He was born May 6, 1916, in southern Indiana to Ernest Ramsey and Alda Audia Ramsey. Survivors include his wife, Frances Hann Ramsey; four children, Joyce Marie Childress, Tim Ramsey, Louise Cutsinger and Vicki; two brothers, Harry Ramsey and Dean Ramsey; four stepchildren, Paul Pearman, Ronnie Wilson, Connie Hess and David Pearman; 36 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. CLINTON -- Frances E. Ramsey, 80, of Clinton died at 9:12 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Aug. 3, 1920, in Montezuma to Fred Hann and Dora Wilburn Hann. Her husbands, Floyd Wilson, Paul W. Pearman and Claude Ramsey, all died earlier. Survivors include three sons, Paul C. Pearman, Ronnie Wilson and David Pearman; one daughter, Connie Hess; two stepsons, Tim Ramsey and Marion Wilson; four stepdaughters, Louise Cutsinger, Joyce Childress, Kathleen and Vicki; four brothers, Robert Hann, William Hann, Hubert Hann and Leon Hann; three sisters, Joan Kemp, Peggy Vanbelt and Shirley Pufahl; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 15 stepgrandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Cayuga - Donald Ratcliff, principal the last 5 years of Cayuga elementary school and for 34 years an educator in Cayuga now North Vermillion School Corp system died unexpectedly early Saturday at his home 424 Second Street. He was born in Indiana Jan 9, 1914 to Anderson and Alvessie Caldwell Ratcliff. He was married to Lucille Armstrong March 15, 1936. She survives. Mr. Ratcliff, a Kingman HS graduate received his bachelor's and master's degrees at Indiana State and did further graduate study at IU. He was a member of Indiana State Teacher's Association. He was a membe rof the board of Milligan College at Johnson City, Tenn. Mr. Ratcliff was a member of Cayuga Christian Church. Surviving besides his wife are nieces and nephews. Two sisters and 3 brothers are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cayuga Christian Church where the body will lie in state for an hour from 1 p.m. Rev. Wm. Ind (CNS) - Donald B. Ratcliff, 53, died at 7:55 p.m. Sunday (May 12,
1968) 7 at Home Hospital Lafayette, Ind. Death was unexpected. Mr.
Ratcliff was born March 20, 1915, in Fountain County, Ind., the son of
Scott and Elsie Brigges Ratcliff. He was band director of Remington
High School, Remington, Ind., and a member of the Christian Church o f
Crawfordsville. Mr. Ratcliff was an Army veteran of World War II. He
belonged to the Indiana State Teacher's Association, Indiana Music
Association and the Remington American Legion Post 280. He was
graduated from Crawfordsville High School, Butler University and Jordan
Conservatory of Music. Mr. Ratcliff taught music in Plainfield,
Fairmount, Kingman, Rockville, Ambia and Pike Township High Schools. He
is survived by his widow, Mildred; a daughter, Mrs. Patty Brown, Dana;
three sons, Jack, Kingman, Joe, Lancaster, Wis., and Johnny
Crawfordsville; a sister; Mrs. Vivian Cox, Claymount, Del.; and four
grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Woodrow Funeral
Home, Kingman, with the Rev. H. G. Kohlmeyer, Seymour, Ind.,
officiating. Burial will be in the Kingman Fraternal Cemetery. Friends

NELSON REEDER, a prominent and highly respected citizen of Clinton township, died on Monday last, of lung fever, after an illness of about 10 days. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1816, and came with his parents to this county in 1818, where he had resided up to the day of his death. He was a good citizen and esteemed by everybody. His estimable wife, who took down with the lung fever at the same time, is now lying at the point of death.
Mrs. Mary Rendaci, 65 of Rt. 1, Rosedale died at her home suddenly at 5:10 p.m. Saturday. She was born in Italy and had made her home in this country for many years. She was the widow of Frank Rendaci who died March 1944. Survivors are three sons: Peter of Chicago; Louis at home and James also at home; three grandchildren; one brother, Sam Iaconetti of Rt 1, Rosedale and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Rendaci. The body was taken to the Frist Funeral Home and will remain there for funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Rev. BC Shea will officiate, and burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Park.

