Jan 1     We are only choreing. The weather is very nice.

Jan 2     The same as above. We went to church this evening.

Jan 3     We went to church. The day is right nice but it rained tonight and there was no church, only a few out.

Jan 4     We are only choreing. The day is right cold.

Jan 6     I and Edy went to N. Vernon, took up a part of a load of wheat. Sold it for .80/bu.

Jan 7     We are only choreing. The day is right cold with a little snow on.

Jan 8     We are not very busy, only doing the chores.

Jan 9     I and Edy hauled out some manure on the wheat this morning while the ground was frozen.

Jan 10     We are at home and Sam Young and wife are here and Ed James and wife. The day is very nice but muddy.

Jan 11     We are only a choreing. Weather is right nice.

Jan 12     Edy went to Vernon with a load of corn to get feed.

Jan 13     We are sitting in the house most of the day. It snowed about 3 inches last night. Sherd Spalding is here today.

Jan 14     We are only choreing, the ground is covered with snow but it is melting off.

Jan 15     We are not doing very much, it is sloppy underfoot. Cloudy weather.

Jan 16     We butchered our beef today. This is a warm day.

Jan 17     We are at home. This has been a warm day but the ground is wet from the rain last night. The creek is up.

Jan 18     We are only doing the chores. Weather is right nice.

Jan 19     I am not doing much. Edy is helping George Euler to put on his roof on his shed. Nice day.

Jan 20     This is a kind of a stormy day, it snows some and rains. We are not doing much.

Jan 21     I and Edy went to N. Vernon with a load to get feed for cattle. The day is chilly.

Jan 22     We are not doing much, it is a blustery day and muddy. Sherd Spalding is here awhile. He allows to start home tomorrow.

Jan 23     We are at the old trade today again, sitting around, part of the time doing chores. It froze right hard last night.

Jan 24     We are at home. The day is right cold and stormy. Joe Beaty's house burned today.

Jan 25     We are not doing only the chores. It is the coldest day this winter. A half inch of snow.

Jan 26     The same today. Cold, some snow on.

Jan 27     The same as above. Last night fell one more inch of snow and now still cold.

Jan 28     We are at the same trade, not doing much. The weather still cold.

Jan 29     The same as above. Weather is little warmer.

Jan 30     I am at home, Joe and Edy are helping George Euler to put up ice.

Jan 31     I am at home, the rest are on the ice and at George Euler's. The day is very pleasant.

Feb 1     I and Edy went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to get feed for the cattle.

Feb 2     We are not doing any work, only the chores. John James and Beck and Mrs. Shepard are here. A little snow on and is a snowing but it melts.

Feb 3     We helped George to butcher his hogs, nice day.

Feb 4     We took off our hogs to Lovett today and one cow and calf to Mornen. The day is dark and cloudy.

Feb 5     Edy and I are hauling in a stack of clover hay down on the bottom. It set in to rain and we hauled 2 loads and quit. Joe is helping George to cut meat.

Feb 6     We hauled up the rest of the stack today. The ice thawed out of the creek. The creek is up. We could not get over to church.

Feb 7     We are at home. The creek is up. We could not get over to church. It is very muddy now.

Feb 8     We butchered our hogs today. There is 3 inches of snow on this morning. It thaws some. George Euler helped.

Feb 9     We cut up the hogs and salted them, made sausage and tried out the lard.

Feb 10     I sowed clover in the orchard and on the side near the creek of the old field.

Feb 11     I am only choreing, the boys are cutting stove wood for the first this winter on yesterday afternoon. The day is dark and cloudy, all day.

Feb 12     I am choreing some. The boys are cutting wood. Clifford is helping.

Feb 13     I and Maw went to town, took up some potatoes and apples. The day is right nice but muddy.

Feb 14     We are at home. The day is nice but muddy.

Feb 15     I am trimming apple trees. Boys are cutting wood.

Feb 16     I went to Vernon to mill with a load of corn and oats to get ground for the cattle. This has been a nice day.

Feb 17     I am trimming apple trees. Boys are cutting stove wood. Weather is right nice, frost out.

Feb 18     The same as above at trees and wood. Weather nice.

Feb 19     I am trimming apple trees. Boys went to help Lawrence to cut wood. The road is drying off nice. Weather nice.

Feb 20     I am trimming apple trees this forenoon. This afternoon drained off water off wheat. Boys are cutting wood. Rain last night.

Feb 21     We are at home. It rains most all day long.

Feb 22     We are not doing anything but the chores. It rains some yet and last night it rained and the creek is high this morning.

Feb 23     I am trimming apple trees. Boys are at the wood.

Feb 24     I sowed some clover out on the old field back of the barn. It froze right hard last night.

Feb 25     I sowed the rest of the old field to clover. Got it all done.

Feb 26     I sowed some clover seed on the 15 Acre field this morning.

Feb 27     I trimmed some apple trees. Boys went to the Institute at N. Vernon. The day is right cold, some froze.

Feb 28     We are at home. It is a right nice day.

Mar 1     I and Joe went to old Vernon with a load of corn and oats to get ground for feed. The day is cloudy but the roads are good.

Mar 2     This is a rainy day most all day and muddy. I and Edy went out to Mouse's with the 2 colts to see if he wanted one to buy.

Mar 3     The boys are at the wood chopping at Canfield's. I and Maw went up to Tull's.

Mar 4     The boys are at the wood. I am trimming apple trees and choreing some.

Mar 5     We are not doing anything but looking at the creek. It is the highest I ever saw it. It is all over the bottoms, sweeping everything before it. Five bridges went down, fences, trees, our hay and clover straw went out.

Mar 6     The water is most out of the fields this morning and it has washed the land very bad and spoiled lots of wheat.

Mar 7     We are at home. The day is right nice but the roads are muddy and the road to the creek is impassable.

Mar 8     We are not doing much. Edy hauled some rock from Indian Creek to put in the yard for a wall. It set in to rain this afternoon and it rained ther est of the evening and is very muddy.

Mar 9     It is wet this morning from the rain yesterday and the creek is getting up. We, this afternoon put in some posts around the yard fence and garden. It is very wet on the ground, so much rain. Big rain tonight, creek high now.

Mar 10     I am trimming apple trees. Boys are finishing up the wood cutting the last. Creek is high. Big rain last night. The day overhead pleasant.

Mar 11     We are taking drift off of the hedge fence in the first field. It is hard to get it raised. It is very muddy in the fields now.

Mar 12     I and Edy went to N. Vernon with a load of corn to get feed for the cattle. This load exchanged for meal. The day is nice but cool.

Mar 13     I went out to Mr. Euler's to see a farm joining to him on the north belonging to Levett too look it over. The day is right nice but cool.

Mar 14     We are at home. The day is right nice but cool.

Mar 15     I went to Vernon to buy the farm of Robert Leavitt for Lawrence. Bought it for $1,300. Paid down $650, gave a note for $650. The day is very nice.

Mar 16     I sowed some grass seed on the field ground, then we are fixing the orchard fence. Right nice day.

Mar 17     This is quite a rainy day, not much done.

Mar 18     We are repairing some fence around the orchard. It is a rainy time.

Mar 19     The same as above, repairing fence. It rains some by showers all day. Creek is up.

Mar 20     I and Joe went to Vernon with corn and oats to get ground for feed. The day is very nice and warm.

Mar 21     We are at home and Sam Young and folks are here. Day nice.

