Mrs. ROY MACK (Alma Hammersley Mack) died at her home, 5 miles north of this city, at 6 o'clock, Wednesday evening. She had been suffering with rheumatism for some time, which went to her heart, causing her death suddenly.
The funeral services will be held some time tomorrow, and the remains will be laid to rest in the Salem Cemetery.
The deceased is a daughter of Sam Hammersley and was a lady held in the highest esteem by all. She was a former teacher in our city schools, and while here made a host of friends, who sadly mourn her death.
A.L. MACK, Aged Pioneer, Dead
A.L. MACK, aged 84 years, died at 9:30 today at his home
at Helt's Prairie near Summit Grove. Mr. Mack had been in ill health
for some time and had been gradually declining since the death of his
wife a little over a year ago.
Mr. Mack is an old pioneer. He was born in the vicinity in which he spent his entire life. He is survived by three sons; Eschol Mack of Summit Grove, and Roy and Forest Mack, at home; and 4 daughters; Glen and Serene at home; Mrs. Harry Shields of Terre Haute, and Grace, who lives in Wyoming. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, but the services are to be held at the Salem Church with burial in the Salem Cemetery Friday or Saturday.
Dana, September 18 -- CHARLES MACK, 80 years old, died at his home at 11:15 p.m. Friday, following an illness of 4 days. Mr. Mack was a member of the M.E. Church at Bono. He is survived by one son, Carlton, of one mile east of Bono, with whom he made his home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, at the Bono M.E. Church, with Rev. G.S. Reedy officiating. Burial will be there.
DONALD MACK, son of Ray Mack of Eugene, died Monday at Salem, IL, as a result of injuries received at Tuscola, the day before. He was working with an interlock gang on the RR there and was struck by an engine. He was 18 years old.
EDWARD E. MACK died March 26, 1923 at his home in Salem, IL. He was born at Bono, IN, February 15, 1869, the son of Napoleon Bonaparte Mack, who was an old timer school teacher here, and Jane Holtz Mack. He spent most of his life in Eugene, being postmaster here from December 22, 1891 to May 11, 1893, and operating a restaurant. In 1895, he was promoted to Signal Supervisor. He was married in 1899 to Minnie Wilson of Eugene and one daughter, Charlotte, survives as does his wife. Also 2 brothers, Ray and Ernest and 2 sisters, Mrs. Vallie Paige of Cayuga, and Mrs. Lou Monroe of Detroit. Burial at Eugene.

Dr. ERASTUS MACK, aged 84 years, a member of Co. E, 21st Illinois
infantry for 5 years, is dead. About 2 years ago, he had a stroke of
paralysis, and has been an invalid since. He was graduated from
Cincinnati Electric Medical College in 1866, and had an extensive
practice until 1907, when his health became poor. The funeral will be
held at the home at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon with burial at Helts
Prairie Cemetery. He is survived by his widow and one son.
Dr. Mack is Dead
Hillsdale, IN, June 30 -- Dr. ERASTUS MACK, aged 84 years, and 8
months, died at the home, early Saturday morning, after being an
invalid for about 2 years. He was at one time a very active physician
and was a man who had the respect of a large circle of friends. He had
been in Hillsdale since 1877. He lived recently with his son Paul, the
only member of the immediate family surviving.
A large crowd attended the funeral, which was conducted Sunday after-noon, by Rev. Hagenbook. A number of veterans of the civil war, most of them from Montezuma, paid their respects to the memory of their comrade.
ESCHOL L. MACK, 87, of Route 1, Clinton, died at the Wallace Nursing Home in Terre Haute at 4 p.m. Wednesday after an extended illness. He had been in ill health for a number of years.
Mr. Mack was born on July 21, 1867, in the Helt's Prairie Community, the son of Alonzo L. Mack and Isabell White and had lived in this community all of his life. He had been a former merchant in Dana and worked with the family at the Summit Grove Gravel Pit. His wife, Laura, preceded him in death in June 1944.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Lucille Higgens of Albuquerque, NM; two sons, Leiton of Wilmington, IL, and Harold of Clinton; 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and a few nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the Frist Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Norris L. King officiating. Burial will be at the Helt's Prairie Cemetery.
Forest Mack, 61, prominent Vermillion county farmer and for five years county chairman of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration, died at the county hospital at 1:30 p.m. Monday following an illness of a few weeks. Mr. Mack, who was a member of one of Vermillion county's pioneer families, was Born Oct 15, 1884 at the Mack home at Helt's Prairie, six miles north of Clinton. He was the son of Alonzo and Isabel White Mack. He spent his entire lifetime in Vermillion County and was a leader in farm and church activities in the northern part of the county. Mr. Mack was a graduate of Purdue University with the class of 1910 and was long recognized as a leader in farm endeavors. He was renamed county Triple A chairman in elections this month and was a member of the Farm Bureau. Mr. Mack is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mae Elliott Mack, three sons, Lieut. Richard A. Mack stationed at Camp Pickett, VA: Robert Mack, Ojai, Calif. recently discharged from service and Leigh Mack at home: one granddaughter: one brother, E. L. Mack of route one, Clinton, and several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the Frist Funeral Home and will be returned to the residence on route one, Hillsdale, Wednesday morning.
Funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday January 31st. 2pm Rev Ralph S Guinn will officiate and burial will be in Helt's Prairie.
Apoplexy Fatal to Mrs. Mack; Funeral Sunday
Mrs. A.L. MACK, 81 years old, died yesterday at her home
5 miles north of Clinton after being confined to bed for the last two
weeks after being stricken with apoplexy. She is survived by the
husband, three sons, Eschol, Roy and Forest and four daughters; Miss
Glenn Mack, Mrs. A.W. French, Mrs. S.B. Miller, and Mrs. H.B. Shields.
The funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in Salem Cemetery, north of Clinton. Mrs. Mack was born and reared in the Helt's Prairie neighborhood and lived all her life there with the exception of 5 years spent in Newport. Before her marriage she was Isabel White. She and her husband celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last October 21. Mr. Mack was 82 and his wife 80 at the time of the celebration. Mrs. JANE MACK died May 9, 1919, at the home of her son, Ernest Mack, in Cayuga with whom she had been making her home. She was born in Eugene in 1841, the daughter of Lewis and Maria Ann Holtz. She was married in 1864 to Napoleon Bonaparte Mack, a school teacher in Eugene township schools, who died about 30 years ago. She leaves 3 sons, Ray E., Edward of Salem, IL, and Ernest of Cayuga, and 2 daughters, Mrs. Lou Monroe of Elwood, IN, and Mrs. Vallie Paige of Cayuga. She was a sister to the late Mrs. William Newman of Eugene.
Word has been received of the death of Mrs. LACEY MACK, 88, which occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Susie Geiger at Covington, Sunday afternoon following a brief illness.
Mrs. Mack, who had made her home in north Vermillion County and Danville, IL, was the grandmother of Mrs. Harold Replogle of Clinton.
Other survivors include 5 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon Mack, and 2 sons, Frank and Robert Wright.
Final services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home in Covington.
Mrs. CHARLES MACK (LELIA) of Bono died Monday night at her home. Death was caused by diabetes. The funeral services were held at the church at Bono, Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Beebe of Dana officiated.
Mrs. Mack is survived by the husband, a 9 year old son, and 3 brothers and a sister; Dewit, Mervin, and Gordon Kerns, and Mrs. Robert Porter, all of Bono.
Mabel Mack was born Nov. 24, 1897 and died July 5, 1897 (paper has dates printed that way, no date or name of newspaper column) of inflamation of the stomach. Mabel was the only daughter of Dr. E. and T. Mack. She has not been well for some time, but her many friends were not alarmed about her until Thursday before her death. She bore her illness with patience and christian fortitude, scarcely ever complaining. She united with the church at the age of fifteen years, and took the golden rule as her guide. She was an earnest, workder in the Sunday school, and every Sunday morning found Mabel at her post. Her death has caused profound sorrow to all who knew her. We do feel as the poet says, "A precious one from us has gone, A voice we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in the home, That never can be filled." Oh ! could we but say one word of comfort to the bereaved parents and brother, but the kindest words fail to comfort. "the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away." Mabel was a member of Wabash Rebecca Lodge No. 498 of Montezuma, and Oakleaf lodge No. 428 good Templers. The Daughters of Rebecca had charge of the funeral.

Travis, Text "She is not dead but sleepeth," After which the remains were laid to rest in Helts Prairie cemetery there to await that welcome voice, "Come ye blessed of my father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Perrysville Items -- The wife of Gilbert L. Mack (MARY MACK), who resides 5 miles southwest of town, took a congestive chill last Thursday night, while her husband was absent, waiting on a sick friend, and before medical aid could be procured, she was insensible, and past recovery, and died Saturday evening. The funeral took place on Sunday last.

Hillsdale, IN - Mrs. ROY MACK, 25 years old, died at her
home near here Wednesday evening from rheumatism of the heart. She was
sick only a short time. She is survived by her father, mother, husband,
and one child. The funeral services will be held at the Salem Church
Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. Matthews of Ladoga will have
charge of he services.