CLINTON, -- Margaret "Maggie" Revesz, 85, of 1130 Pike St., died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday in the Vermillion Convalescent Center at Clinton. She was born Jan. 13, 1904, in Clinton to Frank Rhoads and Maggie Vurton Rhoads. Her husband, Barney Revesz, died in 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Eaton of Clinton and Virginia Tamplen of Sadler, Texas; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Pocohontas Eagles Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Half-Century Club and Gold Star Mothers Club. Services are pending at First Funeral Home. Burial is in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nora Belle Rhyan, who died at her home in the Trinity Church neighborhood yesterday will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Methodist Church with Rev. Lucy Sharpe officiating. Burial will be in the Shephards cemetery. The body was taken to the residence from the Frist Funeral Home this morning.
Mrs. MAHALA RICHARDSON died at her son's residence, near Gessie, IN, on March 3rd, 1880, aged 70 years and 3 days. She was born in Knox County, Kentucky, in 1810. Her father emigrated to Indiana when she was 8 years old, and settled at Bloomington, Bedford County, at which place she remained until after she was married in the year 1829. They moved to Vermillion County and settled at Eugene. When the War of the Rebellion broke out, her husband and 4 of her sons enlisted. She bore her cares and anxieties with fortitude seldom ever equaled. One of her sons, EDWARD RICHARDSON, was fatally wounded at Shiloh in 1862, and in 1874 she was again called to mourn the loss of her husband, ALEXANDER RICHARDSON, who died at Indianapolis, IN, March 28, 1864. Her other 3 sons remained in the service until the close of the war. She joined the Newlite Church at the age of 16, and has lived a consistent Christian, ever since. Her preparations for her departure were all made. Though her summons came unexpected to her friends, she was ready. On the morning of March 1st, she was taken ill. She said this will be my last. She was in her right mind until the last moment and knew everyone. She passed away without a struggle or any visible sign of pain. -- JAMES B. RICHARDSON
Joe Riso, 63, former resident of Clinton, died at 8:30 a.m. today in St. Claire, Mich. A native of Sicily, Mr. Riso came to Clinton in 1906, making his home here for many years before going to Michigan. He is survived by the widow, Helen; four daughters, Madge, Blanche, Marjorie and Annette and one son, Joseph Jr all of Chicago; two brothers, Agatino Riso of Clinton and Frank Riso, Chicago and one sister, Mrs. Concetta Apa of Clinton as well as several nieces and nephews. The body will be returned to Clinton with funeral arrangements to be announced.
Mrs. CORA ROBERTS of Bono died at her home Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock following an illness of only one hour. Mrs. Roberts had not been ill during the day, but awoke from a nap feeling badly and died shortly after arrival of a doctor. Death was attributed to acute indigestion and heart disease.
Mrs. Roberts, formerly Cora Karnes, was born in Washington County, near Salem, the daughter of Nathan and Anna Overton Karnes on June 5, 1883. She married Mr. Harve Roberts about 35 years ago and came to Bono about 20 years ago.
Surviving besides the husband are a sister, Mrs. Ida Sease, and a half brother, Charles Karnes; 4 daughters, Mrs. Roy Malone of Dana, Mrs. Roy Dicken of Bono, Miss Ruth Roberts, a nurse in Terre Haute; and Miss Jane Roberts at home; and 2 sons, Ralph and Lloyd at home. She was a member of the Rugh Rebekah Lodge 634 of Dana and the Bono M.E. Church.
Funeral services will be held at the Bono Church Wednesday morning with the Rev. G.S. Reedy officiating. Burial will be in the Bono Cemetery.