Mar 22     We are hauling some fence posts from Otto Hess' and taking off some wire off of the posts that the water took down on John James'. The day is very nice but the ground...

Mar 23     We are out next to the creek putting up some plank fence that the water took off at the water gap or aside of it in the old field. Day is cool and windy.

Mar 24     We are only choreing this forenoon. It is terrible cold this morning. It is right chilly.

Mar 25     We are sawing up some trees in the field that the water brought in. I sowed some clover seed this morning on where the water filled. Very nice day.

Mar 26     Mistake, this is Friday…Wednesday was left off.

Mar 27     I sowed some clover and timothy this morning on the lower wheat below next to MacMannon's where it was covered with mud. This afternoon went to town. Very nice day. It freezes a little at night and thaws in the daytime.

Mar 28     We are at home. The day is very pleasant. Froze the ground some.

Mar 29     Lawrence moved out on the farm I bought for him. The boys took 2 loads. Day is right nice and pleasant.

Mar 30     We took up 2 loads of wheat to N. Vernon. Rain last night, looks for more. Jim Canfield buried his girl.

Mar 31     We took 2 more loads today. The day is cloudy.

Apr 1     Took the 3 last loads and a load of corn to get feed. Number of wheat sold 266 bu.

Apr 2     We are putting in posts for the wire fence on the thicket piece where the water took off.

Apr 3     We are at work putting up the wire fence on the thicket but we ran out of wire. I and Maw went to church, Martin preached.

Apr 4     We are at home. The creek is up and we did not get over to church.

Apr 5     We are down on the lower forty next to Burgmyer putting up some wire fence. It is very wet underfoot. We did not get it done.

Apr 6     We took off our cattle to Lovett to Charley Trapp, 7 head, average 1260. Ochs cattle in this bunch. Day is nice.

Apr 7     This is a rainy day. We did a little work on the lower end of our road where the water washed it. Set in to rain and we quit. It rained all day, no more done. I sold Nell mare to Deputy.

Apr 8     We are repairing some fence. It is very wet time.

Apr 9     The same as above. Wet time, not much doing.

Apr 10     Edy and I went out to the sale out at Brour's?. I bought a cultivator at the sale. Day is right nice.

Apr 11     I and Maw went over to John Hedges'. The roads are bad. The ground is wet and muddy.

Apr 12     We put up some plank fence this forenoon. This afternoon put up some wire fence by John James'.

Apr 13     I took Maw to N. Vernon to go to Seymour. Then went to get my cultivator. Rain.

Apr 14     We were repairing some fence this morning for awhile. It set in to rain and it rained all day long. Maw came home.

Apr 15     We were repairing same and cutting briars and nailing boards over the house windows. The ground is wet.

Apr 16     We are trimming up some around the garden where Lawrence did live and fence repair.

Apr 17     We are at work on the road where the creek washed.

Apr 18     We are at home. The day is very nice but cool.

Apr 19     We put in our oats for the first this year. Day is cool and windy.

Apr 20     I went to old Vernon with a load of corn and oats for cattle and hogs. The morning is cold, froze.

Apr 21     We hauled in the old stack of hay by Tull's this forenoon. This afternoon hauled out manure.

Apr 22     We hauled out manure, plowed the potato patch and planted some potatoes. This is a very nice day.

Apr 23     We hauled out manure on the Long Bottom where the water washed off. This is a very nice day and is drying. Apr 24     I went out to the sale on the Henry Lawrence's farm and bought 4 head of cattle at the sale, paid $107 for them on 6 months time. Boys commenced to plow for corn today for the first. Day is quite warm.

Apr 25     We went over to George Euler's. It rained.

Apr 26     We plowed on the Long Bottom on clover. Too wet to plow on stalks.

Apr 27     The same, plowing. We put out the cattle on the pasture. Day is nice.

Apr 28     Still at the plowing for corn. Weather is right nice.

Apr 29     The same, Joe is plowing on the Betsy Bottom. Edy is working on the roads along the hedge fence. I and Clifford are taking out the hedge. Weather nice, warm.

Apr 30     The same, both plowing. I and Clifford at the hedge. Rained some today, ground is plenty wet.

May 1     The same, at the plowing and it is all plowed up here and over at Jerrie's. Very cool.

May 2     We are at home all day. It rains slowly with a part snow.

May 3     I and Maw went to town to mill and market. It rains some today.

May 4     Joe went over to Camel's mill to get another load of lumber. Then we put the rest of the fence up down to the old hedge row.

May 5     We are at the orchard this forenoon, rubbing the trees with soap. We began to plow on the clover on the bottom, this side.

May 6     The boys are plowing on the same. Very nice day.

May 7     Still plowing. Weather nice.

May 8     The same and I and Allen Shepard are fixing up wire fence on line. Weather nice.

May 9     I am at home The rest are at Sunday School. Very nice.

May 10     I went down to Felding Lett's this afternoon. Quite a rain last night.

May 11     We commenced to plant corn on the Long Bottom for the first this year. Rain this evening.

May 12     Rain last night, too wet. I went to town.

May 13     We are planting corn. Got in 20 acres tonight.

May 14     We are plowing over the creek by Jerrie's and got the most of it ready to plant. Right cool day.

May 15     Edy and I finished the piece across the creek at noon, ready to plant. Rained this afternoon, made it too wet to plow or plant.

May 16     I am at home. Rest are at Sunday School. Day nice.

May 17     We are plowing below this afternoon. Edy planted the piece over the creek. I went to town.

May 18     Commenced to plant below. Today on the road.

May 19     We got the upper Liew piece all done and planted and commenced on the lower to break this afternoon.

May 20     Three plowing on the same. Right nice weather for plowing.

May 21     Still plowing on this piece. Got down below the walnut tree.

May 22     The boys are rolling, harrowing and planting. This piece is planted below the walnut. Got in 50 acres about.

May 23     I and Maw are at home. The rest went to Sunday School. It set in to rain, big rain.

May 24     Hauled in stack of hay this forenoon. Plowed this afternoon.

May 25     Plowing. I went down to Leett's this forenoon. Nice day but cool.

May 26     Got done plowing for corn.

May 27     We are harrowing and planting but won't get done today. note: North Vernon Sun, May 27, 1897...100 years ago today. Wm. Stewart came near losing his life at the Euler Ford last week by not knowing the stream was past fording and but for his faithful animal which gallantly brought him ashore, he would have drowned.)

May 28     We got all done planting at noon. It rained some.

May 29     We are hauling rails from drift and put them up this forenoon. This afternoon went to town. Nice day.

May 30     Went to church. Marten preached. This is a nice day.

May 31     We are at work at the lane fence to the water gap.

Jun 1     We took our hogs to Hayden, 15 of them. Sold to Hillerman at 3.10 a hundred. We began to plow corn for the first.

Jun 2     We are at the corn work, plowing and rolling.

Jun 3     We are at the corn till noon. It rained this afternoon.

Jun 4     We plowed some on the roadside this forenoon. This afternoon went at the corn. It is plenty wet yet.

Jun 5     The same, at the corn. I went to church this afternoon. Day nice.

Jun 6     We went to church, last time for Ebaugh to come.

Jun 7     I went to Vernon on business. Rained till noon.

Jun 8     We are breaking up the rest of the piece where Billy left in weeds. It is nice.

Jun 9     Plowed on this piece till noon, plowed corn the rest of the day.

Jun 10     Began to plow corn on lower part. It is nice time to plow.

Jun 11     I rolled in corn to plow on this piece. The weather is right nice and warmer.

