JOHN, W. MCALLISTER was born in Jefferson County, Ind., July 9, 1840, and is one of the nine children of Alexander and Eliza (Rawlings) McAllister, natives respectively of Kentucky and Louisiana. Mr. McA. was reared a farmer and lived at home until the fall of 1861, when he enlisted in Company B, Twelfth Indiana Volunteer Infantry, for one year. August 11, 1862, he enlisted in Company K, Eighty-second Indiana Volunteer Infantry, for three years, or during the war, and was honorably discharged in June, 1865. At Atlanta, in 1864, he was commissioned First Lieutenant, and was placed in command of a company ,in the Twenty-third regiment from Missouri, but in the same brigade. During all his time of service, he was on active duty, and was never once injured or called for hospital relief. On his return, he engaged in the drug business for three -.years at Dupont, and was then occupied with other pursuits until 1874, when he came to this township and reengaged in the drug, trade at Idaville, where he has been doing a prosperous business ever since. he has given the study of medicine some attention, and during the term of 1879-80, attended a course of lectures at the Indiana Medical College. Mr. MCA. was married in 1875 to Miss Hattie Gibson, born in Idaville January 1, 1852, and daughter of Cyrus and Matte S. (Droke) Gibson, natives of Tennessee. Mr. MCA. is a Republican, an Odd Fellow, and Treasurer of the Building Committee that has charge of Odd Fellows' Hall, now in process of erection at Idaville. Mrs. MCA. is a member of the United Presbyterian Church. Alexander McAllister became a resident of Jefferson County, Ind., in 1812, was there married, and there died at the age of seventy-four