NAPOLEON B. MACK, of Eugene, aged 62 years, died on Wednesday night of last week, of la grippe, followed by pneumonia. During the last term of court at this place, he stumbled and fell down 6 or 8 steps of the courthouse stairway, injuring himself quite severely, and from which hurt he had not fully recovered when attacked with la grippe and pneumonia. His funeral took place in the forenoon of Saturday last, Rev. Thomas Griffith of Montezuma preaching the discourse. The deceased was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and always lived a consistent Christian life. He lost one of his legs by accident when quite a small boy, and had followed the profession of school teaching since a young man for a livelihood.
OLLIE MACK Dies Tuesday in Hospital -- Mrs. OLLIE MAE MACK, 91, of Hillsdale, died at 10:45 a.m., Tuesday in Vermillion County Hospital. She was born January 14, 1881 in Missouri to Richard F. Church and Ella Michaels Church. Mrs. Mack was a member of the Hillsdale Community United Methodist Church and the WSCS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Mack. Survivors include 2 daughters; Mrs. Lillian Pearman and Mrs. Lucille Heaps, both of Gary; a son, Harold Mack, of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Bridges, Greencastle; and 2 brothers, Oscar and Ren Church, both of Dana. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Brown Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Lucille Esbenshade officiating. Burial will be in Helt's Prairie Cemetery.
Mrs. PARMELIA (JAMES) MACK, 83 years, 1 month, and 15 days old, died Sunday at the home of her youngest daughter, Miss M.A. Mack of Terre Haute. The funeral service was from the Salem M.E. Church, Tuesday.
Mrs. Mack was second in a family of twelve. She was born June 18, 1825, in Vermillion County, where she spent the greater part of her life. At the age of 14 years, she was converted and joined the Methodist Church. In 1848 she was united in marriage to Spencer Mack.
To this union were born 6 children, of whom 4 are still living; A.L. Mack of Newport is the only son. Mrs. James Harrington of Summit Grove, Mrs. A.M. Walker of New York City, Miss Almeda Mack of Terre Haute and also a foster daughter, Mrs. Branson of Farmersburg survive. There are 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A retired telegraph operator, Mr. Mack was born in Vermillion County March 20, 1880 and was a member of the Methodist Church in Hillsdale.
Surviving are the widow, Ollie; two daughters, Mrs. Lucille Heats of Indianapolis and Mrs. Herbert Pearman, of Gary, IN; a son, Harold of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Deed Thought To Have Been Prompted By Heavy Drinking
The body of RAY MACK, of Cayuga, who committed suicide by hanging
himself with a log chain, was found yesterday by his brother, Ernest W.
Mack, hanging in a barn in Cayuga, where he had been conducting a
concrete block establishment. Mack was about 60 years of age, according
to relatives. Heavy drinking recently is thought to have led him to end
his life.Mack formerly stayed at the home of his brother in Cayuga.
Last Wednesday, it was said, they had some words about his drinking so
much. Mack left and was last seen at 10:30 o'clock Monday morning at
the Cayuga post office by R.L. Allee, the town Marshall. Allee, it was
reported, also talked to Mack and advised him to quit drinking. Mack is
said to have replied, Well, I ought to. I believe I will cut it out.
He was not seen anymore until yesterday when his brother went to the barn in search of him. He looked through the door and saw the body hanging by the neck from a chain attached to a beam. The brother called the town Marshall, who later notified Coroner Paul B. Casebeer. The coroner went to Cayuga to investigate the case. He found a chair standing on a wooden block. Mack had stood on the chair, attached the chain to his neck and jumped off. He probably had been hanging there since Monday. There were no marks on the body with the exception of imprints of the chain about the neck. Mack left a note asking that his accounts and other business be placed in charge of Attorney B.S. Aikman, of Newport. He also said he forgave his brother, for everything, and added, this is the best way to end it all.
Mrs. STELLA MARIE MACK, 59, of 709n South Fifth Street, died at the Vermillion County Hospital at 8:15 p.m. Monday following an illness of two and one half months.
Mrs. Mack formerly operated Mack's Grocery at West Terre Haute from 1957 to 1965. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Mack on March 18, 1965.
Surviving are two brothers, Carl Kilgore of Cayuga and Lawrence Kilgore of New Jersey; a sister, Mrs. Annabelle Alkire of Route 2, Clinton and several nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to the Frist Funeral Home then transferred to the Watson Funeral Home in Cayuga where funeral arrangements have not been completed.
Home News -- Old Mr. WAREHAM MACK, a former resident of Highland, in this county, was buried at this place on last Tuesday, the 5th, at the good old age of 79 years, and was one of the first settlers on the Wabash. Four of his children are living at this place at present.
The wife of ANDY MAINS, who resided on Joe Morehead's farm, died on last Sunday night from lockjaw, caused by a miscarriage a few days since. She leaves a husband and two little children.
