Estelle E. Newman, 79, of West Eighth Street died at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 1999, at her home following a brief illness.
Mrs. Newman retired from the Marshall Field Co. in Chicago where she worked as a computer operator for several years. She interpreted for deaf students in the Goshen school system before moving to Columbus. In Columbus she worked as a rotating teacher's aide, worked at Ivy Tech and also as an interpreter for the deaf for Cummins Engine Co.
She was a 1937 graduate of Central High School in South Bend and attended Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point.
There will be no funeral or calling. Burial will be today at Greenlawn Cemetery at Hartford City.
A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. April 17 at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Myers officiating.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County.

Mrs. Newman was born in Elkhart Oct. 15, 1919, the daughter of James Garfield and Marjorie MacLaughlin Fuller. She married Victor L. Newman June 9, 1946, in South Bend. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Beverly Jameson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons, Edward Newman of Columbus, James Newman of Thousand Oaks, Calif., David Newman of Washington, D.C., and Richard Newman of Fairfax, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Fuller.

Victor L. Newman, 84, formerly of Eighth Street, died at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Newman was a truck driver for 35 years, retiring in 1980 from Wackenhut Security where he worked for seven years. He moved from the Elkhart and Bristol area to Columbus eight years ago.
He attended school in Chrisney, was a veteran of the Army and a member of George Washington Masonic Lodge in Bristol.
There will be no funeral or calling. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery at Hartford City.

Mr. Newman was born in Duncomb, Iowa, June 11, 1918, the son of John W. and Carrie Estella Barker Newman. He married Estelle Fuller June 9, 1946, at South Bend.
Survivors include sons, Edward S. Newman of Osgood, James A. Newman of Thousand Oaks, Calif., David L. Newman of Elkhart and Richard V. Newman of Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Beverly Jameson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Veta Bess of Anderson; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife on April 1, 1999, and three brothers.
