Mrs. WT Wilkinson rec'd a second government telegram from the war department Thursday morning stating that private Claude WILKINSON who was reported wounded April 13 died April 20. This is the 2nd Fountain County man to fall in action and both have been Hillsboro boys who enlisted in the Marine at the same time at Indianapolis last May. His death following so closely upon that of his comrade, Harry Williams who lost his life April 3 has indeed cast a gloom upon Hillsboro and vicnity. Claud Wilkinson the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. WT Wilkinson was born in Jackson Twp, Fountain County near Wallace and was 22 years old; he went to HIllsboro with his parents when he was 9 years old and that has been his home since. When war was declared he heard the call of his country and patriotically responded and was among the 1st soldiers of the American expeditionary forces. He was a very popular young man and will be much missed by his many friends. He was a bro-in-law of Russell Dwiggins theyoung aviator of Waynetown whose death a few weeks ago was the result of an aeroplane accident at Ellington Field, Houston Tx. He is survived by his parents, one brother, Orville and 5 sisters: Mrs. Elmer Lambdin of Veedersburg; Mrs. Rynear Rynearson of Shirley; Mrs. Clifford McClure; Mrs. Mabel Dwiggins and Mrs. Forest Bolan all of Waynetown survive. -- kbz
