PAUL INGRAM WILLIAMSPORT, IND- Paul Harrison Ingram, 65, of 6 Stump, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday (Jan 7, 1967) at his home in Williamsport. He had been ill six years. Born Aug 12, 1901, in Newport, he was the son of Charles G and Ellen Griffin Ingram. He ws married Jan 21, 1927, in Covington, to Esther Janette Payton, who survives. They resided in Vermillion County until moving to Williamsport in 1941. He had been employed at the Fowler House at Purdue University, retiring in 1959. Prior to that, he was employed at the General Motors Plant in Danville. He served in the Coast Guard during World War 1 and was a member of the Baptist Chapel in Williamsport. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge 38, a member of the Rocky Dale chapter Order of Eastern Star, Lafayette Commandry, Royal Arch Masons Chapter 3, Tippecanoe Council 69 and Murat Shrine. Survivors include two sons, Roger of Attica Route 2 and Archie of Lafayette: a daughter Mrs Shirley Moore of Lafayette: a sister, Mrs Ben Price of Battle Creek, Mich.; a half brother, Fred of Atalissa, Iowa, and six grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica. The Rev. Robert Walters will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemtery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family has requested that memorials be in the form of donations to the Masonic Children's Home in Franklin, Ind.
Mrs. EUNICE McDOWELL ISAACS, 45, a native of Helt Township, died at her home in Yeddo, Sunday at 1:30 p.m., after several days serious illness.
Mrs. Isaacs was the daughter of Charles and Eliza Wells McDowell and was born near Bono. She is survived by 4 sons, Marion, Oliver, and J.L. Isaacs of Yeddo and Robert in the West; 3 brothers, Bert McDowell of Dana; Claude of Hillsdale; and Clarence of Newton, IL; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Marie Weaver of Hillsdale and Mrs. Bertha Foltz and Miss Mamie McDowell of west of Clinton.
Definite funeral arrangements have not been made. If the son in the West does not return, it will probably be held Tuesday with brief services at Bono and burial there.
Clinton, Ind., Funeral services for Addison Jackson, 71 years old, who died at his residence, 758 North Eight Street, Tuesday, will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Frist Funeral Home. The Rev, James Martin will officiate and burial will be at Spanglers Cemetery.
At 12:30 o'clock on last Saturday night, Andrew Jackson of Helt Township, died of lung fever. He had been in poor health for some time and was making his home with his son Charley, west of Hillsdale. His wife is at Danville, IL, where she has been for quite awhile taking treatment at a sanatarium. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1823, and settled in this county in 1835, where he had continued to reside the rest of his life with the exception of a year or two which he spent in Illinois. He was well known to the most of the older citizens of this county, and was for many years the owner of a large farm west of Hillsdale and in prosperous circumstances. Financial reverses overtook him during the free trade administration of Grover Cleveland, and he lost all, dying comparatively in poverty. For many years he had been a member of the M.E. Church and lived an exemplary Christian life. His remains were interred on Monday last in the Pisgah Cemetery, about 4 miles southwest of Highland.

Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Elizabeth Jackson, wife of Andrew Jackson, died September 5th, her age being near 35 years. She leaves a husband and 7 children mourn her death. On Wednesday previous to her death, she said she was willing and prepared to leave this world of care and sorrow and conversed to her little ones and requested them to be good and kind to each other, for they would not have a mother's care much longer. She was a member of the U.B. Church. She was patient through a lingering illness of about 8 months. During her sickness, she often spoke of the sympathetic feelings her little Willie had shown her. Before, and on returning from work, he would always come to her bedside to see how "Ma" was.
MONTEZUMA -- Gerald M. Jackson, 83, of Montezuma died at 12:02 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, in his residence. He retired from Eli Lily in 1981. He was born June 7, 1916, in Montezuma to Tola E. Jackson and Leatha Pearman Jackson. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Baysinger Jackson, whom he married Aug. 10, 1937, in Rockville; one son, Joe Jackson of Terre Haute; one daughter, Jo Ann Persinger of Kingman; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 480th Engineer Maintenance Company in England. He was a member of Montezuma Christian Church, Montezuma Lodge 89 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute and Toastmaster's International, and was a former member of the Montezuma Town Board. Services are 10 a.m. Monday in Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Gommel officiating. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. GIDEON JACKSON, OLD CITIZEN, DIES
Gideon Jackson, aged 76 years, January 7, this year, died at his home
six miles west of Clinton, Wednesday, after an illness of several
months, said to be due to dropsy. Mr. Jackson, having been born in this
county, was one of the oldest of the native citizens. He has been a
substantial farmer and has a wide circle of acquaintances.