Jun 12     The same as above at the corn. First lower piece done for the first time, at noon.

Jun 13     I am at home all day. The rest went to Sunday School, then this afternoon to the children's day at Zion.

Jun 14     We are at the corn plowing on the lower bottom. Day is warm.

Jun 15     I went to Vernon, George and I. Boys are at the corn.

Jun 16     At the corn. Weather is nice and very warm.

Jun 17     It rained a big rain last night and the creek is up out of the corn. We sowed a part of our millet. Very warm, too wet to plow corn.

Jun 18     We are choreing, fixing the binder this forenoon. I went to town this afternoon.

Jun 19     We are cutting tops off of corn in mud where the water was over. This afternoon finished the millet sowing.

Jun 20     I and Maw went out to Lawrence's. It is a nice day.

Jun 21     We are at the corn work.

Jun 22     The same, at corn work.

Jun 23     The same, at the corn. 2 plows.

Jun 24     The same, we are at the Long Bottom, 3 plowing. Weather nice.

Jun 30     Began to cut wheat and plowing corn. Jul 1     I and Edy took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Litchfield this forenoon. Plowed corn this afternoon. Some rain.

Jul 2     We cut wheat with out own binder on the 15 Acre piece.

Jul 3     We got it done this morning. This afternoon went below on the hill Very warm. Wheat ripe.

Jul 4     We are at home. Day is very warm.

Jul 5     We finished cutting wheat. Weather is very warm.

Jul 6     We are at the corn. Weather is very warm.

Jul 7     I went to N. Vernon to mill this forenoon. At corn this afternoon.

Jul 8     Hoeing out weeds out of corn.

Jul 9     We are at the corn, quit at noon. The wind blew it over so we cannot plow too big.

Jul 10     We are hoeing out weeds out of corn. Weather cooler now.

Jul 11     We are at home. The rain came this evening. It rained good.

Jul 12     We are at the corn work.

Jul 13     The same, till noon, then Edy began to mow for the first.

Jul 14     We finished up the corn plowing. This afternoon shocked up hay. It rained some.

Jul 15     We stacked hay for the first.

Jul 16     I went to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon hoeing out some weeds out of the corn. John Hedges died last night.

Jul 17     We went to the funeral of John Hedges. He was buried at Hayden. This afternoon raked and put up some hay in shock that we had down. Bad time for hay.

Jul 18     I am at home, the rest are at George's but Joe, he went to Lawrence's. The day is right nice.

Jul 19     We cut grass and put up hay today. It was a right dark day for hay.

Jul 20     We went down to cut the patch of oats and it set in to rain and we did not get anymore done today. We have hay out in shock now.

Jul 21     We cut weeds and trimmed hedge till noon. This afternoon finished cutting oats. Day nice.

Jul 22     We finished mowing our grass and put up some hay.

Jul 23     We got in all our hay today for this year. Day nice.

Jul 24     We went to N. Vernon this afternoon. It rained this forenoon a big rain and is very warm.

Jul 25     We are at home and Tull's, Beaty, George, Lawrence and all of their folks are here.

Jul 26     I went to N. Vernon. It is a wet time, too wet to do much, can't thrash or work at hay.

Jul 27     We hauled out manure on wheat ground. The ground is very wet. Sarah Swarthout came here this evening.

Jul 28     I took her home to Hayden this morning. Edy is plowing.

Jul 29     We sowed over the turnips, then hauled down rails to fence the potato patch. Weather nice.

Jul 30     Edy and Joe are helping Harrison Spencer to thrash his wheat and Charley Woodard.

Jul 31     This morning it rained the biggest rain that has been for a time. It broke the levy on Indian and the creek is high.

Aug 1     We are at home and Sebe Ewing and Lissie are here.

Aug 2     We are helping George to thrash this afternoon. It is very warm this evening.

Aug 3     We helped to finish George's thrashing this morning. This afternoon cut some weeds on roadside.

Aug 4     We hauled up some wheat from below Tull's and put it in stack to thrash this week. The machine is to be here.

Aug 5     We went to N. Vernon to the Fair all day. Cool.

Aug 6     I went down to Charley Hess' to see about the thrashing machine. They came up this evening here to thrash tomorrow. The boys and Pamma went to the Fair. Day is nice.

Aug 7     We thrashed our wheat out of shock. Number of bu of wheat, 395. Oats 75. Very nice day. They went up and thrashed S. Young's.

Aug 8     Went to church. This is the first trip for Brother Marten. Nice day.

Aug 9     We helped thrash at Gawen, Bonner, Hess, Fisher & Tull Sullivan's. Nice day.

Aug 10     We took up 2 loads of wheat to N. Vernon. Got 68 cents. Nice day.

Aug 11     We began to plow for wheat on the 15 Acre piece this morning. Helped Shepard to thrash wheat.

Aug 12     The boys are helping to thrash at Burgmyer's this morning.

Aug 13     We are plowing for wheat and burning the logs in the field. Weather is nice.

Aug 14     The same as above.

Aug 15     Maw and I went to Euler's on Grayham. Day is nice.

Aug 16     Still at the plowing and cutting weeds. Weather nice.

Aug 17     Same as above. Some dry.

Aug 18     Same as above. Weather is till dry, need rain.

Aug 19     Same and Joe is hauling out manure.

Aug 20     Same and I and Maw went to N. Vernon and Joe and Edy helped George Euler to thrash clover seed.

Aug 21     Edy and I hauled some logs to gather this forenoon. This afternoon hauled posts from Sam Young's. Weather dry.

Aug 22     We are at home. Only Joe and Edy, they went to camp meeting. Very nice rain today.

Aug 23     At Cincinnati all day. Went to the garden and over the city. Stayed there tonight. Day nice at the lagoon. Tonight at Covington, Kentucky.

Aug 24     Started on the trip to the Exposition at Tennessee on the Engineer Club, got there this evening at 5 o'clock. Nice day.

Aug 25     We are at the Exposition all day. The day is nice but warm.

Aug 26     The same, at the Exposition.

Aug 27     We left this morning, came up to Mammoth Cave. Stayed there tonight. Looked at cave.

Aug 28     We started for home this morning from the cave and got home at 11 o'clock.

Aug 29     We are at home. The day is warm.

Aug 30     We are at work at the levy and hauling manure.

Aug 31     The same as above. Weather is nice, need rain.

Sep 1     The same as above.

Sep 2     Went to N. Vernon. There is a show today.

Sep 3     We are harrowing and making a levy on the 15 Acre.

Sep 4     I am at home burning brush below house where Lawrence did live.

Sep 5     We went to church, all of us. Mon Swarthout preached.

Sep 6     We are at work on levy and harrowing on wheat ground. Weather is dry and warm.

Sep 7     The same as above. Weather still dry and warm.

Sep 8     The same as above and got it done. Weather warm and dry.

Sep 9     Cut some millet. Warm.

Sep 10     We put up some millet.

Sep 11     Edy is mowing down weeds on stubble. Warm. Joe and I put up millet this afternoon.

Sep 12     We went over to Sebe Ewing's. The day is warm.

Sep 13     Finished cutting the millet. Then Edy cut weeds on wheat stubble. I am at the same.

Sep 14     Mowed some weeds, then finished our millet hay for this year. Weather warm.

Sep 15     Edy and I mowed down weeds. Weather is hot and dry. Joe has been cutting corn all this week.

Sep 16     We cut corn this forenoon and got done all we allow to cut. Went to town this afternoon. Big rain.

