Newtown – Gerald Keith Smith, 74 a former Newtown resident died Monday Nov 12, 2001 in his residence in Pompano Beach, Fla following a lengthy illness. He was born June 30, 1927 on a farm outside Newtown in Fountain County. He graduated from Richland Township HS, Newtown and Indiana Business College in Indianapolis. Mr. Smith was a Navy veteran. He worked at Ford Motor Co for several years then moved to Florida where he was self-employed until retiring. He was a former member of the Newtown Methodist Church and Quiggle-Palin American Legion Post 394 and Masonic Lodge 205 both in Newtown. Survivors include a son, Gary K. Smith of Pompano Beach; one sister, Fauniel S. Gard of Lafayette; and three brothers, Mark A. Smith of Rockville, Md; Lowell A. Smith of Newtown and James D. Smith of Chattanooga, Tenn. Services were in Pompano Beach. - kbz
