L. May Burkhart
L. May Burkhart, 61, Marion, died at 2:55 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Burkhart was born in Hamilton, Ohio.  She married James I. Burkhart on April 20, 1959.  A homemaker, she was a member of the Fisher Body Sympathy Club.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Brenda Buckley, Wabash; Patricia Benedict, Somerset, and Melinda Bradley, Marion.
Two sons, Steve, Converse, and James E., Marion; two brothers, James R. Stidham, Marion, and Edward Stidham, Hamilton, Ohio; a sister Elizabeth Cramer, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services were Monday, Feb. 10, in the Hunt Funeral Home with the Revs. David Schramm and Douglas Phillips officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.

James Lea Riggs
James Lea Riggs, 67, Anderson, died Friday, Feb. 3, in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, after a brief illness.
Mr. Riggs was born in Fairmount Jan. 17, 1930.  He had been a resident of Anderson most of his life.
He was in business with his father as an auto mechanic and service garage operator until he went to work at Hunter-Weidner Chevrolet in 1966 as service manager.
He became Service Director when the new Chevrolet building was constructed and was employed there for over 30 years.
He had been a member of the Chevrolet Club and Only the Best Club.  He graduated from Anderson High School in 1948.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Riggs; two sons, Mike, Noblesville, and Brett, Placentia, CA; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; two brothers, Waldo Riggs, Rigdon, and Jack, Kansas City, MO; one sister Wealthia Featherston, Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and R. Lou Riggs and two brothers, John and Doyte, and a sister, Mary Ramsey.
Services were Friday, Feb. 7, in an Anderson funeral home.  Burial was in Park cemetery.

Donnabelle Allen
Donnabelle Allen, 75, long-time Summitville resident, dies in a car/pickup accident, Tuesday, Feb. 18, while vacationing in Punta Gorda, FL.
Rescue workers attempted to revive Allen, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allen's husband, Wilfred, 75, was driver of the 1997 Ford rental car, which apparently turned left at a red light on US 41 and into the path of a 1996 Mazda pickup around 7:41 p.m.
The impact heavily damaged the passenger side of Allen's rental car, spinning it around.  The pickup landed on the driver's side.
The other driver, Dennis Holly, 50, Punta Gorda, was treated at the hospital.
Allen was issued a citation for failing to yield the right-of-way.  The accident is still under investigation.
The funeral was held at an Alexandria funeral home.  Burial was in Vinson cemetery.


Joe M. Birch
Joe M. Birch, 77, Matthews, died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Marion General Hospital.
Mr. Birch was born in Blackford county.  He moved to Matthews from Paoli in 1937 where he attended high school.  He married Helen Markin on Aug. 24, 1957.
He was a truck driver with Craig Trucking from 1957-68 and with Hi-Way Dispatch, retiring in 1981.
A member of the Matthews Lions Club, he was with the Matthews Civil Defense for more than 20 years.
He was a former member of the Teamsters Union Local 135, Marion; Odd Fellows Lodge, Matthews; Redman Lodge, Conservation Club, and Moose Lodge, Muncie.
He was a member of First Community church.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Wendy King, Matthews; two stepdaughters, Diana Barnes, Muncie, and Kathy Petcabage, Noblesville.
A stepson, William Parks Jr., Kissemee, FL; a sister, Ruth Stanley, Hartford City, and eight grandchildren.
Services were held in an Upland funeral home with the Rev. Joe Ruberg officiating.  Burial was in the Matthews cemetery.


"Dee" Briles
Lawrence "Dee" Briles, 94, died Feb. 21 in Clearwater, Fl., following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 8, 1902 in Fairmount to Bert and Flora Briles.  He and his parents operated The Clover Farm Grocery Store for many years.
Survivors include wife, Virginia, Clearwater; son Larry Briles, Murphy, NC, and a daughter, Beverly Parks, Aiken, SC.
There will be no formal funeral services.


Sally L. Bussard
Sally L. Bussard, 59, Marion, died at 2:49 a.m. Saturday, March 1, from injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Mrs. Bussard was a lifetime resident of Marion.  She worked at Ball-Foster for 36 years.
She was a member of Glass Molders Workers International Union Local 38, the American Legion Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons.
Survivors include three sons, H. Eugene Jr., Daniel L., and Terry, all of Marion; a daughter, Tamara Tyre, Huntington; her stepmother, E. May Hines, Marion; her stepfather, H. Paul Baker, Marion.
Four sisters, Ethel Ireland, Marion; Linda Musser, Fairmount; Jackie Hillier, Hudson; and Shirley Baker, Hartford City; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services were held Tuesday, March 4, at a Marion funeral home with the Rev. Mark Atkinson officiating.
Burial was in Grant Memorial Park.


V. DeDecker
Vaughn E. DeDecker, 74, 5191E 1200 S, died at 10:45 Wednesday, Feb. 26, in his home.
Mr. DeDecker was born in Grant county and was a longtime resident.  A graduate of Van Buren High School, he married W. Geraldine "Jerry" Hayes on March 10, 1944.
He was a retired farmer and an avid sportsman.
He attended Center Christian church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary, Gaston; two daughters, Vonda K. Watson, Fairmount, and Karen S. Love, Marion; six grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Services were held Saturday, March 1, in Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas G. Jones officiating.
Burial was in the Park cemetery.


Dorothea Garner
Dorothea Dale Garner, 82, Chicago, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, en route to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Garner was born and reared in the Fairmount area.  Her husband, Thomas Milton Garner, preceded her in death.
She was a musician and taught piano and trumpet at the Gianinni Music Store in Chicago.  She and her sisters, Ruth and Esther Dale, were musical performers known as the Dale Sisters.
Her students won trophies and ribbons at McCormick Place for the Illinois Music Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Lee, Chicago; a son, Danny Do, Lake Geneva, WI; a sister, Ruth Dale, Chicago; a brother, Gregory Dale, Indianapolis; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Graveside services were Thursday, Feb. 27, in Park cemetery with the Rev. George Hostetter officiating.