Eight children survive, as follows: Frank, Ren, Ellis and Addison Jackson, all well known farmers, living near Clinton; Mrs. Emma Groves, of Fairview Park; Mrs. William Davis, of north Tenth street, Clinton; Mrs. Angelina Luce and Mrs. Laura Taylor, living near Clinton.
The funeral services will be conducted from the house at 2 o'clock, this afternoon.

Was an Old Citizen of Clinton Township - His Will Probated
After an illness of several months of dropsy, Gideon Jackson, a well-to
do farmer, six miles west of Clinton, died last Wednesday; aged 76
years. He was born in this county and was one of Vermillion's oldest
native citizens, but he never figured in public or political affairs
and was not very well known outside of Clinton township. He is survived
by eight children and two grandchildren.
The funeral services were held from his late home at 2 o'clock last
Friday.
He disposed of his property by will the provisions of which follow:
The will of Gideon Jackson, late of Clinton township, was probated at an early hour last Saturday morning at the office of Circuit Clerk Jones. The witnesses and attorney, who live at Clinton, came up on the 5:39 a.m. train and returned on the 6:48 a.m. train. The will was a short one, consisting of four paragraphs.
The first paragraph provided for the payment of debts and erecting a monument.
No.2 directs the estate to be divided into nine equal parts among his children as follows: Angeline Luce, Belle Davis, Adison Jackson, Ellis Jackson, Frank Jackson, Wren Jackson, Laura Taylor, Emeline Groves and one-ninth to his two grandchildren - Sarah H. and Nida E. Jackson.
Paragraph 3 directs that the personal property be appraised and after the appraisement the beneficiaries be allowed to take any or all at appraisement without a sale. J.W. Amis was appointed executor.

J.C. Jackson received a telegram last Sunday evening
announcing the death of his daughter, Ida, at Indianapolis where she
had gone on a visit about 4 weeks ago. The news was a great shock to
the family, especially Ida's parents, as they had not even heard till
Sunday evening that she was dangerously ill. Mr. Jackson left on the
midnight train to bring the corpse home for interment. Ida was a model
young lady and her sudden and early death was sad news to the whole
community in which she lived.
Ida Beatrice Jackson was born October 28, 1873 and died November 15,
1896, aged 23 years, 17 days. She was with relatives at Indianapolis at
the time of her death. She had been having chills, but supposing they
were broken she left for the city to return about Christmas. About 9
p.m. on November 13th, she performed on the organ and sang a number of
her favorite songs. Shortly after she retired and was taken with a
severe pain in her side and stomach, followed by a chill. Her many
friends and relatives whom she was stopping with were soon at her
bedside and telephoned the doctor immediately. But her life was cut
short. Her sufferings did not last but from Friday night until Sunday
night. She was an exemplary young lady.
James E. JACKSON was born in NC in August 1830 and died in Cayuga, Vermillion Co IN March 22, 1903 age 73. He came to Indiana in early life and was married to Miss ADKINS in 1850. To them were born 10 children, 4 of whom survive with the mother. The funeral services were conducted at Friends Church in Tangier after which the remains were laid in Tangier Cemetery.
Enoch Jackson of Helt Township, died at 6 o'clock on last Thursday evening, October 17, 1901, aged 43 years. The deceased resided 2 miles southwest of Hillsdale, near where he was born, and lived all his life. He had been in poor health for the past two years with consumption, which was the cause of his death. He leaves a wife and 7 children. His funeral occurred at 10 o'clock on last Saturday morning, his remains being interred in the old Pisgah Cemetery, a mile or two west of his last residence.
Enoch Jackson died at his home, two miles southwest of Hillsdale, on
Thursday evening of last week, aged 43 years. Consumption was the
direct cause of his death. A wife and seven children survive. The
funeral occurred Saturday morning. Remains were interred in the Pisgah
cemetery, west of Hillsdale.