Frank Malone Dead - Frank Malone, son of William and Martha Malone, was born in Vermillion county, Indiana, March 16, 1868. He lived with his parents to the age of 10 years, and for the next 10 years lived with his uncle, John S. Houchin, and attended the country school of that day. He was married to Annie Brock, October 6th, 1889. They lived near Hillsdale during their lives together, where there was born onto them one son and two daughters, Georgia P. Orval Ray, and Eliza M. He was a member of the Woodmen of Hillsdale. In his boyhood he joined and was taken in full membership of the Baptist church at the Tennessee Valley Church.
He bore his affliction with fortitude and expressed his assurance that he had made his peace (with) God, and that he was ready when the Lord called him. He died September 21, after long suffering with cancer.
He leaves to mourn besides his wife, son and daughters, his father, four brothers and one sister. The funeral service was held at the late residence, Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Dye of the U.B. Church, and burial followed at Highland cemetery.

Mrs. MALONE, wife of WALTER MALONE, departed this life, on last Friday after a very short illness. She leaves behind her a husband, two little children, and many friends to mourn her loss.
Obituary - William Malone, son of Richard and Evaline Boswell Malone, was born in Vermillion County, Indiana, April 4, 1841, and died December 20, 1915, at the home of his son Richard B. Malone of near Dana, Indiana, where he was given the best of care during his long illness.
He spent nearly all his life in Vermillion county and quite early became one of its foremost citizens. On August 6th, 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Houchin, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth Houchin, and to this union were born 9 children, Joseph Edward, Frank, Richard B., Eudora Aikman, Phoebe Ollie Collis, Jesse, John H., Claude M., and Gabria Malone.
He is preceeded in death by his wife, Martha Malone, two sons Frank and Jesse; and two daughters, Eudora Aikman and Gabria Malone.
The subject of this sketch has been in poor health for several years, but the news of his death came as a shock to his many friends.
He is survived by four brothers, John of Dana, Tilghman of Hillsdale, Albert of St.Joe, Missouri, and Huron of Bono, 18 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held in the Bono church, Rev Chivington officiating. Mesdames Eliza Davis and Dollie Kerns sang. The remains were laid out in the Pisgah cemetery.

Death -- The death of WILLIAM L. MALONE, of Helt township, occurred on last Sunday evening. His disease was lung fever, of which he had been ailing about two weeks. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1805, and had been a resident of this county since 1824, being one among the early settlers of this county. By economy and industry, he had amassed a large fortune, which he leaves to his wife and two children. He was a good citizen, generous hearted, and always ready to help the needy and distressed. His funeral took place on Tuesday last, and was largely attended.
Edyth M. Mankin, 85, of Clinton and formerly Mecca died
at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday (Nov 12) at Clinton Nursing Home. She was born May
15, 1901 in Waveland to Claude and Katherine Hennessey Moore. Her
husband, Wayne Mankin died in 1959. Survivors include 3 daughters,
Imogene Sykes of Mecca; Wanda Morris of Alvin, Ill and Alayne Roderick
of Newport, three sons, Robert Mankin of Rockville; Garry Mankin of
Clinton and Larry Mankin of Concord, Calif; one sister, Mary Ann Lawson
of Clinton; 27 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and one great
great grandchild. She was a membe rof Rockville CHristian Church.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Barnes Mortuary in
Rockville with Rev. Gordon Guoh officiating. Burial at Memory Garden
Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today.
Harriet E. Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ethan Ward, was born in New York, March 6, 1844, and departed this life, March 9, 196, at the age of 72 years and 3 days, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lillian Laverty.
She was married to Albert Mann, January 14, 1869, at Burr Oak, Michigan, by Rev. J. H. Thannafelt.
After enjoying thirty-five years of married life, Mr. Mann was called to his eternal home and she was left alone with her children, to whom she has been a devoted and loving mother.
The last six years she has spent with her daughter, Mrs. Laverty, who has given her every care and comfort, sacrificing all for her mother.Mrs. Mann was of a family of five children, two girls and three boys. One sister and one brother preceded her in death, she being at their bedside when the Master called them home. The whereabouts of the other brothers being unknown.
She was the mother of seven children - four daughters and three sons. Surviving are her three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Laverty of Parke county, Mrs. Eva Gilmore, Mrs. Kate Potter and one son, Frederick Albert Mann of Vermillion county.
She took her grandson, Frank Haskett, of Vermillion county, in childhood and has faithfully cared for him during her lifetime. Estella, wife of S.C. Haskett and two infants preceded her to the better world years ago.
Mrs. Mann was converted to Christianity at Salem M. E. church and became a member in 1897, under the pastorate of Rev. Claude Travis. She was a great Bible student and attended Sunday school and church as long as her health permitted. Always ready and willing to help the sick and needy and in any charitable work.