Sep 17     Joe and Edy are harrowing since the rain, it harrows nice.

Sep 18     The same as above.

Sep 19     We are at home. The day is nice. Cool weather now.

Sep 20     We are harrowing and rolling, getting ready to sow.

Sep 21     The same as above. Day nice.

Sep 22     We began to sow wheat today for the first day. Nice.

Sep 23     The same, at the wheat on the 15 Acre field. Got it done. Maw and I went to town this afternoon.

Sep 24     Got done all the wheat at home this evening.

Sep 25     We raked weeds on the lower 7 acre meadow and hauled them off and burned them.

Sep 26     We are at home. The day is nice. Weather is dry now.

Sep 27     We went down to plow for wheat on the millet piece where Bonner's corn is. Dry yet.

Sep 28     The same as above.

Sep 29     Edy is harrowing on the corn stubs. Dry yet. Joe and I are working on the rose beside this field.

Sep 30     Went to Seymour to the Street Fair. Dry weather.

Oct 1     We worked on the road this forenoon. This afternoon commenced to sow wheat on the lower piece. Dry yet.

Oct 2     The same and got the wheat all sowed for this year. Very dry weather.

Oct 3     Went to church. The weather is nice but very dry at this time.

Oct 4     We are at work on the levy down by MacManman's land where the creek washed out. Weather dry.

Oct 5     We are still at the levy below. Still dry weather.

Oct 6     We worked on roads, all of us, on the road between here and creek. Got all done.

Oct 7     We are working on the levy, helping Otto Hess to fix his levy. Weather dry.

Oct 8     The same today as above.

Oct 9     The same as above, weather is dry.

Oct 10     We are at home. Weather is still dry yet.

Oct 11     Got the levy done. A little rain fell.

Oct 12     We shucked some corn out of the shock for the first this year. It is a little damp from the little rain that fell on it. Picked the winter apples this afternoon. Very few of them.

Oct 13     We are digging the potatoes. It is a nice time, dry.

Oct 14     We finished the potatoes, then fixed the road and hauled a load of wood home from the woods. It is dry yet.

Oct 15     Joe and I went to N. Vernon with a load of wheat, got .90/bu. Then paid the tax. Edy is hauling stove wood.

Oct 16     Edy and Joe are hauling stove wood to the wood house and I am ricking it up. Weather is still dry.

Oct 17     We are at home. Weather is still dry.

Oct 18     We got most of the wood in at noon, then this afternoon we took up 2 loads of corn. One to mill, one to Litchfield.

Oct 19     Edy and I took up 2 loads of corn to the mill this afternoon. It rained some.

Oct 20     We shucked corn out of shock today. Not much rain this time.

Oct 21     We began to shuck corn on stalk. It is plenty green yet. The weather is nice, no frost to kill the vines.

Oct 23     We took up 2 loads of corn to N. Vernon, one to the mill, one to Litchfield. Weather is nice but dry.

Oct 24     We are at home and George and Emma are here.

Oct 25     We are at the corn. It is nice weather for it but the corn is not very gray yet. Not much frost and the ground is quite dry.

Oct 26     The same, at the corn. Very pretty weather but dry.

Oct 27     Still at corn. Got he Long Bottom done on stalk, number of loads 24, 25 bu loads on stalk.

Oct 30     The same, at corn. Got most done on the Betsy Bottom. Weather is nice for work but dry. I brought down the three heifers with young calves.

Nov 1     We are only choreing. Raining all day and tonight too.

Nov 2     The same today, rain all last night and all day today till most sundown when it stopped and cleared off. It all soaked into the ground as it fell.

Nov 3     we gathered some out on stalk this morning. This afternoon in shock. The shocks are wet on the north side of them yet.

Nov 4     We are down on the Liew Bottom helping Billy Boner to shuck out the shocks of rent corn for all the fodder.

Nov 5     I and John James are hauling fodder from below his house and stacking it. Cloudy and some little rain falling. The boys are over the creek at Jerrie's gathering corn.

Nov 7     This is a rainy day, all day and we are at home. There was no church on account of rain.

Nov 15     It began to rain at 3 o'clock this morning and it made the corn too wet to do anything.

Nov 29     We hauled in some corn that we had shucked on Saturday out of shock and hauled some rails to build a pen below on bottom.

Nov 30     We gathered corn below on lower piece, got 24 more loads here yet, then 24 more shocks on Long Bottom yet.

Dec 1     We gathered corn. Two more good days on stalk like today and we will be done. Froze some last night.

Dec 2     We are at the corn all day and got in 8 more loads. One more day on stalk will finish on stalk.

Dec 3     We finished gathering corn on stalk. It is a dark day with a mist of rain all day and chilly.

Dec 4     We finished all of our shock corn. Some fodder yet to haul, then we are all done. This is another dark day.

Dec 5     We went to church. The day is quite cool. Snowed a little and the ground is some froze.

Dec 6     We hauled in all our fodder we have out. All done for this year.

Dec 7     We were at work putting in some posts on the Betsy Bottom to put up a wire fence and straightening up the old wire along the creek.

Dec 8     I went to Vernon. Took up a load of wheat to Goff, got .81 1/2/bu. Got some wire for fence.

Dec 9     We put up the wire fence on the Betsy Bottom. Got it all ready to turn in.

Dec 10     We was at work at the posts on the old bottom fence fixing to put up a wire fence to put in the cattle. Weather nice.

Dec 11     The same today as above and we have got it now ready to put on the wire. Weather is nice and warm.

Dec 12     We are at home. Day is some dark and cool.

Dec 13     We put up some wire on the posts along on the line of Burgmyer this forenoon. This afternoon it rains most of the time. Joe went out to help Lawrence to do some work.

Dec 14     We did nothing but chores. It is very wet and rains a little and is dark day. Cold chilly weather.

Dec 15     We went to N. Vernon, Maw and I. Cold chilly day and dark weather for 3 or 4 days.

Dec 16     We finished all of the wire fence on the corn stalk pasture.

Dec 17     We are only choreing. It is wet. It has rained a big rain.

Dec 18     This is the coldest morning this winter. Boys went up to Vernon to hear the trial of Seefer (?), it was changed to Madison for trial. The creek was high last night.

Dec 19     We are at home. The day is cool. Ground is some froze.

Dec 20     We are only choreing. The weather is dark and cloudy. We butchered a hog.

Dec 21     Joe went to help George Euler to take off the hide of a heifer he had to die and Edy and I hauled in 2 loads of fodder for him this afternoon.

Dec 22     Joe took up a load of corn to Herron's mill to crush for feed and got 150 lbs of buckwheat flour. Ground is a little froze and cool.

Dec 23     We helped George Euler to shuck some corn on stalk this morning below the road on old Sullivan land. This is a right cold morning. He got it about gone at noon.

So we allow to turn in our cattle tomorrow.

Dec 24     The same and got all done. Quite cold.

Dec 25     We turned in the cattle in the stalks where George had corn. This is a right nice day. Ground thaws a little.

Dec 26     We are at home. The day is very nice. Ground is frozen but it is thawing some.

Dec 27     We hauled out some manure on the wheat where the sand washed on the ground. This afternoon we are not doing much. Preacher Marten came here at noon. He came to hold a Protracted Meeting he began on Sunday night.

Dec 28     Maw and I went to church this morning. This afternoon I went up to Herron's mill to get a load of crushed corn that we took last week. The weather is right nice. Ground is some frozen, not very cold. The boys helped George to butcher.

