Mark B. Briney a well known retired farmer died Wed afternoon at 4 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. WC Hushaw in this city. Mr. Briney was spending the winter in Jacksonville, Fla when he became ill, suffering a severe heart attack and his daughter went at once to his bedside and as soon as Mr. Briney was able to travel brought him home since which time he has been confined to his bed. Mark Briney was born in Shawnee Township Aug 2, 1840 and was the son of William M. Briney who built one of the first mills on Shawnee. Mr. Briney grew to manhood on the homeplace. Early in life he took up farming and continued this in an active way until 1902 when he retired. About two years ago he left that community and came to Attica to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Hushaw. Mr. Briney was one of the best known farmers of this county he was public spirited and did much for the welfare of his community. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil War he enlisted in Aug 1862 in Co C 86th Ind Vol. Inf and was mustered into service at Indianapolis. He was sent to the Army of the Cumberland where he saw much hard service. He was discharged at Nashville Tenn Feb 19, 1863. Mr. Briney was married in 1869 to Mary E. Manlove who preceded him in death several years ago. To this union three children were born, two died in infancy and one Mrs., Okie Hushaw survives. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 from the residence of WC Hushaw in Attica. Rev. JG Campbell will conduct the service. Burial will be made at Beulah cemetery. - kbz
