JAMES ARTHUR PARHAM

Birth: Jan. 10, 1917 Iowa, USA Death: Jul. 3, 2006 Crawfordsville Montgomery County Indiana, USA Obituary: "James Arthur Parham, age 89, resident of Veedersburg, died at 11:45 p.m. EDT Monday, July 3, 2006, at Hickory Creek, Crawfordsville. Mr. Parham was born Jan. 10, 1917, at Koszta, Iowa, to Thomas P and Edna L Haskins Parham. On Sept. 30, 1940, he married Eleanor V. McDermond at Marion, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving: one daughter, Janice (John) Hazlett of Russellville; two sons, Stephen (Diane) of Robinson, Ill., and Thomas (Elizabeth) of Roscoe, Ill.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. During World War II, Mr. Parham enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the U.S. Signal Corps and attached to an aircraft repair ship on which he served as a radar technician. He served in the South Pacific, Philippine Islands and Japan. He was a graduate of Marengo High School in Iowa and attended the University of Colorado. Mr. Parham graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis. He owned and operated Parham Home Appliance and Parham Funeral Home for many years. He enjoyed playing golf and gardening and spending time with his family. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. EDT Friday, July 7, 2006, at the Dickerson Funeral Home in Veedersburg with the funeral service at 8:15 p.m. EDT with Revs. Rick Williams and Richard Throckmorton officiating. Cremation will follow and a committal service will be scheduled at a later date at Rockfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Down's Syndrome Association of Central Texas, 3710 Cedar St., Box 3, Austin, Texas."