She was a good neighbor, a kind and helpful wife, a loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In January, 1908, Mrs. Mann fell and injured herself, from which she never recovered and although an invalid for eight long years she was patient and thoughtful for her relative and friends, saying she was glad to spend her days with her children but would be always ready when the Master called her home.
She leaves to mourn their loss, four children, nine grandchildren, and one adopted grandson, but who feel that it is her eternal gain. Short funeral services were conducted from the home at 10:30 Sunday morning, and the funeral sermon preached at Salem church at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Loyd Montgomery had charge. A large crowd was present. Burial was in Salem cemetery.

CAYUGA, Ind. (CNS) Miss Cassie L. Martin, 71, of Cayuga, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, (Feb. 22, 1972) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. She had been a patient three days. She had resided with her sister, Mrs. Leonne M. Clark, in Cayuga for many years. Born Aug. 14, 1900, she was the daughter of Harry and Mary Hughes Martin. Miss Martin was employed for 25 years at Cook Hospital in Chicago. She enjoyed sports and played basketball during high school and later for the Taylor Trucks in Chicago, one-time national champions. A graduate of Perrysville High, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star 150 of Cayuga and Delta Theta Tau sorority. Survivors include her sister. She was preceded in death by a brother. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. EST Thursday at the Woodrow Funeral Home in Kingman, with the Rev. Larry McMillan officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery north of Gessie. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. Eastern Star memorial services will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services for Charles Martin, age 93, of Perrysville, a retired farmer and life resident of Fountain and Vermillion counties, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Jan. 6, at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Covington, officiated and burial was in the Cold Springs Cemetery, north of Veedersburg. Mr. Martin died at 9:10 p. m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, where he had been a patient since Dec. 24. He was born May 2, 1868 in Fulton Twp., Fountain County, the son of Wilson and Mary Abernathy Martin. He was married in 1898 to Mattie Ann Asbury and July 28, 1945 to Della Mae Shipps, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one son, Dewey Martin of Attica; one daughter, Mrs. Dolly Shaw of Gary; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Martin of Blackwell, Okla., and Sam Martin of Danville, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Melissa Smail and Mrs. Bessie Keller, both of Covington. He was preceded in death by three children, three brothers and one sister. Pallbearers were: Albert Grimes, Charles Wagner, Richard Martin, Robert Martin, Basil Martin and Paul Martin.

Services will be held at the home at 8:30 o'clock in the morning, with requiem mass at the Sacred Heart Church at 9 o'clock. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Marvel died Wednesday afternoon after a short illness. He was a graduate of St. Viator's College.
ROBERT MATTSEY Dies in Joliet
Clinton native, ROBERT MATTSEY, 58
years old, of 9410 Magnolia, Mokena, IL, died unexpectedly at work
Friday at 7:30 a.m. He was a Stationery Engineer in Joliet, IL.
Mr. Mattsey was born in Clinton, June 5, 1920, to Andrew and Anna Hrivnak Mattsey. He was past president of the Eagles Lodge No. 377 at Joliet; a member of the Irving Athletic Club in Joliet, the One Half Century Club in Clinton and the Clinton-Chicago Club.
The World War II veteran is survived by his wife, Clara; one sister, Mrs. Catherine Yelich of Chicago; 3 brothers, George Mattsey and Jim Mattsey, both of Clinton, and Walter Mattsey of Maxwell, IN; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Frist Funeral Home. Pastor Philip Meyer will officiate at the services and burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. today.
Eleanor May, 11 year old daughter of Cecil and Sarah Lewis, of St. Bernice, died of pneumonia, July 1. She was born November 5, 1907. Lena as she was called by her schoolmates and friends, was a cheerful little girl and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her parents, two brothers and two sisters, besides many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Christian church, Rev. Justice of Clinton officiating. Burial was in the Bono cemetery.
HILLSDALE - Harold E. Mayes, 77, of Hillsdale died at 1 p.m. Thursday Oct. 4, 2007 at West Central Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1929 in Clinton to Austin Mayes and Grace Swinford Mayes. He was a self employed carpenter and was retired from the Carpenters Local 44 in Champaign, Ill.
He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1501 in Clinton and the Montezuma Civic Club. He was a member of the Hillsdale High School Class of 1947.
Survivors include four daughters, Lori Porter and her husband Vic of Hillsdale, Mary "Sis" McFall and her husband Danny of Hillsdale, Linda Roberts and her husband Lloyd of Cross City, Fla. and Teresa Beam and her husband Jim of Brandon, Fla.; six sons, Keith Mayes and wife Judy of Montezuma, Mark Mayes and wife Regina of Lansing, Mich., Mike Pearman and wife Tammy of Hillsdale, Scott Pearman and wife Brenda of Hillsdale, Bob Pearman and wife Laura of Clinton and Randy Pearman of Brandon, Fla.; 29 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters; two brothers, Herman Hayes of Clinton and Arthur Mayes and wife Arlene of Hillsdale; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents; his wife, Nora Jean Mayes on July 21, 2007; and a son, J.R. Pearman on May 19, 1985.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Karanovich-Giovanini Funeral Home in Clinton, with Pastor Keith McIntyre officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Helt's Prairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society or Toys for Tots.

