Lake, Francis M.

Death of "Buck" Lake
Francis M. Lake, after a protracted and severe suffering, died at his home in Hillsdale, February 21, 1895. He was born October 26, 1839. At the call of his country he enlisted in the 110 Illinois Regiment, but in 1862 he re-enlisted, this time serving his country til the close of the war, receiving his discharge in October 1865. Shortly after his return home from the Army, he was married to Miss Mary E. Underwood, who still survives in the sorrow and loneliness of widow hood. Brother Lake was converted and joined the United Brethren Church in 1869.

He bore his suffering with Christian fortitude and resignation to the divine will, speaking words of encouragement to his sorrowing wife and friends. To him death came as a kind relief from the sorrows of earth, that he might enter in his heavenly rest. After a short funeral discourse, Saturday, at the Highland School House by Rev. J.E. Wright, the remains were laid away in the Highland Cemetery by the G.A.R. boys with their usual impressive ceremonies.
