Johnathan Rolend Butts was born July 23, 1839 and died April 23, 1916, aged 76 years and 9 months. He died on the farm where he was born, where he had spent his entire life, except two years. In 1895, he married Hester Mariah McKinney and together they pursued the journey of life for 51 years. To this union were born 11 children, five daughters and six sons, three having preceded him in death, namely, Maggie M, Elva Lewis and Martin W. Butts. He leaves to mourn his loss, his faithful wife, 8 children a number of grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother. Uncle John Butts was a whole souled man, always ready with a cheerful word and a kindly greeting. The greatest aim of his life was the welfare of his children of whom he was justly proud. Eight children, all grown to honorable manhood and womanhood, live to honor his memory. Peace to his ashes and comfort for the sorrowing. The funeral services were held at the residence of the deceased Monday at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. OP Cooper, assisted by Rev. Huddleston. Interment in Rockfield Cemetery.