Dec 29     We are not doing much. We went over to church. It sleeted and rained some for awhile. Joe is helping George to cut meat.

Dec 30     We are doing but very little. Church is going on at this time.

Dec 31     We are still having church. Today is snow on the ground that fell last night and today is blustery weather.

Jan 1     We go to church every day. There is a snow on the ground this morning and it is quite cold.

Jan 4     I went to N. Vernon, got some notions at town. The day is very pleasant, some snow on yet but it still melts some every day.

Jan 5     There is no church today but church tonight. The day has been very nice. We hauled out some manure.

Jan 6     We are not doing much work. Church at nights now. It rains all forenoon.

Jan 8     We are only choreing. We hauled out a little manure but the frost is about out. The day is very pleasant but muddy.

Jan 9     We are at home. This is a very rainy day. There has fell a great deal of rain for Indian Creek broke the levy this evening. The creek is rising fast and will be high tonight.

Jan 10     We are not doing anything but looking at what the creek has done. It is high this morning but is going down. It broke the levy on the 15 Acre field and the water covers all the wheat that I had in but did not hurt it much.

Jan 11     The same, not doing much. It is very wet and muddy.

Jan 12     The same, not doing anything but the chores. Ground is very wet and muddy.

Jan 15     This morning Lawrence Stewart's baby died. He came out here and told us and Maw went back with him. The creek is past ford from the rain last night.

Jan 16     Edy and Joe went out to Lawrence's to the funeral of the baby and Maw is there. I and Pammy are at home. The day is right nice overhead but very muddy and some cool.

Jan 17     We are choreing some this forenoon. This afternoon we began to cut stove wood for next winter. The day is very nice. The ground froze a little last night and is some muddy.

Jan 18     The same as above, cut wood. The day is very nice and pleasant.

Jan 19     The same till noon when it set in to rain and it rained all evening.

Jan 20     It rained most fo the night last night and today. The creek is very high, 6 or 8 inches higher than it was on the 10 days of this month. The water covers all of our wheat and the most of our land.

Jan 21     We cut stove wood. The day is right nice and warm but wet on the ground.

Jan 22     Rain all day and a part of tonight. The creek is rising fast.

Jan 23     We are at home. The creek is high but not so high as on the last time about 16 or 18 lower this time.

Jan 24     Edy and I took up a load of corn to the mill at N. Vernon to get feed for cattle. The day is very nice overhead but the roads are not good.

Jan 25     We are not doing very much. The weather is bad and stormy.

Jan 26     We are only choreing. The ground froze some last night and it is right cool this morning.

Jan 27     We butchered our hogs for our own meat this morning. The ground is froze some but not very much. It thaws out where the sun shines on the ground. It is a pleasant day today overhead but it is muddy underfoot.

Jan 28     We cut up our hogs and salted them down. Made sausage, tried out the lard. George Euler helped. The morning is right cool, the ground froze to bear up but the day is very nice.

Jan 29     We are fixing up the wire fence on stalk ground on old Sullivan Bottom that the water tore out. It is very bad time to work on the ground…so soft and muddy.

Jan 30     We are at home. George and Emma are here. The day is cloudy and snows a little.

Jan 31     We are not doing anything but the chores. It is quite cold and the ground is froze.

Feb 1     We are not doing any work except the chore work. It is right cold and mostly cloudy, the sun shows out by spells but very little.

Feb 2     We hauled two loads of corn from the pen in the bottom by the creek where the water got over the bottom of it. We quit hauling at noon because it is cold, the coldest day this winter, mostly cloudy.

Feb 3     I took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to get feed. This is a right cold day., the coldest this winter.

Feb 4     We cut some stove wood today. The day is very pleasant.

Feb 5     We hauled four loads of corn over to Hayden to Hillerman at .25/bu. Made 106 bus, the four loads. The day is cloudy and cool. It is thawing some.

Feb 6     We went to church. The day is nice. We stopped at George's. Joe fell through the ice.

Feb 7     We took up 2 loads of corn to N. Vernon to sell. The day is nice and pleasant.

Feb 8     Took 2 loads of corn to Matt Mornen this forenoon. This afternoon hauled the last of the wet corn home. Day is nice.

Feb 9     We are cutting some stove wood for next winter. The day is very nice and warm. The frost is about out.

Feb 10     We cut some more wood this forenoon. This afternoon Maw and I went to N. Vernon. The day is very nice and warm.

Mar 30     We turned the wire fence across the field at the bottom of the hill, the thicket, meadow next to the Hush? Land. It was some cool today and snowed some this afternoon. Sold Jack horse today for $70.

Mar 31     We went down and finished our wire fence this forenoon. This afternoon trimmed up our locust trees over the creek. This is a right nice day.

Apr 1     We went over to Zion church today to the ordination of Brother Marten. A right nice day.

Apr 2     We went down below Jim Canfield's in the hollow to take out some logs out of the branch this forenoon. This afternoon went to church. The day is nice but some cool.

Apr 3     We went to church and Lawrence and folks came here. George's and the Swarthout girl are here. Day is nice.

Apr 4     It rained some this forenoon. We are not doing much. This afternoon dug out some stumps on Long Bottom. It turned cool this evening.

Apr 7     Joe and Edy took off our hogs to Lovett to Mornen and Trapp. I went to the sale at Bolses(?) in Marion Twp. The day is right nice.

Apr 8     We are making a wire fence across at the bottom of the hill next to Tull's.

Apr 9     We hauled out manure this forenoon. This afternoon went to N. Vernon mill with a load of corn for feed for the cattle. Day is nice.

Apr 10     We went over to Harrison Spencer's to a birthday dinner. The day is some cloudy and a few sprinkles of rain.

Apr 11     Edy and Joe took up 2 loads of wheat to N. Vernon mill to Ebert's, got .90/bu. I sowed clover seed over where the water covered it. This is a nice day. Brought home 2 loads of tile to put in where George put in corn.

Apr 12     The same as yesterday. Hauled wheat and tile and got done, number of bushels, 131 4/9. Then plowed the garden. Day very nice.

Apr 13     We are making some garden and planted some potatoes for the first this morning, then it set in to rain. This afternoon went down to fix the crib at John James, it busted. We put on the top wire on the fence below John's.

Apr 14     We went down on the pipe stem piece to put up some wire fence that the creek took down. It set in to rain and we came home.

Apr 15     We went down and fixed the fence below this forenoon. This afternoon we hauled out manure. Day nice.

Apr 16     We piled up logs and drift on the Long Bottom all day. It has been a nice day.

Apr 17     We are at home. I went up to Mr. Otis' this afternoon to see him. He is very poorly at this time. Day is nice.

Apr 18     I went to old Vernon to mill with a load of corn and oats for feed for the cattle and paid the first half of taxes, $143. Day is cloudy.

Apr 19     We piled up drift on corn land. Day is cloudy.

Apr 20     We hauled out some manure this forenoon. This afternoon broke some stalks and raked some for the first. The ground is wet, too wet to break. Day is cloudy and cool.

Apr 21     The same as above this forenoon. This afternoon commenced to break for corn for the first. Weather is damp and cool.

Apr 22     The boys are at the plowing on the Betsy Bottom. It is plenty wet. I finished planting potatoes today. It is dark and cloudy.

May 7     I went to N. Vernon, took up a load of corn to get feed for the horses and wheat for bread. This is a cool day but it cleared off this afternoon and is warmer since the rain. The creek is high today. The water went across the Long Bottom where we had broke for corn and the ground is wet.