M'ALEER FUNERAL HELD AT PERRYSVILLE
Body of Widow of Traction System's Track Supervisor Brought from Decatur.
The funeral of Mrs. Myrtle McAleer, widow of Jack McAleer a track supervisor for the Illinois Traction System at Decatur [Illinois] until his death, was held at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hinds at Perrysville, Ind., Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. There was a large attendance, a numbr of Danville friends going down to the Indiana town to pay their last respects to the widow of a former C. & E. I. official.
Mrs. McAleer passed away following an operation for gall stones and a liver ailment with which she had suffered for seven weeks, the operation being the last resort. Mrs. McAleer was born Myrtle Hinds in this county in 1871 and was the daughter of James R. and Loretta Hinds now residents of Perrysville, but formerly of this city.Mrs. McAleer, who was the widow of John McAleer a well known track foreman and supervisor, formerly of the C. & E. I. railway and at the head of the road department of the Illinois Traction System at the time of his death, formerly resided in Danville and in Westville, before the removal of the family to Decatur.
Mrs. McAleer is survived by her parents, by a brother, William J. hinds in charge of the tracks of the C & E. I. in the Dolton yards and by two daughters, Genevieve, who is employed as a stenographer in the offices of the I. T. S. [Illinois Traction System] at Decatur and Loretta, aged four years. Mrs. McAleer was for nearly all of her life a member of the Methodist church.

For sometime I have been wishing to write you a few words of sympathy but the weather was so warm and I was feeble not able to hold my pen steadily this morning I feel somewhat better I will try and talk with you for Retta . When I write to my dear old friends I must write like I talk I am too old for style in times of trouble and I tell you my dear friends Henry and I did feel sorry when I read the notice of the death of your dear daughter in the newspaper for I had not heard of her sickness. I was not acquainted with her but she was a dear daughter kind and true and how you and Mr Hines and the dear children will miss her give my love and sympathy to her daughters tell them I am sorry for her I am a stranger to her but I see a kind mother and I can feel for her and ask the dear Lord to help them in this hour of trouble and sorrow. Retta hug and kiss the dear little child for me I suppose you have the dear child it will be a great care for you and Mr. Hines but she is in good hands.. Dear Retta and James all I can do as I have written to you the Lord is kind and good those diseases are in the world they may attack you or I the Good Lord tells us all about them and says I will give you my grace to help you in time of trouble I will give you strength and I shall not leave you. I tell you dear child I am almost eighty-six years old and the Lord has been good to me and I will trust in the Dear Lord as long as I live The the Lord does not send disease on unto afflict us they are here and we will have to take our share we must die and go home and be no more now dear friends as you can see from this writing I am getting tired so I will stop writing for this May the Lord bless and keep you faithful until death

DANA - Beverly Joan McCullough, 75, of Indianapolis and formerly of Dana, died at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker and had been employed with Pearless Pump of Indianapolis. She was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Dana, to Glen Saxton and Blanche Botner Saxton.
Her husband of 55 years, Donald E. McCullough, whom she married June 17, 1951, in Dana, survives her. Other survivors include one son, Greg McCullough and his wife P.J. of Brownsburg; two daughters, Janel McCullough of Indianapolis, and Julie Rae OBrien and her husband Pat of Winona, Minn.; one brother, Ron Saxton of Rockford, Ill.; and five grandchildren, Kelly O'Brien, Ashley O'Brien, Erin O'Brien, Sean O'Brien and Shannon O'Brien, all of Winona.
She was a member of Bono United Methodist Church in Dana. She was a 1949 graduate of Dana High School and attended nursing school in Paris, Ill. She loved to travel.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home, 225 Maple St., with the Rev. Frederick Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Bono Cemetery. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Friday. A Mrs. McDANIELS, residing two miles southwest of town, died on Saturday morning, of consumption, after a long and lingering illness. She was about 25 years of age, and leaves a husband and 2 little children, and many sympathizing friends to mourn her early death.
CLINTON - Ronnie G. "Ron" McDonald, 69, of Clinton died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday Oct. 18, 2007. He was born in Anderson on Feb. 19, 1938 to Elishia McDonald and Loraine Boehmer-McDonald. He was an office manager for the former Karanovich Funeral Home in Clinton.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton, Clinton Lions Club, Clinton Breakfast Optimist Club and St. Bernice High School Class of 1956 and attended Olivet Nazarene College.
