Relatives here received word Friday of the death of Mrs. Catherine BROWN, aged 88 years who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lum Bennett of near Delaven, Ill Thursday night. She had been ill for a few days and death was due to pneumonia. Her grandsons, Virgil and Alton Brown left here Friday evening enroute to Delavan to attend the funeral service which was held Sunday. Mrs. Catherine Nine Brown, was the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Nine and was born Feb 16, 1840 at the old Nine homestead NW of Hillsboro. She was the only daughter of a family of 10 children. She grew to womanhood in this vicinity and was united in marriage to Jacob Brown who preceded her in death several years. The greater part of her married life was spent in the vicinity where she died. She is survived by one brother, David Nine of Hillsboro who was unable to attend the funeral service. She leaves one son, Daniel Brown of Emden, Ill and two daughters, Mrs. Lum Bennett of near Delavan at whose home she died and Mrs. Lafayette Hess also of Delavan and several grandchildren.
