STAMBAUGH, William Allen - Chief Yeoman US NR POW --He was listed as a Navy prisoner of war on the 3rd of July in 1943 but was killed 24 October 1944 and thereafter listed on the Navy rolls as "unrecoverable." He is buried or has a memorial in the Manila American Cemetery, Manila, National Capital Region, Philippines.

Chief Yeoman William Allen Stambaugh of Hillsboro, a Japanese Prisoner since May 8, 1942 has been reported killed. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stambaugh former residents of Hillsboro who reside at Covington have received a message from the Navy Department stating he was killed Oct 24, 1944 when he was being moved from a prison camp on the Philippines.
The Japanese were moving the prisoners from Bilbid prison camp on an unidentified ship which was sun an allied submarine. The report was received through captured records. Yeoman Stambaugh who has served in the US Navy for 17 years was captured at Corriedor on May 8, 1942. A number of prison cards had been received from him but no word had been received for several months. He is survived by his widow, who resides in San Francisco, Calif; the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stambaugh, Covington; two brothers, John of Hillsboro and Russell of the US Army stationed in Cincinnati, Ohio, and one sister Miss Esther Stambaugh of Danville, Illinois
