WWII-KIA-MARSH, Wayne

Source: Veedersburg News  Sept 29, 1944

Word was received this week by Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Marsh of Veedersburg that their son, Sgt. Wayne Marsh, had died as the result of a plane crash at the air port where he was stationed in England. They learned of the death last week but had no details at that time.. The  plane was described as a bomber, fully loaded and St.Marsh was evidently standing nearby the scene of the explosion.  Wayne was one of Veedersburg's most popular young men. Before his induction into the army on June 29, 1942, he was employed as bulk manager of the Farm Bureau Oil Department.  Wayne was a good friend to every one and a highly intelligent man. Since his induction into the Army, he has written several letters to the Veedersburg News on his various observations.  These descriptions would rival those of a professional news correspondent.  Wayne was a typical GI Joe. He had unshakeable faith in democracy and was blessed with an American sense of humor which built up his faith that all was well.  Born Dec 24, 1915, the son of Elmer and Esta Gookins Marsh, he graduated from the Veedersburg HS in the class of 1934. He was married to Miss Dorothy Gardner of Covington in April 1938. Wayne's army training started at Ft. Bragg, NC then transferred to Camp Ripley, Minnesota.  Before being sent overseas in January 1943, he was at Lockbourne AF, Columbus, Ohio.   --- transcribed by kbz
