HILLSBORO – Edward “Newt” Brown, 71, Hillsboro, a retired Alcoa employee, died Saturday morning in Lakeview Hospital in Danville, Ill., following a lingering illness. Born in Hillsboro, he was married at Lafayette in 1931 to Mabel E. Derringer, and she survives. He retired from Alcoa in 1972. Mr. Brown was a member of Hillsboro United Methodist Church where he was an organizer of the Men's Compliment Club and a former member of the men's chorus. He also served as Sunday school superintendent for 10 years and was a member of the Builders Class. He also was a member of Cain Township Home Extension Club and had attended Purdue University for two years. Surviving with the widow are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Rosalie) Neal of Crawfordsville, and Mrs. Harold D. (Eleanor Ann) Cox of West Lebanon; a brother, Paul Brown of Mulberry; and two sisters, Mrs. Fleta Riebe of Kissimmee, Fla., and Mrs. Helen Bennett of Grovertown. – jlr
