HERBERT SMITH -- Son of Thomas W. and Rose Smith; born September 5, 1897, near Covington, Ind. Laborer. Enlisted in Indiana National Guard, Company H, 151st Infantry, May 31, 1917, Terre Haute, Ind. Sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind. Transferred to Camp Shelby, Miss. Overseas in June, 1918; assigned to Baker's Company No. 327, Quartermaster's Corps. Died of pneumonia February 18, 1919, in Base Hospital, No. 103. Buried in French Cemetery of Dijon, Cote d'Or.
