Funeral services for Mrs. John (Ethel) Young, age 80, a resident of Covington Rt. 2, who died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, at the Rudisill Nursing Home, Second St., Covington, were held this afternoon, Oct. 14, at the Benson Chapel Church, just west of the Young home on U.S. 136. Mrs. Young was born Feb. 26, 1884 in Vermillion County, the daughter of William and Mary Goff McLaughlin. She had been a patient at the nursing home since May 18, 1964 after an illness of 10 years. She was first married to Martin (Lew) Boughner in 1902 and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1918. She was married Sept. 12, 1923 to John Young, who survives. She was a member of the Benson Chapel Church and its WSCS. She had taught Sunday School for 30 years and served as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years. Mrs. Young was a life resident of Vermillion and Warren Counties and she was the first woman school bus driver in this area. Mrs. Young is survived, in addition to her husband, by; one daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Opal) Hegg of Covington Rt. 2; two sons, Cullen Boughner of Warren and George Boughner of South Bend; two step-daughters, Mrs. Jay (Mary Alice) Spring and Mrs. Verlin (Thelma) Hoskins, both of Covington Rt. 2; one sister, Mrs. Belle Smith; eight grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. The Rev. Bill Moon, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial, with the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home of Covington in charge was in Hopewell Cemetery.