I. Holloway
Imogene (Cuffel) Holloway, 69, 2240E 900 S, Fairmount, died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 in Community Hospital, North, Indianapolis.
Mrs. Holloway was born in Covington, KY and lived in the Fairmount area for several years.  She was a graduate of Shortridge High School.
A 1948 graduate of Earlham College, she also was a graduate of Butler University.
She married Merrill "Rusty" Holloway on June 11, 1950.  He died in 1980.
She retired from teaching school after 32 years, having taught at English High School, Clinton Central School Corp., Riley Elementary School, Frankfort, and at Marion schools, Clayton Brownlee and Southeast Elementary schools.
She was a member of the United Society of Friends Women, Earlham College Board of Trustees, Order of Eastern Star 277, Kappa Kappa Epsilon sorority, and Retired Teachers of Marion.
She belonged to Fairmount Friends Meeting and was a former member of her church's Ministry & Oversight Commission and current Fairmount Friends representative to Quarterly Meeting and Indiana Yearly Mtng.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Mills, Indianapolis; two sons, Douglas, Mabank, TX and Robert, Fairmount; and four grandchildren, Jared, Bart, Kayla and Allison Holloway.
Memorial service was Saturday, March 1, in Fairmount Friends Meeting, with Jackie Michaelson-Painter officiating.  Private burial was in Memorial Park cemetery, Anderson.
Hunt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


M. McGibbon
Marianna McGibbon, 83, Jonesboro, died at 2:14 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. McGibbon was born in Warren.  She was a longtime resident of the Grant county area.
A 1933 graduate of Van Buren High School, she was employed with Szabo Food Service at Marion General Motors until 1976.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marion.
Survivors include two sons, Sam, Fairmount, and Donald, Jonesboro; two sisters, Pauline Vaughn, Fort Wayne, and Martha Hannah, Rohrersville, MD; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services were Monday, March 3, in a Gas City funeral home with the Bishop William Huss officiating.
Burial was in Riverside cemetery.


Daniel D. Shipp
Daniel D. Shipp, 29, Frankton, died Sunday, Feb. 23, at his residence.
Born on June 18, 1967, he lived most of his life in Summitville.  He was a 1986 graduate of Madison-Grant High School.  He was employed three years at Elsa Corp., Elwood.
Survivors include his mother, Mary A. (Jones) Shipp, Summitville; five brothers William Starr, Hartford City; James R. Starr, Summitville; Ronald Starr, Alexandria; Robert Starr, Marion, and Eugene W. Shipp Jr., Frankton.
Two sisters and spouses, Elizabeth Rohrer, York, SC, and Susan Barton, Alexandria; and several nieces and nephews.
His father, Eugene W. Shipp, died in 1987.
Services were held Wednesday at Noffze Funeral Home with the Revs. Earl and Carolyn Christopher of Zion Chapel church in Elwood officiating.
Burial was in Forrestville cemetery.


"Jack" Tucker
Purvie "Jack" Tucker, 65, 537 Circle Drive, Fairmount, died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, Feb 23, in Community Hospital, Anderson.
Mt. Tucker was born in Earle, AR.  He lived in Grant county for the past 45 years.
He worked as a union carpenter for most of his life at Dana before retiring in 1977.  He was a member of the carpenter's union and the United Auto Workers.
He was a member of Woodland Hills Church of Christ, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Tolice; three daughters, Patricia "Dianne" Moss and Debbie Vermilion, both of Marion, and Donetta Parker, Fort Wayne; a sister, Vernice Davis, AR; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services were Wednesday, Feb. 26, in Marion with Galen Miller and Terry Slack officiating.
Burial was in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.

Ruth Chapman
Ruth Ann Chapman, 69, died at 6:25 a.m. Monday, March 10, in Northgate Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Chapman was born in Fairmount.
Survivors include three sons, William and James Chapman, both of Marion, and David Chapman, Kokomo; two daughters, Jane Gadbury, Hartford City, and Dora, Alabama.
A brother, Kenneth Spence, Fairmount; four sisters, Donna Clock and Marquerite Sellers, both of Fairmount; Francis Dickerson, Fort Wayne, and Roberta Barkdull, Plymouth; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and sever step-great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, March 13, in Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Galloway officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.



W. Fulkerson
William L. "Red" Fulkerson, 92, Fairmount, died Wednesday, March 12, at 11:20 a.m. in Twin City Nursing Home, Gas City.
Mr. Fulkerson was born in Breckinridge, KY, but was a longtime resident of the Fairmount area.
His wife of more than 68 years, Lela M. (Henderson), died in 1993.  He was employed by Ozz Relfe Trucking.
After retirement in 1966, he worked as a custodian for Bob Cline Ford.  He was a member of Back Lick Baptist church, Black Lick, KY.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Heiny, Fairmount; a daughter-in-law Marlene Fulkerson, Peachtree City, GA; six sisters, Emma Morris, Glendean, KY; Lorene Cravens, Rockport, KY; Beulah Champ, Marie Howery and Daisy Glenn, all of Junction City, KS, and Pauline Ashley, Burkburnett, TX; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, March 15, in Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. George Hostetter officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Elvis Hendrick
Elvis R. Hendrick, 85, Summitville, died Saturday, March 15, in Summit Convalescent Center after an extended illness.
Mr. Hendrick was born in Subtle, KY.  He lived in the Summitville-Frankton area since a940.
He was married to Mamie Hendrick, who died in 1984.
He retired in 1972 from Fisher-Guide, Anderson, after 28 years.  A member of United Auto Workers Local 663, he was a member of First Baptist church on Moss Island Road, near Frankton.
Survivors include two sons, J.D. Jr., Summitville, and Harold, Frankton; one daughter, Margaret Newton, Summitville; two brothers, Earl, Anderson, and Estle, Summitville.
Four sisters, Doris Salmon, Edmonton, KY; Lorraine Mroz, Anderson; Lucille Garrett, Frankton, and Hattie Wilson, Summitville; 12 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
 Services were Tuesday, March 18, in Noffze Funeral Home with the Revs. Leo Moore and Raymond Garrett officiating.
Burial was in Vinson Memorial cemetery.

