Source::Scrapbook of Rose Marie Sutherlin's provided to kbz by Betty Dotson - thanks so much :) p 42

Harold E. Landes, depot agent at Veedersburg for the Nickle Platte Railroad has received a telegram from the War Department advising him of the death of his son, William Landes, age 25 in a Japanese prison camp. Mr. Landes had previously been advised that his son had been taken prisoner by the Japanese during the fall of Corregidor. His death occurred June 16.  Location of the prison camp in which he died is not known to Mr. Landes.  The son enlisted four years ago in the Coast Artillery as a radio operator. His father had not heard from him since Pearl Harbor. He is survived by his father and his sister, Mrs. Helen VanDorn of Veedersburg.
William Landes is the first Veedersburg boy to lose his life in World War II. - kbz

Note: Found nothing about this fellow :( - also spelled Landis - nothing- anyone know about him? He deserves better
