ANDREW HANNAH was born in Greene County, Ohio, May 6, 1816, and was the fourth of the eight children born to Robert an(] Elisabeth Hannah, natives of Pennsylvania and Kentucky, and of Irish extraction. Andrew was reared a farmer. He came with his father to this county in 1883, and settled in what was afterward known as Jackson Township, being the third or fourth permanent settler. He was present at the first town meeting, and cast the only Whig vote polled. His first Presidential vote was given for Gen. Harrison in 1840, but on the formation of the Republican party he joined its ranks. He came to his present home in the spring of 1841. December 5; 1837, he married Miss Jane, the daughter of Thomas and Phoebe Barnes, natives of Ohio, who came to this county in 1834. To this union were born eight children, of whom only three grew to maturity. Mrs. Hannah died March 9, 1855. The same spring, Mr. Hannah married Margaret, the daughter of John and Lovina (Schora) Dimmit, and born in Pennsylvania April 15, 1821. To this union were born seven children, six of whom are still living- Adam F., Gilbert C., Joseph, Gillespie, Mary A. and Maggie E. Mr. Hannah is now the second oldest resident of this township, and owns upward of 900 acres of land. In 1875, he founded a sect known as Reformed Presbyterians, with a membership of forty-five, and from his own funds erected a church edifice which cost about $2,000, and has contributed about $400 annually to the support of the church ever since. Mr. Hannah has served as County Commissioner one term, and was re-nominated, but, refusing to be led by the county ring, was defeated for a second term.