L.M. Brewer, Sr.
Lester Meredith Brewer, Sr., 78, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Inez; daughter, Nancy McClanahan, Harpers Ferry, WV; son, Richard, Manama, Bahrain; son, Meredith, Houston, TX; daughter, Glenda Brewer, Sacramento, CA; daughter, Gale Alksne, Denver, CO and daughter, Pamela Wolf, Walled Lake, WI; and 10 grandchildren.
Born and reared in Fowlerton, he held a private pilot's license and entered cadet and pilot training in the Army Air Corps in August 1941.
Les served as a pilot during World War II, first as an instructor pilot and then overseas in the China-Burma-India Theater.
After flying 2300 hours and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Air Medals, he retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1972 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
After retiring he was active in the "Hump Pilots" Association and moved to Houston, TX in 1951 to enter the business community.
He joined Hughes Tool Co. in 1960 and was vice-president and controller when he retired in 1985.  He was very active in the National Association of Accountants and served as Houston president (68-69); Texas Council president (71-71); national director (73-75); and a national vice-president (77-78).
He was a member of the Stuart Cameron McLeod Society and received the Frank B. Kemp award from the Houston chapter.
Les was active in the Houston Chamber of Commerce.  In addition to his professional associates, Les was longtime member of St. Stephens Methodist church and active in the local Boy Scouts of America.
He was an ardent train buff, traveler, baseball fan, and lover of music-particularly swing and jazz.
Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 20, at St. Stephens Methodist church, Houston, TX.  Burial followed in Woodlawn Garden of Memories, Houston.


John L. Idlewine
John L. Idlewine, 94, rural Fairmount, died at 3:09 a.m. Monday, March 31, in St. Vincent Mercy Hospital, Elwood.
Mr. Idlewine was born in Tipton county.  His first wife, Esta F. Davis, died Sep. 12, 1956.
His second wife, Marquerith J. Bohnstedt, died April 19, 1987.  He was a retired farmer in the Rigdon area and was a member of Point Isabel Methodist church.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, JoAnn Royer, Frankfort, and Thelma Wood, Marion: a brother, Francis, Dundee; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, April 2, in an Elwood funeral home with the Rev. Carl Miller officiating.
Burial was in Brookside cemetery, Windfall.


J. Kirkpatrick
Joseph "Joe" Kirkpatrick, 71, Marion, died at 7 p.m. Monday, March 31, in the Bradner Village Health Care Center. 
Mr. Kirkpatrick was born in Marion and lived most of his life in the Marion area.  He was raised in the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors Home, Knightstown.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served five years as a surgical nurse at Brooks Army Base.  He was a retired truck driver with Commercial Motor Freight.
He had been employed at Marion Machine Foundry, Marion Tire and as a bartender at the Trade Winds Lounge.
He was a member of American Legion Post 10, AMVETS, Eagles, Moose and Shady Hills Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bess; three daughters, Joy Mauldon, Converse; Donna Perkins, Sweetser, and Lori Dean, Marion; two sons, Mark, Owingsville, KY and Bill, Van Buren.
Four brothers, Ace Robinson, Houston, TX; Earl Robinson, Fort Wayne, and Floyd Robinson Jr. And Jack Robinson, both of Marion.
Five sisters, Roberta Lindley, Fairmount; Doris Emmerd, Logansport; Phyllis Butche, Marion; Dorothy King, Parma, MI and Alberta Ankney, Jackson, MI; 19 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, April 3, in a Marion funeral home with Clifford Silverthorn officiating.
Burial was in Marion National cemetery with military rites.


Evelyn L. Tobin
Evelyn L. Tobin, 86, Fairmount, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in her home.
Mrs. Tobin was born in Fairmount.  Her husband, Wayne V. Tobin, died in 1988.
A homemaker, she worked as a clerk at the Grant County Assessor's office, retiring in 1967.
She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Reading Club and a volunteer at Fairmount Public Library.
She was a member of Fairmount Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Steele, Elkart; a son, Richard, Webster, NY; two sisters, Margaret Gavin, Fairmount, and Mary, South Bend; a brother, George Kind, FL; 1 sister-in-law, JoAnn Kind, FL; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, April 5 at Fairmount Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Hensley officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Donna L. Younts
Donna L. (Kirkpatrick) Younts, 75, Marion, died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Younts was born in Summitville and lived in Marion since 1945.  She retired in 1985 from Marion General Hospital as a registered nurse with more than 25 years of service.
A member of the Women of the Moose, she was a volunteer with the Grant County Literacy Council, Grant County Jail and Salvation Army Angel Tree.
She was a member of Sunnycrest Baptist church.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Todd-Mueller, Bartlett, IL and Jayne Goss, Marion; a sister, Etheral Mead, Eaton; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Services were Saturday, April 5, at a Marion funeral home with Nancy Rosinski officiating.
Entombment will be at a later date in the Garden of Memory, Huntington county.

C. Herbert Shafer
C. Herbert Shafer, 87, Marion, died at 3:58 a.m. Friday, April 11, in his home.
Mr. Shafer was born in Bluffton.  He was a longtime resident of Marion.  He married Vera I Nelson on December 10, 1933.  He was a mold-maker for Foster-Forbes Glass Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
He was past president of the American Flint Glass Bottle Blowers of America and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He was a member of Swayzee Street Brethren church, Swayzee.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Clayton H., Marion; two daughters, Madeline Morgan, Fairmount, and Susan Jane Calobrace, Marion; a brother Bruce Kern, South Whitley; 14 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Services were Monday, April 14, at a Marion funeral home with the Rev. Michael Tarner officiating and the Rev. Janet Luchs assisting.
Burial was in Garden of Memory cemetery.