May 8     Maw and I are at home. Edy and Pamma went over the creek in the boat to church. The creek is past ford. Joe went out to Lawrence's to take home Herbert. This is a nice day.

May 9     We hauled down some manure on the land where George is going to put in corn this forenoon. This afternoon hauled down some tile to put in.

May 10     I am down where Woodson is putting in tile. The boys are plowing below on the Liew Bottom. Wet to plow, the ground is full of water.

May 11     The boys are hauling out some manure on the sandy places this forenoon. This afternoon plowed below the tile. Men quit and went home, too wet and sandy.

May 12     The boys took off the white cow and calf to Hayden to Charley Beaty to ship to Cincinnati. We are choreing this evening. It rained most last night and it is too wet to plow.

May 13     We planted the first corn this afternoon. It is only dry enough yet. It is drying slow.

May 14     We got the Long Bottom all planted and the Betsy Bottom this evening. This is all we have planted yet. Ground dries slow.

May 15     We went over to H. R. Gannon's, Sebe Ewing and Lis went and George Euler and Emma. This is a nice day and warm.

May 16     Edy planted the piece across the creek by Jerrie's this morning. Then this afternoon went down to plow below. We have about 35 acres yet to plow. I am filling up the tile ditches. Day is nice.

May 17     Plowing below. I am hoeing some potatoes and choreing. The weather is nice now and is some warmer.

Jun 1     We commenced to plow corn for the first this year on the Long Bottom. The weather is nice, a shower of rain is needed.

Jun 18     Commenced to cut wheat. Sam Young is cutting. The boys are below plowing corn on the second time below. The day is warm and quite dry.

Jun 19     We are at home. The day is nice but need rain.

Jun 20     We are cutting wheat and plowing corn. Warm and dry.

Jun 22     I and Len Canfield are hoeing out weeds out of the corn. The boys are helping George to plow some corn to get him to haul hogs. Weather dry.

Jun 24     Commenced to plow the Long Bottom corn, 4th time today. Weather is dry.

Jun 25     Plowing corn and about done at home on the 4th plowing. Edy and I went to N. Vernon this afternoon. Still dry.

Jun 26     We are at home and Allen and wife are here today. We got a big rain this evening.

Jun 27     We are choreing some. Ground is too wet to plow from the rain last evening.

Jun 28     We took off our hogs to Lovett, we sold to Marnen. The day is very nice. We allow to put up hay this afternoon.

Jul 1     We finished our hay at home this forenoon. This afternoon worked in corn below. Very warm weather.

Jul 2     I went to N. Vernon this forenoon. This afternoon went to church. The boys went to help Sebe to thrash this afternoon. Very warm.

Jul 3     We went to church, Children's Day tonight. Weather nice but dry now.

Jul 4     We are working in corn, most done plowing.

Jul 5     The same as above, at corn. Weather nice.

Jul 6     We cut grass below on the 7 Acre piece and put up hay. Nice time for hay.

Jul 7     The same as above, at hay. Need rain.

Jul 8     We did not put up hay, it looked like rain and we did not cut only a little to finish up the 7 acre piece and worked in corn.

Jul 9     We hoed weeds out of corn below on the lower piece this forenoon. This afternoon put up the rest of the 7 acre piece. Weather dry, no rain for 2 weeks.

Jul 10     Maw and I went out to Lawrence's. Day is nice but still dry.

Jul 11     We are at work at hay.

Jul 12     The same, at hay below. Still dry dry weather.

Jul 13     Still at hay and got all done on the bottom.

Jul 14     I went to N. Vernon to get the tires on wheels. The boys finished the hay.

Jul 15     We helped Tull to thrash his wheat and Allen Shepard today. Warm and dry.

Jul 16     We commenced to thrash our wheat this morning and thrashed till noon. This afternoon the machine broke down and we quit till it is mended. It is very warm.

Jul 17     We are at home. The day is some cloudy. It rained some this morning but not much.

Jul 18     We went to the funeral of Mrs. Ewing. She was buried. We came home and we thrashed out some more wheat this evening. Day is right nice.

Jul 19     We finished thrashing our wheat at 11 o'clock then the machine went to Sam Young's and then to Anthony Gaughan's. We helped to thrash. We had 553 bushels of wheat. The day is right nice but dry, need rain.

Jul 20     We helped Fisher and Otto Hess and Billy Boner to thrash. Day is warm and dry yet.

Jul 21     We are not doing very much this forenoon. This afternoon we cut down some weeds and hoed some corn out below on lower piece. It is very warm and still dry.

Jul 22     Edy and Joe went out to help Lawrence to thrash. I am choreing around some. It is still dry and warm.

Jul 23     I went to N. Vernon and old Vernon. The boys came home from Lawrence's at noon, got done thrashing his grain. Weather is warm and dry.

Jul 24     We are at home. Day is warm and still dry. We need rain very bad.

Jul 25     We are hauling off corn to Ebert's of N. Vernon at .35/bu for 500 bushels. We hauled him 2 loads today. It rained a nice shower afternoon. Need more.

Jul 26     Hauled four loads today. Henry Sullivan died this morning. Weather warm.

Jul 27     The same today, hauling corn. The weather is warm.

Jul 28     The same, hauled corn till noon. This afternoon it rained. Henry Sullivan was buried.

Jul 29     We took up 2 last loads of corn to the mill. This is all we sold to Ebert's, 500 at .35/bu.

Jul 30     We trimmed some hedge this forenoon. This afternoon we began to plow for wheat for the first time. It has not been enough rain yet, too wet to plow.

Jul 31     We are at home. Weather is nice. We are getting some nice rain now a days.

Aug 1     I am trimming some hedge, the second time trimmed this year. The boys are plowing for wheat. There was a nice rain this morning.

Aug 2     Still plowing and I am mowing down weeds and briars. Weather is nice.

Aug 3     The same today as above. Weather is nice.

Aug 4     We went to the Fair at N. Vernon. Day is right nice.

Aug 5     The boys are plowing. I went to N. Vernon this afternoon and brought home the new Sera rig I had bought off Tripp yesterday.

Aug 6     The boys went to Cominsky to the picnic. I am plowing below. Day is right nice and warm.

Aug 7     We went to church. Day is nice.

Aug 8     Joe went away this morning. Edy is mowing down weeds on wheat stubble this forenoon. This afternoon it rained.

Aug 9     We are mowing down some weeds and plowing some.

Aug 10     The same as on yesterday.

Aug 11     We are plowing down on the old pasture next to Bertram. The weather is warm, needs rain more.

Aug 12     We went to N. Vernon, the show is there today. We came home and we or I mowed down some weeds on wheat stubble.

Aug 13     Edy is finishing mowing down weeds on the wheat stubble. I am digging the potatoes in the garden. Weather is nice.

Aug 14     We are at home most of the day. This evening we took a ride out in the new rig.

Aug 15     We were measuring out corn to renels(?), 2 loads. One to Butcher at Vernon, one to Andy Haley. We cut some bushes in the thicket this afternoon. Day is nice but warm.

Aug 16     We cut some more bushes on the thicket. The day is nice.

Aug 17     The boys went down below to plow. It is most too dry too plow on this piece. Needs rain.

Aug 18     The same as above and this afternoon it set in to rain and they quit for the day.

Aug 19     Went to plow this afternoon, the creek backed out from the rain above.

Aug 20     Plowing below on the old pasture. Rain made it plow better.

