Sgt. Charles R. Shuler, Wallace, was Killed In Action over Okayama, Japan June 29, 1945, according to word just received by his widow, Mrs. Geraldine Shuler from the War Department. He was previously reported missing.
Sgt. Shuler enlisted in the Army Air Corps in April 144. He received his training as radio operator at Sioux Falls, SD and Tuscson, AZ where he was assigned to the crew of a B-29 bomber. They were stationed at
Tiniain after May 29, 1945.
The Sgt and all 11 of the crewmen were killed on his 5th mission. He had volunteered for the mission, replacing the reglar bombadier, who was ill.
Sgt. Shuler was born May 27, 1921, at Wallace, son of Eston and Oda Roach Shuler. He attended local schools and gradated high school in 1939. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church,. He was
preceded in death by his mother, who died in 1921 and a sister, Virginia Leah.
Surviving are the widow, a daughter, Patricia Lynn, 2; his father, two sisters, Lillian and Mary Rachel and an aunt, Apalma Rudisill, who had cared for him since his mother's death. All are of Wallace. --- kbz