Alma Rose Vinson
Alma Rose Vinson, 83, Summitville, died at 4:35 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in Summit Convalescent Care.
Mrs. Vinson was born in Wells county.  She was a 1931 graduate of Swayzee High School and a 1935 graduate of Indianapolis City Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Frank M. Vinson on June 25, 1935.  He died in 1960.
She and her husband had owned and operated the Vinson Funeral Home until his death.  She then worked as a nurse at Summit Convalescent Center.
She was a member of Summitville Order of Eastern Star and Summitville Methodist church.
There are no immediate survivors.
Memorial services were Thursday, April 10,in Summitville Methodist church with the Rev. Doug Jentsen officiating.  The body was cremated and the ashes interred at Vinson Cemetery.
A Greentown funeral home was in charge of arrangements.


Lillian A. Warren
Lillian Arlene Warren, 64, Fairmount, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in her home.
Mrs. Warren was born in Gatzke, MN.  She lived in the Fairmount area for 19 years.
She married Wilburn Warren Dec. 22, 1951, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church, Gatzke, MN.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Crystal Miller, Fairmount; a son, Rick, Converse; 
three sisters, Adeline Goolsby, Cicero; Mayme Hanson, Greenbush, MN, and Pearl Kinsey, CA.
Two brothers, Don Pierson, Burtonsville, MD, and Grant Pierson, Stilesville, and six grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, April 16, in Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas G. Jones officiating.
Burial was in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.


Logan B. Welch
Logan B. Welch, 86, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, in Marion General Hospital.
Mr. Welch was born in Fairmount and was a longtime resident of Grant county.
He retired from American Bank & Trust, now known as NBD Bank, Marion, and was formerly an employee at Bahr Brothers Manufacturing and General Plastics, both in Marion.
He attended the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include one son, Barry E., Gas City; a stepson, Jack Ellis, Kokomo; a stepdaughter, Violet Lewis, Huntington; a sister, Emma May Costillo, Seal Beach, CA; 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren ; and one great-great grandchild.
Services were held Tuesday, April 15, at a Marion funeral home.
Burial took place in Estates of Serenity cemetery.

Lila Belle Biniecki
Lila Belle Biniecki, 98, Marion, died Thursday, April 17, at the Flinn Community in Marion.
She was born June 5, 1898 in Bradner, Ohio and resided in Toledo for many years.  Lila was a member of Blessed Sacrament church.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Walter L. King, Sr., whom she married in 1913, and Peter Biniecki, whom she married in 1953; a son, Walter L. King, Jr.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Dr. Annabelle King, Seattle, WA; Walter L. King III, Indiana; Cindi King, Fairmount; Bill King, Stroud, OK, and Catherine Marks, LaFontaine; 21 great grandchildren, and 19 great-great grandchildren.
Services were held in a Toledo, Ohio funeral home.  The mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 21, in Blessed Sacrament church.
Interment was in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, Toledo.

Ruth I. Croussore
Ruth Iline Croussore, 80, Fairmount, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Croussore was born in Blackstone, Livingston county, IL.  She lived in Marion from 1933-1960 and in Fairmount since 1960.
She married Leslie Croussore May 13, 1935.  He died in 1992.
She worked as a nurse's aide from 1965-1980.  She was a member of the Salvation Army church, Marion.
Survivors include four sons, Omer L. and Michael L., both of Fairmount; Marvin E., Marion, and John R., Muncie.
Five daughters, Iline Davis, Marion; Georgia Watkins, Grand Island, NE; Marjorie Brown, Chesapeake, VA; and Marietta Butcher and Martha J. both of Fairmount; 22 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Services were held in the Salvation Army church, Marion.  Burial was in Estates of Serenity cemetery, Marion.


D.M. Holloway
D. Martelle Holloway, 83, Jonesboro, died at 5:16 p.m. Friday, April 18, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Holloway was born in Jonesboro.  She married Ernest Holloway, who died in 1969.
She owned and operated Glacier Farm Supply for several years.  She was a secretary for attorney Hewitt Carpenter for several years.
Active in the Republican party, she attended Holy Family Catholic church, Gas City.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Louise Courtney, Marion; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, April 22, in the Holy Family Catholic church with the Rev. A. L. Reemer officiating.  There was a scripture service Monday, April 21 at Hunt Funeral Home.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Erma F. Koontz
Erma R. Reece Koontz, 78, Marion, died at 1 p.m. Friday, April 18, in her home.
Mrs. Koontz was born in Benton Harbor, MI.  She lived in Marion since 1989, moving from Hartford City.  She was formerly a resident of Upland.
Survivors include five sons, Charles and Delmer, both of Marion; William, Fairmount; Roger L., Upland; and Ronnie, Shepherdsville, KY; a daughter, Roberta Nelson, Marion.
A sister, Myrtle Aspy, Marion; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, April 23, in an Upland funeral home with the Revs. Tim Cole and Jerry Galloway officiating.
Burial was in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.


Frances Peterson
Francis M. Peterson, 88, Marion, died at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, April 19, in Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion.
Mrs. Peterson was born in Fairmount.  She was a 1930 graduate of Marion College and was married to Lawrence Peterson on Nov. 7, 1933.
She was a member of Nazarene Church, Marion.
Survivors include her husband; a son, M. Herschel "Pete", Marion; a daughter, Judy Ackley, Marion; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.  
Services were Wednesday at Hunt Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Konkle and Mark Hinshaw officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Merrill Moorman
Merrill E. Moorman, 77, Middletown, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in his home.
Mr. Moorman was born in Tipton county.  He attended Fairmount schools and was a 1938 graduate of Swayzee High School.
A retired accountant for the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, his hobbies included photography.
He was an animal lover.
Survivors include five sisters.  Catherine Schmidt, Alexandria; Martha Groth, Swayzee; Velma Land, Straughn, and Gladys Markland and Geraldine Ruley, both of Gas City.


