Crawfordsville - Ralph Skaggs, storekeeper, 2C USN of Waynetown, reported Missing In Action in the Pacific Theater of Operations Oct 25, 1944 has been declared legally Killed In Action by Navy Department. Relatives were informed today According to the Navy announcement, Skaggs lost his life when an aircraft carrier the Gambler Bay was sunk during a surprise attack of Samar Island in the Philippines. Memorial services will be held for him in the Graham Creek Baptist Church near Dupont Dec 16. Survivors include the widow, who is a teacher in the Knightstown schools; a sister Mrs. Fredrick J. Oglesby, Indianapolis and two brothers, Carl Skaggs of Waynetown and Frank Skaggs of Crawfordsville.
NOTE: Son of Samuel and Gertrude Stockdale Skaggs born 7 October 1911 Waynetown Indiana.
Died 25 Oct 1944 in Samar, Phillippines.
Married Mildred Joyce Vinson 21 Sept 1935.
Buried Butlerville, Jennings County, Indiana.
