DR. H. E. SMALL is a native of Indiana's city of railways, born October 28, 1862, and is a son of Rev. Gilbert and Francis (Garrett) Small, who are residents of Idaville, this county., When the subject of this sketch was about six years old, his parents removed from the above- mentioned city to the enterprising village in which they now reside, and there young Small began his school life. When seventeen years of age, he became a pedagogue, and taught two terms of district school, one in Monon Township, and the other near his home, in Jackson Township. At the age of fifteen, he began the study of his chosen profession, in the office of Dr. Black, at Idaville. Here he remained several summers, and in the spring of 1880 he continued his studies in the office of Dr. S. R. Cowger, at Monticello, and during the winters 1881-S2 and 1882-83 attended lectures at the Eclectic Medical Institute at Cincinnati, Ohio. In January, 1888, Dr. Small located in Wolcott, under the firm name of Cowger & Small. Dr. Small is a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. |
