corn and Frank Hess is helping to shuck and the weather very nice and dry, need rain.

Nov 10 At the corn on stalk on the old Sullivan Bottom of white corn. There is out of this field tonight, 24 loads, thirty bushels to the load. I and Maw went to church. The last trip for Nicholas to preach.
Nov 11 We went to church, this is the last time of his last year to come. Weather is very nice.
Nov 12 Joe is at the corn and Charley Baker is helping. Weather is cool and dry. Need rain.
Nov 13 At the corn and got all done on stalk about 900 on this 14 Acre field.
Nov 14 Joe went hunting today down below, near G. Baker's. I and Maw went to N. Vernon. Quite cold.

Nov 17 Joe shucked corn till noon. This afternoon it rained most of the afternoon and tonight it rained a big rain.
Nov 18 I and Maw and Sadie went up to Edy Stewart's. Joe and Pammy went to P. Bertram's. Big rain last night and the road is muddy.
Nov 19 I went to Vernon to the Farmer's Institute. There was a big rain last ngiht and the ground is wet.
Nov 20 I and Maw went to the Institute today. It is a wet time, it rained a big rain last night and this evening it rained a great deal more and the creek is getting up.
Nov 21 Not much done, the ground is wet. The creek is high, the wind is very high. This afternoon Joe is hunting.
Nov 22 Joe went up to Paris this morning to get 6 gallons of molasses. This afternoon shucked corm out of shock. Most done with corn.
Nov 23 Joe is shucking corn out of shock and finished all for this year. Some fodder out yet. Day is nice but the ground is soft.
Nov 24 Joe hauled in the last of the corn out of shock for this year this morning. This afternoon went up to Butlerville, he and Pammy, to Roy Swarthout's. Day is nice and pleasant.
Nov 25 I and Maw are at home all dya. Dick is here since Friday. Joe and Pammy are at Butlerville. Day nice.
Nov 26 Joe is helping Emmie to shuck corn today. A little rain and some wind blew today, not very cold.
Nov 27 Joe and Dick hauled in the last of the fodder out of the field of the Betsy Bottom. This afternoon put the vinegar barrels in the cellar.
Nov 28 Joe and Dick went up to Tom Caitin's and got some rocks for corners to put in the corners of our land. This afternoon helped Henry Burgmyer to haul in fodder.
Nov 29 Joe & Pammy went to P. Bertram's and Dick went too. Day right nice.
Nov 30 Joe and Dick are at work at putting up wire fence on the old Sullivan Bottom stalk field to put in the cattle in. Day right nice.
Dec 1 Not doing anything but the chores. It is rainy all forenoon. Joe went to N. Vernon.
Dec 2 We are at the home all day. Day is sort of dark.
Dec 3 Joe and Dick is putting up the rest of the wire fence, got it all up and put in the cattle in this evening.
Dec 4 Joe is fixing the barn shed posts raising them up where they were settled down too low. This is a very nice day.
Dec 5 Joe is only choreing. It rained some this morning and is wet. I went around to see how much I could get to hire a preacher. Dark day and some rain.
Dec 6 Nothing done but the chores. Joe had the young gray colt hitched up for the first time. Day is cool.

Dec 8 Joe is driving the 2 colts today. Hauled a little gravel with them.
Dec 9 We are at home all day. Doc Green was here today to see Maw, she is sick with "arasipoless". Day is rainy and dark all day.

Dec 11 The same today not much done. Set in the corner stones on the land. It is wet, muddy time. Maw is still sick yet.

Dec 14 I went to N. Vernon to mill and to get some more medicine for Maw. She is not much better. Joe is only choreing, he chilled last night and isn't well. Rain and warm weather.
Dec 15 Nothing done but the chores. It rained all night and the creek is the highest it has been this year.
Dec 16 We are at home and Maw is sick yet and the Doctor Green is here to see her today. Day is chilly and the ground is wet and white with snow.
Dec 17 Nothing done but he chores. Joe and Dick helped Sam Young to butcher 2 hogs. A little snow on and more tonight.
Dec 18 Same as above nothing but the chores. The snow on is about 2 inches deep. Maw is still sick. Joe and Pammy went to N. Vernon this afternoon. Cool day.
Dec 19 Nothing done but the chores. Snow is on the ground. Maw is some better now.
Dec 20 Joe took the red sow and stag hogs to Lovett. Sold to A. Green. Weight of both, 1000 lbs. Snow and rain all day.
Dec 21 Cut up the hog, we butchered on yesterday, for meat. It is a stormy like day. Snows a little with a little rain.
Dec 22 I and Joe went to N. Vernon to mill and to get bran and shorts for the pigs. Some cold and snow on and some falling.
Dec 23 We are at home most of the day. I and Pammy went to church to hear Fred Young preach. Joe went to Four Corners to church.
Dec 24 Nothing done but the chores. It is some cold with 2 or 3 inches of snow on yet.
Dec 25 Joe, Pammy and Dick started to Seymour this morning to go to Joe Stewart's and got home this evening. The snow is still on the ground and is right cold.
Dec 26 Joe and Dick helped Edy to butcher his hogs this forenoon. This afternoon crushed corn to feed the cattle. Weather is a little warmer.
Dec 27 Nothing done but the chores again today. Day is foggy and dark and the snow is melting off some.
Dec 28 The same today as on yesterday. Nothing done but he chores. Dark and foggy weather at this time, thawing out. It is not very much frozen.
Dec 29 Nothing done much but the chores. It is damp and soft. Snow is about gone.
Dec 30 I and Maw are at home and Dick a part of the day. It is drizzly and rains some most of the day a little. Joe and Pammy went to P. Bertram's.
Dec 31 Nothing done but the chores. It rained last night and the ground is soft and the creek is up past fording.
