Pfc Donn G. Bishop, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Bishop of Mellott has been Missing in Action in Italy since February 23, according to a message received by the parents from the War Department Tuesday. The
last word received from Pfc Bishop was a letter written in Italy on February 14. He entered the service on March 4, 1843 (sic - 1943) and landed in Africa in September. Since November 5, he had been with the Fifth Army in Italy. A graduate of Mellott HS, Pfc. Bishop later studied journalism for two years at Indiana University before entering the army. Mellott, Aug 17 – Pfc G. Donn Bishop, prisoner of war in Germany broadcase over the radio Aug 10 according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George L. Bishop. The Bishops received a telegram from the provost general at Washington DC stating that their son had broadcast a message to his folks, saying he was all right. The Bishops have also received about 85 cards and letters from over the US from persons who heard the broadcast.

Mellott, June 15 – Pfc G. Donn Bishop, reported missing Feb 23 after a battle in Italy is a prisoner of war in Germany according to a message received Thursday by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. George Bishop. A card written by Pfc Bishop and sent to his parents through the Red Cross informed them that he was well and was being transferred to another prison camp in Germany.

Crawfordsville, Ind April 12 – Mr. and Mrs. George L. Bishop of Mellott northwest of here were notified yesterday by the War Department that this son, Private First Class Donn G. Bishop has been missing in Italy since Feb 23. Private Bishop entered service March 4, 1943 and was sent overseas in September of that year. His first assignment was in North Africa but since November he had served with the Fifth Army in Italy. He is a graduate of Mellott HS and a former student at Indiana University.