Covington - Muriel Robinson, 68, of Palmetto, Fla, a former resident of Covington died in a hospital at Sarasota, Fla Monday after an extended illness. Mrs. Robinson was a secretary at Douglass & Nelson Abstract Co for many years. She left the area in the 1940s to take a job as secretary in the Civil Service at Washington DC. After moving to Florida, she was a substitute rural mail carrier. She was a graduate of Covington HS. Born Sept 2, 1911 in Vermillion County, she was a daughter of Joseph E. and Mertie Keerns Martin. She married Edward Robinson who is deceased. Surviving are a son, Edward G, of Palmetto; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie L. Brown of Bloomington; Mrs. Ann J. Linton of New Richmond and Mrs. Gladys O. Pool of Monon; and nieces and nephews. A brother, Orville is deceased. Services were conducted

Another Pioneer Gone to Rest
One by one, like the falling of autumn leaves, the old pioneers of
Vermillion County are slowly, but surely, dropping off. This week we
are called upon to announce the death of Mrs. MARY ROGERS, which
occurred on Sabbath last, at the residence of her son, JOHN O. ROGERS,
of Helt Township. She was in the 88th year of her age. The deceased was
born in Huntington County, PA, February 24, 1786, and in early
childhood, descended the Ohio River with her parents, and settled in
Kentucky among the canebrakes and hostile Indians. In 1799 the family
moved to Ohio and were among the first settlers on the Scioto River,
near where Columbus now stands; and after spending several years in
Ohio, removed with her husband, JOHN ROGERS, to Vermillion County in
1824, and has been a resident of this county ever since. Mother ROGERS
had been a member of the M.E. Church about 40 years, and realized that
the same religion that cheered her heart in the days of her strength
was able to comfort her in infirmities of old age.
CLINTON, IND., -- Mrs. Bertha Rohner, 74 years old, of 202 North Fifth Street, died at 12:04 o'clock Monday afternoon at Vermillion County Hospital. She was a member of the Daughters of America. Surviving are two nieces (Mrs.) Dallas Lewis of Clinton and Mrs. Eva Mooney of Downey, Calif. Services will be at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Frist Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
CLINTON, IND., -- Frank W. Rohner, 67 years old, 202 North Fifth Street, died at the Vermillion County Hospital at 3:15 o'clock Friday morning following a lingering illness. He is survived by the widow, Bertha; three sisters (Mrs.) Elizabeth Lindsey (Mrs.) Anna Dixon and Mrs. Agnes Bailey, Clinton; several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the First Funeral Home.
Walter Howard ROSS, District Manager of Peoria Life Insurance Company at Danville has made a distnictive success of insurance as a profession and business and is one of the leading producers among men of his age in eastern Illinois. He was born at Eugene, Indiana Sept. 12, 1894. His grandfather was Peter Ross, a Baptist minister who spent his last years in Illinois. His father, Homer Ross, was born in Virginia July 25, 1831, and in August a few days after his birth, his parents moved to Westfield, illinois where he spent some of his boyhood. He also lived a few years in MO after which he returned to Il. Receiving a teacher's license he also studied medicine 3 years but never practiced. He taught school for several years in Indiana and was married at Yeddo, that state where he lived a year. The business he followed was that of painting and he was a painting contractor for a number of years. He followed that business at Eugene, Indiana until 1900 when he located on a farm SW of Eugene giving most of his time to the management of the farm until 1907. He then operated for a year a restaurant at Cayuga and at Quaker, Indiana was engaged in the painting and decorating business until 1911. On retiring he moved to Humrick, Ill in 1911, and that was his home until his death, though he died in a hospital at Danville in April 1924. He was a republican and member of the Masonic fraternity. Homer Ross married Clara Grace BEONEBRAKE who was born at Yeddo, Indiana in 1868 and died at Quaker in 1909. They had a family of 7 children: Lena, wife of Claude Banta a carpenter at Ridge Farm; John Homer, a railroad worker at Quaker; Walter Howard; Frank Harrison, a farmer at Newport, Ind; Dorothy Leah, wife of James Loop, a steam shovel worker and strip miner at humrick, illinois; Grace Merle and Blanche Perqarle, twins both attending the Vermillion Academy at Vermilion Grove, Illinois. Walter Howard Ross acquired his education in the public schools of Eugene Indiana the Flats School House SW of Cayuga and the public schools at Quaker. He left school when 15 and until reaching his majority worked for his father in the painting trade. He then became a clerk and for six years was employed in the grocery store of HL Brown at Humrick, Illinois. Mr. Ross took up the insurance business in 1922 and for 18 months wrote life insurance with headquarters at Christman, Illinois. In June 1924 he was promoted responsibilites of district manager for the Peoria life Insurance at Danville. His district comprises the counties of Vermilion, Edgar, Coles, Clark, Cumberland, Douglas. His offices are in the Baum Building. Mr. Ross was inducted into the United States service June 26, 1918 being sent to Camp Jackson SC where for a time he was in the personnel company, a branch of the adjutant general's department and later was transferred in the same service to Camp Sevier SC. He received his honorable discharge with the rank of Sgt March 11, 1919. He is a member of Fletcher Post of American Legion, Ridge Farm. Mr. Ross married Sept 8, 1916 at Danville, Miss Grace Patten, a native of Ridge Farm.
