Letter from WWII folks
Source: The Veedersburg News Friday May 11, 1945
Dear Mrs. Boggs:
Last week three copies of the News arrived. It was very nice to have them awaiting me when I woke up. I was especially happy when I read that "Sparky" Songer is safe.
For the past three weeks I have been on night duty working from 7-7. Twelve hours seem rather long at times, but the fellows are grand and it is indeed a privilege to be able to care for them. I have been in charge of four wards, two plastic surgery, one nerve surgery and one orthapedic. You total this up and find you have around 250 patients.
Due to the increase of nurses we do get a night off each twelve days. Tonight happens to be mine but as yet I don't know how to spend it. We do go to Washington DC frequently, Martinsburg the nearest city has very
little in the form of entertainment. They don't seem to be too fond of Army personnel.
I do want to thank you for the paper. It is certainly appreciated. You and Bert will both be long remembered by each members in the service. If it is such a welcome article here in the states heavn only knows what it means to the fellows across.
Sincerely,
Betty J. Goodson
