Pvt. Charles C. Peyton, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peyton, of Covington Rt 2, died Dec 26 at Santa Maria, Italy.  This word has been received by the parents in a message from the War Department.

Covington—The body of Pvt. Charles C. Peyton arrived in Covington at 11:06 a.m. Friday morning from Naples, Italy.  Peyton was the son of Charles and Catherine Smith Peyton of Covington, R. R. 2. He was born July 6, 1925 in Warren County and died Dec. 26, 1945 in Italy, the result of a heart ailment. Besides the parents, he is survived by brother, Earl Peyton, at home; and one sister, Mrs. Vivian Schultz of Danville, Illinois; and a niece, Connie Sue Schultz. He attended Perrysville High School and entered the service October 12, 1943. He was overseas 20 months and served in the 337 regiment of the 85th Infantry Division.   The body will be taken to the parent’s home until the hour of the funeral, Saturday, February 26, at 2 o’clock at the Union Christian Church with Reverend C. R. Tallman officiating and burial in Lower Mound Cemetery. Fulton-Banta Post No. 291, American Legion of Covington, will conduct military honors at the grave site. Bodine and Shelby, funeral directors, are in charge of arrangements.  Pallbearers, high school buddies of Peyton, are: Jack Dennis, Joe Howard, Carl Hicks, Max Owens, Dick Martin and Bill Dinsmore. – S&E