Covington, Ind March 2 -- Richard ROYCE, 42 passed away at his home in this city this morning at 3. He was a sufferer from Bright's disease and euremic poisoning is given as the cause of death. Besides the parents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Royce, of this city the deceased is survived by a widow and 4 children, two daughters and two sons. The deceased was one of the successful farmers of Vermillion County where he lived for several years before he was overtaken by ill health and compelled to give up farm work. After selling his farm he invested in Covington real estate and moved to town. He had been sick for several weeks and while it was known that his condition was serious the announcement of his death, nevertheless came as a distinct shock and was received with sincere regret by his many friends. He was a man of exceptional character and had as a friend every acquaintance. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Church of Christ 7th street of which he was an active member. Burial in Mound Cemetery.
JOE "RED" RUFFATO, 74, of 1033 Miller Street, Clinton, died unexpectedly at his home Thursday afternoon. He was a retired coal miner and a former owner of the Red Fox Tavern on Crompton Hill. Mr. Ruffato was born February 22, 1897, in Italy and had resided in the community for the past 58 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge; the One Half Century Club and the K. of P. Lodge in Clinton. Survivors include his wife, Esther Ruffato; 2 sisters in Italy and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Karanovich Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome Bennett officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Mausoleum. Friends may call after 4 p.m. today.

CLINTON, Leonard C. Runyan, 75, of Clinton died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 1991, in Veterans Administration Medical Center at Danville, Ill. He was a retired coal miner. He was born June 11, 1915, in Clinton to Richard Runyan and Carrie Kelley Runyan. Survivors include his wife, Mary Mildred Niece Runyan; one daughter, Marilyn Burkhart of California; one sister, Geneviev Foltz of Clinton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War II and a member of Half Century Club, American Legion and Eagles. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Karanovich Chapel, with Rev. Larry Beard officiating. She was born Dec. 26, 1918, at Terre Haute to Zina Niece and Stella Hayes Niece. Her husband, Leonard C. Runyan, died March 23, 1991. Carty and Ina May Trout Carty. Survivors include her husband, Jerry; one son, Mark at home; one daughter, Stephanie K. at home; 2 brothers, Tom Carty of Amboy, IN; and Bob Carty of Swayzee, IN; one sister, Gloria Carty of Swayzee, IN; her parents, of Swayzee, IN; and several nieces and nephews. DEATH OF AN OLD LADY
Mrs. Amassa Rutherford died last Wednesday, at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Hugh Aikman, in Montezuma, of senility. She
was born February 1, 1827, being past 83 years old. She had been ill for the past three months. She is survived by one brother, Elijah Short; two
daughters, Mrs. Hugh Aikman and Mrs. Matilda Kaufman, both of Montezuma; also a large number of grand children and great
grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Methodist
Episcopal church in Montezuma Thursday afternoon, being conducted by the
pastor, Rev. C. O. Smock. Burial took place at Pisgah cemetery, near Hillsdale,
this county.
