JAMES McCOMB was born in Madison County, Ohio, March 15, 1850, and is the youngest of the six children born to Robert and Maria N. (Hair) McComb, natives respectively of Ireland and Ohio. Robert McComb was reared and educated in Ireland until thirteen years of age, when he went to Scotland; remained there until eighteen, and then came to the United States and settled in Madison County, Ohio, where he married, bought a farm and resided until about 1853, when he moved to Benton County, Ind., where be purchased another farm, on which he resided until his death, March 14, 186; his widow died April 4 of the same year, and both were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. James McComb received a good common school and academic education. and at the age of thirteen left his home and went to La Fayette, where he worked as a teamster a few months and then went to Benton County, where he farmed by the month for three years; he then went to farming and stock-raising on his own account until the spring of 1874, when he came to this township and engaged in stock-dealing for two years, and then bought the 160 acres on which he now lives. March 2, 1882, he married Rebecca J. Brandon, a native of Independence, Warren Co., Ind., and this union has been blessed with one daughter- Nellie D. In politics, Mr. McComb is a Democrat.