Sara K. Rumfelt
Sara Kay Rumfelt, 38, Jonesboro, died at &:41 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in St. Joseph Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Rumfelt was born in Marion.  She received an associate's degree in nursing from Tucker Area Vocational-Technical Center, Marion.
She attended Calvary Baptist church.
Survivors include her husband, Delon; a daughter, Charity Southwick, Jonesboro; a son, John Jacobs II, Jonesboro; a brother, Kevin Gear, Marion, and a grandchild.
Services were held Friday, April 18, in Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Allen Kahler officiating.
Burial was in Walnut Creek cemetery, Gas City.

Barney A. Butler
Barney A. Butler, Sr., 61, Van Buren, died at 4:22 p.m. Friday, May 23, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mr. Butler was a former resident of Fairmount.  He graduated from Mississinewa High School in 1953 and worked in production at Thomson Consumer Electronics, Marion from 1990-1994.
He had also worked at Kenney Bob Tire, Marion, for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Annamae; a son, Barney Jr., Van Buren; a daughter, Brenda, Van Buren; two sisters, Marylin Smith and Betty Fakes, both of Marion.
Services were held Tuesday, May 27 in a Gas City funeral home with the Rev. Mick Simpkins officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Robert M. Gaither
Robert M. Gaither, 82, Fairmount, died at 2:18 p.m. Saturday, May 31, in his home.
Mr. Gaither was born in Dyer and was a longtime resident of Fairmount.  He married Bonnie Vetor on March 17, 1933.
A retired employee of Dana, he played guitar and harp and at one time organized a country and western band.
He was a member of Fairmount Masonic Lodge and Fairmount Christian church.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Roberta Hoheimer, Fairmount; Carolyn Sue Wilson, Portage, MI; Kay Swartz, Morganton, NC, and Ann Stephens, Muncie.
Two sons, Paul, West Palm Beach, Fl., and Chuck, Wabash; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, June 3. In Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack St. John officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Norma Holloway
Norma J. Holloway, 70, Ocala, FL, died Sunday, May 25, in Marion House of Ocala.
Mrs. Holloway was born in Wells county and moved to Ocala from Marion in February 1969.  She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Robert; a daughter, Linda Hiatt, Fairmount; a son, Mike, Ocala, Fl., four sisters, Olive Clark, Marion; Blanche Hawkins, Fairmount, and Nell Oxley and Donna Jo Leas, both of Montpelier; two grandchildren and a great grandchild.
A funeral home in Ocala was in charge of the arrangements.


Charles E. Keefer
Charles E. Keefer, 73, Roanoke, died at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 24, in his home.
Mr. Keefer was born in Huntington county.  He was employed at Commercial Indiana Freight, where he was a driver and dockman for 33 years.
He was a member of Local 414 Teamsters Retiree Club.
Survivors include a brother, John E., Wabash; four half-brothers, Raymond Eugene, Summitville; Phillip Earl, Gatlin, TN; Lester Lee, Roanoke; Harold Wayne, Okeechobee, FL; and a half sister, Katherine Covey, Huntington.
Services were held Wednesday, May 28, in a Roanoke funeral home.  Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery.


Oscar H. Keith
Oscar Henson Keith, 80, Summitville, died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, in Summit Convalescent Center.
Mr. Keith was born in Jonesboro but reared his family in Fairmount and retired in Summitville.  He married R. Helen Royal on Oct. 28, 1938.
He was employed at Bell Fiber and Stewart's Furniture, both of Marion.  He was a life member of Fowlerton Lions Club, a volunteer Red Coat of Community Hospital, Anderson, and a member of the Iris Flower Growers Association.
He was an active member of Grant Methodist church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janet Eastburn, Anderson, and Karen Marshall, Marion; two sons, Gary, Anderson, and Roger, Lawrenceburg, KY.
Two brothers, William, Jonesboro, and Bernard, Conover, WI; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services were held Saturday, May 31, in Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Jackson officiating.
Burial was in Park cemetery.


Jamie Lunsford
Jamie O. Lunsford, 24, died May 28 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, after an extended illness.
He was employed at Hurt's Pallet, Summitville.
Survivors include his mother, Mickey Hughes; his father, David D. Lunsford; children, Haley Elizabeth Howard and Collin Matthew Lunsford; a brother, Travis Lunsford; maternal grandparents, Cona (Harper) and Raymond Winkle; maternal grandfather, Douglas Hughes; maternal grandmother, Betty Hughes; paternal grandmother, Barbara Wilson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and one nephew.

M. Roella Lykins
M. Roella Lykins, 43, Jonesboro, died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, May 22, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Lykins was born in Harlan county, KY.  She moved to Curtisville in 1959 and graduated from Tipton High School in 1972.
She married Michael L. Lykins on Dec. 9, 1978.  She was a member of Water Street Baptist church, Jonesboro.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Melissa, Meghan and Aimee, all at home; her mother, Pauline Anderson, Jonesboro; and five sisters, Arzella Huffman, Marion; Diane Wine, Jonesboro; Novella Roby, Elwood; Gwen Clark, Elwood, and Angie Wells, Fairmount.
Services were held Wednesday, May 28, in a Gas City funeral home with the Rev. Andy Elkins officiating.
Burial was in Riverside cemetery.


Scott J. Musick
Scott Joseph Musick, 25, Pierceton, died at 5:18 p.m. in Wabash County Hospital, Wabash.
Mr. Musick was born in Marion and was a former resident of Gas City.  He worked at Preferred Technical Group, Andrews, as set-up person in the brake department.  He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include a son, Brady Carl, Gas City; his mother, Pamela Shanks, Gas City; a sister, Marcie, Fairmount; paternal grandparents, Ottis and Donna Musick, Pierceton.
Maternal grandparents, Chuck and Ranola Spaulding, Gas City.
Services were held Tuesday, May 27, in a Gas City funeral home with the Rev. Kim Holloway officiating.
Burial was in Riverside cemetery.