He was also a former Vermillion County coroner, former precinct committeeman-Clinton City 1, former treasurer for Vermillion County Democrat Central Committee, and Past District 6 Director for Indiana Funeral Directors Association.
Survivors include cousins, Tanya, Josh and Kayleigh Olah, Sharen and Jim Jolly, Bob, Greg and Kevin Johnson, Billie and Darryl Fulmer, Woodrow and Ida Gambill, Denise, Tammy, and John Barnes, Tammy and Edgar Ramos. Special caregivers and friends, Greg Bryant, Jackie Mautino, Janice and Jeff Vietti, Joanie and Ed Kanizer, Pete Arcamo, Rick, Myra and Anna Marie Giovanini and many other friends. He was preceded in death by both parents.

Dana, Ind June 29 - Mrs. Saraah McDowell, 77 years old, who lived south of this place, committed suicide by saturating her clothing with col (sic) oil and applying a lighted match. At the same time she tried to kill her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Wishard, who is 50 years old in the same manner. The daughter, however, succeeded in esaping

HILLSBORO -- Mrs. C. Agnes McKee, 93, a life resident of the Veedersburg-Hillsboro area, died Wednesday in Vermillion County Nursing Home at Danville, Ill. Mrs. McKee attended Veedersburg School and was a charter member of the former EUB Church of Veedersburg. Born Aug. 8, 1878, at Veedersburg, she was a daughter of William and Martha Robinson Briner. She married Elwood W. McKee on Sept. 19, 1908. He died March 9, 1959. Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Mabel Cohen, of Danville, Ill. She was preceded in death. by seven brothers and four sisters. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro with Rev. Vernon Souder officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery near Veedersburg. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Friday.
Cincinnati, Dec. 18 -- Henry McMillan, a letter carrier in this city, was found drowned in the Ohio River here. An interesting feature of the casualty was the revelation that McMillan leaves an unencumbered estate of $100,000, comprising a woolen mill in Indiana, several farms and a number of houses in Cincinnati, Newport and Covington. He lived in Newport.
Elmer Metzger, age 66, resident of Covington Rt. 2 and a former business man of this city, died at 10:30 p. m. Tuesday, March 20, while enroute to the Veterans Administration Hospital in Danville. Mr. Metzger was born Sept. 27, 1895 in Vermillion County, Ind., the son of David and Anna Hines Metzger. He had never married. He served with the cavalry during World War I. He owned and operated an electrical shop and was in business in Covington for several years. Mr. Metzger had been in ill health for several years. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ethel Howard of State Line; one brother, David, Covington Rt. 2; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here where friends may call after noon Friday. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. The Rev. Colin Parks of Gessie will officiate and burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery, southwest of Covington.
MILLIGAN, Glen E., 87, of Dana, died at 4:18 a.m. EST Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in Davis Gardens Health Center in Terre Haute. He served in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. MONTEZUMA -- Julia A. Mizell, 70, of Montezuma died at 5:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She was born Dec., 15, 1931, in Montezuma to Sullivan Pearman and Hila Melton Pearman. Survivors include two daughters, Mira Mizell and Kandice K. Addison; one brother, Jean Pearman; and two grandchildren. There are no services or visitation. Cremation is scheduled. Brown Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Mrs. ELIZABETH MOORE, of Clinton, an estimable lady and the wife of J.M. MOORE, died on last Wednesday night, after an illness of several months. The deceased was an acceptable member of the M.E. Church, and highly respected by her neighbors and acquaintances. Her funeral took place on Thursday and was preached by the Rev. J.E. Wright.

disease was dropsy. She was in her 24th year. She leaves a young babe
and large circle of friends to mourn her loss. She was buried this
afternoon at the Vermillion Chapel Cemetery.
WILLIAM LABON MOORE, 76 years old, formerly of Fairview Park, died at 7:10 p.m. yesterday at the Dana Convalescing Home. Death followed an extended illness.
