POLIO FATAL TO WABASH CO. BOY Laketon Pupil, 6, Dies in Riley Hospital Wabash, Sept. 4 – Billy Hunter, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claroh Hunter of near Disko, died Tuesday at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital in Indianapolis where he had been rushed on Monday after his illness had been diagnosed as infantile paralysis. The death is the first attributed to paralysis in this county. The child had been ill during a part of last week but had attended public school in Laketon on Thursday. Attendants at the Indianapolis hospital stated today that the boy had not been stricken with the disease until two days before his admittance to the hospital. The Laketon School, however, will remain closed until September 16, according to a statement today by Trustee Bert Young. Private funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at the Hunter Family residence with Rev. Overholzer of the Akron Church of the Brethren in charge. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Akron. The body was taken to the Myer Funeral Home in Akron. Journal-Gazette, Fort Wayne, IN, September 5, 1940.