Aug 21     We are at home. Boys went to Camp Meeting. Day is nice but warm.

Aug 22     We are plowing same.

Aug 23     We are harrowing on the wheat ground. Weather is very warm.

Aug 25     Edy took a load of hogs to Lovett for George Euler. I went to N. Vernon. Joe is plowing below. Weather is right nice. We got plenty of rain now.

Aug 27     We took 2 loads of corn to Vernon to Goff at .35. Weather is nice with plenty of rain.

Sep 1     We hauled some gravel this forenoon. This afternoon took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Platter's. Will Perry was buried today.

Sep 3     Hauled enough gravel by noon today. This afternoon Joe took up a load of corn to N. Vernon to Ebert's mill. I and Maw went to church this afternoon. Weather warm.

Sep 4     We are at home. Rain this morning and this evening. We did not get to church.

Sep 5     Edy and I commenced to cut scorn on the Long Bottom. It rained a little this morning. Joe went down to Charley Hess's after some rock for the road, hauled 2 loads and quit.

Sep 6     Cutting corn. Weather is nice.

Sep 7     Still at work on the corn and Will Welsh came here to cement the porch floor.

Sep 10     We shucked out a little corn out of shock for feed for the pigs for the first time. This afternoon the boys went down on the lower piece by Bertram to harrow. Sam and Loot (Luke) Spencer came here today from Kansas. The weather has been cool for a few days.

Sep 11     We are at home. Day is nice.

Sep 22     We are only a choreing. It rains this morning and is very wet.

Sep 23     Edy and I went to N. Vernon to mill this forenoon. This afternoon Joe and Edy cut corn on the George piece where we wanted to sow wheat. The ground is wet.

Sep 24     We shucked some corn out of shock to feed the hogs this forenoon. This afternoon we cut corn on the same as above.

Sep 25     We are at home and John Spencer is here. Big rain last night and the creek is up today and the ground is very wet.

Sep 26     We cut some corn on George's piece so we can sow wheat, got done.

Sep 27     We took up 20 hogs to Lovett this morning. Sold to Mornen, 3 1/2 a hundred. Day is nice.

Sep 28     We, I and Maw and John Spencer went to Seymour to the Street Fair. The day is very nice.

Sep 29     I got home from Hayden this morning from the Street Fair on yesterday. The day is nice and I am not doing much. Shepard's, Tull Sullivan and Allen Shepard are here. The boys went to Seymour to the Fair. Day is nice.

Sep 30     We are drilling in wheat this side of the Betsy Bottom on the Six Acre piece. It sprinkles rain most all day and cloudy. I and Maw went up to Tull's.

Oct 1     John Spencer started home today. I took him to N. Vernon.

Oct 2     We went to church. The day is nice but it keeps warm and the ground is wet. We can not get our wheat done, too wet.

Oct 3     We shucked corn in shock on Long Bottom to feed the pigs on this forenoon. This afternoon put in the rest of the wheat on next to Betsy Bottom. Wet time, rain tonight again.

Oct 4     I and Joe went to Vernon. I paid the last half of taxes. Rainy weather and ground wet, can't sow wheat.

Oct 5     We are only choreing. We shucked out a little corn out of shock. It is very damp and some moldy from the wet time.

Oct 6     Joe is hauling gravel on the road. Edy and I are cutting down the hedge on the old Sullivan Bottom where the water spoiled.

Oct 7     The same as above, we got the hedge done at noon. Edy went to N. Vernon this afternoon. I cut briars. Brought home the two heifers from the Liew farm with 2 young calves. Ground is wet. We are not done sowing wheat yet. Too wet.

Oct 8     I and Maw went to N. Vernon, took up some chickens. Edy is hauling gravel on the road. It has been a very dark week and the ground is wet.

Oct 9     We are at home and Harrison Spencer and folks are here today. The day is nice.

Oct 10     At work at the porch helping to weatherboard up. Harrowed some this afternoon and went and brought over the drill from Hedge's to drill tomorrow.

Oct 11     Very wet this morning, big rain, too wet to sow wheat. We put on the roof on the porch this afternoon.

Oct 12     We got on the rest of the roof and I took up the roofing tools to N. Vernon. Billy Boner is boarding it up, most done. The day is nice but the ground is wet, too wet to sow wheat.

Oct 13     We are at work on the porch repairing some and Joe is painting some. Day is cool. Edy took up a load of corn to Bob Wrape this afternoon.

Oct 14     I and Edy took up 2 loads of corn to N. Vernon this forenoon, one to Wrape, one to Ebert's, .30/bu. Day is quite cool. We tried to sow some wheat this afternoon but too wet yet.

Oct 15     We are only choreing. Ground is wet.

Oct 16     We are at home and Lawrence and folks are here, George and folks. Day is nice.

Oct 17     Big rain last night and the ground is wet.

Oct 18     We are only choreing. It is a wet time. We are working around the house repairing some.

Oct 19     We are hauling gravel on the road and shucking corn out of the shock, Edy and I. Ground is very wet and we cannot finish our wheat at all.

Oct 20     Edy and I shucked corn out of shock this forenoon. This afternoon we hauled out manure. Joe hauled gravel on the road. We went over to the church tonight to hear Mon Swarthout perform. It is a dark night.

Oct 21     We have been choreing most all day. It has been rainy most of the day, slow rain falling and dark.

Oct 22     We all of us, shucked corn out of shock this forenoon. This afternoon I went to N. Vernon to mill. Edy hauled the corn in, Joe helped Sam Young.

Oct 23     We are at home. The day is nice but the ground is quite wet for there has been a great deal of rain fell this fall.

Oct 24     We began to gather corn on stalk on the Long Bottom for the first. Edy and Joe are gathering, got in 100 today.

Oct 25     The same as above until 2 o'clock when it set in to rain and they quit the corn and it rained all the rest of the evening and still rains yet at 7 o'clock.

Oct 26     Worked in shock. Cool and windy.

Oct 27     Joe and Edy are at the corn. Day is nice. First big frost last night, froze ice on water and the ground was some frozen. I am sorting corn.

Oct 28     Gathering corn on stalk on the Betsy Bottom. Done on stalk on Long Bottom. Weather is nice overhead but the ground is wet. Big frost this morning again.

Oct 29     The same as above, at corn and Joe hauled in the pumpkins this afternoon. I am sorting corn. Frost this morning. Very nice day overhead but the ground is wet.

Oct 30     We went over to church today. This is the beginning of Protracted Meeting. The day is cool.

Oct 31     We finished sowing wheat for this year on the Long Bottom. Joe is gathering corn on the Betsy Bottom. Day is very nice.

Nov 1     Gathering corn over the creek at Jerrie's, first there. This morning I am sorting it.

Nov 2     The same as above at the corn. The weather nice. Melting is till going on.

Nov 3     Gathered corn over the creek at Jerrie's this forenoon. Got most done. Went down on the Liew land and gathered this afternoon. Got 3 twenty bushel loads. Lawrence is helping today. Nice day.

Nov 4     Same as above, at the corn. Nice weather now.

Nov 5     Gathered corn till noon. It rained too much this afternoon to gather. Lawrence went home. I went to N. Vernon this forenoon, it rained.

Nov 6     Maw and I went to the funeral of Leidy Simon, the rest of the folks went to church. Creek is not fordable this morning. Cool day.

Nov 7     Gathered corn, Joe and Edy. Big frost this morning. Nice day overhead, ground is wet. Church at night.