J.C. Jackson Hillsdale, Ind., July 16 - (Special) - J. C. (Josiah Cooper) Jackson died early this morning of paralysis, this being the second stroke he had suffered. He was a veteran of the civil war, and was in the mercantile business in Hillsdale for several years. He is survived by a widow, three sons and four daughters. He was a member of Co D. 85th Regiment Volunteer Infantry and served three years. Deceased was born November 30, 1843 in Helt Township. He was a son of John and Lydia Short Jackson. He attended schools taught in log cabins with puncheon floors, clapboard roofs and slab seats. November 6, 1867, he was married to Miss Priscilla C. Shane, daughter of Jas. D. Shane of Effingham County, Illinois. Eight children were born to them - Jas C., Lela, Ida B., Ira E., Cyrus, Bertha, Adaline and Ethel C. He was a staunch Republican, but never sought honors from the party. He was a member of the G.A.R. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at his former home near Hillsdale, Rev. C. C. Travis being the officiating minister. Members of his company were pall-bearers.
Clinton, March 10 - Mrs. Lucille Jackson, 48 years old, 5027 North Fourteenth Street, Terre Haute died at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Union Hospital in Terre Haute following a five year illness. A native of Vigo County, she had lived in Terre Haute since 1943. [??] Surviving arre the husband, Bryan Sr., the father, Edward Goodwin of Clinton; one daughter, Miss Joyce Jackson at home; one son, Bryan Jr. of North Terre Haute; one sister, Mrs. Frieda Thomas of Clinton and three grandchildren.?? Services will be at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Frist Funeral Home. The Rev. Claude Rodabaugh will officiate and burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery south of here.
Mrs. Lydia Jackson Departed this life, December 21, 1880, Mrs. Lydia Jackson, aged 74 years, 4 months, and 24 days. Deceased was a native of Columbia, OH, and was married to John Jackson in 1820, and moved to Vermillion County, on the place where she died, in 1832. She had been a consistent member of the M.E. Church, for 60 years. Deprived of the advantages of early education, in the last few years of her life, she would read and comment on certain chapters of the New Testament, which gave her pleasure. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. McDaniel of the M.E. Church. Her remains were deposited in Pisgah Cemetery, there to await the resurrection of the dead.

Thomas Jackson, Hillsdale, dies
Thomas J. Jackson, 91, of Route 1, Hillsdale, died at Vermillion County
Hospital at 8:12 p.m. Thursday. His death was unexpected.
He was born April 2, 1891, the son of Enoch and Anna Belle Jackson, residents of Hillsdale, Route 1. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Clinton American Legion Post.
Surviving are four nephews, Ernest Shell of Louisville, KY., Leslie Lohrman and Forest Lohrman, both of Route 1 Hillsdale; two nieces, Anna Harney of Pasadena, Calif., and Mary Belle Forein of Santa Monica, Calif., as well as several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Karanovich Funeral Home with Rev. James McMahon officiating. Interment will be in Helt's Prairie cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
William Jackson, son of Andrew Jackson, departed this life, March 11, 1887. Wilie, as generally called by those who loved him, gained the love of all who knew him for his pleasant and agreeable ways, and years will not fill the blank caused in his home by the loss of one so kind, and seldom has the death of one so young been so widely felt and none so deeply mourned. It is hereworthy of remark, all through his sickness, he was not only free from all murmuring, but cheerful almost to the last, by the false hope that he would recover. He clasped his hands in his father's; spoke his last word that all is well. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ira Mater at Hillsdale, at the M.E. Church.

Billy Jackson died at his brother-in-laws last Friday morning at 3 o'clock. His father called to see him and bid him good-bye. Billy leaves a host of sympathizing friends to mourn with his brothers and sisters. Rev. Ira Mater preached the funeral at the M.E. Church last Saturday.
Wren Jackson, well known farmer of rural route 3 committed suicide yesterday afternoon by taking Paris Green. He is thought to have mentally deranged during the past week and this has been given as one cause of his death.
Jackson had been in the habit if going to the home of his brother Frank Jackson the past few days and spending his time there. When he failed to come yesterday his eldest son William and T. B. Smith went to the man's home where he had been batching to find out the cause of the delay. They found him dead, leaning in a sitting posture against the door case, apparently asleep. The floor around him was covered with Paris Green which he had vomited forth. A big tomato can containing some of the poisonous mixture was close at hand. Apparently the man had consumed a complete package of the poison.
It is not known just how long Jackson was dead before he was found. It was said that he was last seen alive about 11 o'clock in the morning.
Jackson was well known in this locality. A few years ago he came into public notice over domestic troubles. He was tried in court after shooting at his wife. At the time he was adjudged insane and spent some time in an asylum. Recently he had been quite normal and shortly before his death had done some work for a local undertaker. It was only during the past week that his condition seemed to have been subnormal again. He is survived by four sons, William, Herman, Edward and Ray, three brothers Ellis Frank and Al and two sisters Mrs. William Davis and Mrs. Charles Luce.