Paul E. Pickering
Paul E. Pickering, 74, Summitville, died Tuesday, May 27 in his home.
Mr. Pickering was born in Howard county.  He lived in Summitville for 20 years.
He was a farmer all his life, and was superintendent at Moco Manufacturing, Alexandria, for 10 years, retiring in 1981.  He was a member of First Baptist church, Alexandria.
Survivors include his wife, Rose; three daughters, Vivian W. Mott, Greensboro, NC; Vicki D. Hiatt, Alexandria, and Claudia E. Gilliam, Elwood; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, May 29, in First Baptist church, Alexandria, with the Revs. Clifton Richardson and Cliff "Pete" Kelly officiating.
Interment was in Vinson Memorial cemetery.


Mildred Pierce
Mildred (Elwell) Pierce, 78, Fairmount, died at 5 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in her home.
Mrs. Pierce was born in Youngstown, Ohio.  She married Ralph Pierce on June 15, 1955.  He died in 1979.
A member of the Presbyterian church in Elwood, she served as an elder and deacon.  She and her husband operated the Midway Truck Stop.
She retired from First National Bank, Marion, in 1979.
Survivors include three sons, Greg, Fairmount; Randy, Elwood, and David Seaman, West Lafayette; one daughter, Deborah Clark, Knoxville, TX; two brothers, Jack Elwell, Dearborn, MI and Tom Elwell, Hampton, VA.
One sister, Helen Strom, Ishpeming, MI; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, June 3, in the Presbyterian church, Elwood, with the Revs. Julie Christensen and John Constant officiating.
Burial was in Knox Chapel cemetery.


Charles Showen
Charles L. Showen, 75, Marion died at 9:46 p.m. Saturday, May 24, in Marion General Hospital.
Mr. Showen was born in Marion and was a longtime resident.  He graduated from Marion High School.  He was an Army veteran of World War II and served 21 years in the Indiana National Guard.
He retired from Thomson Consumer Electronics.  He was a member of the Van Buren American Legion, the Samaritian Lodge No. 105 F & AM, Grant County Scottish Rite, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne and the Mizpah Temple of Fort Wayne.
He was a member of First Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Thelma; three daughters, Barbara Knight, Mier; Linda Rice, Willard, MO, and Frances Jacobs, Fairmount; a brother, Kenneth, Marion.
A half brother, James Boxell, Marion; a sister, Betty Cassidy, Marion; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, May 28, in a Marion funeral home with the Rev. William Fulda Officiating.
Entombment was in Gardens of Memory cemetery, Huntington county, with military rites.


Donald E. Sprong
Donald Eugene "Gene" Sprong, 67, Marion, died at 5:37 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in Marion General Hospital.
He was a life resident of Marion.  An Army veteran, he married Betty Arlene Case on Oct. 21, 1950 and retired in 1991 from Dana as a machine operator.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bob, Upland, and Russ, Matthews; three daughters, Gina Whelchel, Sue Simpkins and Lori Terry, all of Gas City; one brother, Dick, Marion; 16 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Private family graveside services were held Saturday, May 31, in Grant Memorial Park cemetery with the Rev. Mick Simpkins officiating.


Alan D. Tipton Jr.
Alan D. "A.J." Tipton Jr., 20, Marion, was found dead at 2:30 a.m. Saturday, May 24, in his home.
Mr. Tipton was a life resident of Marion.  A graduate of Marion High School, he was a member of the Explorer's Program of the Marion Police Department.
He enjoyed martial arts, in-line skating, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his parents, Alan D. Sr. And Lilly (Enyeart), Marion; a sister, Angel Scott, Marion; his maternal grandmother, Evelyn Stephenson, Marion; his maternal grandfather, Richard (Naomi ) Enyeart, Fairmount; paternal grandparents, Russell W. and Betty L., Marion; and his fiancee, Gina Most, Fairmount.

C. Alvin Wable
C. Alvin "Pop" Wable, 76, died Monday, May 26, in Community Hospital after an extended illness.
Mr. Wable was born in Anderson and was a life resident of Madison county.  He was a farmer and owner of Wable Construction Co.  He built Sun Valley Speedway, which is now Anderson Speedway.
Survivors include his wife, Owena; three sons, Leroy, Muncie; Terry, Marion, and Dennis, Dade City, Fl; four daughters, Roxanne Garrett, Alexandria; Nancy Mason, Marion; Deb Shelton, Upland, and Jill King, Fairmount.
Two sisters, Lucille Webb, Willow Branch, and Betty Ward, Noblesville; two brothers, Don and John, both of Anderson; 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lillie P. Hostetler
Lillie P. Hostetler, 90, Summitville, died Sunday, June 8, in Summit Convalescent Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. Hostetler was born in Summitville.  She was a life resident of the Summitville area and worked 45 years at Indiana Employment and Training Services, Anderson.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, Priscilla Club and Methodist church.
Survivors include five nieces and six nephews.

Gary L. Roy
Gary L. Roy, 47, Fairmount, died at 1:45 a.m. Friday, June 6, in his home.
Mr. Roy was born in Marion.  He was a life resident of Grant county and a 1967 graduate of Fairmount High School.
He married Marie Hazzard on May 14, 1988.
For 17 years, he had been a truck driver for the Thomson Consumer Electronics, where he had perfect attendance for 11 years.  He was a member of Elks Lodge 195 and the Teamsters Union.
He enjoyed gold and old cars and attended Westminster Presbyterian church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carrie, Marion, and Christine Kochvar, at home; a son, John Kochvar, at home.
His parents, Howard and Lucy, Fairmount; three sisters, Alice Fisher, Fairmount, and Vickie Click and Laura, both of Marion; a brother, David Matthews; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, June 9, in a Marion funeral home with the Rev. Andrew Schramm officiating.
Burial was in Grant Memorial Park cemetery.