Nov 8     The same as above till noon, then Edy and I went to Hayden to the election. Joe gathered corn alone. Day is nice.

Nov 9     Rainy day, nothing done, choreing a little. It rained most of tonight.

Nov 10     Wet this morning and the creek is up high and the ground is wet. We hauled out a few loads of manure out of the sheds on the field by the house. Dark cloudy day.

Nov 11     Worked at corn in shock. Ground is wet from so much rain and the creek was high. It got out some and west ten or twelve shocks and we had to shuck them for feed.

Nov 12     The same and Joe and I hauled in fodder this forenoon. This afternoon we hauled in the dry corn and the wet corn on the Betsy Bottom. Ground is very wet.

Nov 13     We are at home and John James and Beck and Ed James & wife are here. The day is dark and cloudy and sprinkles a little rain.

Nov 14     We worked in shock all forenoon. This afternoon hauled in corn and 2 loads of fodder, then went across the creek at Jerrie's and got the last of the corn over there. Day has been cloudy and cool.

Nov 15     Gathered corn on the Liew land and Billy Boner helped, first day for him. Got five loads, 25 at a load. The day is nice but the ground is wet. The corn is wet where it is down, creek has been over it.

Nov 21     Gathered corn all day, got 6 loads, 25 a load, finished upper piece and got 15 bu from the lower piece. Day has been very nice for gathering.

Nov 22     Cold this morning and some sleet on and snows some this forenoon and is cold.

Nov 16     The same as above, at the corn on stalk and Forest Moore set in this afternoon to help to gather. Rain this evening.

Nov 17     Working in shock all day, 5 loads. Boner and Forest Moore are helping on Long Bottom, all done but seven shocks.

Nov 18     Gathering on the stalk on the Liew Bottom about 1 or 2 days on this piece to finish yet, then we will go on to the lower piece. Ground is very wet yet. Day has been nice.

Nov 19     Still gathering corn today. Day is very nice.

Nov 20     We went down to Allen Shepard's. The day has been nice.

t gather any corn this forenoon. Got one load this afternoon and quit. Cold.

Nov 23     We gathered 7 loads today on lower piece again. Cold this morning, the coldest his fall yet. Ground is frozen right hard on top.

Nov 24     Gathering corn and Sam Young is helping with 2 teams. The morning is cold and right cool all day. Thawed a little.

Nov 25     At the corn and got in 7 loads and Sam Young gathered there making 10 in all. It was right cool this morning but a nice day.

Nov 26     I went to N. Vernon to mill and to get Tom and Queen shod. This is a very stormy day and cold. Too cold to gather corn. We are not at the corn today.

Nov 27     We are at home all day. Day is very nice, some cold but it is quite pleasant.

Nov 28     At the corn today and got in 6 loads this afternoon. It set in to snow most of the time. Have got a little below the walnut tree, all below yet to gather.

Nov 29     We dug some potatoes this morning and it set in to rain and it was so much we quit and gathered the rest of the corn on the Betsy Bottom of 14 bushels. This afternoon we took over 3 head of cattle to pasture at Jerrie's and Joe and Forest cut the elm tree out of the creek.

Nov 30     We worked in the shock on Long Bottom and finished all there. Then came up and shucked out on George Euler's piece along the roadside till noon. This afternoon went down on lower bottom and got 2 loads below walnut tree. The day has been mostly cloudy.

Dec 1     Gathered corn on lower bottom below the walnut tree. There is a good deal of the corn down and wet from the creek getting over it, 3 or 4 weeks ago. About 2 more good days, we will get done there. It is frosty in the morning.

Dec 2     Gathering corn below. Frosty morning, nice overhead.

Dec 3     Gathering corn as above and the day is nice. I and Maw went to church this afternoon.

Dec 4     We are housed up today, it is snowing fast all day and there is no church. Very stormy.

Dec 5     The snow is 6 or 7 inches deep but not very cold. We are not doing anything but he chores.

Dec 6     The same and nothing done. The snow melts a little in the day but it is quite deep.

Dec 7     The snow mostly on the ground yet and it snowed some more this morning. We are only choreing.

Dec 8     Doing very little. Butchered 1 hog then hauled 2 loads of wood home from the woods. Snow is still on and the day is right cold.

Dec 9     We are at home doing the chores. The day is right cold, quite cold this morning.

Dec 10     We went to N. Vernon and went to the Institute awhile. The day is quite cold and the snow that fell on Sunday is mostly on the ground yet. This has been a right cold week.

Dec 11     We are at home, Maw and I, the rest are off on the creek on the ice most of the day. Weather is warmer today.

Dec 12     I went to old Vernon to the sale of Daily's. It snowed the most of the day but not cold.

Dec 13     I went out on Graham to Dave Roseferry's to get a hog off him, so I got a pig of about 100 weight off him. This is a right cold day and snow for very good sleighing.

Dec 14     I am choreing some. Boys are helping to get some wood for Allen Shepard. The day is right cold. The coldest this morning, this winter.

Dec 15     We are choreing around. The boys went over to Sebe Ewing's and got his hog this morning. This afternoon all went to N. Vernon but myself. I am home and it is right good sleighing.

Dec 16     We are trying to do something for my sick colt, Nancy that was taken sick on yesterday evening and died at noon today from the effect of colic. The boys are helping George to finish shucking corn on stalk today. It is warmer and thaws right smart.

Dec 17     We all of us, went down on the lower piece to gather corn next to the byo. We got four loads. The snow is on the ground but is melting off everyday. Ebert Shepard is helping. We have about 3 more loads there yet to get. It is badly down.

Dec 18     We are at home. The day is mostly cloudy but he snow is thawing slowly away.

Dec 19     We are not doing much, it is rainy and wet and the snow is going off fast and at noon the ice is running out of the creek. It is rising fast and still more rain coming.

Dec 20     The same today, not doing much work. The creek is high this morning but is falling some and the ice is gone out all of it. The water was the highest this time this winter.

Dec 21     We went to N. Vernon. The snow is all off now.

Dec 22     We shucked out some corn on the shock this forenoon. This afternoon went down ont eh lower bottom below John James' and got a load by the byo where the water was over it. It is very muddy time to get it.

Dec 23     We shucked down on same as yesterday, 2 loads more this forenoon. All done now down there but one small load left. Very wet and muddy time on the ground. Nice day overhead today. Dick Gibbs came home today.

Dec 24     We shucked corn out of shock this forenoon, 21 shock on the George Euler piece. This afternoon we hauled in corn and fodder. It froze some last night but it thaws today and is cool. The ground is very soft. We are all done but about 3 loads at this time.

Giles Spalden is not expected to live this evening.

Dec 25     We are at home. The day is cool, froze a little last night. Thaws some but no snow on the ground.

Dec 26     We went to the funeral of Giles Spalden (Spalding?). He was buried today over the creek. It is a raw chilly day with the ground frost some.
Dec 27     We shucked corn out of shock on the George piece and got it done. All done for this year. A little fodder to haul in yet. It was cool today and snowed some.

Dec 28     We all of us, helped George Euler to finish shucking corn. Dick helped. We got it done. The day is right cool with the ground some froze and fodder very dry.

Dec 29     We are repairing the wire fence where George raised corn so we can turn in the cattle. The day is nice and warm.

Dec 30     We turned in the cattle in this piece today. It rains most of the day. We are only choreing, it is wet.

Dec 31     We are not doing much. It is cold and the wind blows hard and is freezing some all day. The creek is up right well.