The body has been removed from the Frist undertaking establishment to the home of Mrs. Davis in Morey Street. The funeral will be held there tomorrow with Rev Halstead of the Christian Church officiating. Burial will be at the Gorton Cemetery located on the old Gideon Jackson farm of which Wren Jackson himself owned 46 acres.
Cruel death has shrouded the portals of another home. During last Friday night, after an illness of two weeks, JENNIE JAMES, departed this life, in her 25th year. Her remains were interred in Helt's Prairie Cemetery, Rev. McDaniel officiating. She was indeed an amiable woman, kind, quiet, and peaceful, being very highly esteemed by all who knew her.
Obituary -- JENNIE JAMES, wife of HENRY JAMES, of Helt township, and a daughter of JOHN S. ANDERSON, died at an early hour last Saturday morning, after an illness of only 3 days, and was buried in the afternoon of the same day at Helt's Prairie Cemetery. She was about 25 years of age, and a most excellent lady. She had the esteem and respect of everybody.
CLINTON, Ind. (Special) - Jerry Milton James, 42, 114 S. Iowa St., Chrisman, Ill., formerly of Clinton, died at 11 p.m. Thursday at Berern's Hospital, Danville, Ill. He was a member of the Christian Church at Chrisman, Odd Fellows Lodge at Jamestown, Osborne Post No. 104 of the American Legion and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are the widow, Mary, three daughters, Joyce Ann, Karen Lee and Lee Ann, and a son Jerry Jr., all at home and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ross James, RR 3, Clinton. Dennis R. Jeffery, 56, of Crawfordsville and formerly of Terre Haute died at 12:25 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2001, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Dec. 8, 1944, in Gary to Richard Jeffery and Ruth Pearman Jeffery. Survivors include his wife, Sandra K. Reese Jeffery; two sons, Travis Jeffery and Troy Jeffery; one brother, Dale Jeffery; and two sisters, Janet Riggen and Joyce Adams. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home in Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Jim Ranard officiating. Burial is in Oak Hill Cemetery South in Crawfordsville. HILLSDALE -- Fredrick "Rick" Duane Jeffery, 47, of Hillsdale died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, in Paris Community Hospital in Paris, Ill. He was born May 19, 1952, in Clinton to Richard Jeffery and Ruth Pearman Jeffery. Survivors include his wife, Shannon Calvert Jeffery; his mother; two daughters, Stephanie Jeffery and Amber Pitts; three stepdaughters, April Kennedy, Michelle Kennedy and Autumn Kennedy; two sisters, Janet Riggen and Joyce Adams; and two brothers, Dale Jeffery and Dennis Jeffery. Services are 2 p.m. today in Brown Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Bob Baum officiating. Burial is in Highland Cemetery in Hillsdale. ROCKVILLE -- Ruth Jeffery, 81, of Rockville and formerly of Hillsdale died at 11:45 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in St. Vincent's Carmel Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Hillsdale to Otis Pearman and Julia Alice Middlebrook Pearman. Her husband, Richard Jeffery, died Nov. 25, 1986. Survivors include two sons, Dale Jeffery of Montezuma and Dennis Jeffery of Crawfordsville; two daughters, Janet Riggen of Montezuma and Joyce Adams of Paris, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by one son, Rick, Jan. 17, 2000. She was a member of Rockville Methodist Church and Montezuma Lodge 537 Order of Eastern Star. Services are 11 a.m. Monday in Brown Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Revs. Jack Steele and John Mattson officiating. Burial is in Highland Cemetery in Hillsdale. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. ALEX JOHNSON, who lived 3 miles east of Perrysville, died on the 21st instant of some kind of fever, but we have not been informed of the particulars. The deceased was an old resident of this vicinity, a Justice of the Peace for the township of Fulton, and a man of high standing to this community.
Funeral services for Charles Herbert Johnson, age 83, a native of Highland Twp., Vermillion County, IN., were held Friday, Sept 18 at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. Mr. Johnson was born Jan 21, 1881, at Hopewell in Highland Twp., the son of Louis H. and Sarah Shute Johnson. He died at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 16 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient two days. He was married Dec 20, 1914 to Virginia Hall, who preceded him in Death Feb 9, 1942. He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge of Gessie and he had been a farmer for several years. He was an engineer for the railroad and had helped on the construction of the Panama Canal in 1903. He also had worked on the Denver and Rio Grande railroads in Colorado. He had resided in Mattowan, Mich., for 20 years and he had been a resident of 6 Iowa St in Danville, Ill., for 3 years. Survivors include; one brother Ray of Danville, Ill., and one niece, Kathryn Colwell. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, one daughter and five brothers and sisters. The Rev. Dewey Findley of Perrysville officiated and burial was in Hopewell Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dewey Prather, Forrest Cossey, Ray Geiger, Clarence Wait, Herman Holder and Fletcher Sparks.