Virginia L. Spears
Virginia Louise Spears, 60, Pennville, died at 1:38 p.m. Sunday, June 1, in Ball Memorial Hospital, Muncie.
Mrs. Spears was born in Summitville.  She attended Montpelier High School and married Willard "Bill" Spears on Oct. 12, 1990, in Gatlinburg, TN.
She was a machine operator at Indiana Corrugated, Warren.  A former employee of Torchlight Restaurant, Fiat, she attended Pennville Methodist church.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Jeff Taylor, Redkey; Gene Morehouse, Roll, and Ronnie Morehouse, Dunkirk; four daughters, Betty Thornburg and Connie Hicks, both of Hartford City; Penny Taylor, Redkey, and Kathy Morehouse Risinger, Montpelier.
Two step-daughters, Jenna Ford and Rita Kerrigan, both of Portland; one brother, Dee Anderson, Montpelier; 28 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, June 4, in a Montpelier funeral home with the Rev. K.M. Lord officiating.
Burial was in the IOOF cemetery, Montpelier.

Carlysle Atteberry
Carlysle L. "Bud" Atteberry, 86, died Monday, July 14, in Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness.
Mr. Atteberry was born in Kansas City, MO.  He had lived in Alexandria since 1981 and in Indianapolis for 30 years.
He earned a bachelor's degree in business from Southern Methodist University, Dallas.  He married Marjorie Rose 48 ½ years ago.
He was self-employed in the insurance business, retiring in 1981.  He was a member of Delta Upsilon, college fraternity, and of the Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior.
Survivors include his wife; a son, John, Fairmount; two daughters, Annabell Howell, Ashland, KY, and Dr. Linda Atteberry, Fort Riley, KS; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, July 17 in Lutheran Church of Our Blessed Savior, Marion, with the Rev. Joseph Stark III officiating.
Burial was in Marion National cemetery.


Christina L. Ellis
Christina L. Ellis, 60, Anderson, died Saturday, July 19 at Community Hospital, Anderson, after a brief illness.
She was born Sep. 26, 1936, in Hamilton county.  She was a former Alexandria resident and lived in the area most of her life.
She retired from Alexandria Convalescent Center in 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Elaine Motweiler, Clarksdale, MS, and Anna Ball of Anderson; four sons, Tom Ellis and Kenny Ellis, both of Alexandria, and Kevin Ellis and Jeff Ellis both of Anderson.
Three sisters, Annie Gray of Summitville, Linda Martin of Tipton, and Vivian Groover of Frankton; a brother, Harold Rigney of Summitville; 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hervey Ellis, in 1977; her parents, Allen L. Rigney and Estella Dorothy Cox; a son, John Ellis, in 1990; and a grandson, Joshua Ellis in 1984.
Services were Tuesday at an Alexandria funeral home with the Revs. Earl and Caroline Christopher officiating.
Burial was in East Fort cemetery, Tollesboro, KY.




Wayne E. Grim
Wayne E. "Grimmy" Grim, 77, Summitville, died at 8:55 p.m. Saturday, July 19, in Community Hospital, Anderson.
Mr. Grim was born in Point Isabel.  He was a longtime resident of Madison county and moved from Anderson to Summitville in 1978.
He married Virginia Allison on Feb. 25, 1939.
He was a longtime farmer employed at Delco-Remy, Plant 8, as a supervisor for 34 ½ years, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the Summitville Lions Club and the American Indian Council, Lebanon, and loved camping and fishing.
He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God church, Anderson.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Eddie, Elwood; a daughter, Judy Kelich, Elwood; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, July 23, in an Alexandria funeral home with the Revs. Walt Weaver and Greg Allison officiating.
Burial was in Thrailkill cemetery.


Evelyn A. Kilgore
Evelyn A. Kilgore, 72, Summitville, died Wednesday, July 16, in Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Kilgore was born in Summitville.  She lived in Mishawaka for several years before returning to Summitville in 1979.  She married Earl R. Kilgore 54 years ago.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Geneva E. Millage, Mishawaka; two sons, Rex A., Silver City, NM, and Harvey D., Mishawaka; two daughters, Linda C. and Janet S. both of Gaston.
A stepson, Larry L., Elkart; a stepdaughter, Janice E. Chaplin, Marion; two sisters, Judy K. Huffer and Marjorie Dumms, both of Mishawaka; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Ruth Ann Stover
Ruth Ann Stover, 57, Matthews, died at 6:20 a.m. Monday, July 14, in her home after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Stover, born in Upland, was a longtime resident of the Upland and Matthews areas.  She married Robert Stover Oct. 15, 1955, in Hartford City.
A production manager with Central Indiana Warehouse, she attended Upland Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert Jr., Albion; three daughters, Vickie Pulley, LaFontaine; Teresa Haines, Markle, and Cathy Smithson, Matthews.
Her mother, Mary Felver Besser, Upland; five  brothers, Bill Felver, South Whitley; Glenn Felver Jr., Hartford City; Mike Felver, Gas City; Bobby Felver, Fairmount, and Butch Felver, Riverton, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held at an Upland funeral home with the Rev. Jim Miller officiating.
Burial was in Matthews cemetery.


Rickey Woodward
Rickey Lee Woodward, 38, Marion, was found dead at 4:33 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, in his home.
Mr. Woodward was born in Ardmore, OK.  He was an Air Force veteran, serving from Feb. 16, 1978 to June 13, 1980.  He worked at Thomson Consumer Electronics.
He was a member of American Legion Post 95, Jonesboro.
Survivors include a daughter, Gabrielle Faulk, Fairmount, his father and stepmother, David L. and June, Fairmount; his mother Judith Ann McKnight, Peru; a brother, Michael A., Radcliff, KY; and a sister, Sherry Ann Sherman, New Boden, IL.
Services were held Friday, July 18, in Hunt Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence E. Hand Jr. Officiating.