Mr. Moore was born September 14, 1882, in Jasper Co., IN, and was a retired coal miner. He had been living at the nursing home for several years and the whereabouts of his children who survive is unknown. They are Randolph Moore and Margaret and Florence Moore, whose married names are also not known.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. at the Frist Funeral Home on Saturday. Burial will be made in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Covington -- Mrs. Aurel Morgan, 68 of 416 Johnson Street, Covington died at 11:05 a.m. Thursday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville after an illness of 5 months. She was born Oct 19 1901 in Vermillion County a daughter of Will S. and Libba Myers Bumgardner. On June 21, 1925 she married Luke A. Morgan who survives. She was a member of the 7th Street Church of Christ and had resided in Covington and Perrysville areas since her marriage. She was graduated from Fayette HS at New Goshen. Survivors include a son, Donald of Santa Ana, Calif; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy Spizey of Milford, Ohio and Mrs. Mariam McCubbin of Covington; three brothers, Bernard of Montpelier, Paul of Indianapolis and Leon of Pontiac, Mich; a sister, Miss Helen Bumgardner of Covington and 7 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with Nyal D. Royse and Derald Ailes officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Resting - Jessie Elizabeth Morgan, third daughter of Jessie Elizabeth (Jesse and Elizabeth) Houchin, was born January 29, 1853. She was united in marriage to James M. Morgan February 27, 1870, and for nearly 24 years they lived a peaceful and happy life together. She united with the Tennessee Baptist church, being baptized by Rev. William McMasters February 14, 1877, and for nearly 17 years she lived an exemplary, consistent christian life. She departed this life February 1, 1894, aged 41 years and 3 days. She leaves father and mother, two brothers, three sisters, and a faithful husband to mourn her loss. Funeral services were held at Spring Hill church and conducted at her request by J.H. Rusmisel, her former pastor. A large congregation was in attendance, her body was interred in the Pisgah cemetery.
Funeral services for Mrs. Iva T. Moudy, age 71, 512 Sixth St., who died at 7:15 p. m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Lakeview Memorial Hospital, Danville, Ill., were held at 2:30 p. m. Saturday at the Benson Chapel Methodist Church, west of Covington. She had been a patient in the hospital since Sept. 4 following a three-months' illness. Mrs. Moudy was born Jan. 7, 1891 in Highland Township, Vermillion County, Ind., the daughter of Thomas and Christina J. Stutler Gouty. She was married April 27, 1910 to Ernest A. Moudy, who preceded her in death March 15, 1956. She was a member of the Benson Chapel Methodist Church, its WSCS, and the Mound Home Demonstration Club. She was a life resident of the Foster and Covington communities. Mrs. Moudy is survived by: two sons, Robert T. and Ernest A., Jr., both of Covington Rt. 2; three daughters, Mrs. Leland (Dorothy) Hogan of Sidell Rt. 1, Mrs. Oliver (Roberta) Moorhous and Mrs. T. W. (Vera Louise) Wilson, both of Covington Rt. 2; one sister, Mrs. Bertha Moudy of Perrysville; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a step great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, four brothers and one grandchild. The body was taken to the church, from the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here, one hour before service. The Rev. Bill Moon, pastor, officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Martin sang and they were accompanied by Mrs. John (Naomi) Dewlen at the organ. Pallbearers were: Morris Martin, Lowell Holycross, Jim Clem, George Rentz, Herbert Edwards, and Archie Reynolds. Their wives, Gladys Martin, Maxine Holycross, Molly Clem, Marie Rentz, Vera Edwards and Mary Reynolds, served as flower bearers. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery here.
Mrs. Myers Dead -- Mrs. AMANDA MYERS, wife of John Myers, Marshall of Newport, died last Thursday afternoon. Her funeral services were conducted by Mr. Haworth of Quaker at the M.E. Church Saturday afternoon.

The funeral of Elmer Wayne Myers, who died Wednesday at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Myers, of the Center neighborhood, was held
yesterday afternoon with burial in Bono cemetery. The child was two
days old.
HILLSDALE - Mary Jane Myers, 82, of Hillsdale, died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2006, in West Central Community Hospital's emergency room, in Clinton. She was a homemaker.
She was born July 15, 1923, in Humrick, Ill., to William and Lucy Trosper Loveall. She married Forrest D. Myers, on Dec. 20, 1938, in Rockville. He preceded her in death March 1, 2004. Survivors include her seven children, Beverly Davis of Montezuma, the Rev. Ronald Myers and his wife Debby of Mount Vernon, the Rev. Donald Myers and wife Beth of Venus, Pa., Forrest Dale Myers and wife Karen of New Goshen, Rosemary Fortner and husband Michael, Dianna Lawson and husband James, and Deanna Bigger and husband John, all of Clinton; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leo Loveall, and Herbert Loveall and wife Marvis, all of Tangier; and three sisters, Betty Flaur of Texas, Doris Ashby and husband Kenny of Tilton, Ill., and Lucy Mae Bailey and husband Don of Arizona. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Heather Fortner; two sisters, June Lamb and Louise Sanders: and a brother, Joe Loveall.
She was a member of the Holiness League Mission in Clinton, and enjoyed sewing, quilting and reading.
Services are 1 p.m. Wednesday at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga, with the Rev. Donald Walden and John Bigger officiating. Burial is in Bono Cemetery in Bono. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions may be made in her name to the donor's favorite charity.
