Obituary for Effie L. (Rowan) Dicken Mrs. Effie L. Dicken, 83, died Wednesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Chris L. Martin, 2009 52d St. A native of Lagro, Mrs. Dicken had lived here 19 years. She was a member of the Christian Church at Lafontaine. Her husband, Dr. Constantine Lomax Dicken, died in 1914. Survivors, besides the daughter, are a son, Warren E. Dicken; a grandson, Fred W. Martin, Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a. m. Friday at Lafontaine, followed by burial there. Source: This undated news clipping has been passed down in the family. Based on her address in the obituary and her residence in 1930 (Census of Population, 1930), this obituary was likely published in an Indianapolis newspaper in about 1946, assuming a birth date of July 1863 (the Census of Population, 1900) is correct (1863 + 83 = 1946). Note: This obituary is the only time I have ever seen C. L. Dicken's full name published, including his middle name. I had always assumed that the "L" likely stood for Lindsey like his father, but rather the middle name is Lomax, the surname of the Dr. William Lomax of Marion, Indiana with whom Constantine's father studied medicine circa 1846-1848 - a tribute to a mentor and friend. Submitted March 2009 by David R. Guinnup, great-grandnephew of Effie's husband, Dr. C. L. Dicken.