Mickey D. Fowler
Mickey D. Fowler, 14, Marion, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday, July 31, in Marion General Hospital.
Mickey was a life resident of Marion.  He was an Eastbrook Junior High School student, having completed the eighth grade.  He was a member of the Goldwing Riders Association for two years and attended Fairmount Pilgrim Holiness Church.
Survivors include his father, Sandy, Marion; his mother, Diana, Russellville, AL; a sister, Kristy Lemon, Fairmount; a half sister, Hailey Hollins, Russellville, AL; paternal grandfather, Norman, Converse; paternal grandmother, Elsie Miller, Marion; and maternal grandmother Eleanor Payne, Marion.
Services were Sunday, Aug. 3, at a Marion funeral home, with the Rev. Craig Line officiating.
The body was cremated.


Janice Furnish
Janice M. Furnish, 62, Gas City, died at 5:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in Marion General Hospital.
Mrs. Furnish was born in Jinken Jones, WV.  She lived in the Grant county area for the past 30 years.
She has worked as a carton assembler at Glass Containers and was a member of TBN and the Glass Bottle Blowers Association.
Survivors include her husband, Jack E. Watson; two sons, Glen Jr., Converse, and Howard E., Fairmount; two daughters, Patricia Horn, Jonesboro, and Sandra E. Shannon, Fairmount.
Two stepsons, Mike Watson, Florida, and Joe Watson, Fairmount; two stepdaughters, Linda Copeland, Point Isabel, and Karen Watson, New Castle.
A brother, Gene Harris, Pineville, WV; a stepsister, Helen Navy, Welch, WV; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 4, in a Gas City funeral home with the Revs. Mike Brinker and Russell Rowe officiating.

Theodore D. Hutchison, 25, Fairmount, died July 25, 1997.
Mr. Hutchison was born July 13, 1972 in Sarasota, Fl.
Survivors include his son, Teddy; three brothers, Sam Hutchison, Fairmount; Brian Hutchison, Katy, TX; Richard Wright, Marion.
Five sisters, Donna Jackson, Brinkley, AR; Barbara Thomas, Fairmount; Vanessa Hutchison, White Pine, TN; Carol Ann Johnson, Abilene, TX and Tamme Pinkston, Albany, IN.
Services were held Monday, July 28, at Hunt Funeral Home, followed by burial in Park cemetery.
Pallbearers included Checko Herera, Marion; Lupe Cadina, Marion; David Powell, Arkansas; Brandon Hutchison, Arkansas; David McAlpin, Ohio, and James Coburn, Jr., Arkansas.


Catherine Shaw
Catherine Shaw, 80, Gas City, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in the Twin City Health Care Center.
Mrs. Shaw was a longtime resident of the Gas City and Fairmount areas.
She had lived for 20 years in California.  She was a former manager of the Spencer Hotel, Marion.  She waitressed in several Marion-area restaurants and worked as a cook at White's Institute, Wabash county.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Davis, Perris CA; and three nieces, Louise Stephenson, Fairmount, Pat Stephenson, Muncie, and Farrel Sharp, Florida.
Graveside services were Monday, July 28, in Riverside cemetery with the Rev. Mick Simpkins officiating.


Bruce R. Stanley
Bruce R. Stanley, 57, Alexandria, died Monday, July 28, in Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.
Mr. Stanley was born in Alexandria.  He was a lifelong resident of the Summitville/Alexandria area.  He married Jean Cumberland on Aug. 27, 1994.  He was a brick mason for over 40 years.  He had owned and operated his own masonry company.  He was the masonry foreman on Methodist Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital and buildings at Eli Lilly and Co.  He also was the foreman on other Indianapolis-area buildings including Market Square Arena, water treatment plants and the Zion Lutheran Church in Decatur.  He also was a private pilot and member of the Local No. 4 of the Brick Mason Union, Indianapolis.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven, Summitville, and Kevin, Alexandria; two daughters, Anita Keaton and Christy Staggs, both of Summitville; two stepdaughters, Kim Holse and Michelle Lovellette, both of Fort Wayne; his mother, Vieva (Hunt) Irwin, Summitville; three brothers, Phillip and Jon, both of Summitville, and James, Alexandria; three sisters, Dixie Ryan and Judy Martin, both of Summitville, and Denise Lane, Jonesboro; two half brothers, Leroy, Alexandria, and Dwayne; and two half sisters, Patti Pyle and Lori, both of Summitville; and 19 grandchildren.
Graveside services were Friday, Aug. 1 in Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery, Summitville, with Clara Thompson, Anderson, officiating.
Noffze Funeral Home, Summitville Chapel, was responsible for the arrangements.


Grover H. Teague
Grover H. Teague, 69, Marion, died at 1:50 p.m. Monday, July 28, in Marion General Hospital.
Mr. Teague was born in Kingsport, TN.
He had lived in Marion Since 1956.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He married Josephine DeBruler on May 2, 1959.
He retired from the Marion General Motors plant in 1991.  He was a member of Samaritan Lodge No. 105, F&AM Grant County Scottish Rite, Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne, Order of Eastern Star No. 21, Jonesboro, and the Van Buren American Legion.  He also was a member of the Sunnycrest Baptist church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Smith, Marion; a daughter, Linda Morris, Jonesboro; three brothers, Robert and Henry both of Indianapolis, and Jack, Kingsport, TN; five sisters, Irene Harris, Bulls Gap, TN, Jennie Kollar, Stedman, NC, Mary Commer and Julie Ealey, both of Kingsport, TN, and Clara Snelling, Summitville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Thursday, July 31, in a Marion funeral home with the Rev. Garland Morrison officiating.
Burial was in Grant Memorial Park cemetery, with military rites