Husband of Former Local Resident Dies
Word has been received here of the death Saturday of FRED JOHNSON, 78, of 631 Ferry Street, Lafayette. He had been in ill health for several months. Surviving are the wife, the former Miss Cecil Turner of Clinton and a sister of the late Otto Turner; and a son, Robert Johnson. The body is at the Zahn & Schineider Funeral Home in Lafayette and burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Woolcult Cemetery.
Dr. William Alexander Johnson, age 78, died at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at his residence in Perrysville, after returning from a house call about a block from his home. Death was attributed to a heart attack. The doctor. who had been in failing health for two years, was found by neighbors in the kitchen of his Perrysville home where he had lived alone since the death of his wife last year. Beside him was the medical case he had carried on the call to the neighbor's home shortly before. Dr. Johnson was born Nov. 5, 1888, near Stringtown, a son of James H. and Mary Eva Holland Johnson. He was married to Nelle Shute of the Perrysville area on June 28, 1916. She preceded him in death on Aug 31, 1961. He was a life resident of Vermillion and Fountain Counties. Dr. Johnson graduated from Cayuga High School and taught grade school before attending medical college at Loyola University in Chicago where he graduated in 1910. He served his internship in the hospital at the Jeffersonville Reformatory. Dr. Johnson began his practice in Perrysville in 1910. A special program at Perrysville High School in1958 honored Dr. Johnson for serving the medical needs of the community for a period of 50 years. The program was sponsored by the Perrysville Lions Club and included a testimonial to the doctor by many of the thousands of babies he delivered during his practice. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Indiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Vermillion County Historical Society, Society of Indiana Pioneers, Perrysville Methodist Church, Unity Lodge 344 F&AM , Vermilion County Past Masters Association, Perrysville Chapter 302 OES, Chapter and Council of Crawfordsville, Scottish Rite Valley of Danville, Ill.,Zorah Shrine at Terre Haute and Eastern Illinois Shrine Club. In earlier years, he had served on the board of directors for the Indiana Masonic Home. Survivors include two brothers, James M. of Danville, Ill., and Forrest H. of Freeport, NY and a sister, Mrs. Coral J Hughes of Pontiac, Ill.,and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one daughter, Harriet, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1921, and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, at the Perrysville Methodist Church with the Rev. Floyd J. Crocker and the Rev. Earl Owens, officiating. Burial was in the Hicks Cemetery with the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in charge. Masonic rites were conducted by Unity Lodge 344.

departed this life January 7, 1920 at his home in Highland. In
1883 he was married to Clara B. Jackson, who died in 1892. To
this union one child was born Blanche Belle, who preceded him in death
December 21, 1918.
January 7, 1895 he was united in marriage to Rosa O. Pearman and to this union were born two sons, John and Paul. Paul preceded his father in death January 2, 1915.
He was converted and joined in the U.B. Church at Hillsdale in 1905, under the pastor, Rev. Ada. He was a devoted husband and father and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. The church has lost one of its most devoted workers. He will be missed in the Sunday School where he was so faithful to do all that was required of him. He leaves his wife, one son, one brother and his aged father to mourn his loss besides a host of our friends and neighbors. Our loss is his gain for he left a bright evidence that he was prepared for the heavenly home.
Arthur Roy Jones, age 77, of Covington Rt 2, a retired farmer, died unexpectedly at his home at 4:45 p.m. Sunday Sept 17. He was born Oct 30, 1883, in Highland Twp, Vermillion County, a son of Thomas and Ann Lawrence Jones. On Feb 17, 1904, he married Viola Clem, who survives. Mr. Jones resided in Mound township, most of his life. He was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau and attended the State Line Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife: a daughter, Mrs. Helen Ricketts, at home. He was preceded in death by a sister. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Moon officiated. Burial was in the Lower Mound Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Glen Fowler, Cecil Adams, A J Crouch, Laurence Vickery, Hyta Wright and Lester Burghart.

Mrs. Clara B. Jones, a daughter of Andrew Jackson and wife of Albert
Jones, died at her home near Highland, Oct. 12th. The deceased was born
near Highland, where she has always lived.
