NOTE:  Korean War – not really sure why he is listed for our county – his obit has no reference to Fountain but will include it here on case he had relatives here or lived here briefly but I don't think he did - anyone know?

Remington, Dec 30 – Pfc. Merle D. Scott, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Scott, living three miles southwest of here was killed in action in Korea Nov 29, according to word received from the Department of Defense in Washington.  The young soldier lost his life during the retreat of American forces from the Manchurian border. The youth enlisted in the Army at the age of 17, soon after his graduation from Morocco HS. He arrived in Japan in April 1949, and was assigned to service in Korea last September.  He was in the 7th Regiment of the Second Division.  He was born at Valley Park, Mo. Survivors besides his parents are three sisters and a brother, all living at home.  Memorial services were planned for Sunday in the Remington Christian Church with Rev. Omer Collins officiating.