CLINTON, -- Word has been received of the death of F. M. " Matt " Jones, 68, formerly of Clinton, who died 5 a.m. Saturday in St Joseph Hospital. Surviving are the wife , Florida; three sisters, Rowena Whaley, Elizabethtown, Tenn.; Margaret Bradley, Indianaplois; Verlet Conto, Terre Haute; a brother, Walter Jones, Providence, R.I.; two aunts, Grace Barrick, Terre Haute; and Jennie McMains, Carbon. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Warner Funeral Home in Osceola, Ind. with the Rev. Joe Miller officiating.
FRANKLIN JONES , 60 , FOUND DEAD AT HOME TODAY
The body of Franklin Phillip Jones, 60, was found on the basement floor
of his residence at 702 North Eighth Street shortly after 8 a.m. today.
He had been dead for sometime and was seen alive on Tuesday.
Mrs. Jones who had been absent from the home for a few days , returned with a neighbor to find the house cold, and went to the basement to check on the furnace. She found the body there. Vermillion County Coroner Nick Karanovich stated an autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death. Mr. Jones was born in Carbon, Ind. the son of Richard and Emily Lark Jones and had been a resident of Clinton for the past 49 years. Surviving are the wife, Thelma; one daughter (Mrs.) Florence Dirbas, Wheeling, West Virginia; three grandchildren; three half-brothers, Orville Jones, Brunswick,Md.; Mathew, Osceola, Ind.; and Walter , Rhode Island; three half-sisters (Mrs.) Margaret Bradley, Ft. Wayne; Mrs Verlet Conto, Route 7, Terre Haute; and Mrs. Rowena Griffith, Butler, Tenn.
The body has been taken to the First Funeral Home and arrangements are pending.
We did not learn until last Tuesday morning, that JOHN N. JONES, Sr., of Perrysville, one of the old pioneers of this county, was dead, which sad occurrence took place on the 25th ult. Mr. JONES located at Perrysville about the year 1834, having been a resident of that place 40 years. A great deal of the prosperity and thrift of that village is due to the energy and enterprise of the decedent. He was a noble and kind hearted citizen, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to the weak and distressed. He united with the M.E. Church about 30 years ago, was a consistent member, and always contributed largely of his means to all charitable institutions. He was a liberal and enterprising citizen and will be sadly missed by the people of Highland township. His funeral was preached on the day following his death by Rev. T.C. STRINGER, and was very largely attended by his many old friends. He was 64 years of age, and died of asthma, a disease of which he had been afflicted with for many years.
MONTEZUMA Melvin Maurice Jones, 82, of Montezuma died at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, in his residence. He was born Dec. 25, 1915, in Clinton to William McKinley Jones and Ollie Pearl Pritchard Jones. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Frist Jones; two sons, Gary Jones and Glen Jones; one daughter, Linda Reed; one sister, Lorraine Newland; one brother, Lois Jones; and five grandchildren. Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in Brown Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Gommel officiating. Burial is in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Richard A. Jones, 77, 805 North Eighth Street, died at
8:50 p.m.
Thursday at the Vermillion County Hospital following a brief illness.
He entered the hospital Wednesday. His survivors include his wife,
Elsie; three daughters (Mrs.) Margaret Bradley, Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Verlet
Conto, Clinton; and Mrs. Rowena Griffith, Catrerville, Tenn.; four
sons, Franklin P., Clinton; Orville L., Dundulk, Md.; Freeman, South
Bend; and Walter, Edgewood, R.I.; and one brother, Walter, Carbon; and
four sisters (Mrs.) Elizabeth Houston, Detroit; Mrs. Mary Hobert, South
Bend; Mrs. Laura Howard, Clinton; and Mrs. Jennie McMain, Carbon. The
body was taken to the First Funeral Home pending completion of the
funeral arrangements.
CLINTON, IND., -- Mrs. Thelma ( Midge ) Jones, 56 years old, of 702 North Eighth Street, died at 8:35 o'clock Sunday morning at the Vermillion County Hospital following a long illness. Surviving are a daughter (Mrs.) Florence Dirdbas, of Wheeling, W. Va.; three sisters (Mrs.) Lizzie Vitalie, of Wheeling (Mrs.) Violet Thiesz and Mrs. Maggie Revesz, both of Clinton; two brothers, Andrew Rhoads of West Wheeling; and three grandchildren. She was a seemstress and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and Pocahontas Lodge here. Her husband, Franklin Jones, died Jan. 24. The body is at the First Funeral Home where services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock by the Rev. Vernon Shaw. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
